"Someones gonna call you punk even if you're not." I like that attitude.
Its great to see Dee Dee lucid and intelligent, nothing like the moronic way he's usually portrayed. A great little piece of history.
YES. Both Dee Dee and Joey are often painted as dumb, but they were definitely not. Dee Dee was one of the best songwriters in the punk scene. He had his problems, but he wasn't a moron.
did you just call Dee Dee a moron?
@@a.c.6808 Do you really need an answer? I said that's how he's usually portrayed and made a point that I was glad he wasn't in this clip.
@@a.c.6808 IMHO
marky ramone was a factor that cause ded ded to OD...
just say'n...
after reading marcs book
dee dee cleaned up way too fast cause of marcs pressure
...
@@petermarsden4727 It's hardly fair to blame Marky. Dee Dee battled with drugs for years, he started well before the Ramones. It's hard work trying to function when an addict is part of the process, everyone who was involved with him was on his case to clean up and from time to time he did do.
Man, Joey is such a stud! 💕✨😍
The person between Joey and De De is Michael Mckenzie artist / photographer who introduced me to the Ramones and co-hosted several of my shows
Efrom Allen rest in peace Efrom
you still hosting?
You've got to admire the interviewer, people forget how only a tiny proportion of people didn't hate anything 'punk', he's well ahead of the time.
Yeah he really got it, and didn't judge them or treat them like crap like a lot of announcers would have to make themselves feel important.
When I was in school in the late eighties and early nineties, a lot of guys were punks, and they all were snobish about it. Shit turns around.
The first few calls that were cut off for profanity and/or talking smack against the Ramones = the days before Twitter....the haters online, now, are the ones who called into shows like this back in the day, hoping to get their F***Y** in before being cut off!!! Losers don't change, they just find another venue.
This is a very beautiful piece of american history and culture. You oughtta be real proud of it Efrom. 👌top drawer for sure.
The Question about Brazil is pretty amazing. They became 10 times more popular in South America than they were in the US,
joey said we wento to canarian islan in south america lol..thats not south .only.south for nyc lol
fiquei impressionado com essa pergunta
I was lucky enough to catch the Ramones about this time and after the show me and Joey shot a couple of games of pool. It is still one of my favorite memories. He was just a regular guy.
Did you give him a suck job?
I meet Joey in the 90s and agree he acted like a regular guy. No ego and was generous with his time. He has to deal with strangers constantly approaching him and asking the same things over and over again but didn’t act that way. There’s not many people I admire but he’s one of them and I’m glad meeting him didn’t spoil it.
@@dannymartinez3600 cool youre lucky.
Holy shit! For real?!!
@@123gozane Yes. They were just regular guys.
This is a classic! All the mistakes, the bad audio with the callers... drinking beer....etc
Been a big fan of the Ramones...Since I was in high school in 1978... Saw them many times in concert and now attend going to Joey Ramone BDay May 19th benefits in NYC... Gaba gaba hey!
Schmidt’s stubby bottles !! We used to love those !! Anybody know if they still make beer !! This so damn classic , I love it !! The Ramones rocked !!
It is wild to watch this now. Smoking on tv, people calling in to say fuck you and you suck haha. The bands were real, the audience was real. Hard to imagine now.
Beer in a suitcase!
The sinle word that specifically dates this to 1978 -79, was brought up by the female caller, "Paraquat" ...only kids of the 70s would appreciate the significance of that
This is pure gold from the 70's . Smoking and drinking live call in. Total classic Punk.
really like seeing deedee this way too. you can tell he's intelligent, and really loves the scene. RIP
Love this early Ramones interview.
Classic DeeDee comment at 2:45, "we never tried to get into definitions, we always tried to get out of them."
Joey at 4:35, "I don't see how kids can grow up on Leif Garrett and feel that are getting a fair deal."
dee dee’s quote is iconic.
@ldyson22 He's a reverse meta-man.
Leif Garret was Gangsta
Joey was hillarious in this one and Dee Dee he is so fucking hot and talented, so is Joey. RIP to them both and Johnny and Tommy as well, hey ho lets go !
Even the interviewer Ephrom is dead. RIP everyone on this show.
"Punk rock isnt melodious, the Ramones are melodious."
I was born in 87 but this made me feel like I was living in 77. It really put me there. Never seen anything like it. Live TV show while smoking, drinking and cutting calls off? A guy who brings beers in a briefcase? All casually siting in regular chairs without following almost any protocol? Loved it all. Everything's so "take it or leave it" kinda of a deal. It is what it is. The Ramones, as everything that came to change the game and direction of things, did bother people a lot as happened with The Stones, The Beatles, and the early rock n roll movement in general. I feel that Dee Dee and Joey would always give a better interview than Johnny. They're more fun and relaxed. Loved the girl that called at 40:33. She was really into music. She knew about producers, labels, tours and record releases. This video is a gem. Thanks for uploading.
Dang Joey is silly giggly drunk!! LOL……Classic!! Man this is a piece of rock history!!!
thanks for appreciating the show
No one's ever offered me beer from a briefcase... Guess I haven't really lived
jajja yes
We posted this show which we thought would be an interesting part of the history of rock n roll from that period. We will be posting many more shows from that time period in the near future, so keep checking the site for more great stuff . Efrom Allen
This was a while ago. Are you still posting?? ☆~☆ I love this interview ♡♡♡2019
I wish this had subtitles..... completely great but between the muffled audio and my hard of hearing, I only understadn about 50%
@Kiauhmitl I hear that Efrom Allen is dead.IS THAT TRUE???
Efrom Allen it was interesting that it was aired when Johnny Blitz had been stabbed. Thanks.
@@tinaramone6615 Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago.
This video is a time capsule from the time the Ramones still walked among us.
Wow, Aliece was spot on in calling the band to come and play Brazil. This is a little piece of RnR history!!
Love this. Its like the Ramones just hangin out smoking and drinking.
It was a great show they were brilliant and I had a great time every time I was with Joey thanks for the comment
This is awesome! I've never seen any Dee Dee footage from the 70's!!! I was never old enough to go to their shows when Dee Dee was still in the band but I did see them 3 times with CJ. I was at their 2259th show at the Gorge in Washington.
I am glad that you appreciated this video on the Ramones come back soon to see more video's from this time that we will be posting
This might just be the best video on CZcams!
Dee Dee seemed to really want to answer everyone's questions, no matter how weird - very attentive guy. Putting all the effects on Joey when he was just awkwardly sipping on a beer was hilarious too.
holy shit, I was 14, god how I wish I had a time machine and could turn back time and know what I know now..love the Ramones
"Let's click him off." lmao
No wonder the world needed the Ramones. Thanks for the upload!
clearly Arturo comes from the future
Chihuahua
Just another timelord
Damn, Joey's such a stud. 😍
14:06 She knows what she is talking about. "They should play in Brazil."
Elis is a really common name in brazil. Would like to know her story.
@@MarmittDJ I think is Alice. And amazes me to know a Brazilian call a tv show that time. Probably she was living there.
How funny that they had Brazilian fans back then who didn't even need to hear the music
Wow! This interview is as raw and rough as the Ramones themselves were! It’s a trip to not only hear them talk but also interact with regular people from the era. Ah, the 70s!
I watched the whole thing and it was amazing
Then you must've seen Stiv Bators hop on at the end! They were good friends back in the day...Sire stablemates, of course, and I believe Joey said earlier they were going down to CBGB's for the Dead Boys show that night. And, it was their Johnny Blitz for whom they were doing the benefit. Pretty cool.
pistols were manufactured like the monkees
put together like a boy band .
ramones grew with each other as a band
Good for you, Efrom, you are really a good host and you let your guests speak for themselves.
I feel out of this world while watching such an old interview
I love how they're all smoking cigs without a hassle...just part of rock and roll.
Dee Dee is spot on. Get OUT of definition, don’t be defined……Just be you.
johnny probably was unhappy, these are the 2 guys he didn't want giving the interviews. but most of what he and tommy said seemed rehearsed, not to mention kinda short. r.i.p. joey, dee dee, arturo, johnny, tommy.
cool show, smokin, drinkin, and chillin w/ joey and dee dee! woulda loved to have been able to call in!
And Michael and Arturo
That Michael also dead ???.....Of what are all these people dying forchrisakes ?.....must be a CIA plot....
Definitely unhealthy burnout New York living.....where mostly the well off survive ?.......
Yeah Johnny was a dick about protecting their image. He was a necessary part of the group though, as he was the one that kept them in line and made sure they got paid. However, I think Dee Dee and Joey held their own here. I think this being a low-key interview helped a lot, as they weren't as nervous. Dee Dee especially shines here.
He maybe didn't care because this was just a public access show?
and Stiv
Wow. This is so amazing. I wish I had been able to meet these guys, or even have a chance to have called them on this show at the time. It really sucks being in this era sometimes. Joey Ramone is probably one of my only biggest idles in music. I don't play music. But, I would have loved to meet him just based on his mellow and funny personality. :)
I agree, it sucks that i was never able to see these legends play. At least we are blessed with their incredible music and these cool videos.
I love the Ramones. Sucks that I keep calling and can’t get through though.
Rocket To Russia is my favorite Ramones Album. Cretin Hop is my favorite song. That album should of been triple gold man.
16:45: Punk rock is keeping beer in a suitcase and politely passing them so everyone can enjoy.
That's Arturo on the right! Their art director friend. That is in fact the belt buckle on the back of the 1st Ramones album Arturo is wearing!
Man, Arturo looks crazy awesome.
Just goes to show that even before the Internet, people would go out of their way to call someone gay. Nothing changed except for technology. Bravo to the Ramones for taking it in stride.
Nice, genuine interview, you don't see it a lot today, or any time!!
Every one on here is dead. Arturo Vega just recently passed away. RIP.
Mytube777 your tube?
Michael McKenzie's still alive I think?
49:47 Hahaha Joey is like so mellow but still quite intense in the way he stares at that interviewer xD Hahaha
Look all those little girls calling for the Ramones. RIP Arturo
"The sex pistols were just a hype band."
Legends. They created a musical movement and never got the fame and rewards they should have.
Priceless.
Efrom: And this is the new album?
Joey: yi
ye
Ramones are without a doubt one of the most important bands in Rock Music History
Elvis Costello & The Attractions’ This Years Model
current new here was and is a fantastic album
So fucking cool! Vega, Bators, no Johnny, talking about the Blitz benefit! The Rick Moranis-looking guy with the Larry from Three's Company style is fucking awesome!
Thanks for sharing, man!!!
What a gem! Thanks for uploading and sharing! :)
I dont think ive ever seen a video of Dee Dee when he's this high. damn guy
yeah, i know he fell on hard times. I met him through a friend in the late 80's and actually hung out at his house in Pompano once. good guy. very generous. anyway, thanks for getting back to me. This interview with the Ramones is classic stuff.
rjplamf61 Who are you talking about?
i fucking love you joey ♡
Bless you for preserving and sharing this clip. What a fabulous time capsule. And what struck me watching, was how great the interactions were between you and the band, and the callers, especially the teens and young adults. It shows how essential radio and public tv/cable access were for local kids--especially those in the outer boroughs--connecting them with their fellow freaks.
PS I wish you could reupload your clip with Debbie and Chris of Blondie, from around the same period. Thank you!
I think is incredible a girl in 1977 talking about ramones play in brazil, thats incredible previous the future!!!
Dude they got a fuckin' beer assistant.. Awesome!
Efrom Allen...... THANK YOU!!!!
Beer in a briefcase, cooooooooool.
+Edward Pignataro IV that's whati just thought wtf I love it!!
Love that shit was cool
12:09 oh maaannnnn Joey's face...boy I'd like to slug that kid who called. Or give Joey a pat on the shoulder.
I love the Ramones cos their music wasn't all sweet and cheery, but it was never hateful or negative. Just tough and good humored. Had to be if people were treating them like that. Man I wish I could give them a hug. However looks like they get a nice buzz on so it's ok.
I dont think he really gave much of a fuq
@@lampegutt123 did or didn't he?
a Piece of History History History The Ramones!
thanks for your checking out my show please tell others
Interesting how the woman that called in keyed in that Brazilians would love them, before they even played there.
what a great truth said Arturo....the Ramones was the start of something so important, real, pure and raw rock&roll, somthing so differente from disco or traditional rock.....and really, if you heard the Ramones and you liked it, just cant´t hear anything else.....thanks for upload this episode, greetings from Chile!
not even Black Sabbath?
Beer , beer ,smoke ,beer, smoke, the life of Rockstar, Viva los Ramones!!!GabbaGabbaHey✊👍
55:35 - Ahhh Stiv Bators as the last min guest is sooooooo rad!!!
great interview , Dee Dee, Joey and Arturo, damn great m thanks Efrom!
Hi! welcome to my world Manhattan New York
What gem this video is.
"Stiv Bators is joining us.." Joey: "I thought it was Phyllis Diller".
If Johnny had been there he just would have told everyone to shut up.
cos he was the boss
@@supersixx1 They would do better without him. Be a more genuine band.

@ldyson22 Tss heh lol
A lot of love from the callers lolololol
Tony Bongiovi the producer Dee Dee was telling about ,is Bon Jovi's uncle and he was (Tony) producing artists already in the 70's (He produced Aerosmith too)
the girl who said they should play in Brazil was exactly right because they had their greatest success in Brazil and Argentina! how did she know?
She Came from the Future. Only answer i can imagine.
Must be something involved with there style, I wouldn't be able to pin point it. Like clothes, hair, wardrobe. Tbh I wish we could all ask Arturo
They love rock n roll man
A lifelong heroin addict saying he wanted stability. Oh, Dee Dee, you're breaking my heart.
RIP, boys.
This was soooooooooo cool. Thanx!
This is amazing thanks for posting!!!
thanks for your comments about the Ramones show
What a great clip. Thank you.
The Ramones were and still are genius.

I LOVE this!
Love this. Very raw!!!! Thanks!!
Brilliant! Thanks alot for putting this up!!!
Wow, blast from the past!! I was born in Queens but grew up on Long Island. I remember watching these shows when we got cable. A box with a key lol
Queens is the head of Long Island 🤡
amazing, thank you for this. my favorite band/people. just like time traveling
Amazing inlook ,DeeDee's definitely the brightest.Joey 's cool for not smoking, even while he's so nervous.
Joey was a very heavy smoker but quit around this time when he got worried it was affecting his vocals. His brother Mickey says he quit cold turkey the first attempt.
And he's cool when he's smoking
@@gtneal interesting, I didnt know he'd smoked. Ive tried smoking a million times but never could stick with it, I only did it cause it seemed cool. When people would say their new yrs resolution was to quit smoking, Id say mine was to try to keep smoking!
Dude actually has beers in a suit case. Everyone is just chain smoking and drinking on TV. Must have been a whole other world back then. lol
it was New York public access tv on cable. pretty much unregulated. and most if not all of the shows were no-low budget. any show that took calls got pranked almost non stop.
