    Belt drive is the perfect blend of direct and chain, plenty of metal drummers use them, myself included.
    Have owned these Trick pedals and the Speed Corbas with the ACD Unlimited Direct drive conversion kit and my Pearl Redline belt drives are the best feeling, by far.

    Just bought this pedal! Will be my first ever direct drive pedal and longboard! Ive been using iron cobra my first double bass, then moved onto Pearl demonator pedals which i currently use. but for style of my band I wanted something different so I decided to go with this! @flapjack413 Před 4 lety

    Congrats on the new pedal! bought a Trick driveshaft for my old Iron Cobra and was amazed how it instantly made the slave side feel like an actual separate pedal... So much more responsive and smooth. One thing though, regarding some misinformation in the video. A single or dual chain doesn't have any effect on the amount of footboard play. It's all in the hinge. It probably seems like that to you because cheaper quality pedals use a single chain because it's more cost effective, and their hinge mechanisms aren't built with the degree of precision of that of a higher end, dual chain pedal. It's totally possible to build a single chain drive pedal with a good tight hinge that will have as little play as a dual chain, but it's not in the interest of cost efficiency in keeping the pedal in that lower tier, budget friendly pedal corner of the market. Not trying to take anything away from your video, just informing the future pedal shoppers out there. Anyway, I hope you adjust to it quickly and are happy with your purchase, Trick really does make amazing shit!

    The only other pedal that cost more I havent tried are the acd unlimited and kopyto pedals which I believe are about $400 to $500 more than these but the tricks are the best I've used and I like how the tension for the beater is forward and not a down pull like the usual spring.
    Changes tension easier than any pedal made.

    Yeah I'm curious on what you think about DD... I returned mine and bought the 910s, I don't play a lot with the double pedals but it's in my vocabulary, when I went to DD I couldn't do single pedal doubles as fast as I could with a chain. Now I only gave it 4 days, but I couldnt do heel to either, being a 15yr drummer I couldn't stand it, so anyways can't wait to hear what you think about those.
    Keep on rocking🤘

    I actually play with 2 kicks so this "Double Pedal" would be ready for me out of the box, well with the exception of adjusting the tension lol. I just switched to direct drive, but just in case I didn't like it I went a cheaper route and bought the Ddrum QuickSilvers, which are a cheaper set of direct drive pedals and as it turned out I like the power I get from chain drive but love the speed I get from direct drive,so now I'm looking at getting some Tricks. Have you had any problems with them?

    I’ve owned one direct drive pedal other than the Ludwig Speed King that came with my first kit. It was a Yamaha direct drive and it failed on a gig right in the middle of “Come Sail Away”. I’d only had it for a couple of months so I didn’t have a backup with me. Reason for failure was a broken spot weld in the drive or axle. Played the rest of the gig hitting the floor tom as the kick. Ughh!

  • @PaulMarangoni
    @PaulMarangoni Před 4 lety

    The main differentiating factor between pedals is the shape of the cam, and how the pedal is attached. Direct drive pedals are non-linear. As you press the pedal down, the beater moves toward the bass drum at different rates, depending on how far the pedal is pressed. With a strap or chain, if the cam is round, the relationship is linear: the beater moves exactly the same rate as the pedal.
    As for your comment about straps not being as strong as chains, that is incorrect. Chains wear down and get sloppy over time, since there is metal on metal friction between the links and pins. Modern straps are virtually indestructible. Chains really only make sense if the cam has a sprocket.

  • @AlfonsoCorace
    @AlfonsoCorace Před 4 lety

    Coll vid, man!! BTW the more I play, the more I understand that it's all about technique!! yeah, maybe a direct drive pedal is a little bit smoother than chain and so on, but definitely you can achieve high speed with any good pedal!! I own an Axis and an Iron Cobra and in the past (play since I'm 16 years old) I owned DW's and Pearl's pedals. cheers!!

Like the ones that came just before or perhaps after just the cheaper one. I was able to get my hands on a pair of OG demon drives with the direct drive back when they first first came out, but they were a buddy's and he had to sell em. Anyway, cheers!

      @drylakedrummer Před 4 lety

      Oh yeah and can't wait to see you shred on these! You'll have to do a comparison of these and the 910s and like how the compression spring works and feels. You know Jimmy Pino actually went back to dual chain after having Axis longboards forever as he said he wanted to have a different feel with his double bass drumming. IDK....

    Owned trick pro1v for 1 year and a half. I recently switch to Tama speed cobra 910. I will never regret this decision. 910 are way smoother, so perfect vs axis/trick ( owned axis GK, hated it so much ). I don't really care about speed on the kick ( mostly listening to atreyu ) so I don't need much speed just control and awesome feel. 910 win easily.

    Do you set your metronome at 200 bpm 4/4 playing 16th notes? I never understood how metal drummers played their notes at high tempos. Quarter, 8th or 16th etc...

    • @thicknurman1949
      @thicknurman1949 Před 3 lety

      Not totally sure what you're asking here (or if you care anymore lol) but I'm assuming you want to know how many clicks per measure we have on the metronome. It comes down to personal preference, but people will generally just have it set to 4/4 (4 clicks per measure). Obviously there's anomalies like if you listen to leprous who will do 17/16 sometimes, but we generally just listen in 4/4 and count well. Many people (like myself) will also feel the tempo more than they count it, so it isn't very hard to go from quarter to sixteenth notes or whatever.

    I had a set of purple custom shop tricks that I loved the look of but didn't find the feel I was looking for. But since I sold my pedals they have released a weight relieved version which feels much better to me. But I still don't like the offset beater design. Especially since I play edrums where even spacing of the beaters to the internal trigger are pretty important. I ended up with the DW machined direct drive which has been a game changer for me and I really love them. But I will admit. Trick's build quality is second to none. They currently have zero interest in making a pedal with a more traditional spring setup. Claiming the spring system they use is what makes a trick a trick. I would argue their materials and build quality is really what sets them apart. And if they made a traditional spring pedal with the weight relieved boards I would sell my DW this second. Because as much as I love them I spent $1000 on the DW and the drive shaft twisted within a week and I ended up buying …… You guessed it a trick drive shaft. There simply is no competition quality wise.

    Step 1: Read the directions. Step 2: Re-read the directions. 😉🤣 As a guy who’s owned some model of just about everything out there (and now currently owns a Trick double pedal and two more of their single pedals), I can assure you that these are the best feeling, most durable pedals available.
    Since I’m in the studio recording every single week, originally I swapped to these pedals because they make ZERO noise. Over time, even my beloved DW 8000’s & 9000’s would get squeaky springs and noisy, clack hinges.
    My oldest Trick pedal is about 5 years old now and still makes ZERO noise. It also feels exactly same as the day I bought it (no cheap pull springs to wear out) Other than a few scratches from taking it out on the road, you’d think it was still fresh-out-of-the-box NEW.
    It takes a minute to get used to the action of the Compression Spring / Direct Drive Linkage on these pedals. But once you do... whoa! There isn’t a better feeling pedal out there.
    Don’t worry about any “loss of power”. That’s just not the case here. What you’re feeling is this: with many traditional Cam/Chain/Pull Spring pedals, the beater actually speeds up in the last third of the beater’s throw (especially true on pedals with an offset can). It might fool you into thinking you’re getting more power, but trust me, that tiny distance isn’t enough to make any real difference in power.
    The Trick pedals have a completely even pull all the way through the beater’s throw. If anything, you’re timing may get better because you’re not compensating for the acceleration present in that Cam/Chain/Pull Spring setup.
    The two biggest difference I noticed after switching to these pedals?
    1) Much less beater “waggle” after each stroke if you don’t “bury” the beater when you play (which I only do about 50% of the time, depends on the style of music & the sound I want to achieve) Less waggle after the stroke means less chance for the beater to flop back into the head in between hits (cleaner sound, especially when recording)
    2) Eventually, you almost forget there’s a pedal under your feet. It’s the most connected playing experience I’ve ever felt. The pedal almost becomes a part of your foot. No lag time, no latency.
    Once you get used to that pedal, then you HAVE to grab one of their hi-hat pedals. Completely NEXT LEVEL!!!!

    Pedals are not faster, it's the player that is fast or not, look at Gene Hogland playing with some old chain driven Camcos and reaching very decent speeds, it's called practice. I tried the pearl demon direct drives and they felt heavy, I tried the axis and they were really light but felt flimsy, the trick are nice but are they really worth that much? I think that if I was to spend that much I rather have czarcie kopito.
