- Lake Mead is DRY AS A BONE! (Let's Explore). Walking on dry lake bed that used to be 175 feet underwater (too deep to scuba dive) is an eerily beautiful feeling. We found some interesting things today. Thanks to Joyce for sending the picture from 1983! Watch out for Day 2, it's even crazier once we got on the boat to explore more shores!

Day 2 is being edited now and will be out a week from today! Let's see if we can break my LIKE record in 1 week, which is 8K likes. See you on DAY 2! (IT GETS PRETTY CRAZY)
Can’t wait to see day 2
It is NOT a pyrite. Rather a Mica.
PLEASE bring your metaldetector out there. That's be crazy
Seeing this makes me so sad. Spent many a day there as a kid in the 70’s.
Hey guys, someone is scamming you! I got a reply saying to text a number to win a machine! Please checkin it!👍😁🔴⚪🔵Happt 4th
Tip: When in the desert, don’t stick your fingers in a crack between rocks. Never know what might be living there (scorpion, rattlesnake, etc.) Thanks for the adventure!!
LOl!
Unless your stupid 🤪
YOLO!
No fear.
The things is there is no scorpions in Colorado that I have seen but yes there are rattlers way I’m the mountains
That gold rock you found might actually be biotite mica. The mica is very flakey and can be found in gold colors. Pyrite would be more crystalline, it would look cubic, like little squares.
I was looking for this comment. I was going to say the same!
Agree
Was thinking the same thing.
👍, yep.
Yep...pyrite (fool's gold) is chunky...mica is flakey :)
As someone who's lived in Las Vegas for 24 years, it's crazy to see the lake change so much. Its dried so much that the old sunken Mormon settlement is visible now and a couple of bodies have been found.
Sad and shouldn't be taken lightly. All the wildlife gone that lived in Lake Meade, animals that used that lake to hunt from and survive. Very sad and disturbing.
@@Sharky142 a
@Rosie?????
@@Sharky142
They’ll be fine. Lake mead isn’t even 100 years old. Its not even supposed to be there. (It’s basically a giant puddle.)
The wildlife has been in that area since time immemorial. They’ll simply move somewhere else or easily adapt back to the way things were before the dam was built. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@alitlweird I thought it was older. The lake. Thank you for the information. Do you think that water will ever fill the lake again?
It's refreshing to see a channel of this genre that's genuine
I love when you talk with locals in the area you're searching. They always have such interesting things to add to the history of the area. This person you met was especially wonderful 😊 the picture was cool
Dallas, this was a one of my most favorite adventures. Thanks for bringing me along. Can't wait for the next adventure. The video turned out amazing!!
Thanks again for adventuring with me there, and your amazing camera work!
@@ManPlusRiver that ild coke bottle os for the 1890 to the 1920s most likely
i'm so sad to see that lake empty. i was there in 1992 for holidays, and it was not so low. not enough rain and huma activities have ruined nature. greatings from a french subscriber
Yeah it's super sad. Thanks for watching!
It is a man made reservoir. Nothing about it is natural hence the reason it is drying up.
the government sold the water rights to Nestlé! they are RE-ROUTING the Colorado River so the basins don't fill up. This has NOTHING to do with "evaporation" or "over crowding" - at all!
The government has planned this drought for many years plus has planned all the food processing plants to be burned down as well, the governments around the world are planning a world wide famine, water will be much more expensive than gold!
@@tufalike1796 like everywhere in the world. And when people are thirsthy, they sell them bottled drinks at high prices. Full of sugar, and ont healthy ah all.
They made it in France, they bought spring water sources.
Nature? Forgive me if im wrong buts a manmade lake
Man if you had a metal detector for that dried lake bed
That woulda been dope
Lived in Vegas in early 70’s, we went to lake mead all the time. Oldest child was the last baby born at the old Boulder City hospital
That lake going dry has only about 10% to do with drought the other 90% is from rapid growth of the city's it supplies water too.
Well kinda, but 90% of that water goes to agriculture. Residential uses surprisingly little water
@@schizomode Really? Do you have a source for that. Genuinely interested as I live in Phoenix and concerned about what things will be like in 10 years
@@HIPSI808 Lake Mead will be gone long before 10 years. You'd better be ahead of the game.
@@FeR-kt1jt Lake Mead is man-made. Not so concerned about that as Nevada is just brutal.
@@HIPSI808 you should be , that’s where your water comes from
ever since i seen that this lake was going down my first thought was i bet you could walk and find some cool treasure, im glad you made this video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
As a lifelong Las Vegas resident, thank you so much for properly pronouncing Nevada. Also, gotta come back out to Lake Mead and look for barrel bodies
Ne-vah-duh
25 years there before, living in Texas now so it's always nice to here.
The coke bottle is late 70s 78 79 ,I used to find the no return one white ones as a kid and looked it up in a book ,the first one I found was deep in scrub oak and took me a long time to get ....6th graders do strange things
That picture from 1983 wow. Joyce rules.
i always appreciate when you pick up trash and dispose of it properly
That's so awesome that she sent thet pic to you! I've only been to Lake Mead once, bc I've lived most of my life in PA...so it's really cool to see older pics of the lake!
As interesting as this is, it's actually kind of sad just how much trash we leave behind :(
Imagine whats in the unexplored ocean
We? Lol no. Theres no we. It's "them". I don't leave trash

Metal detecting that area would be amazing fun.
I live in Boulder City next to Lake mead it’s crazy to watch the lake disappear. Use to be a beautiful scene as you drove down to lake. We are running out of water.
"Someone shooting skeet out here" means something totally different to me.
Wow! Colorado has been in a drought for years as well. Amazing. Thanks.
Those rocks were large mouth bass fishing heaven, when the water was up above it.
I was just showing my mom your channel and telling her about Lake Mead when she asked me if I wanted some baklava. We were eating it when you found the pyrite and said have any of you ever had baklava? Wth? We both whipped our heads and looked at eachother! Lol so random. going to buy a lotto ticket now.
All I kept thinking is that you were gonna get got by a scorpion or a rattlesnake when you stuck your hands by that little cave. LOL I left Vegas in 2002 after living there for 14 years and I can't believe how bad the lake is now. Breaks my heart.
You're turning into a regular archeologists, Dallas! Fun stuff! I always enjoy your videos.
I’m so enjoying seeing you young guys looking around and finding little pieces of history.
no one ever talked about the half million in gold that was dumped overboard decades ago. Irretrievable because it was so deep. Let the hunt begin...
Sauce? 🧐
It's by the big W.
thats pretty cool what ya can find in a dry lake but also scary at same time that it is so dry.
Since this video aired, Lake Mead has risen by a Foot!! They have cut outflow by 50%.
This is really neat I'd love to see more with your metal detector
Thank you! Sadly metal detectors are prohibited there, since it's in a national park!
@@ManPlusRiver That's stupid! I can see them not wanting you to dig in a National Park but you're in a dry up lake bed.
Now would be a really great time for the state to come out and clear all the old sunken boats etc
Awesome video Dallas. Thank you for sharing and especially sharing history. Just craziness.
I remember seeing the lake and Hoover dam over flowing around 2005ish.
One of your coolest videos yet! Btw, I believe that is mica, not pyrite, which is why it is so flaky. Can’t wait for the video of Day 2! Always love watching your videos.
Thank you for joining on the adventure, and for your kind words! Interesting, I'll have to double check on that! :)
You are right! Its Mica!
I used to find Mica everywhere when I was a kid. It fascinated me. I haven't seen a single piece in over 50 years now. I often wonder why.
My mother used to take me there to swim. So sad to see it this way
You should explore more. I’ve heard that there were bodies found when the lake receded. You could help with recovery.
This reminds me of the movie holes and the book holes. Thank you for the great video.
I think your bottle is from the mid to late seventies. I used to collect bigger bottles walking down I-35 and turn them in for candy money.
Hello, the lake is drying out because the water cycle in the west is being and has been wrecked through land degeneration, and land degeneration happens because we removed the mega herds of millions of bison which kept the land healthy.
The only way we can start to replenish the water resources in the west and other places that are desertifying around the world, is if we start to mimic these herds and provide the services that they used to provide, using the tool of livestock managed in a certain way.
It would be honorable of you to use your popularity to help spread this message and get some serious action going.
The lady you met, now she was a TREASURE🤗
Incredible video Dallas. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for cleaning it up. You all are so good.
I wonder if anyone has been watching these Lake Mead exploring vids in hopes their old sunken boat will show up. Lol
Ohhh Yeahhhhh!!!!
Best regards from Spain my friend!!!

Old people have always a interesting story. I create my own view of how it may be happened.
Such an awesome video Dallas can't wait for the day 2 video.
Thanks Mark, it was fun chatting with you in the premiere! See you on Day 2!!
That 1983 picture reference was cool.
Time to let Vegas dry up and lake mead survive. 😆
The Cook’s wrapper is newer. Nutrition Facts are a result of food industry changes in the 90’s.
Good eye!
We noticed that as well.
I was afraid there was someone IN the bag! 😳😂
Reminds me of camp green lake! Can’t wait for part 2!
Diggin them holes !
Great video. Thank you for creating it. The flaky rock is called "Mica". A type of silicate mineral whose outstanding physical characteristic is that individual mica crystals can easily be split into extremely thin elastic plates.
The old woodstove we had growing up, had Mica in the little square windows.
The old woodstove we had growing up, had Mica in the little square windows.
Whst a great lady telling you what it’s like in 1983.
This is a really cool video to watch, thanks for your work!! That stone that you have found in the canyon I think it's probably mica, not pyrite. Mica came from ancient Latin, the origin of the word it's not completely clear, could be for the word micare (to shine) or for the word mica (Crumb, because it crumbles easily). Those are both characteristics of this stone, wich is composed by layers of shiny phyllosilicates. While the pyrite is not composed in layers, it's heavier and more difficult to break
I'm only a couple of years into my geology program, but I agree, it is most definitely a mica of some kind! :)
That's correct.
had a great time with you today Dallas
Thank you for joining! Looking forward to seeing you on Day 2!
In the early 1990s, I drove across Hoover dam.. the water was almost at the top of the dam..
Our govt leaders are not telling us that this water shortage is a really serious problem.
Our current leaders ARE telling us & doing their best to get alternative energy but are meeting resistance because there's too much investment in the resources that contribute to this situation. Wake up people!
No. Nevads would panic. Even though they are a very rich state. You cant buy rain.
had a great time with you today
craziness! It is amazing. 💕👵
Drought....right. biggest issue is over use. 130 trillion inflow 135 trillion taken.
Creepy yet oddly satisfying. Nice
Very enjoyable... I guess one would need to bring a shovel for this one!
@RJ32 is over 100k subs now. Congratulations RJ
Y'all did it! Thank you for supporting RJ!
Live really close all my life..learned to scuba at Mead..
Liked your video! Lived in Az. and made trips to the lake in 60's/70's...when I had the funds!
Some nice finds enjoyed watching
I've lost a few things in Mead over the years, especially in the 80s and 90s. Maybe you will find some keys I once lost.
Oh yeah!!! St. Thomas Ghost Town should be exposed! Lake Mead covered it.
It’s scary, but amazing, to see how low the water has dropped. I subbed to RJ, and he has reached 100K! 😁
Man, your weight loss is great. I bet you feel loads better. Well done.
Thank you Brett, yeah I feel so much better, except now I have to wear a wetsuit cause I get cold in cold water!
Hola soy de República Dominicana me encant a tus video
Fascinating , and sad at the same time...
Where is Archaeology Creek in Texas? It was a house full of artifacts wiped out by a flood full of Medieval, Roman, and other artifacts. I saw someone fishing found some Roman coins and a toilet...lol The water is clear is all I know. That is not the actual name of the creek just a nickname. I was a kid when I heard about it.
I wanna find this now
@@austinguy2390 Some guy at Chang's Flea Market down in Houston had some coins from the creek. He said the whole house is in it, the water heater and toilet were still near the original spot. All I know is while he was fishing the water was clear enough to see the coins and other stuff, but I can't remember what he said. I assume it was in the hill country or west Texas.
Every youtuber in the world should go to lake mead and make the same exact video over and over and over.
Beautiful ❤️
Hi, Dallas. I'd heard about Lake Mead being low, but seeing it is just mind blowing. I guess the govt will have it's own people metal detect the whole area later. Thanks for taking us along with you and RJ. Looking forward to Part 2. Stay healthy and safe 👍🏽 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
“The rain, something out of our control” lmao okay
Finally someone who explores this place, too bad I cant go lol.
Very interesting
