agreed... and come on,,,the production... I still think Robert's drums sound is more powerful than Bonham... and I am a drummer... but that snare and bass drum are epic
I got the Stryper album Soldiers Under Command on cassette in 85 when I was home on leave from the Army. I threw it on my carry on luggage cuz I was leaving for California from Detroit the next day and wanted to listen to it thru my walkman on the plane. I put it in and pressed play and it played backwards. I was like, WTF and thought it was my walkman, so I put in another cassette and it played normally. Put the Stryper back in, still played backwards, fwd to the next song, backwards, the whole thing was backwards. I thought God was trying to send me a message...then I thought, wait Stryper is a Christian band, God should want me to hear their music, or maybe there's a message that I'm supposed hear. Then I thought Satan was doing it cuz he didn't want me to hear the Christina music...it really fucked with me. After awhile, I chalked it up to just a bad cassette and the tape was installed on the cassette backwards or something stupid.
I was in high school and they came to perform at our auditorium, I was a roadie for day..jammin for Jesus...they helped me know Jesus... Isaiah 53:5...with his stripes we are healed!
The singer said in an interview a few years back.if I knew then that I'm going to sing these songs 30 years later ,,I wouldn't of sang them so high....
Oh he can still belt it out. It’s really impressive how he’s one of the few vocalists from this era of music who can still hold his own. I tip my hat to anyone who can sing the same song for 30 years and still have an incredible voice.
I've heard that alot, don Dokken said back then the guitar players just came up with the riffs and as the singer you just had to figure out how to make it work vocally 😂
현장에서 관람한 사람입니다. 이 곡이 마지막 곡이었는데 드럼 세트가 돌던 장면을 잊을 수가 없네요. 공연 시작과 동시에 관객이 앞으로 우르르 밀려나와 난리가 나서 첫 곡 연주 도중에 공연을 중단 시켰었는데, 관객들이 진정이 안되서 지체되고 있었죠. 스트라이퍼 맴버들도 화내고... 그때 DJ 김광한씨가 무대에 올라와 관객을 진정시켰던 장면이 생각이 나네요. "여러분들 때문에 앞으로 이런 공연이 한국에서 더 이상 안 열리면 죽어 버릴거에요!" 라고 하셨던걸로 기억합니다.
Look at those beautiful black and yellow Jackson guitars! I miss those! Regardless of Christian or not, Stryper was and is awesome metal. INCREDIBLY underrated and underappreciated guitar players
I'm 77 years old, and i love this band! I've been listening since they came out, and they never disappoint. I love the lyrics ! These guys never back down or dilute the truth. I get seriously fired up the same as if it was my first time hearing them! To Hell With The devil is my battle cry.
Yes i like them as well I've seen them twice once in 1989 with Timothy Gaines and again in 2018 at the gov. With only three of them micheal. Robert and perry Oz was in hospital
EXACTLY! Not a single band can make it sound like this nowadays, nor live nor in their studio records. ALL of them sound so "computarized", "pre-setted"... guess it is because everything was more "analog" or something back then, or maybe sound engineers/technicians are thaught different from like they were 35 years ago, or I dont know... and same with guitar tones and sound.

원래 취지는 새앨범 프로모션 공연이었는데, 헤비메탈 라이브 콘서트에 목말랐던 수많은 팬들이 몰려서 풀콘서트급 공연으로 변했고, 공연을 주최한 기획사는 기대이상의 수익을 거뒀구, 공연에 와준 팬들한테 감사한다며 플라스틱 재질 책받침을 배포 ㅎㅎㅎ. 노란색과 검은색의 색상이 잘 어울렸고, 360도로 회전하는 드럼세트가 인상적이었던 기억에 남는 콘서트. 아쉬운점은 무대 바로앞에서 밀치는 몸싸움이 일어나서 부상자들이 생김. 대부분이 어린 여학생들. 그나마 중상자는 없어서 다행.
크리스챤 메탈이라니...맙소사! 당시에도 호불호가 좀 나뉘던 그룹. 그렇지만 메탈을 듣는 사람이라면 절대 안들어 봤을 리가 없는 노래! 그룹 전체의 역량도 어마어마하던 그룹. 나의 최애 테이프에 한 곡을 차지했고 오랜 기간 자리를 넘겨주지 않았던 노래! to hell with the devil
Korea's first heavy metal band performance. I remember that time. I was obsessed with striper music and saw posters of their Korean performances on the street. Heavy metal performances have never been held in Korea yet. The Christian message must have influenced the permission of the performance. I didn't go, but I had a friend who was there, and he said it was a very moving performance.
The Summer of '89 I was playing bass for a working speedmetal band by the name of Defcon. Our drummer was good freinds with the drummer of Stryper, their practice studio was next to ours in a warehouse complex in Santa Ana California. My son was born in Long Beach Cal. In Nov. '89.
와~ 저 당시 1층에서 흥분되는 심장 부여잡고 기다리는데 만명 정도 입장하고 입장권 만원였던 기억이 나네요. 대부분 관객들이 10대 후반, 20대 중반정도 되신 분들였고, 아니 이렇게 메탈음악에 목말랐던 사람들이 그으르케 많을 줄이야!! 스트라이퍼 팬이 아니더라고 국내 최초 헤비메탈 밴드 공연은 처음이라 곳곳에 숨어있던 메니아들이 다 모인듯, 그리고 1층보다 차분하게 앉아있던 2층 좌석분들이 중간에 공연 중단되니 더 개분노하면서 왜 중단하냐고 단합해서 난리치고, 수많은 락페가 생겼어도 스트라이퍼 공연이 아직도 기억에 남네요.
I was a Stryper Fanatic! I was entering my teen years when they came out. I’m a preachers kid so this was how I got to listen to metal. Groups like Stryper, Novella, Deliverance, Seventh Angel were what I listened to until I was able to hide my Metallica and Megadeth albums.
Metallica can go **** themselves, they have a few kickass songs but their name sounds like something a teenage giirl would make up and write on her Peechee. And no that's not a euphemism, a Peechee was a folder for holding school homework and papers back in the day. "Metallica" dumbest name ever. Megadeth on the other hand has always kicked ass and has a cool name. And some spiritual awakening and significance. Dave Mustaine is an example.
One of my old PK friends Ronnie Kastens turned me onto listening to stryper's music back in the mid 1980's. He was always rocking out to their albums and U2's. albums.
글쎄요. 그당시는 군부 독재의 잔재가 많이 남았던 시절이라, 스트라이퍼가 대한민국 해외 메탈밴드 최초일 정도로, 검열이 많았던 시절입니다. 당시 발매된 메탈리카 Master of puppet 앨범중 3곡이 잘려나가, 나머지곡은 ep에서 짜집기 앨범으로 발매된 시절입니다. iron maiden의 piece of mind 앨범 역시, 앨범의 절반이 잘려나갈 정도로, 암흑의 시대였지요. 80년대 전세계를 해비메탈이 강타했음에도 불구하고, 대한민국에 메탈밴드가 자리잡지 못한 이유가 바로 군부시절의 검열때문으로 봅니다. 결국 90년대 민주화시대를 맞이하긴 했으나, 메탈이 대한민국에 자리잡기 전에 댄스뮤직이 대한민국의 주류로 자리잡으면서 더더욱 대한민국 메탈밴드는 자리잡기 더욱어 어려워졌다고 봅니다.
지금 그래도 코로나 이전 해마다 해외 유명 락&메탈 밴드들 내한오는데 80년대는 꿈도 못꾸던 시절입니다. 90년대 중반까지도 많은 수의 유명 메탈 앨범들이 정식 라이센스 허가 못받았어요. 2천년대 이후로 옆나라 일본 만큼은 아니지만 한국 살면서도 나름 쥬다스 프리스트, 모터헤드, 메탈리카, 오버킬 등 유명 밴드부터 각종 언더그라운드 밴드들까지 볼만한 밴드들은 다 보면서 삽니다.
동갑이군요. 저도 그때 공연끝나고 빈무대에서 이펙터 세팅 한거랑 드럼세트 들 한참 본 기억 나네요. 특히 콧수염 기른 주한미군이 스트라이퍼 톤 으로 옷잎고 돌아다닌것들. 공연 다 끝나고 공짜로 나누어준 브로마이드. 특히 국내최초 스탠딩 공연이었으나 시작과동시에 사람들 앞으로 몰려 취소된걸 김광한 아저씨가 혼내가면서 정리 시켜서 30분 만에 겨우 재개한 것들 하며...
Yup when it comes to vocal prowess at the time and in that musical genre the top 3 were Axl Rose, Sebastian Back and Michael Sweet. There were plenty of other great singers but when it comes to devastating vocal abilities no one could touch those 3.
89년이 국내 락 공연역사가 새로 써지는 해였지 잠실 체조경기장 에서 생전 첨본 당대최고의 전성기 메탈공연을 관람했었던 문화적 충격 죽을때까지 못잊을듯 최초 해외 메탈밴드 내한공연 스트라이퍼 3월 라우드네스 2월 오프닝으로 아시아나가 같이 출연했고 시대는 억압적이였지만 음악만 보면 저때가 민주화된듯한 느낌이랄까 록음악의 전성기여서 그런지 시대의 조류가 바껴서 록음악은 더이상 메인스트림의 주인공이 아닌 변방으로 내몰린 신세가 됬지만 저시절에 명작들은 다쏟아져 나온듯
@@SJY0950 89년 10월인가 11월에 강서구 등촌동에 있는 체육관에서 라우드니스가 최초로 내한공연을 했죠. 그 큰 무대 앞에 커텐 쳐놓고 마샬앰프 몇대 놓고 아시아나가 공연을 했고 라우드니스를 오래 기다렸던 관중들은 임재범이 노래 부르는 와중에 물러가라며 휴지 뭉친 것과 포스터 구긴 것을 마구 던졌고 임재범은 피하면서 노래를 불렀었죠. 아시아나의 연주와 임재범은 훌륭했지만 관중은 좀 과격했었어요. 무대 맨 앞에서 공연을 봤었는데 인생 통틀어서 잊지 못할 멋진 공연이었습니다. (당시 대학교 3학년 )
Robert always did and does crazy stuff when performing live that dramatically surpasses what he does in the studio. In one recent show in Brazil Robert stole the show even though he never sang a single word. Robert is one of those guys that thrives off the energy of the crowd and reflects it back at them 10 fold. The more energetic the crowd gets, the wilder Robert gets lol.

진짜 말이 안나올 정도로 경이롭다... 성악 기반 발성에 타고난 음역대 자체도 워낙 높은데다 고음에서 꽉차고 힘있게 질러주는게 속이 뻥뚫림. 거기다 저런 노랠 기타치면서 쌩라이브 한다는거 자체가 뭐 ㅋㅋㅋ 씹재능에 성대까지 타고난 괴물of괴물

이공연을 저 맨앞줄에서 봤는데 와..추억이다
당시 국내 내로라하는 밴드들이 보러 왔다가 좌절과 보이지 않는 수준의 벽을 느꼈다는 그 전설의 무대 ㄷㄷ 지금이야 촌스러워 보이겠지만, 마이클 스윗의 끝을 알 수 없는 엄청난 성량의 초고음과 밴드의 화려한 의상, 무대 비쥬얼은 가히 충격으로 다가왔을 듯.
지금봐도 한계 느끼실듯 완성형 보컬이라

저 당시 건스앤로지스, 본조비, 데프레퍼드 등에 비해 지명도는 떨어져 내한 공연 때 관심을 덜 받았지만 음반을 씹어먹는 최강의 보컬과 라이브를 보고 바로 입덕했었죠. 30여년이 지난 지금도 가끔 찾아보는 레전드 라이브죠

Stryper - To Hell With The Devil 앨범 명반이죠 수록곡들 다 좋고, 한번 들으면 귀에 속 들어오고 자켓 디자인도 멋있고
미쳤네....1989에 이런 퀄리티가...

원래 취지는 새앨범 프로모션 공연이었는데, 헤비메탈 라이브 콘서트에 목말랐던 수많은 팬들이 몰려서 풀콘서트급 공연으로 변했고, 공연을 주최한 기획사는 기대이상의 수익을 거뒀구, 공연에 와준 팬들한테 감사한다며 플라스틱 재질 책받침을 배포 ㅎㅎㅎ. 노란색과 검은색의 색상이 잘 어울렸고, 360도로 회전하는 드럼세트가 인상적이었던 기억에 남는 콘서트. 아쉬운점은 무대 바로앞에서 밀치는 몸싸움이 일어나서 부상자들이 생김. 대부분이 어린 여학생들.
그나마 중상자는 없어서 다행.
저때면 백두산,시나위 국내 락 활성화 됐다해도 메탈,락 볼모지인 우리나라에 프로모션 이였다니, 대단합니다
저는 중학생때 갔었는데 이후 성인이 된후에 가본 슬레이어나 밴헤일런 같은 여타 대형밴드들보다 몇배나 강렬한 기억으로 남아있습니다. 백스테이지에서 실제 연주한 기타도 만져봤고요.

I remember that time. I was obsessed with striper music and saw posters of their Korean performances on the street. Heavy metal performances have never been held in Korea yet. The Christian message must have influenced the permission of the performance. I didn't go, but I had a friend who was there, and he said it was a very moving performance.

한번은 부산에서 서울로...한번은 부산에서 전주로...감개무량합니다....
The Summer of '89 I was playing bass for a working speedmetal band by the name of Defcon.
Our drummer was good freinds with the drummer of Stryper, their practice studio was next to ours in a warehouse complex in Santa Ana California. My son was born in Long Beach Cal. In Nov. '89.
이걸 한국에서.. 은혜롭다
와~ 저 당시 1층에서 흥분되는 심장 부여잡고 기다리는데 만명 정도 입장하고 입장권 만원였던 기억이 나네요. 대부분 관객들이 10대 후반, 20대 중반정도 되신 분들였고, 아니 이렇게 메탈음악에 목말랐던 사람들이 그으르케 많을 줄이야!! 스트라이퍼 팬이 아니더라고 국내 최초 헤비메탈 밴드 공연은 처음이라 곳곳에 숨어있던 메니아들이 다 모인듯, 그리고 1층보다 차분하게 앉아있던 2층 좌석분들이 중간에 공연 중단되니 더 개분노하면서 왜 중단하냐고 단합해서 난리치고, 수많은 락페가 생겼어도 스트라이퍼 공연이 아직도 기억에 남네요.
역시 원조 맛집은 따라갈 수가 없다. 80년대에도 해외 록밴드 공연을 방송에서 내보내줬는데 막상 어느 순간부터는 아이돌과 트로트 빼곤 완전히 사라졌네
I was a Stryper Fanatic! I was entering my teen years when they came out. I’m a preachers kid so this was how I got to listen to metal. Groups like Stryper, Novella, Deliverance, Seventh Angel were what I listened to until I was able to hide my Metallica and Megadeth albums.
Metallica can go **** themselves, they have a few kickass songs but their name sounds like something a teenage giirl would make up and write on her Peechee. And no that's not a euphemism, a Peechee was a folder for holding school homework and papers back in the day. "Metallica" dumbest name ever. Megadeth on the other hand has always kicked ass and has a cool name. And some spiritual awakening and significance. Dave Mustaine is an example.
One of my old PK friends Ronnie Kastens turned me onto listening to stryper's music back in the mid 1980's. He was always rocking out to their albums and U2's. albums.

이때 라이브 갔던 분들은 평생 잊지못할 큰 추억이었겠다. 90년대 메탈리카 첫내한도 레전드였는데 메탈 초전성기 8,90년대 북미에 살았다면 어렵지않게 수많은 밴드 라이브를 봤을텐데. 북미의 삶 중 이건 정말 부러움.

글쎄요. 그당시는 군부 독재의 잔재가 많이 남았던 시절이라, 스트라이퍼가 대한민국 해외 메탈밴드 최초일 정도로, 검열이 많았던 시절입니다. 당시 발매된 메탈리카 Master of puppet 앨범중 3곡이 잘려나가, 나머지곡은 ep에서 짜집기 앨범으로 발매된 시절입니다. iron maiden의 piece of mind 앨범 역시, 앨범의 절반이 잘려나갈 정도로, 암흑의 시대였지요. 80년대 전세계를 해비메탈이 강타했음에도 불구하고, 대한민국에 메탈밴드가 자리잡지 못한 이유가 바로 군부시절의 검열때문으로 봅니다. 결국 90년대 민주화시대를 맞이하긴 했으나, 메탈이 대한민국에 자리잡기 전에 댄스뮤직이 대한민국의 주류로 자리잡으면서 더더욱 대한민국 메탈밴드는 자리잡기 더욱어 어려워졌다고 봅니다.
내가 행운아지 저 자리에서 공연을 보고
그당시 라디오에서 녹음방송해준것도 테입에 녹음해두었으니
80년대 10대를 보냈던 세대로서 지금보다 행복했습니다. 이 공연은 대학떨어지고 재수 시작할때라 못 갔었네요.
지금 그래도 코로나 이전 해마다 해외 유명 락&메탈 밴드들 내한오는데 80년대는 꿈도 못꾸던 시절입니다. 90년대 중반까지도 많은 수의 유명 메탈 앨범들이 정식 라이센스 허가 못받았어요.
2천년대 이후로 옆나라 일본 만큼은 아니지만 한국 살면서도 나름 쥬다스 프리스트, 모터헤드, 메탈리카, 오버킬 등 유명 밴드부터 각종 언더그라운드 밴드들까지 볼만한 밴드들은 다 보면서 삽니다.
한국은 그냥 락음악이 인기없는 쟝르임 동남아 보다도 시장이 작음

깔려 죽는줄 알았고 다음날까지 귀에서 윙소리가 나서 귀먹는줄 알았습니다.
동갑이군요. 저도 그때 공연끝나고 빈무대에서 이펙터 세팅 한거랑 드럼세트 들 한참 본 기억 나네요. 특히 콧수염 기른 주한미군이 스트라이퍼 톤 으로 옷잎고 돌아다닌것들. 공연 다 끝나고 공짜로 나누어준 브로마이드. 특히 국내최초 스탠딩 공연이었으나 시작과동시에 사람들 앞으로 몰려 취소된걸 김광한 아저씨가 혼내가면서 정리 시켜서 30분 만에 겨우 재개한 것들 하며...

Yup when it comes to vocal prowess at the time and in that musical genre the top 3 were Axl Rose, Sebastian Back and Michael Sweet. There were plenty of other great singers but when it comes to devastating vocal abilities no one could touch those 3.

89년이 국내 락 공연역사가 새로 써지는 해였지 잠실 체조경기장 에서 생전 첨본 당대최고의 전성기 메탈공연을 관람했었던 문화적 충격 죽을때까지 못잊을듯 최초 해외 메탈밴드 내한공연 스트라이퍼 3월 라우드네스 2월 오프닝으로 아시아나가 같이 출연했고 시대는 억압적이였지만 음악만 보면 저때가 민주화된듯한 느낌이랄까 록음악의 전성기여서 그런지 시대의 조류가 바껴서 록음악은 더이상 메인스트림의 주인공이 아닌 변방으로 내몰린 신세가 됬지만 저시절에 명작들은 다쏟아져 나온듯
라우드니스와 아시아나의 공연이 지금 삼성동 무역센터 였던것으로.. 공연 끝나고 대치동 집까지 친구들과 걸어가던 추억이..

@@SJY0950 89년 10월인가 11월에 강서구 등촌동에 있는 체육관에서 라우드니스가 최초로 내한공연을 했죠. 그 큰 무대 앞에 커텐 쳐놓고 마샬앰프 몇대 놓고 아시아나가 공연을 했고 라우드니스를 오래 기다렸던 관중들은 임재범이 노래 부르는 와중에 물러가라며 휴지 뭉친 것과 포스터 구긴 것을 마구 던졌고 임재범은 피하면서 노래를 불렀었죠.
아시아나의 연주와 임재범은 훌륭했지만 관중은 좀 과격했었어요. 무대 맨 앞에서 공연을 봤었는데 인생 통틀어서 잊지 못할 멋진 공연이었습니다. (당시 대학교 3학년 )
WOW Robert Sweet can give drumming lessons to the drummers of bands of today. Great power and sound of Robert.
Robert always did and does crazy stuff when performing live that dramatically surpasses what he does in the studio. In one recent show in Brazil Robert stole the show even though he never sang a single word. Robert is one of those guys that thrives off the energy of the crowd and reflects it back at them 10 fold. The more energetic the crowd gets, the wilder Robert gets lol.

마이클 스윗이 개쩌는건 기타도 같이 치면서 저렇게 하이톤으로 부른다는거... 기타도 리듬 깔짝이 아니라 거의 트윈리드 수준임 ㄷㄷ
ㄹㅇ 그냥 백킹하면서 노래 부르는것도 솔직히 막 쉬운건 아닌데 백킹뿐만 아니라 트윈리드 수준에 보컬 수준 자체까지도 너무 쌉 재능충 + 노력충으로 섞여서 현대까지 스트라이퍼 만한 퀄의 밴드는 없다는거 보면 아직 함부로 범접하지 못하는 수준인게 ㄹㅇ
