This game still looks amazing almost 20 years later.
Agreed specially on Xbox and GameCube. Very crisp visuals and models
@@Kelphelp you should cover the bloody roar franchise next! PS2 GameCube and OG xbox versions
If I was a bigger fan of the series I would or if I had the titles. Not too big on fighting games so may not happen tbh
@@Kelphelp what are you more into?
RPGS, basic arcade games, maybe some boomer shooters. I'm pretty flexible but I don't like fighting, realistic sports titles and such. Everything else I'm open
Use to play this game for hours on Gamecube and when I had the dreamcast I had the first soul calibur game.
Soulcalibur II has really nice music and atmosphere. Also the announcer voice is nice to hear. I think that Soulcalibur II had a huge pressence around people, most of which I would say are casual. I would count game sales numbers as the hardcore gaming crowd. Also, bragging rights that you own the game and play it, make people think more highly of the game and the franchise. Because the soul of enjoying a game that a lot of people are playing is to play the same game, for that reason, it doesn't matter so much which game has the best um everything/anything, it just matters that what you're playing is the same thing that other people are enjoying. IMO
I feel this opinion for sure. If you play what you love, you always gonna have a great time and always will come through. One of those few fighting games that's just utterly incredible
Probably one of your best ones yet! ❤️
My love you are too kind to me. Me don't deserve you :3
It turned out great! I have a suggestion for another port vs port. Sonic Unleashed as the game was released in PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
I am always up for suggestions. Only difficult thing about the series is acquiring all the physical copies of the game to make that happen. Can be quite expensive at that. But thank you so much for the love man it really means a lot!
Xbox and gamecube version both were amazing
I grew up with Soulcalibur II, it was one of my first video games. I know am trying to get an xbox 360 for SC4, SC5, and SC2 remastered, as well as getting all the DLC for VI and buying 2 on gamecube again. I wouldn't do that if I didnt think the games were the best fighting game series.
I wonder if the Dreamcast survived who would they have gotten? Probably someone from Shining Force or Golden Axe.
Very possible. Console has always been a power house that was released at the wrong time!
@@Rj_2099 Nah, they should have done Master chief...I mean Halo was the xbox game.
It could. It was more closer to PS2 than PS2 to GameCube. Xbox on the other hand, was on another league vs PS2 aside from the powerful Emotion Engine CPU.
As for who should have been on the hypothetical dreamcast version, Ryu Hyabusa obviously!
......Sonic?....No?....Just me?.....ok...
game cube forever
Same. Im hella for the GC like crazy
Hate Link!
from what I heard, cloud Strife was going to be PS2's exclusive. I really wished Kratos would've been in Soul Caliber 2, even though he was on a PSP version. and for the XBOX, I really felt like Ryu Hayabusa Would've been a perfect fit with his DOA combat and Ninja Gaiden Weapons
You realize this game came out before God of War right.
Why does no one like hieachi he’s literally in the same fucking universe tekken is basically the future and modern version of soul caliber and he actually fits the characters spawn and link are literally just cartoons they don’t fit with other characters heiachi fits

I'm pretty sure the xbox version also had the 480p 16:9 output as an option
Either it ain't toggled in the menu or something. Done everything I can and no go my dood
Great video man you know what would be a funny port vs port resident evil 4 😂😂😂
You know that wouldn't be a bad one either because the PS4 edition actually has some conversion problems too! A 30fps animation stuck in a 60fps game is horrible dude.
I found a softmodded original Xbox in someone’s trash. Lol. And I was able to force widescreen.
Good shit dude, you got lucky there!
Tommy Platt how?
Swag vid man keep it ups
Cody Chan thank you friend. I miss you dude! :')
I own both the PS2 and GameCube games since I'm a big fan of both Tekken and Legend of Zelda
Do you think we’ll get an hd port with link on switch next year is the 35th anniversary of Zelda
Not likely at all imho. I don't really see that happening, nor Bandai Namco showing interest to revisit previous titles. More likely to see SCVI on Switch than II, and even then I don't think they have interest in visiting the title.
From what I understand, it does support widescreen on Xbox but only when played 480p / 480i rather than 720p.
Yea that is what I figured, can't have your cake and eat it too kinda situation. Still it is rather impressive to see it go up to 720p!
@@Kelphelp yeah, personally I'll take the higher resolution over 16:9, the borders really don't bother me.
@@The-Fishkeeper Agreed brotha. Sometimes clarity means more than just the view. Sometimes though ;)
You're right. Game Sack covered this game on the Xbox video.
the three are awesome!
Well you can't really judge the Xbox version if you're playing it on an Xbox 360. Behaviour is not 100 percent accurate.
eh.. i love this generation , ps2 xbox classic etc.. we are forgeting too fast about "old games" and running for new one.. today i got all ps console , not long ago i bought the last xbox to play some older games and forza motosport and horizon.. and some sim racing on wheel, but i love to play games from xbox classic nad ps2! pure fun! and the graphic is not bad at all like in psone ..
Ohhh.... yeah, you've gotta play the Xbox version on an original XB. As you mentioned in the video, the emulation wasn't always 100% perfect. I don't remember there being any issues with input latency with SC2 on the original Xbox.
Well the good thing I will say is now I have upgraded to an OG Xbox and component cables so any problems that were shown here in terms of Xbox emulation should be gone immediately! Gonna use that from here on out!
If I'm correct, I believe that the GameCube version was the only version that exclusively had a way to play online if you had like some kind of dolphin add on or something like that then go to VS mode. Don't take it from me but that's what I've heard.
That's definitely a Dolphin feature hands down. It usually adds alot of online features as other emulators. However it's not in the original at all. Modem wasn't even used very much for the GC to begin with.
I play the dolphin version with all 3 guest characters over parsec a lot
I like how informative this video is. I didn't know which version to buy first, and this video definitely answered that question. I had to Subscribe!

Which version did you get?
@@nerodeadweightclaudius5422 Originally I was going to start with PlayStation 2, then GameCube, then XBox, But I decided to start with Gamecube. Thanks for asking.
@@elijahlawson98 nice! The gamecube version was my 2nd video game ever, and it still holds up quite well!
@@nerodeadweightclaudius5422 It's seems like it does, there's just something special about Gamecube.
I own the PS2 edition. Heihachi is the best for me because I like playing Tekken 7 on PS4, Tekken Tag 2 on XB1 BC, Tekken Advance on GBA and Tekken 3 on PS1. I think Tekken will be a easy series to collect since I got a PS2, PS4, XB1, 3DS and GBA. Only games I will be missing is Tekken Dark Resurrection on PSP or PS3, Tekken Hybrid on PS3 and Tekken Tag 2 Wii U. Let's face it, TTT2 Wii U is just the 360 edition but with Tekken Ball, Nintendo costumes and paint for customization.
Also Street Fighter X Tekken. I do hope SFXT will be backwards compatible after Series X is released. And I'm fully aware the 360 version will not have Pac-Man, Mega Man, Cole from Infamous and the two cat people but they do not interest me at all. I do like the Mega Man games though.
does anyone know any Soulcalibur 2 mod for the Gamecube ever exist?
Probably. Don't take my word for it but heard some Dolphin texture mods exist for the game. If they have something similar for Project 64, should exist for Dolphin.
And subscribed!
Much appreciated man. Working on more titles right now so expect to see more soon!
It's amazing how people can dissect a game. Since 1995 all I've been doing is button Mashing. It's a great franchise.
I'm not a fighting aficionado myself so it's I do the same thing man. As long as you have fun that's what counts
There's something I will never understand specifically.
Why did each platform have very specific guest character
Link was executive to GameCube version
Spawn to Xbox
Heihachi to PlayStation 2
what was the reasoning or significance behind this? do each of those characters have something significant to each platform? or was it a copy-right issue?
I PREFER LINK I LOVE NINTENDO FORVER SINCE 1999-2000 SCHOOL YEAR THEN I BEEN LOVING IT SINCE MY TODDLER YEARS THEN
Because all the guest characters are exclusive to the platform, due to copyright. Those extra characters instantly makes the game more recognizable to the userbase of that specific console. I remember really wanted this game only because i saw Link on the cover of the gamecube version. Populair guest characters just helped selling the game more.
Link makes sense as Nintendo owns him.
The PS2 version was supposed to have Cloud Strife as the guest character, but deals with Square Enix fell through. As such, Heihachi is a back-up as Bamco owned him. Cloud would've made sense for the PS2 version as Final Fantasy was a Sony exclusive 3rd party franchise from VII 'til XIII.
Apparently Spawn was chosen for Xbox as the platform lacked viable characters that would've been fine for licensing. Dead or Alive was a very notable series on the platform that would've worked to represent Xbox at the time, but they didn't go with that as there were licensing issues with that franchise (at least according to Spawn's page on the Soulcalibur wiki). The Ninja Gaiden reboot also didn't happen until 2004, so it likely would've been Kasumi instead of Hayabusa due to Kasumi being the face of that franchise. I guess Bamco thought that it was easier to license out Spawn in the Xbox version due to the fact that Todd McFarlane worked on Necrid's design for SCII, so that's how we got him. A Koei Tecmo (just Tecmo at the time) rep would've made a TON of sense due to DOA's popularity as an Xbox exclusive on the Xbox at the time.
So, in short, Link was a primary choice while Heihachi and (potentially) Spawn were back-up choices due to deals falling through (in Heihachi's case) and due to licensing disputes / lack of viable Xbox characters (in Spawn's case).
Please tell me i just got the game for ps2 is their a way i can play with link
Well like i mentioned in the video each version has exclusive fighters with Link on GameCube. Nintendo never licensed Link to be on PS2 Soul Calibur II
thank you for that i was a soley ps2 player but i liked Nintendo games so its an expansion
This game even blew 3D fighters that came a little later like Tekken 5 and DOA4 out of the water.
It holds up very well to those standard and built upon it. SC2 is wonderful
@@Kelphelp Yes best 3D fighting game of the 6th generation of gaming hands down.
The two best fighters of that gen were soul calibur 2 and vf 4: evolution. Unfortunately the latter didn't have a 480p option at the time but it still holds up reasonably well visually.
@@eponymous7910 VF4 was fantastic I miss that series very much with out VF their would be no Tekken or Soulcalibur.

Always something I would want to do, but of course the obstacle for any PvP would always be acquiring all versions. I hope with time ill be able to do so
Actually i remember the original xbox expert talks about playing original xbox games in the xbox 360 there some few frame rate drops and delayed butbhe said hardly notice but hat bother me and seeing this exactly my though.
Wow, my man is a teen wolf.... the channel host. 🐺
Always was an animal, always will be 🐺
The Dreamcast Soul Calibur gave next gen a run for their money I suggest a battle in emulation where you can use one controller and upscale all ports
Naw I'm good on using emulation in that matter. For my videos for getting the differences, original hardware is necessary.
This is the one SC game I got kind of really good at (not that I was that great against AI regardless) and I practiced a lot in SCII and III. I think the Gamecube controller and the mostly simple movesets helped a lot and I always felt at a disadvantage when I was forced to use the PS2 and PS3 controllers for the later games. The movesets seemed to change a lot and got a bit crazy immediately after SCII. I don't know how well I'll do with a keyboard in SCVI when I eventually get it since I haven't yet prioritized the purchase of a PC controller.
Anything Xbox should do ya good so if you ever wanna upgrade that's not a bad way. An arcade stick will help remedy that as well
@@Kelphelp Thank you.
I notice input lag in a lot of Xbox games. Sonic Heros has major input lag on Xbox but is quick and buttery 60fps on GC

The xbox version look really good, but I'm having a lot of problems, in some maps and certain characters, specially Ivy, the fps drops are massive. It's almost unplayable. And sometimes feels like it's in slow motion. Other times it's fluid. I'm playing on the 360 so that might be the problem.
I prefer the ps2, because i've never really seen any important fps drops that a lot of people seems to experience
Gamecube has the same thing where you don't feel dropped frames. I'll admit I don't remember there being too much on Xbox but if it's outputting in 720p makes sense that the FPS isn't steady.
360 is the problem it cant emulate xbox well I put in NFL 2K5 and it looked and played worse than ps2
@@southsidetherealest2860 Yeah, it sucks. Specially because some games have "xbox360 compatible" versions, that cannot even run it. Like Halo 2 "xbox360 compatible" edition, that has a lot of negative reviews because it won't even start on 360
I have to say I prefer the PlayStation 2 version over the GameCube and Xbox. Heihachi may have been a last-minute decision since the deal with Square Enix where Cloud was gonna be the guest character fell out, but he felt the most fitting since I'd like to believe that Soulcalibur and Tekken share the same universe.
Remember the Pirate's Cove stage from Tekken 5? Turns out it's a modern-day version of the Pirate's Alcove stage from Soulcalibur II. What's more, the Yoshimitsu of Tekken is the successor of Soulcalibur's Yoshimitsu.
At first I was like "why the hell would these two games of all things be related ??" then I remembered that they're both series by Bandai Namco 🤣🤣
PS3 & Gamecube versions are my favorite so far!!!!!
Both extremely easy to access and play. Wonderful versions to get!
👍👍👍👍👍
I've played the GameCube version first, and it was one my childhood games of all time. I played the PlayStation 2 version next, and had fun with it too. For the longest time as a child, I never knew the Xbox version until I got it at around 2011. Now out of the 3 versions the GameCube version is the best in my opinion because it has better frame data and response times in gameplay, and the graphics are progressed in that version. The PlayStation 2 version has smoother graphics, and while there are slight long load times in that version, it still manages to have smooth gameplay and good response times, but not as quick as the GameCube version in my opinion. Though, the Xbox version kind of had the worse treatment. That version has sharper graphics and also some input lag and slight long response times, especially if you're playing that version on the 360. But that game does have fast load times though, and Spawn is pretty cool as a guest character. However, Link is the best in my opinion. Heihachi is good, but when I heard that Cloud Strife was the planned guest character, I felt that he would've been a better choice. That's just me though.
Link will always be the best special guest character and nothing will tell me otherwise. He plays so well but slightly OP
@@Kelphelp I played Link mostly in Soul Calibur 2, I found it funny that both Heihachi and Spawn share the same voice actor in English.
I wished you touched more on the exclusive guest characters, it seems like you glossed over them honestly. Not much footage of them was captured.
What would you have liked to see more specifically in terms of each character?
@@Kelphelp Gameplay footage mostly, movesets, maybe backgrounds and history of the character.
@@MaskedGuyCh ah now I see. Backgrounds of each character for sure would have detracted from the scope of the video since they already have previous origins. The video is about video differences and not character origins.
However I absolutely agree with movesets, but I'm not well versed in fighting games to really delve into that so I never touched it. The reason I brought my friend over was he is an avid FGC member and can easily describe this. That is unfortunately a huge weakness I have.
@@Kelphelp I'm not saying in-depth character history, just a brief overview of the character. It would have been within the scope of the video because exclusive characters are arguably the biggest difference between each version (or at least the most obvious), and the video _is_ about version differences.
Still a good video though, don't get me wrong. I just think it would have been more complete if exclusive characters were given more attention.
Edit: You even have them in your thumbnail, that's probably why I expected you to talk about them more.
@@MaskedGuyCh Trust me dude the way i see you are giving me input is constructive criticism more than anything on how to go in depth more in future videos, and I appreciate you takin the time to do so.
For a brief overview I can for sure agree I could have gone in depth in that, not so the full background of the character so that makes more sense in my eyes. Thanks again for your input man. Who knows, maybe I can go back and make this better one day!

Do you have a PS4 there is a GREAT Berserk game for ps4 in the warriors style. That style works great for Guts, and I think it is the single best warriors anime game.
I do have a PS4 but haven't gotten Berserk Musou. I am kinda biased since i find Musou games extremely tedious so I didn't want to spend money on it. I know, sounds weird but just didn't tickle my fancy
@@Kelphelp no, I totally get it. Musou games can be tedious. Personally I like them because I get to fight a curbstomp battle against thousands of mooks. I enjoy that the action is completely focused on my character. Do you play Devil May Cry? There are some great character action games where the enemies really keep you on your toes. Personally I can't stand darksouls, so I feel you on sounding weird:)
@@nerodeadweightclaudius5422 Oh there are plenty of games out there that do hack and slash right. DMC, God of War, tons of em. What makes Musou games difficult is that their nature of reptitiveness is pretty simple to obtain, with not much incentive to getting stronger. In essence it doesn't do a good job as guiding the player towards a goal. Thats my opinion on that for sure.
Dark Souls i adore for different reasons entirely. It's a game that constantly pushes you against a wall and you need to overcome that. Whatever mistakes you make are on you and up to you to learn. That's why I love the series. Not hack and slash at all, but a different beast entirely
@@Kelphelp My problem with darksouls is that enemies are hp tanks. I never want to spend more than 15 minutes on a single battle, especially when 90% of that time I'm just rolling around. I enjoy the mindless slaughter of Musou games BECAUSE its mindless. I'm free to think about things while playing and destress. That is a needed thing. Darksouls and Samurai Darksouls (NIOH) stress me out so much. The most skill driven game I care about is Devil May Cry 5, and that still can be fun, msinly to see how many ridiculous combos you can make while murderizing things. @@nintyfan1991 Yea I have no idea why Namco went that route but.....i guess? SCIII though was still a great game regardless
Brandon O'Dell Namco weren’t going to make a whole IP exclusive to a single platform because of a one-time guest character. Keep in mind there was another Soul Calibur game on the Wii (without Link) and it bombed despite the Wii having a significantly larger market. Coincidence? Nope.
The volume in this video has horrendous spikes.

@@Kelphelp Was watching it late at night with audio coming from floorstanding speakers, when one of those audio spikes happened my wife woke up & complained real hard.
It's a good video, but it seems to mostly happen when transitioning from normal dialog to laughter, a good example is a few secs after 11:10, listening on a tiny speaker from a cell phone the volume change seems milder, but on a full range hi-fi system its brutal, perhaps the relative position of the microphone versus the hosts changes during those spikes?

The only kind of thing that did better was the polygons, but everything else i prefer the gorgeous graphics of Soul Calibur on DC, as well as the gameplay. Anyways, nice video!
P.D: imo the best version is the Xbox because of the 720p 60 fps mode and 480i/480p widescreen. Also better details and Spawn as an exclusive character (though i prefer Link on the GameCube version).

@@Kelphelp yeah i own 3 versions of soul calibur 2 (ps2, gamecube & ps3) and I’m a hugh fan of the namco fighting games franchises so i familiar with alot of the tekken & soul calibur games.
And they removed the japanese vo only on the western (north anerica & europe) versions of the ps3 & 360 versions because the voice actor of heihachi mishima passed away around that time, they did also the opposite on the japanese version of the game on ps3 & 360 but in this version they removed the English vo.
And my favorite version is the ps2 because it’s a namco fighting game just like tekken and soul calibur started on ps1 (under the game soul blade) and i rather play with a dualshock than a gamecube controller or any xbox controller.
Ah that does make perfect sense and what I appreciate is that comes from the perspective of purely playing fighting games. I remember I mentioned I don't play any fighting games so this kind of insight is something I didn't know today!
@@Kelphelp happy to share it with you and great video ✌🏼
Also if you liked soul calibur 2 try to play soul calibur 3, this game is very underrated next to soul calibur 1 & 2 but i think this game is better than 2.
Naw pleasure is all mine thanks for the watch! And absolutely I love SC3. Had it since launch and is a great title and fighting game. I always had fun with it
Thought Romero was a chick
Happens from time to time but he just really has immaculate hair. He really does a great job maintaining it
X. BOX.
Why the unnecessary period?
ps2 version was the best controls and best guest character i definitely recommned it
As fighting games come it really is one of the most ergonomic. It works well for that reason!
For me it is definitely the Gamecube Version cause I dont like the Xbox.
Sounds stupid but thats how it is.
The Xbox version on 360 looks really good.
What I ask myself now is, why there would be the lag.
Maybe it is the wireless controller.
Maybe you can negate the lag if you would switch to a capled pad.
Just a guess.
I always go with cabled pads. I grew up with these and I have no proplem with it.
I like your videos. Just my taste.
Sorry for your small reach. CZcams is just so sated with content right now...
Good and motivated people often stay under the radar.
Thanks for the videos, man.
Have a nice time.
Cabled pad xD
Your words mean alot man thank you! I actually have quite a bit of videos planned very soon to release in January so feel free to follow my social medias and Patreon to see how progress is venturing on these.
For the Xbox version one flaw I realized about the video was I used an Xbox 360 instead of an original one which could be why there is that bit of lag. We used cabled pads to play and my friend Ramiro still Detected it. Hoping to go component for an original Xbox and add that to my set up!
Be my guest to play the weaker and graphically inferior ports.
We all know the PC version is the best, resolutions up to 4K, Widescreen, Every Character, and Controller you want. Truly an experience.
I mean that's pretty much way off the rails since there is no official release on PC, and that's all emulation which, again is going off the rails of playing on original hardware.
You are joking... right?
