So I am giving the Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker and Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic a second chance. I was not the biggest fan of either when I first tried them out. But this time I’m pairing the 2 with ole faithful, wetline xtreme. Let’s see how this goes lol.

I've discovered that these two gels work better when you placed them first, then top with a leave in...a reverse wash n go. I think it is because they are moisturizing and it give a stronger hold.

Tasha B. I use them as a secundary leave in, they are very moisturising. So any leave in, either gel and then eco gel or wetline old formula. And i have hold and moisture for days. What you feel Nesha are the humectant

NJ Eberhart glad you tried again it would have been a pity to trash these. I was annoyed myself until i tried early this year paired with a stronger gel. I no longer use them as gel but as leave in. I never through products i always try different combination until i find The right one. Btw UFDCM pairs with mane choice tropical moringa glaze also which one of my staple gels
The thing I’ve realized with both of these gels - I love botanical gels - you do not need a leave in. Period. And then let it fully dry under a dryer. Then I know for a fact that they do great even in humid weather.

I’m not into having to apply 2 gels. They either work or don’t. But, I will use and do use a curling creme. My favorite to use is Obia Naturals Curl Enhancing Custard. That paired with Curly Magic is great!

Hey love 😊. To me the curly magic and the curl maker are more like custards than a gel. So I see it as me adding a custard for definition and moisture and then gel for hold because those 2 don’t give me enough hold. Thanks for watching 💕
That’s the same thing though. Curl creams are not meant to be used with gels, they are separate styling products.

PERFECT TIMING OF THIS VIDEO!! I have Curly Magic in my hair now and a couple days ago was thinking about trying to see if this would mix well with Jello Shot to give me the best of both worlds in moisture, definition, shine and longevity. I did this wash-n-go last Sunday and 6 days later that damp feeling you mentioned is still there (no gummies, this time, but I know exactly what you are talking about). My hair is definitely moisturized and with there being some humidity in the air, that not dry hair feeling persists. In the dry Winter months Curly Magic behaves differently for sure. Wetline actually gives me a similar damp feeling as Curly Magic so I might try this experiment tomorrow with an EcoStyler gel before I experiment with my Jello Shot.

@@NJEberhart Did my WnG with the Curly Magic + Jello Shot on Sunday and its an AMAZING combo!!! This is my new "go to" combo for sure! Since I also have a big bottle of the EcoSlay Orange Marmalade, I'm definitely going to see how that combo works as well since my biggest issue with the Marmalade is I find it very drying but the definition is bomb (but not as bomb as Jello Shot).
Another amazing combo! Curly Magic and Orange Marmalade! Curly Magic completly eliminated the dryness I experienced when using the Orange Marmalade. Long lasting moisture, definition and shine.

These work best alone and on soaking wet hair. You can top off with a non-glycerin foam, but leave-ins change the consistency of the product

Boo literally that is how I have ALWAYS used those gels on my hair! On my IG stories people always ask me why I love my wetline and curl maker combos! They just pair so well together! Now that you have tired that combo you need to try the braidour glaze with wetline! That combo is my go to! I just did the same thing using the bold buttery gel with the adwoa beauty leave in and topping it all off with wetline!
Im so glad you're on the wave now! I always use wetline when I have a botanical gel! I'm so glad you tried it again! And I know exactly what you mean when you say a firm hold but not stiff and crisp that is what I try to achieve every time I do a wash and go!

@@chanelle5946 Yes I sure do! I would recommend the passion fruit , tahiti cocktail, or plum nectar leave ins from she scent. Any soultanicals leave in or the mane choice tropical moringa and prickly pear leave ins. Something light yet hydrating with slip to easy penetrate the hair!

WHEW You scared me for a second there. I actually thought I really liked both of the gels but I know exactly what you are talking about humidity and moisture reactivating the products. I guess I always just accepted it as normal and never thought twice about it but now that I really think about it, those are things that I DON'T like so...maybe I DON'T really like the gels on their own 😂. You have never led me astray when it comes to wash n go combos, so I think this is one I will have to try too lol

i haven't tried UFD, YET. of course i want to, but Curlmaker is bae ❤ i have medium density hair so i think that's why it works for me. i applied Curl Love under Curlmaker and still got CRUNCHY hair when i used it. great video, love your results. tfs 😊

I love both but prefer Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic. My hair is low porosity, fine strands, medium density. I used both gels on their own. I air dry almost 75% and then diffuse.

Thank You for this information. You mentioned “shingle” type gel. At some point can you do a video of gels that shingle vs gels that clump. I never realized the difference. I think the reason why I’m not having success with gels is because I’m buy the wrong type. I would probably prefer a gel that clumps.

Looks great!! I’m not really a fan of the new wetline formula. I was able to snag some of the old formula on eBay. I’m happy about that.
I also wanted to share that I got AWESOME results with Style Factor paired with the Taliyah Waajid curly curl cream. It came out super soft and moisturized and lasted pretty good also.

Yes I used a loose gel with the main choice strong gel the double section edge and hair gel and my wash n go lasted 14 days and the day 14 looked as good as day 1 and I have 4c hair 💕

With Uncle Funky, because of its moisture level, you will need to add a leave-in with protein/strengthening ingredients or a mousse-like product with protein on top.
I use Innersense Sweet Spirit leave-in or Mane Choice Egyptian Cuticle Control lotion underneath and/OR the Innersense I Create Volume (mousse) on top. The Treluxe serum that you reviewed recently can also be used on top because it has KERATIN. The only time I use UFD straight on my hair is if I jut did a balancing deep condition or protein treatment. Hope this helps for next time!

I haven’t tried Camille rose, but I have the curly magic. That product never mixes well with anything I pair it with. I always end up with little flakes. I like the hold, but I don’t like the flakes. And it also makes my hair sticky and I don’t like that😣

Do you use Uncle Funky in the shower? I have to use it on soaking wet hair and get great long lasting results. Takes a while to dry though.

@@karynbrooks9920 I agree! With gels of this consistency; UFD, Curly Magic and Kinky Curly, I get the best results applying them in the shower on soaking wet hair. If I use these gels out of the shower, it’s harder to not use too much gel and I often end up with sticky hair.
I got the same results when I tried it with a leave in. I may have used too much but I def like it pair with wetline. No flakes and no sticky feeling. I hope that helps 💕
What really helped me was skipping the leave-in conditioner all together and using an oil I knew my hair likes. For me it's my Melanin haircare oil. Not super heavy, but enough so I know it's there. (Use your judgement but I apply oil on soaking hair, out of the shower so I don't slip and fall;) Then I use the UFD, then Wetline on top. I haven't had flakes since. Still great hold that lasts days. Moisturized too. Hope this helps!

I follow black girl curls. I personally do not have the money to subscribe to their online beauty community or buy the book. I am currently saving up for the book. But the use uncle funky's on naked hair that id just completely soaked with water as the "leave in" and they never use the uncle funky's on its own. They pair it with something else. One of the founders did her wash n go on CZcams and she added trepadora "i am hold" gel on top. However depeding on your texture they do recommed different combos. So I have the tgin gel which i don't enjoy currently and i have just been using that along with wetline and I love the results.

I tried both with only a leave in and I didn’t like the results. But I tried UFD again with a curl cream (Taliah Waajid is my fav) and it came out way better and now I’m obsessed. It’s more of a fluffy look but the curls were popping and lasted for the whole week. Try them with a curl cream instead of two gels!

I don’t use Curly Magic with a gel or a leave-in. My hair is dense, so I actually need a curl cream. I also never shingle, cuz there’s no real difference on my hair. I can’t do wash n gos outside the shower because spray bottles don’t re-saturate my hair well enough for creams and botanical gels. And sprays don’t help move product through the bulk of hair like running water does. I don’t like tacky gels because I have to work in smaller sections and that takes too long.
Hey Denysha. When I do a wash n go outside the shower, I leave my hair dripping wet. I never towel or t shirt dry so my hair stays soaking when applying products. But if I don’t do that then my hair won’t look good unless I’m in the shower lol. Thanks for watching 😊

These gels are super moisturizing especially UFD you should try it with just UFD and lots of water😁

What will you do to your hair in the meantime? Im type 4a and wash n gos are the only thing thats works for me. Its keeps my hair the most tangle free, stretched, manageable, and minimal frizz - twistouts and braids outs do the opposite which is so odd because Ive not seen that for other type 4a patterns. I only use 1 styling product too - curly magic (in the colder months ill put almond jai twisting butter underneath as my leave in and I deep condition every week w/ algae renew leaving some behind as well). But I only style while in the shower when my hair is saturated w/ the warm water and steam! I get a good 8+ wash and gos out of 1 bottle - for context my hair is fine, medium density, and passes my collar bone. I air dry some + a hooded dryer or my diffuser to set everything. I can push my wash and go to 1.5 week. I look forward to seeing what styles you do!
I’ve mostly been doing twist outs. I’ll keep the twist in my hair for a few days and then wear it out. I also been been doing protective styles for a week each month. I have a few of those protective styles on my channel. I have more protective styles that I want to try out so we will see how they turn out. Thanks for watching 💕

This is what I do for Uncle Funky’s and love it now. Just left the site looking for the 32oz almost out and they only have 12oz. I’m not gonna waste my time with the little one. The Curl Maker I like but you can’t keep refreshing your hair with it . Because it starts to flake but before to much I like that one but it’s a small bottle. I get more bang for my buck going bigger. Now I’m not sure which one to use😫

Just bought UFD & was highly disappointed.
It’s labeled as glycerin free but the 2nd ingredient is LITERALLY glycerin! I guess they changed their formula 🥴
Hey love, so many people have been upset about this. When I bought it, glycerin was not listed on the ingredients list. Not sure if they changed the formula or if it was there all along lol
I tried Uncle Funky's Daughter gel and I had the exact same results u had with and without a leave in. That 1 is a 👎🏾for me.

Hi! Because you said your hair goals are to get some length, I can recommend Curly Proverbz channel. Almost all her videos are about using some ayurvedic herbs to grow hair long and increase density and strength (and it's nothing too complicated either, as simple as just adding a spoon of Amla powder to your DC or pre-poo everytime, for example)
When I us curly magic I usually pair it with extra butter. I tried using the curly magic by itself and it was a nightmare. But extra butter and curly magic are a dream together!
