I know that Robert isn't the most technical drummer out there, but what he does well is hit hard and in time. Alot of drummers are just simple which imo is good for this type of music.
I can tell you were the beautiful IGWT tour kit went. Bob had it up for sale for 10K I called and was interested. He had already sold it to a dumbass who painted it jet black!!! WTF!! Me and Robert were tripping on that. It was a gorgeous kit.
Surprised every child hasnt gotten on here claiming Lars Ulrich is faster double bass yet. Robert still holds that title and always will. Too bad this solo didnt show it.

Despite looking absolutely ridiculous, he does/did have some good chops, it's just that he seems to be concentrating more on how his hair flows while he's playing than actually concentrating on his drum parts. I know it was the 80's and early 90's glam rock thing but these guys were suppose to be something distinctly original but in the end they were just like everybody else, only their message was a little different.

It looks and sounds amaizing but the over-loud kickdrums pretty much wash away other sounds. I know it has nothing to do with drummer but still it's a distraction

Robert is a good rock drummer, but he isn't even close to league that Rod Morgenstein or Nicko McBrain. Nicko would blow Robert of the stage while blindfolded
Robert Sweet could be a self taught drummer like Tommy Lee. They didn’t learn traditional snare drumming rudiments but they have their own sound and impeccable timing.

Years later I was working at my ex drum teacher Drew Forsyth of QR fame and Motley came in for rehearsals and man we just picked up like we never left. Tommy was a snare drummer in a marching band like myself. He knows a ton of rudiments. Robert is good at what he does. He is a very good dude and am blessed to have gotten to know him.
My point is Robert is a nice guy, but an average rock drummer. The stuff he is doing any drummer with a few years of lessons and proper instruction could do easily. See that's the trick of being a drummer. The stuff looks harder than it really is to play. Like I said put a solo from McBrain or Morgenstein against this and it would be the rodney king of drummer beatdowns.
Then you better put a bunch more "drummers" in that list.. Peter Criss, Lars Aldrich, Dave Grohl, are just 3 of a long list of dudes that are not good drum soloists at all.. yet they have made millions and sold tons of albums and traveled the world so that's more than alot of people can say.
I can play better and I’m a guitar player. So there’s that too… whatever I think he’s great for the band. I used to love Stryper. Lost interest after Against the Law. Underrated guitar players for sure. Bass and drums are typical. I will say Soldiers are his best drumming skillz.
Uggh it's very simplistic. I could teach a student how to do this exact same solo within 6 months starting as a noob drum student. I did the 80's hair metal thing in Los Angeles and a lot of the shit you think is soooo hard to play is simple. You want out of this world drumming? Listen to Billy Cobham or Steve Smith or Bozzio.
Robert Sweet has always been one of my favorites...killer beats with a lot of finesse and showmanship...flashy set never hurt anything either!!
