    I’m a nature lover and artist and my home reflects my personality and interests with big windows looking into the woods, stone, wood, nature finds, pottery, baskets, some antiques and books. I have no tv, I’d rather look out the windows, read a book, do artwork, garden, or walk my dog. Your home should be set up to please you and not other people 😊

    Over the last 2 years I have lost 63 lb and gone down four sizes and clothing. Needless to say I am feeling so much better, have been taken off of three drugs, but I have had to continuously donate too large clothing. I have gone down to a minimal number of outfits and combinations as I continue to lose weight. Today I went to my local Goodwill store and was able to purchase four summer tops, three of which still had the new tags on them for $3.99 each . I would rather have money in the bank then expensive new clothes in the closet!

    I realized 2 yrs ago, I was a borderline hoarder. I've spent the last 2 summer's clearing out stuff (1/2 was stuff people left here after family members moved out or a parent died). I gave them til May 1st to take it or lose it. The give away stall in the garage opens June 1st. 😊 Local women/men abuse & homeless shelters all got what they could use as a hand up.

      I have hoarder tendencies too. And also like you, I have stuff that family left with me either to store for them or they thought I could use it. Last time I moved we filled up 2 dumpsters with stuff. I thought it would take me a lifetime to fill up the current house but in only 3 years I have stuff everywhere.
      It's difficult for me to get the right balance between having everything I need to be comfortable and having too much stuff. I definitely need to work on my impulse to obtain things.

  • @CanadianPrepper
    @CanadianPrepper Před 2 měsíci +10

    Minimalism is great. I can live with just a couch and an internet connection. As preppers however building out a homestead tends to be a maximalist process. Once you break that seal and start down the path to becoming a farmer, stuff starts to pile up. There's functional stuff and non functional stuff (this is just hoarding). Ultimately we save money not because its an end but because it's a way to acquire stuff. Stuff = security. However, there's a point when too much stuff becomes a liability (security risk!). It's a catch 22, I'll leave the proverbial 'knowledge weighs nothing' but add that a tractor makes more food!

    I am 74 and getting rid of everything I don't use or want. I am clearing out my closets, kitchen cabinets, etc. I just went through my clothes closet AGAIN and got a pile to give away, and this time I was brutaly honest with myself about the extra shoes I don't wear, the dirty old slippers, etc. I worked on the shed today and that was kinda tuff because "you never know, you might need that piece of metal, etc". I have stuff to sell and give away. Its a tiring job but glad I am doing it now and not later. I don't want to deal with extra stuff if i move or have my kids to deal with it. I am surprised with my success of selling some of it and rather have the money than stuff I don't use or give it to someone who needs it. I hate clutter and the extra housework to clean it. I want it simple but comfortable. Hubby lets me make the decisions which makes it easy, lol.

    The best thing to do as you grow into senior adulthood is to have a time every year and go through things to get rid of stuff. I lived with an elderly lady who was 82 years old for a year once. She would sit in a chair and pull things from every area of her home. She sat in her chair and got rid of a few personal memories, and saved the rest. The next year she would pull from every area again, and repeat. Her most cherished treasures and cards were placed in a shoebox.

    I married 26 years ago and still have all my furniture exept the couch, because of my children. I like the stuff I have and take good care of it.
    I like cooking and baking a lot, but don't use fancy tools. I like to watch Italian grannies cooking. They are the queens of minimalism; using a broomstick for rolling the pasta lol!

    Hi Prepper Princess I have sacrificed a lot of my late parents beautiful knick knacks and things. I had allergies 🤧 due to dust mites from stuff I had on my cabinets and shelves. It’s hard to keep everything. I donated all my vintage dishes I could not use. Your home is beautifully organized and minimal. My house looks empty except my room. I got baptized this month. I hope prayers help. 👍🌈😇

    I have a couple of reasons to get rid of stuff now that I am older. One my family has moved out and there is no reason I need a lot of this stuff anymore. Second, after cleaning out my grandmothers, my moms (twice) and my sister, I do not want my kids to have to deal with it like I did. It is a lot of work.

    If you haven’t used it in 1-2 years get rid of it. ( clothes you can take out 7 pants 12 shirts wear them till wore out, shop only from your closet!) dust with used dryer sheets. Get rid of stuff on your walls that your not dusting your breathing in that junk, people have a hard time letting go of stuff ( hubby is one who never wants to let anything go)

    Oh my as a fellow introvert and aspiring to be someone who has no clutter, I have wanted a “go away” welcome that. The other choice I had was “did you call or text First?“. Nope to people unless I want to be with them and nope to spending money on crazy things. I’m in my 50s and I’ve had to learn the hard way that as a teacher I don’t make enough money, especially as a single mom to be wasteful. Hard lesson but lesson learned. Thank you for all your help. I’m a huge fan of this channel and your advice.😊

    I still enjoy visiting nearby charity thrift shops even though I can hardly remember buying anything for the last 3 years or so. In fact, my visits are usually to drop off some of my "stuff" that I bought from thrift shops back in the 1990's. You could call the money I spent "rent" for the pleasure of owning the "stuff." You know families don't want Grandma's treasured "stuff" when you see Lenox dishes for sale for $4 each in the thrift shop. I get some pleasure when I see a very neatly dressed woman who appears to not have much money, buying something of real quality such as the Lenox - and I mean just one piece.
