Fantastic Thank you for sharing Mirror Dinghy is an excellent boat and very versatile I have a Mirror (66283) and in July will also take a little trip with him (Edgar)
in my opinion mirror dinghy is the safest dinghy on how stable it is even when you stand or even sitting on side and most especially for having 4 separate compartments as flotation.
@@kevingreen_boating oh, thanks for info. i think i'll double the fiberglass tape on mine.. btw i'm now on the process of making mirror dinghy one. i'm on the stitching part of the plywood getting ready for fiberglassing the bottom.
Great see Dinghy Cruising in Oz. Nice video production. I'm a DCA member on Northern Beaches. Just completeing more mods to my Cruising Solo. another Jack Holt creation like the Mirror. Will connect when I have relaunched.
Kevin Green Thanks Kevin but I think the Raid Meetup might have disappeared. I expect to finish my latest Mods to my cruising Solo by year end. You can contact me at bruce@ozdemographics.com.au for more liason re a rally meetup.
Hi Kevin, awesome pics, am trying to acquire similar (enterprise), me n Ska (Jack Russell/Spaniel) cross might sail by you one day, long ways though, South West Ireland, maybe Minches would be a bit too much for Ska, might send him freight and have him meet me in Oban :-) , again great pics, loved the show, Bill
G`day Kevin at 72 yrs, have just made a come back to dinghy sailing with a 52 yr old Mirror dinghy. It has been restored. How can they be so old and still fly`s so well ! I have fitted it out for cruising now, with batteries, trolling motor (30 LB `er) bed boards, longer oars etc. Now weighs in at 150 Kgs, doesn't fly no more, but still gets along at 6 Kmh or more in a good wind, and I can't turn it over with all that ballast forward of the centre board, have tried to on Lake Macquarie, but she just runs along on the side board with water running in and out over the gunwales until the rudder comes out of the water and she just drops down again. Like to catch up with you some time, could go on a raid to a coffee shop in Toronto or some thing ! RAY
+Ray Davies Hey Ray, thanks for that and well done getting the wonderful Mirror. My next trip will be exploring all of Sydney Harbour - where live but I'm always busy racing on it rather than cruising! Watch out for long powerful oars which may crack the topsides of old Mirrors. Love to see you boat sometime so hopefully I'll get back to Lake Mac and give you a shout.
Thanks Richard. Yes made the tent but a lot of work - 2 weekends. Bed boards r exterior ply that I sealed with epoxy around edges & vanished. Heavy wood but I only cruising & Wolfi the dog weighs 9kg :-)
Richard Kennedy Hi Richard, Thanks for the kind words and Wolfie is a lot more photogenic than his owner! Yes for the bed I simply used exterior plywood that I sealed used epoxy. Disadvantage is that it's heavy but I'm in no hurry when cruising. Boom tent was custom made using my sewing machine and a lot of work - sewing in zips, tags and then waterproofing. Tent works really well and simple. Material used is coated canvas so it does breath. The boom is on a second gooseneck I made from stainless and its about 1 foot higher than the when I sail - to give me headroom.
Fantastic
Thank you for sharing

Yes very stable and good buoyancy on the Mirror but old compartments often leek so need to be re-taped with fibreglass tape.

Just gets better Kevin! Your bed boards are 4 pieces of 5-ply? And did you make your own boom-tent? I love the dog, looks like he enjoys the sailing!
