    I had gotten a quote from a painting company and I just don't have the money for professional. That company actually used Sherwin Williams products for painting, including painting over wallpaper. I moved into my husband's home when we got married. His Grandmother had the house and she put a floral wallpaper in the master bathroom. The master bedroom has floral and striped wallpaper. Pink and green. It has to go but she had it professionally done. The kind of job where you see old houses falling down but the wallpaper lasts for centuries! Yeaaaahhh... Thank you for your video. I will be saving myself some $$.

      LOL! I love the part about the houses falling down but the wallpaper lasts for centuries. Have you finished painting over your wallpaper? How did it turn out?

      @@LifeonSummerhillYou are SO kind & sweet 🧁🌸💟 I am happy I discovered you! 🙏🏻 I am considering possibly buying a house, it's a lovely French victorian style that's old world charm & character, lots of room, unique doors that lay out onto a balcony off the second floor, bay window area off the side of the house, spacious areas of the rooms and built-in walled shelf's and cabinets. It was our art teachers home, she was French and had a background in art and fashion. I grew up a couple of streets down, so I adore the neighborhood and am in love with being back in familiarity and comforts from better times, which that place spews for me. This is an opportunity to buy the house using my money, rather than finance which is extremely expensive now unfortunately. I sadly won't be left with anything to update/upgrade much unless over time I can save and overhaul projects for the house as my parents did in their house. I still believe it's an idea worth considering, because owning a home free & clear provides stability, shelter, and ability to start saving again. Unless the home ends up needing major work, which I'm waiting to find out, I think it could end up being the place I was meant to end up and is worth the investment long term. It is across from a women's college in Massachusetts. There are some rooms and areas I am not real crazy for, despite I love me my wallpaper! It's probably a Slavic thing but my family turned to wallpaper a lot because that all they had access to in the eastern bloc. No paint! I love modern prints and ones I choose, but don't necessarily want someone else's color schemes and taste when it won't match my decor. I am trying to figure out if I can incorporate the splendid older features that are classics and should be forever preserved & cherished, while improving and modernizing on things that need it, and somehow blending it all so it "makes sense". I typed in "can you paint wallpaper" and your so sweet & well spoken, patient and articulate, I follow and watch, and understood each step you explain. Your end results were beautiful, the contemporary look I'm aiming for to kind of bring the entire home outside in, to a modern clean era while keeping contemporary, neutral but keeping balance as some of the color rooms and wallpaper techniques I actually like and plan to keep. I haven't had the best track record for doing home projects myself, so it makes me nervous as video's on here often make it look easier than the reality. But your video was well executed and not so intimidating. It's hard for me to decide between taking that risk or playing safe and keeping it the way it is. But if it's going to be my final home, I would like to imprint some of me while keeping Mrs. Celine Bator's memory alive and the lovely style the home naturally conveys! I appreciate & admire your bravery and crafty idea's while being thorough and having basic knowledge of more skilled results. Your bathroom looks professional and the color choices stun!!! This will help me as I wasn't sure if I should actually pursue and go through with this, if I won't have the money to make changes and we know with how expensive life is, hiring professionals is often too much money for average people. But I didn't want to pass up the chance to potentially own a beautiful house in a great neighborhood decent city, right where I grew up, bought & paid for, being intimidated by cosmetic aesthetics I see adding up. I have definitely subscribed and am about to see if you have more video's of other things that can help guide me. I too am a fan of Sherwin Williams paint. I love your coloring taste. Paint can have such a clean sense to it, bringing classic feel to the aesthetic of your home. I am only a fan of wallpaper if it's modern, pretty, but kept to below a molding border or focus wall. Not really whole entire rooms like they used to do. Balance is key. I am waiting for issue's to be cleared up with the title of the house, which this time benefits me actually, in my own circumstances. If the house has nothing serious, I feel more confident this could be a great investment and I can handle it. Thank you so much!!! I would love to know how your paint job has held up in there? It turned out lovely. 💙🌹💙

    1. Caulk all the seems before you out the primer.
    2. Caulk the joint between wallpaper and both ceiling and base trim.
    3. The above only works with traditional paper wallpaper, this will not work on vinyl, flocked or woven papers.
    4. Some papers breath so you may experience bubbling on your paint.

    i saw two videos in which they used Zinssner wallpaper cover primer. H.D didn't have it so we bought Kills oil based primer which shows wallpaper on its list of applicable surfaces. it all went fine . today we will put Behr latex on it.

    Hi, I've watched several videos about painting over wallpaper and wonder about texturizing. How does it look without the wall texture that is in most houses? Thanks!

    • @LifeonSummerhill
      @LifeonSummerhill  Před 2 lety +3

      Are you asking about if your wallpaper has a raised pattern? If you want the wall to look smooth then this technique will not work because when you paint over it the raised pattern will show. This is a very good questions. Thanks for asking. I hope this answers your question.

  • @tiffanigreen8116

    What would you suggest if your wallpaper has texture?

    • @LifeonSummerhill
      @LifeonSummerhill  Před 2 lety +2

      That is a very good question. Sometimes textured wallpaper can create a pretty painted finish. It all depends on how much texture you like on your walls. If you are not a fan of textured walls then you will need to remove the wallpaper or have a sheetrock person skim it to make it flat. They will be able to tell you if your wallpaper is up good enough to put a finish over it. I hope this helps! Good luck on your project and let me know if you have any more questions.

    I painted over wallpaper using Kiln's oil base primer 24 hrs. before using Vaspair, from Lowes, interior semi gloss. I noticed afterwards that my walls were sticky to a touch. It has been 2 years since I've painted it and it's still sticky. Do you know why and what I can do to make it not sticky? I did everything you did to paint over wallpaper.

    • @avenged7xundead
      @avenged7xundead Před 3 lety +3

      Yes, semi gloss is trim paint so it is easily wipable...you need a low sheen for the walls but since you have already painted them in semi, you will need to sand the shit out of the walls before you re apply a new coat or they will always be sticky

    • @avenged7xundead
      @avenged7xundead Před 3 lety +6

      Never use semigloss for walls!

    • @mrs.johnson8486
      @mrs.johnson8486 Před 2 lety

      @@avenged7xundead actually for bathrooms & kitchens it is acceptable & recommended to use semi gloss. For the clean-ability and also to have a moisture barrier between the moisture and the actual paint (barrier being the sheen of the paint)

    • @avenged7xundead
      @avenged7xundead Před 2 lety +1

      @@mrs.johnson8486aesthetically incorrect. It is not recommended by professionals to use semi gloss for walls. They make higher grade paint for bathrooms that come in any sheen, and have a mold preventative mixed into the paint so no worries there.

    • @Kikister101
      @Kikister101 Před 2 lety +1

      @@avenged7xundead you both are partially correct. There isn’t a 100% answer to this.
      For a bathroom with poor ventilation, a hot shower can leave a lot of water on walls. In highrises and skyscrapers, they have ventilation for bathrooms and kitchens that are always running but very poorly. I have seen quality flat paint starting to mold because of humidity. The sheen of the paint that should be used is determined based on its surroundings.
