Hey all! I will probably be waiting a few weeks to send the unit off to have it upgraded (you'll see why when it gets done), so for now I've just put the air vent back in and am enjoying the ICM3! Hope you guys enjoyed the video :)
Hey where’s a good spot to buy on of these / other things looking for a fuel pump and a outside temps tire sensor for a sportcombi 93 2.8
Hey there, first of all sorry about my bad english :) i have icm1, can i swap them for icm3?
And one more thing... I have wheel without radio control buttons, can i just swap them to, or i need sam extra wiers to connect them with icm3 when i upgrade to them from icm1
Hey in Aus we don't use the wire on the back of the tech 2 on the steering wheel, just incase the airbag goes off. Some young chick died from it back in the day, stay safe bro!
Where can i get Tech2?
I've heard something about saabs before, but not much. Then, after watching one movie on CZcams, I became more interested, and finally found your channel. Then I just fell in love with how great these cars are and "different". In the meantime, I read all the Saab forums in my country and it came to the point that I bought my SS aero a few days ago. Great content, keep it up. Greetings from Poland
Thanks for sharing! Im glad you're enjoying the content and I appreciate the support
Had been debating a TechII for a while and watching this video made me go for it. for this very upgrade! thanks for uploading. Doing to upgrade the ICM unit as well V Soon.
nice! thank you. it's a great tool to have
Icm 3 is hard to come by. When I bought my 2005 aero a couple of years ago the ICM 3 screen was not displaying anything. I purchased an different ICM3 from a junk yard. Swapped them out and now it works perfectly. I sold my old icm 3 for parts online last year. Great content.
nice! yeah, it's a shame they're so rare
I need that looks alot bigger an alot nicer! Thanks for the video bro
Thanks!
Another excellent video. Thank you! I have the ICM3 - 7 speaker system in my 2006 9-3.....just got the sat nav working with some soldering/splicing of the connection leads......it all works now....but it is a 2006 map and is rather dated...not to mention the graphics....but it's kinda fun. Not sure there are later European maps available. Going to soundproof doors next week ready for new door kickers, Audison AP 6.5 2 ohm....keep those videos coming in!
I’ve read some pretty bad reviews on a few saab groups and from a couple of friends on the Audison 2 ohm speakers, but if you’ve already bought them, please give some feedback for them after install.
Very nice! Glad you're enjoying it
15 years old, that is 5 years newer than the (navigation) maps in my S60 (it has the RTI).
Also I would strongly recommend all ways connecting a battery charge when ever you connect to the BD2 with a tool which requires the ignition to be on.
Lol it's fine to run like that for 5-10 minutes of work! but thanks for the suggestion
I have Stuarts upgrade and it’s working great 👍🏻
Nice! Good to hear
Enjoyed your adventure
:)
I installed an aftermarket double din head unit on my 2007 93 aero vert. And it is awesome I was even able to keep all my steering wheel controls and installed a backup camera :)
After mid 2006, installing a head unit in a Saab 9-3 is very easy. Between 2003 and 2006 it's an absolute ball ache as you need to modify the dash and bypass and rewire the factory amps
Yep ^ unfortunately 03-06 is much different but cool upgrade! Backup camera must be nice
Did u have to get that connect2 harness for the controls, dunno if u can do it without?
@@SaabUnleashed....do you know about 2004's linears? I've been trying to swap mine out and was told it's pretty much impossible. what aftermarket unit did you use?
There's a guy with a CZcams channel in Britain who sells kits that upgrade ICM 3 you take out the Liquid Crystal screen and some of the boards then replace them with an LG cell phone with an operating system that mimics a modern car stereo it is an Android system it will run Waze Spotify phone calls additionally your OEM CD changer radio display on dashboard bubble along with ICM functions work as original equipment it appears to be a really neat alternative to monkeying around trying to get aftermarket unit working in 93
Lol that’s literally exactly who I’m referring to in this video 😬
@@AutoAutopsy I'm pretty sure that's what I want to do with my 04 9-3 convertible alternately I might stick with the ICM 2 and get that Bluetooth attachment I think you did a video on it earlier it's a cheaper option that's for sure but the best it's definitely modifying it like that guy in England
I actually prefer the ICM-2. The green screen fits better with the interior in my opinion and having the knobs for adjusting the base and tremble is nice :)
Same, I just wish someone whould figure out how to modify it. I wish it would show CD Text on the main screen (its such a waste of space just to show "Play [Track]). I also wish the Saab SID would show different information than the radio display.
Really good looking
thanks!
Just some info for people upgrading from ICM1 to either ICM2 or ICM3, you also need to update the EHU with Tech 2 (that’s the main audio module, sits behind the climate control), if you want to be able to save more than 6 radio stations.
That is correct! Otherwise the new head unit will act funky and do weird things. Like raising the volume via the knob, the volume will fly up and down even though you are turning the volume up.
Good point!
Or it would also shut down and restart after a few mintues.....
is that why when i upgraded from a 1cd changer to the multi-disk changer , it randomly resets ?
Quick question i have a icm1 but I want to uppgrade to a icm3 so you need to so something extra with the wiring? And does the Icm3 come with any extra features?
A correction is that you WILL actually have to use a tech 2 to marry the different head unit to the car, or the buttons will act funky and do weird things. For example, if you have aux function activated on your icm1 and stick a icm2 in there that didn't have aux activated previously, your new icm2 will not have aux function unless you marry it/program it in with a tech 2.
The ICM3 comes from high spec vehicles and has aux enabled by default. Nothing funky will happen and you generally don't need a tech2. That being said, if you have factory options such as auto wipers, reverse sensors, amp2, if these were not present in the donor vehicle, they will need to be reactivated in your vehicle, as they are managed by the ICM
Interesting
Nice video didnt know unit sitting here is so easy to install. One thing I hate is getting tis access via tech2. Plus paying for day or week of gm access
If you ask around on facebook groups, there are people that can help get you security access
What do you need to get stock navigation to work?
Hello I watched your video of you changing your steering wheel can you tell me what are the buttons with the plus & minus used for + -
On the top of button trim? Those are paddle shifters
Hey dude, nice videos! Hopefully you can help with this issue: my ICM2 won´t turn on, even the blinkers don´t sound the "click, click" What could be prob? Thanks in advance.
could be the amp
Tech 2 is needed as well to activate parking sensors if previous car didn’t have them
good point
Heyy, I love it and prefer to keep it this way instead of doing Stuarts upgrade. actually no need for, at the end it should stay original. But I only need to know what is the other thing to change in order to make the nav works ?
Thanks alot
Probably a good amount. I don’t know exactly. The maps would also be from 2006 so they’d be pretty outdated
How do we reach Stuart to get the upgrade done?
in the market for a tech 2 where do you recommend i get one and how hard is it to set up with the saab program and all the security access?
aliexpress is where I bought mine; you can search around facebook groups and forums to find out how to get security access!
Does your old buttons from your ICM 2 fit on the ICM 3? Then you have some spare parts!? (0-9 and #* etc).
Yeah, I had another spare ICM2 which I grabbed a lot of buttons off of for this unit
Im looking in to doing this in my 2004 9-3 and was wondering if i will need a tech2?
please watch the video! A tech2 *is* required for full functionality.
I just bought an 03 9-3 2.0t 5 speed manual sedan. Only ever had (still have) a 2011 9-3 turbo4 sedan. What do I need to know (in general)? Everything is very different.
They’re the same car basically. Minus interior and exterior
I have instaled icm3 but gives error oil pressure low,but is working!
Strange...I wouldn’t think that would be related to the ICM
@@AutoAutopsy i add it with tech2 but give same error only key on checking, but if i clear it do not reaper, swap the icm 2 no error,
NIce! Any advice on pairing an iPhone with one of the standard/bose headunits? My iPhone 6 would pair with my onstar factory system (shown as "vehicle" in the bluetooth settings on the phone, but have no idea how to pair my new iPhone 11... its strange because at least with the iPhone 6 the car seemed to have factory bluetooth connection no problem.
Buy a head unit with apple car play their next level
I’ve never tried it but I don’t think it’s possible on such an old unit like this tbh
I just use the Bluetooth and aux
@@AutoAutopsy Ahhh - i figured it out! Apparently my car has the onstar with bluetooth but you've got to know which word to tell the genie. After hitting the call button, the command is "bluetooth". If you say that then you can tell her "pair" and she'll send the 4 digit code to enter in the phone. But thanks for everything, I love the vids - makes we want to get an aero!
This video couldn’t have better timing for me! I’m literary about to swap my ICM3 (with a couple of melted buttons) to another ICM3 (in way better shape). The only reason im doing it is for a better look since the rest of the car is very clean. Now here comes my question, i saw you took the buttons out, how do you do this? If I can do this I would just swap the buttons instead of going through the whole installation, tech2, and so on.. if you can help that would be awesome!! And for whoever wants an ICM3, I will have one for sale soon!! 👍
I used a small little metal tool that has a 90 degree bend on it; it's almost like a dental instrument
If so, keep me in mind. Sounds like a nice up grade
Can buy replacement stickers seen em online
Do you plan on selling that icm-3 since you're going the other way
Question - can I mount a navi from lift 9-3 to pre-lifts ? will it work?
no it won't
Hi there I've got ICM 2 in my one , AM I need gm tech 2 to set it up?
Thanks 🍺👍
for ICM1 to ICM2, i don't believe you need a tech2
No its not, anything can flicker a/c to go back to celcius. You use the on-board controls to fix it. You don't need security access. Use the knob on the same panel that has night panel button has the ability to change to fahrenheit. It goes to the screen that shows which channel is displayed on the icm2 radio as a menu.
I did it with a tech2 lmao
I have both icm2 in an 05 and an icm3 factory in my 06. I actually prefer the icm2.
I'm liking the ICM3 more so far; my only gripe is the lack of knobs to adjust the bass, treble, etc.
Hi Jeremy, what reasons came ro mind for preferring the ICM2? Thanks for your feedback.
@@simonreece5122 The screen on the icm3 can be bright at night. I constantly switch between the night mode and day mode. Also the nav is a novilty due to the maps being so out of date.
Just a comment about the head unit on Saab9-3. I replaced it with a 2-din unit with a huge touch display compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android (Alpine Halo-9 floating screen). I had to make the change to be able to use Maps/Google Maps/Spotify in my car. I understand that having original parts is the best but what do you think of these choices?
I personally wouldn't upgrade any 03-06 unit to something aftermarket unless it's like the one that i mentioned in this video. that's just my two cents though!
@@AutoAutopsy I agree. I think I did my Saab wrong. Might have to buy a new Saab. (This unit was for my 2007- model)
Ah yeah, completely different interior! 😁
How did u get global tis/tis2000 to work with windows 10?
Richard LaBarre on facebook can help you get security access
What about the 2004 og 9-5's, are there any head unit upgrades for them?
I was wondering to bc i have the OG Saab linear head unit
There is a nav unit i believe, but you can also do something aftermarket as well
@@AutoAutopsy awesome!! Thanks man
Looking forward to modding your ICM3 :)
Can’t wait! Thanks again 😁
Hey how much do u usually charge for that thing if of upgrading my icm2 to a 3 and would love that
Same, i hope he wont just put a phone in as display
@@JustusCounterStrikeContent well... that’s exactly what he does 😃
@@HowwHardCanItBewell poor icm3..
hi what had to be upgraded on the head unit
nothing
Hello does anyone knows if it’s possible to replace an ICM3 lcd screen ?
Yes. Stuart Bell on CZcams makes an upgrade for it
Is there anything new that I can get to install that has a touch screen with updated navigation, bluetooth, hands free phone connection, etc? Like I want something new new for this if there is anything I can get for any price that would be awesome of you could point me in the right direction!
Stuart Bell (see his CZcams) makes a nice unit. Anything else would require A LOT of work for 03-06
I was able to put an Alpine ILX-W650 which is a double din 7” touch screen in my 03 9-3. It required bypassing all three amps (I have the upgraded Pioneer stereo system) and rewiring the entire car to all 13 speakers. It costed quite a bit of money to have done at a shop. There’s no dash kits that I’m aware of for the 03-06 years so I had to cut out a spot and make my own brackets so the screen would sit where the ICM unit does. Typically stereo shops will want to remove the CD player and put the screen there but in my opinion it’s not a great place for it and could be too distracting to use while driving. I was unable to get the steering wheel controls to still function with the new stereo though. Universal adapters didn’t work and I so far haven’t found on that does. Having the car rewired also means that putting new speakers in it is a breeze. It’s not impossible to have a modern stereo but it sure is a lot of work to do so.
"my buddy"
Sorry, I should’ve known we’re not that close yet :(
I've been watching your channel since your 1st vid . If I am not wrong, I remember you said your Tech 2 is about $200- ( online purchase ), but I can't remember if it is from China, could you tell where you get it from ???
i bought mine from ali express and it was a little over $300!
@@AutoAutopsy Thanks a lot ... 👍👍
@@AutoAutopsy Could you tell from which Ali-Express seller you purchased from ? As I knew there are many bad TECH 2 for sale from China ... Thanks !
Saab 9/3
Hi man! It is possible to upgrade from ICM 1 to ICM 2 or 3 ?
Yep!
@@AutoAutopsy Thx very much!
Aftermarket Units don't fit right unless you get a fascia kit to fit in the Saab interior seamlessly I prefer OEM due to the aesthetics it just fits right.
Big fan of yours George
Thank you George Washington. You are always welcome in the Saab community
George, you’re a visionary and a scholar. However, I’d ask that you check out Stuart’s channel and kit. Because trust me, usually I feel the same way!
I have Alpine Halo-9. It was a b**** to install and cost quite a lot but it fits in the 2-din space in my Saab93. Even the floating display is not in the way of the wents.
*Fyi you won't be able to change your treble and bass because the original screen is needed to see the levels. That is a deal-breaker for me since I need the ability to change them (flat all of the time not a fix for me).
yeah, that's true. I can still adjust it with the buttons if I have the "process" for it memorized to get to the menu. I already took a video to show exactly how to do it so I know in the future lol
@@AutoAutopsy hmm maybe make a vid on this please? Lol maybe just cruising through all the settings n what not
Can you still adjust treble and bass without screen? Thats all i would need. I have icm2 stock and an icm3 i found in great condition at junkyard for dirt cheap lol definitely worth the trouble of memorizing sound adjustments
On this subject, you could install an equaliser app to control bass and treble digitally, it's not the same but is effective. It's the fade and balance that you will have to do blind if you want to change
@@SaabUnleashed cool, what app?
Great video! I have a 2005 9-3 arc convertible and the radio and sound stopped working (unit still has lights) from what I have read it might be the amp? (Checked fuses already) I have no idea where it is in the convertible - any help would be much appreciated- not a lot of help for Saab here in Canada :(
that would be my guess too; in sedans they are under the seat, not sure about convertibles
Teller at the bank: "You need to replace your bank card again? You work on SAAB's....don't you."
:((
@@AutoAutopsy Oh, I meant she was replacing it because it was boogered-up from using it to remove dashboard air vents. Many of my cards have telltale signs I've used them for that on several of my saabs. XD
So I shouldn't be afraid of buying a 9-3 with the radio not working? I am looking at one for my son's first car and it's a 2003 and I was afraid I would need a tech-2 if I replaced the radio... it has an icm2 currently. I would probably just be putting another icm2 back in it.
if you just put another ICM2 in it and the ICM is the issue, it'll be super simple and you won't need a tech2
Joe, how old is your son? Wouldn't recommend a 93 especially the fibre optic model, if younger than 23, the insurance will probably be higher than most 1.4 liter ford's and vauxhalls. He will need a lot of patience and a tech 2 to keep it in good condition.
My Saab 93 2005 not turn on for the key not recognizing and the immobilizer is bad work
you;'d need to scan with a tech2
Why would you want to change the climate unit back to Fahrenheit? ;D
Thanks for the interesting videos
Those of us around in the 70s were told we were moving into the metric system. Other than some conversions in parentheses, the only mention of it in society is cars, motorcycles, and tools.
oof
Does the icm1 have same connection? I just got 05 saab 9-3 linear so I have no screen on radio. Id even do a icm 2 if I could??
yes, they have the same connections
How much is a tech 2?
Around 2-$300
I have a 04 linear and have 02 aero
cool.
@@AutoAutopsy I watch your video to I'm Saab guy. I figured out how to fix cupholder without trip to yard. You video s are cool too
Love your blue car I want it , got pic of my favorite but csn send here
We should chat called guy about marrying key. He said he talks to you
What forum you o
I only wath u because my dad had a 2007 saab twin turbo then he sold it because the gearbox got destroyed and he couldn't find any parts for it
you know of anyone selling a icm3 to replace my icm2
eBay or facebook would be the best bet
El mio no tiene pantalla, si lo cambio por uno con pantalla solo es quitar uno y poner el otro, o he de hacer algo mas
As stated, you need to marry it with a tech2.
@@AutoAutopsy esto me lo pueden hacer en cualquier taller?
Hello guys, maybe somebody can help me.Im interested to buy 2007(only interior redesing) Saab 9-3 Vagon, with 1.9 TID engine with 150 hp, and with automatic gearbox.Because i dont have a lot info about car, only service history(in let's say it biggest Saab mechanic shop in my region of Europe), owner is not here. His mom wont let me drive car to test it with out she, and she is scared of high speeds so i can't find out how many gears it have in that way.Only thing which i see are paddle shifters, does only 6-speed automatic gearbox have it or 5-speed automatic geerbox have it also.I went to see 5-speed models and they dont have paddle shifters.I really wont to know if it is 6-speed or 5-speed i heard that 6-speed is better and reliable then 5-speed, i have that 6-speed Aisin AF40-6 in my Alfa Romeo 159, and for now and from other people i heard only best for that transmission. Thanks for help :D
you need to test drive a car before you buy it; that lady needs to take some melatonin and let you drive her car to see if its what you want!
Wish I had one.... ICM3 here are like 300-400dollars.... and in bad condition. With the buttons chipped off.
Yeah it’s a shame they’re so hard to find
why would you change to farenheigt? Its a fucking stupid system ( as all of the mesurments in usa)
Who is “farenheigt” and why are you mad at them?
@@AutoAutopsy sorry for the spelling :P I meant fahrenheit. And im not mad, it is just so strange that you dont use the SI-system that we uses here in Sweden (and most of the world). A system that actually makes sense.

Thanx for the nice SAAB videos! I myself own a 9-3 Aero XWD V6 2.8 2008
And a 9-3 Aero 2.0 - 2002. Im working on converting it to a 2.3 T5/T7 (9000 enging block). Some kind of homebuilt "Viggen".
