- Drills from Nathan MacKinnon's highlight reel.
Steve from BK Hockey runs us through several skating-based drills that replicate what we've seen Nathan MacKinnon do on the ice during games.
You'll notice a big focus on crossovers, outside edge work, and punch moves, as MacKinnon utilizes these in his game constantly to provide highlight reel clips.

Had my first time on ice in 8 years a few days ago. Having these videos for dryland training to work on off ice, and the skating vids has reminded me of so many of the basics I need to go back over. Really appreciate this channel
So much Skill to unpack...not sure I will ever get to this level
You can do it! Bend those knees and get low. It makes it so much easier. I believe in you!
I dont even think about the Punch moves as punches, just really hard foot plant and cut. Similar to a running backs jump cut in football. That outside edge drill is a really great warmup. As always big ups to Steve (and the camera dude trying to following him)
For me, it only takes good angle of the inside edge and not a "plant"
Punch tight turns are essentially what McDavid uses to evade defenders in the corners. He can maintain speed because his outside foot keeps the momentum going. Then he gets straight into his crossovers as soon as he gets out of the turn.
I wish I found this earlier! Excellent content!
Very cool, as a very below average (borderline beginner) skater, it's awesome to watch and learn the different forms of the punch move. Great video.
Steve is awesome. Best content as well
So fluid and he makes it look like this is easy :D Great drill keep up the good work!
Love you keep it up
I see this guy all the time in goodlife gym, loves his work ethic 💪
Great stuff!👌
Steve rules.
Can you show how to practice the "hop" into his crossovers Mackinnon specifically has. His skating style is so distinctive. Thanks!
I wish I could skate like Steve!
cool !!!!
So ein Können.
Abnormal. 💪👍❤️

Hey that's ice park in London! I play there on saturday nights! lol
Hi Steve, what ROH is the hollow for your skates?
Hello hockey training! I just want to say you have been very helpful and I love your videos and everything you do. I am a rep baseball player trying to become a rep hockey player as well because I am only house league right now. I am a teen and have aspirations as high as making the nhl. Do you have any tips for me on how I can move up to rep? My skating needs some improvement as well as my iq, and shot power. Thanks so much!
Awesome, glad to help you on your journey to rep hockey! Check out all of our videos and articles at the website as we cover everything to help you improve!
Can you do single leg power
Hi Steve!
I wish I had seen these videos 15 years ago when I was playing hockey but I suspect I would have had to lose about 40 pounds to have the skating endurance to pull of these moves without running out of gas.
Are those marsblades?
For those of you that want to skate like Nathan Mackinnon, start watching some speed skating videos and start doing some squats and sled pushes. No amount of drills will make you a mote powerful skater. Sprint exercises and strength training need to be balanced with the drills if you want to be fast.
When are you uploading again?😢
Couple videos coming soon!
Missing your content! Hope you’re all well.
We've got some videos coming soon!
Awesome video as always!
Was wondering if I could request a video topic: FACEOFFS. Every time I go to beer league to line up for a draw, NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE CENTER... so that means I volunteer myself as tribute and get my ass handed to me EVERY SINGLE TIME. When you have a free moment to record some videos, could you help a brother out? Thanks in advance!
Hi
looks so simple! but I've tried.. it's not...
Great video, and great skills to learn, but I don’t see how any of these pertains specifically to Nathan MacKinnon. For example: how is the “Nathan MacKinnon inside cut & shot” any different than the way most players would do it in the same circumstances? I’m not trying to put the channel down-as I said, it’s still a great video-but naming a series of fairly standard maneuvers after “Nathan MacKinnon”, kind of cheapens the whole presentation by assuming that kids will watch it because it’s got Nathan MacKinnons name all over it. I would think you’d want to go for more authentic approach by presenting these skills as great things to learn because they ARE great things to learn, and the instructor does a great job of explaining & performing them.
Most players don't accelerate 150 feet in nothing but crossovers like Mac does.
