You should try the US General lock from harbor freight. It's $6.49 the shackle is very thick, it has ball bearing mechanism, 5 spools with great bitting and while it has really loose tolerances it uses extremely heavy spring tension to hold everything together and bend your picks. Sure It's not a medeco, but for well under 10 dollars it checks a lot of boxes.
The lack of ball bearings and the extra pin is because this was made for Walmart, and Walmart specifies cheap not good. Companies will literally make cheaper, shittier versions of their products just for sale at Wally World because otherwise the store won't carry any of their stuff.
Yup, this is most evident with their electronics. Look at the 60" to 70" TV. Sure it is a name brand and half the cost, but it is stripped to the bare bones inside.
If only more Walmart shoppers recognized their own culpability in the race to the bottom and off-shoring of jobs and manufacture and the degree to which their practices ultimately lead to competitors being forced to do the same out of economic necessity since they had to match Walmart prices - and the way Walmart extorts those low prices from manufacturers really ought to be criminal as it really is economic extortion as they even require manufacturers to sell them wholesale merchandise even if it means the manufacturer has to sell the item to Walmart at below manufacturer cost and if the manufacturer tries to drop the unprofitable product then Walmart threatens to drop their entire product line (by which time many manufactures have already been forced to take out expansion loans in order to manufacture in the volume Walmart demands, so having their entire product line dropped would mean likely defaulting in those loans, thus trapping the manufacturer in a bad deal and practically eternal catch-22). We now live in a world where it is remarkably difficult to find a real middle-ground in terms of quality and most everything is either junk or near luxury level “high end”. I quit shopping at Walmart bank in the early 90s when I saw the effect they had on small town businesses whenever they would move into town (specifically Chiefland, FL)...soon after most other shops in town would be effectively forced out of business. In fairness, most consumer grade locks are sold on ease-of-use rather than the security they offer. This is why it's rare to find a lock that has a tight fitment on the keyway. You'll never have a hard time sliding the key in or back out like what you'd see on challenge locks.

So, I'm not sure about the 50mm variant, but the 40mm variant doesn't have shielding at the back of the core, you can pop this padlock without tension, just a pick, or even just some wire.
The core of the lock also is not guarded on the back you can take a straight pick push the pins up a little bit add insert straight back and it also unlock
I'm not sure if someone has brought this up but I was able to place a single hook pick where the groove would be, at the top of key, push it in until it stops. Wiggle a little up & down and it pops right open. 1-2 seconds and no tensioner needed, just a single pick. Really push it in, feels like it's going into springs, it doesnt damage the lock.
I bought one of these to try learning lockpicking. Mine is much tougher than yours. It has bitting of 6121. (I know this because they stamp the bitting code onto the keys.) I've gotten it a few times, but that 6 pin right up at the front of the cylinder makes it really tough. Also, the springs feel really weak, so it doesn't give much feedback.
I actually bought this lock as a training aid. Along with a cheap Chinese knock off of a master lock. To be fair it does take a bit of skill to open. The Master Lock copy was very easy. I literally picked it in my car. Lol but the brinks lock definitely took some practice. The counter rotations are what takes some getting used to. The LPL makes all of these locks look extremely easy to pick. But unless you have already had experience in picking. This lock is a definite good stepping stone. Ok can you or have you made a list of the locks that you recommend? I believe I will go through all of these videos at some point but I can’t wait that long to find the lock I need lol
@lockpickinglawyer I just picked up a brinks lock from Walmart that was branded as pick proof, so I bought it. When I got home I brought out my pick set and went to work, but I found out that as soon as there is any pressure applied to the core, the pins locked up. How would you tackle this problem?
Greetings lock picking lawyer. I come to you to say, i am stumped. I purchased some clear locks and learned the basics. With practive i've gotten better! I can open all the doors in my house and a the lock you show in this video. HOWEVER I'm stumped on this Master Lock Num.3 i've had it for years but i cant seem to get any consistence feedback from the pins. The key still works but even with the lightest tension possible the pins seem to grind through the shafts. I can't get it, do you have any tips? P.S. I'm single pin picking.
I have a brinks 45 mm laminated steel padlock and I was wanting to know are any of the 4 pins security pins? And if so how would I find the breakdowns of locks so I could find out on my own? I’m not experienced enough to know what spools or serrated feel like. Thanks if you can help.
Literally learned lock picking yesterday and i dont even have quality picks. I got this picked in 5 minutes multiple times no where near his time but that should tell you something
Been working on this lock for 3 days now... You make this look so easy... My bidding is a little harder but still can't wait to get her open one day soon hopefully.
I bought a brand less lamenated "hardened steel" lock for about 3 bucks at walmart and all I did was grad the clip of a pilot brand pen, straightened it out, stab it into the keyhole, and pressed up, there's a pin liked feeling and a click, you don't even have to turn the lock, it literally just opens, the process can take anywhere from 1 second to 10 seconds
My key wouldn't even open it and I had to zip it to get the last two pins to set with WAY more tension than I was comfortable with. After that the key started working fine. The only 4-pin lock I've gotten so far that's given me any trouble and I'm still trying to figure out why and how.
How does this Brinks compare to the Wal-Mart purchased Brinks model 162-51091? My packaging for the 51091says "PROMAX Security", 4 pins, pick resistant, cut resistant to 9,300 pounds (also has the boron steel shackle), pry resistant to 4,000 pounds - it doesn't claim any security pins, though.
The other Brinks with the ball bearing mechanism, can you please share the model of that one? Or maybe share the Amazon link to it so you can make a couple pennies, that would be the least I can do. :-)
Your videos made me try lockpicking myself in the past week. I have a masterlock and i have this lock. I can open the masterlock decently quick with Bobbypins, but this lock keeps throwing me off. Maybe I’m not putting enough time in practicing it, or I maybe just suck.
Question, sir: You said pin #2 was high cut and wasn't touched so they were using short drivers. It looks like both pin 1 and 2 are cut the same, an apparent zero lift. So why did pin 1 have to be set and not 2? Also, I thought a zero lift pin had nothing to do with the length of the driver. The top of the key pin is cut so that it's already at the shear line regardless of the length of the driver. Can you help me understand what I've gotten wrong? Thanks!
I have a dozen large brinks padlocks like that. I am a novice picker, but I was able to easily pick them all. This type of locks only keep some people honest. With these locks, I almost feel why bother.
I think the first one for me was a security pin luckily I could see and I noticed if I let off the tension I could get it up then applied tension back and it would stay is that a security pin? I'm very new to this

The lock section at any store is his equivalent of the toy section.
Quickly made your way to the lock section... oh good im not the only nerd
Good God LPL is a damn beast
the 33 dislikes are from the engineers of the lock series
Looking at that key I'm kind of wondering if you could get in even faster with a comb pick?
Ok can you or have you made a list of the locks that you recommend? I believe I will go through all of these videos at some point but I can’t wait that long to find the lock I need lol
Looking at the bottom I see a Masterlock keyway.....and what I usually use for that is one hard look. Voila, open sesame!
I would be interested to see the Boxlock here. Ive only seen pictures but I wonder if it can be opened non destructively without a proper barcode
Short and Sweet...
Always great to see a new video!
What padlock would you recommend under 50 dollars from your experience? All tool stores near me basically only sell Masters...
1:19 I was like woah already
Every time I’m in Walmart I look at them even though I know what I’m going to find
Are brinks trucks secured with these locks? Asking for a friend.
Hey, a fellow mtb'er!
Your videos made me try lockpicking myself in the past week. I have a masterlock and i have this lock. I can open the masterlock decently quick with Bobbypins, but this lock keeps throwing me off. Maybe I’m not putting enough time in practicing it, or I maybe just suck.
Most likely it's the tools your are using
I just bought one of these.. I've tried picking it but no luck yet
What's the best padlock you know of / would suggest ?
I just bought a similar one! At least I’m wasting 30seconds of a thief’s time by locking up nothing valuable 🤣
This channel has taught me that the use of locks are mostly for psychological purposes rather than practical.
Locks are for people that never watched a lock picking video.
They are in competition with master for crappiest lock!
Where can i pick up these sorts of prybars? I really like the profile.
I don't know man they have some of those tsa-approved locks that'll probably give that Brinks lock a run for its money
I think the first one for me was a security pin luckily I could see and I noticed if I let off the tension I could get it up then applied tension back and it would stay is that a security pin? I'm very new to this
Is it worth showing the 5 pin Brinks when it can be bypassed?
My experience with these brinks locks thus far has made me consider that perhaps a lock made of tissue paper would provide more security.
