lgor Krutoy is a composer and pianist who accompanied Dimash and Diana too, and lgor Krutoy gave Diana an apartment in Moscow.
I would like to share with you my discovery. The voice of amazing beauty, power and depth, crystal clear, I heard from a beautiful girl and was fascinated by her.
Her story moved me even more.
At the age of 3, this little girl was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and other psychological and physical injuries. The child ended up in an orphanage, where her future foster mother worked as a masseuse. The story itself is a ready-made plot for an Oscar-nominated film.

Rock 'n Roll Boy was the reply ! No way, I called his cousin, he's in school, yer wrong ! He was heading there, entered the field eliminations, only immediate family knew, and keeps winning !!, the whole country is bonkers ! Wow, this song choice is a pleasant surprise! Yet, TBH, I haven't heard this cover version before.
The original song, 行かないで(Ikanaide), roughly translated as "Don't Go/Leave," was published in November, 1989, by a Japanese artist called 玉置 浩二(Tamaki Kōji). It is one of his, if not the most, famous song, and has been translated into several foreign language cover version throughout decades. The 1990 Cantonese cover title is 《李香蘭》(Li Hsiang-lan, the name of a famous Japanese/Chinese female singer/actress in 1940s, WWII), the 1993 Chinese cover title is 《秋意濃》(Deep Fall Season), and an English cover version called "Yesterday's News," by MAMAS GUN in 2010.
The original Japanese lyrics are like a repeated pleadings from the singer, rather simple, yet deeply heartbroken. The Cantonese lyric version was diverse greatly from the original simplicity, adding a layer of beauty but not greasy romantic atmosphere. The Chinese lyric version mainly followed the Cantonese version, since the singer is the same guy called 張學友 (Jacky Cheung).
I don't think I need to add any info on the Eng ver...... Xp
Disclaimer, I'm not trying to act like a jerk here.
Even though Dimash Kudaibergen did performance some incredible singing techniques, I must say these opera-ish, singing contest showoff traits don't suite the original Japanese lyrics very well. The original Japanese version, the Cantonese version, and the Chinese version, all follow an 'eastern culture vibe' - withdrawn, implicit, restrained. So when I heard Mr. Kudaibergen expressed the introverted Japanese lyrics so bluntly started from 4:00, the too-straightforwardness confused me for the rest of the period.
I still appreciate Dimash Kudaibergen's singing skills. Maybe it's just me yielding to my comfort zone for too long.
Thank you for reacting to this piece!

Strange, are you aware that the composer of this song said that this is the best performance of non-japanese singer, he ever heard?
Yes, it has different energy. I truly love the original by Koji Tamaki too, however, this one is equally beautiful, there is no need to make a choice. In music there can be many versions of one song, each beautiful in its own way ...

    • @henrykung1983
      @henrykung1983 Před 2 lety

@@jitkaanduin346 First, I'd like to apologize if my personal preference offended you.
However, even you claim the author said "this is the best performance of non-japanese singer," I can't find any related statement about that? The closest statement I found Tamaki Koji made is " I’ve heard that over time, the same things can be transmitted in completely different ways. And it’s very nice, isn’t it?” On that, I totally agree.
Maybe you can share the source where Tamaki-san truly literally praised "this is the best performance of non-japanese singer?" I'd really love to learn.
Which leads to another point I'd like to bring up: I'm not quite sure if we are on the same page of defining "Non-Japanese" or not. I found Mr. Kudaibergen's 2017 singing contest version later, and I was impressed by his interpretation on that Chinese version, greater than this cover.
The problem is, as my original comment have already pointed out, there's great difference in the complexity of the lyrics between Japanese original version and the Cantonese/Chinese version. In my humble opinion, this difference largely affects the fluency of transmitting emotion through particular singing techniques.
So, if your understanding/qualification for 'Non-Japanese' is merely a non-Japanese singing a Japanese song, everything is simple. Yet, how about a non-Japanese singing a Chinese/Cantonese song, adapted from a Japanese original, then using the Chinese version technique to portray the Japanese original? There's multiple language conversion in this case, and I don't think every admirer of Mr. Kudaibergen truly grasp the complexity of the situation.
Unfortunate for me, Japanese is my third fluent language (Chinese is my mother tongue, English is my best foreign language, and I can half-understand Cantonese word by word if there's a subtitle.), and 《行かないで》 is one of my favorite Japanese songs. I've studied the meaning of every syllable, and scrutinized why the lyric phrase is composed like it did. Then I studied the adapted lyrics in Cantonese/Chinese, trying to figure out why the lyricists could transform a simple, heartbroken Japanese pleading, into a classic traditional Chinese poetry beauty.
So, when I heard this video's version, I was confused. Not until I heard Mr. Kudaibergen's 2017 singing contest version, did I realize he's singing this song in Japanese, yet, to some extend, in a Chinese/Cantonese portraying way. There might be more behind-the-scene situation, and I'm sure I'm not qualified to judge. My original comment is merely a first impression, fueled by my own indulgence. Maybe through some time, I can figure out why Mr. Kudaibergen chose to interpret the Japanese lyrics in his own understanding. And I'm gladly to learn more info about this song.
Sorry again if I made any unintentional offending out of ignorance or comfort zone indulgence.

@@henrykung1983 It was the lyricist, Goro Matsui, who said that. He tweeted about how excited he was to hear Dimash's performance of the song and in an interview stated those things (I quote): "I happened to find Dimash singing “ikanaide" by chance.
The first thing that surprised me was his crystal clear tone and his expressive voice that conveys the lyrics of the song.
I've heard other Asian singers sing "Ikanaide" in their native languages several times.
However, even though they all sing great, none of them seemed to quite capture the sound and meaning of the original lyrics, and perceive the emotions between the lines.
In this song, the phrase ~ Ah, ikanaide~ is repeated several times in the chorus.
Although they are the same exact words, each line has a different meaning. I feel that Dimash seems to know it.
I have to say it again…
I was so surprised by this young, foreign singer named Dimash Qudaibergen sung this song and he interpreted it perfectly, since even many Japanese singers are struggling to sing this song with meaning....
Tamaki didn't sing this song often at his live concerts.
It seems to have taken a long time before he started to sing this song on live stage until recent years.
This song is very difficult to comprehension like this even for the original singer/composer.
I believe to be able to sing this song, you need to have “the time” which is many life experiences to fully express the songs lyrics, not just with singing ability.
Among the songs I wrote with Tamaki, there are many songs that I would like to experience Dimash singing, such as “Anokoro e/Back to that time” and "Friend".
I wish I had such an opportunity someday in future.
He is "a singer who moves the writer's heart".
A melody with many long tones in a song requires good singing skills.
Furthermore, it is so hard to adjust the amount of your inner passions/emotions, also this is not the song in which you only require a strong/steady/firm voice.
And above all, it is very important that if you can accurately express the "Pray/supplication”, which is the theme of this song.
In that sense, I think "Ikanaide" must be a song that chooses the singer.
And Dimash Kudaibergen seems the one of singers who got chosen by this song."

Disclaimer: I'm not used to writing in another way, so please forgive me for retyping your account name at the beginning. And, if any, thank you for accommodating with a writing system that you might not so comfortable with.
First of all, my appreciation for you sharing these information.
After reading your comment, I realize there's a great understanding gap. According to your quote, aside with the praise to Mr. Kudaibergen, Goro-san did mention the express of supplication, which has never been considered once during my 30 years history of listening to this song. To me, the lyrics had never implied as prayers from a lower self-esteem status, but rather out of emotional desperation. I guess my interpretation was largely influenced by the adapted Cantonese/Chinese lyrics, which give away a lot more plot clues than the Japanese original. In that sense, I do consent with Mr. Kudaibergen's portraying techniques in this video.
If possible: Since there's many Mr. Kudaibergen's 'Ikanaide' versions throughout these years, can you share the timing when Goro Matsui shared his insight? If it happened just right after this version's performance, then the statement is further affirmed. If Goro-san stated his opinion towards another Mr. Kudaibergen's portray, I'd also like to study the possible difference. :)

Also "Samaltau " another live stream from Tokyo jazz festival in 2021 is beautiful. Definitely not mainstream, no voice acrobatics, but extremely powerful performance, one of my favorites.

Dimash pays tribute to Koji Tamaki`s original, and also to Yoshiko Yamaguchi`s story , and voice :) (you can see her beauty and hear her amazing voice in the link below). "Ikanaide" was written about her sad real life story : written metaphorically as a plea for a loved one not to leave, the song actually describes the pain of actress-singer Yoshiko Yamaguchi that had to go into exile. Born in China, she hid her japanese heritage under a chinese name (Li Xiang Lan), became very famous. After WWII, her heritage was exposed, she was arrested, accused of being a spy, and sentenced to death. She was ultimately cleared of charges, but was advised to leave the country, as she risked being lynched. The song describes her pain in separating from China and her chinese name. The soprano section added by Dimash is meant to express her pain. /// She also had an amazing voice
Dimash also performed the chinese version of this song, called "Autumn Strong/Late Autumn" - first time during The Singer competition in China (2017), as the first chinese song he ever sang (worked like crazy in the week given to him, to get the pronunciation right), and managed to bring the audience to tears. Now he performs the chinese version in all his concerts (sometimes combines the 2 versions and sings half in chinese and half in japanese :) ) He got an award in Hong Kong for "Autumn Strong", and for "Ikanaide", a co-writer of the song said that Dimash`s cover was the best foreigner cover :) (japanese pronunciation included :)) )
For "Ikanaide", Dimash used a lot more breathiness than in "Autumn Strong" - as a tribute to Koji Tamaki`s original : czcams.com/video/2j3ab7cu_30/video.html
P.S. All my respect to you for catching that awesome hum at the end 😁Many stop the song before it, or talk over it 😐
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, as always :)

    Immenso Dimash.

For me, this is his grand-masterpiece. Every single note, every syllable, every sound, every vowel, every expression, is just absolutely perfect. Not in a hyperbolic fanboy way. It's freaking _PERFECT._ Every single sound. Even the ending, where he knew just what _not_ to sing. I don't think there has ever been a vocal performance this nuanced, this flawless, ever.

I love both versions equally (although the Japanese language sounds more beautiful to my ears), and was thinking with some regret that if he does one version, he won't do the other. And as Dimash usually does, I had a great surprise from him with these combined performances. And he performed it so beautifully as well, especially in Prague it was so divine I thought I could die on the spot. And those glorious endings! He is just getting better and better.

Dimash Kudabergen, living legend, genius singer, one in a million, no, one in a billion. With 23 years of classical training, he has become a unique vocalist. He has an amazing musical education, all the technical details he sings and uses, he knows how it works. He is musical perfection. There is no technical detail that he doesn't have, no one has ever had such talent and skills, he can be bass, baritone, tenor, counter tenor, alto, mezzo soprano, soprano and so on, he sings in 15 languages, he has the biggest range . He sings many genres, opera, pop, rap and so on. In addition to the talent that God gave, the work that he did is amazing. From the age of 5, he dedicated his life to music, did everything to develop it (swimming in the pool, breathing control, range, healthy lifestyle)He is an amazingly humble, warm simple man, apart from his musical excellence, as a person he is an amazing person. His songs are exceptionally complex both technically and emotionally, he is able to properly develop emotion in music both vocally and artistry.Dimash has fans (called dears) from 150 countries around the world. I'd say his fans are special because we don't love Dimash because he has good looks (well, he's very attractive and cute) or because his performances are fun (unlike other pretend singers who are more performers than singers and vocalists). We love him because of the talent he has, because of the work he has done almost all his life. He deserves everything. There is no other singer who can be compared to him, he is at the apogee of development. He plays 7 instruments, loves the culture of his country and wants to introduce it to the world. As I already wrote, he is very educated, he is still studying. he has 2 degrees in classical and contemporary, and on the way to a doctorate in musicology.Dimash has an incredible range that no one has ever had, full range 7.7 octaves, from G0 to D8. ( D8 whistle note , off the piano) Has very good details, staccato, distinctive vibrato, rifs, melizens, vocal acrobatic, glissando, crescendo, dominoendo, long notes, breath control, correct tesitura, Able to develop emotion properly, fit roles well . Uses professional technique, Italian Bell Canto technique. In his song it feels like he is a professional even without high notes.Unfortunately, as always, geniuses are appreciated late, this guy deserves much, much more recognition, I hope the time will come and he will be properly appreciated. I also want to mention that Dimash is like a drug. I have been listening to him for the third year, I can't imagine a day without listening to him, he is the best, not because he sings high notes and has a great range, but because he enters the soul with his song and you feel something you have never felt before. .But if we consider it from a technical point of view, in this case too
Dimash is the best. As vocal teachers and professionals say, his singing is technical perfection.Dimash's parents are singers, his mother is a soprano, his father is a singer and also a producer, as far as I know, Dimash's grandparents are singers, so from a musical point of view, Dimash has good genetics, he has a natural innate talent, which he developed after 23 years of work, and we have a unique singer in front of us. I could probably write a lot more, but I'll stop now, I want more people to know about him, believe me, you won't regret it. I hope I conveyed what I wanted to say correctly.

Thank you for reaction. If you want to see the path of Dimash developing you have to start with songs in I am a singer ( Adagio, Hello, Unforgettable day - this song is wrote by him before the competition, Daididau and chineese version of Ikanaide). Then must see Daybreak in Bastau, first wrote the story of song. Continue with the songs from Igor Krutoy - Love is like a dream, Your love, Know, Love of tired swans. War and peace, Strangr, Across endless dimension...The last one is wrote for movie and they searched who can sing the song, because for the presentation they used three people to sing different parts. Have a delightful journey with our Dimash.
