I am an American, a baby boomer born just after WW II and I’ve heard stories of bravery not just of the Americans but of every nation struggling to liberate German invaded European countries. So I have such a deep emotional respect for this kind of celebration for honoring those in the past who showed bravery in any conflict on home soils or far away. I can see that if I was a soldier at Edinburg Castle standing for my country and physically and spiritually exhausted the bagpipes and drums would stir in me an energy and spirit to do what honored warriors of the past were inspired to do by sounds like this. August 2025 we are doing a cruise and will be in a position to see this wonderful thing. I hope we can get tickets to the event so that I can come back to America and live my life being deeply touched by this event honoring such bravery and sacrifice. I don’t know why, but bagpipe music makes me cry….probably because the most stirring pipe music I have heard performed in America has been at funerals with a bagpipe playing Amazing Grace.
As a former Territorial soldier who served in 156 North West Transport Regiment RCT the hairs on the back of my neck stand up remembering marching back to barracks behind pipers from 154 Scottish Transport Regiment to the Black Bear while training at Central RCT Depot at Grantham

It’s 1746 your an English soldier at the battle of culloden it’s 5.10 am on a damp cold winter’s morning you’ve been up all night in battle and seen some 100s of Scot’s slain just when you think it’s coming to an end you hear the distinct sound of the pipes and drums descending on the horizon and you say to yourself Jesus Christ they won’t give up
All the scurrying photographers in the midst of the band and the small stadium area they had to work in detracted somewhat from the enjoyment of the performance, but the music was outstanding and well played. Not that one would expect anything else from these folks. Professionals all the way. Well done! Bravo!
What a buzz . I went many years ago and cried all the way threw .what a feeling and when the walked well .I nearly passed out thank you guys it’s bloody brilliant x
I've got tears in my eyes just watching it. 😂 I'm contemplating going to the tattoo this year for the first time ever but I don't wanna be that saddo crying in the crowd. 😂🤦♀️ Although if you cried I'm guessing others do too? Why do Bagpipes have this effect on me. ❤
It did during the world wars. Many a time the German soldiers would hear the drone of the pipes then the fear would set in. Many of the nazi’s would run as they thought how can we fight an enemy that wear kilts in the winter.
I agree, but it is only on that particular night, evidently it's a preview/press performance, they won't be there on any other show. I was in Edinburgh for seven years with the Army and it was only after years of leaving that I went back to see the Tattoo, we had many performers practicing in our barracks so most days got some sort of free show, brilliant stuff.
@@demurphy9002 Many thanks for the information, very much appreciated,i served in the RAF at Bomber Command for 8 years enjoyed every minute of it,it was during the 1950s.
Imagine being a little Englishman on the front line and these big hairy Scot’s come marching behind you, wow imagine the belief they’d give you, let’s fight!
@@robnewman6101 Scotland. It IS a country in its own right, you know, and was a country before England was united. Scotland also has one of the oldest national flags in the world. Denmark has the oldest, then Scotland.
@@AV-fo5de I like that you brought it up. Scotland has the oldest monarchy in Europe, is the second-oldest country in Europe, is the fifth oldest country in the world, is party to the oldest Alliance in the world (Scotland - France 1294), and I would wager has the oldest national flag since I think when king Aengus saw the two intersecting-lines cross in the sky at the battle against the Northumbrians
I also filmed this video and after 3 weeks, it is copyright strike. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo Office is requesting youtube to take it down. Very unfair
Edinburgh tattoo is about our British forces and all our friends from around the world I was and I think this year it was far too Scottish. I hope next year we have more about our military. And our friends from around the world 🌎
It is a SCOTTISH tradition and is held in Scotland's capital city. The Edinburgh Tattoo is famed for including military and civilian groups from all countries, but it remains quintessentially Scottish! You don't like that? Well, petition your own Government to have a tattoo on their own patch. Too Scottish? Oh that'll be like the Oktoberfest being too German?
What a great display of Scotland finest stretcher bearers, you should be proud that you went bandie instead of finishing your combat course so you can bang a drum, or blow a whistle, without you, the forward moving troops would stop.
Why so many camera people, they get in the way. Don't need that many. I cannot watch this as the cameramen are annoying. I will watch the older shows before these people were allowed on the parade ground. I must hit the dilike button. Such a shame.
Scotland the brave freeeeeeedom .I wish we had split from the UK hundreds of years ago you know when I country has so much potential but the other one is holding you back that's what's happened to Scotland 100%
so scary and brave... where's your independence huh, Scotland?? dependence on the British, the oppression of the Scots for centuries must come to an end!
The majority want Independence, but when an agreement is made to NOT interfere in a referendum, and that agreement is completely ignored, then you see how a country can be held back against the will of the people. Next time, there should be independent adjudicators like the UN, or another European country!

Nothing like "Scotland the Brave" followed by "the Black Bear" to lift your spirits on return to barracks.
Well done all! From Orlando, Florida.
And Ohio ❤
Would Scotland be Scotland without their pipes and drums? They are more than memorable. They are incredible. And much loved.
No it wouldn't
Definetly wouldn't be good auld Scotland without the pipes & drums (I'm scottish & love hearing them)

Except there were more Scots fighting for Cumberland that day at Culloden than there were fighting for Charles Edward Stuart
We Never surrender
Then you realise you also have the Scottish fighting on your side playing the bagpipes as well
Then you realize most of the highlanders didn’t show up for the battle…
……. And still won.
Damn! Nothing stirs the blood like the Black Bear and Scotland the Brave.
Anyone who visits scotland leaves a part of their heart behind in this beautiful, majestic and rugged country! I cannot wait to go back :D
Being part Scottish I would like yo go thete to see all its beauty

My brother saw the tattoo 10 years ago during the fringe festival. He still remembers the feeling of all the drums hitting in person

I walked past the castle at this point one night last month. Eyes just automatically filled with joyful, proud-to-be-Scottish tears.
Went for the first time this yr,,, so in awe,,, the music,, the atmosphere,, I am English, but I left my soul in Scotland,,
Haste Ye Back!
Makes me so happy just to watch them. Thank you via You Tube as I can no longer visit The Tattoo in person any longer
This gives me chills, and I’m not even close to being Scottish

Massed pipes and drums is amazing. I also want to say the uniforms are beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
So many people underestimate the power of heritage.
I freaking love Scotland. You were there at The Alamo. Signed, A Texan
Going on 26th - can't wait - the sound of the pipes makes me proud to be Scottish.
I went to Edinburgh in 2018 with my girlfriend end i left my hearth in your beautiful country. Cheers from Italy!
Thank you! You are most welcome!
try one of our haggis pizzas, see if they're upto italian standards 😂
Its a dream to go to scotland ❤
...for me as well. The highlands are calling me. I am Texan of Mexican heritage but Scotland and her history has always tugged at my heart.
Un grand merci pour ce très bon moment, c'était juste fabuleux 🙏

Awesome! I have always loved Scotland the Brave with bag pipes and full Scottish Dress is beautiful! They have a proud military history!
Thank you for sharing and haste ye back!
My favourite the mass pipes and drums and they did not disappoint! Great evening at the Tattoo and I can understand why Scots are proud.
Absolutely thrilling!!

Agree & the hand clappers . I like to hear the band . It’s like the rookie uk passengers on aircraft that clap when it lands. Embarrassing.

Great to see them at it again. Who is the woman in the red coat playing the bagpipes @ 2:45 ?
She's also member of The Electro Bagpipe rave band.
Who cannot love the Scotts. They're that friend who has a subtle way of telling your enemies to get ********.

Absolutely not. Scotland the Brave is for the country and her people, nothing to do with the royal family.
Happy Platinum Jubilee to Her Majesty The Queen. 70 Years on the Throne. 1952-2022.

Get those cameramen out of the way. Ruining it. Shame on them.
The pipers and the highland dancers saved the show from being a total disaster, for it was crap, the worst ever.
Are photographers paid to ruin the show ???
This is a rehearsal so half price , it happens every year Ian , just in case ye didnae ken that .
When are the Scots going to harmonize Scotland the Brave? The song starts out great, then leads to a musical dead end.
One day soon the Scot flag will fly over this fort and bagpipes will sing for Scotland not England.
Playing Scotland the Brave I don't think Ingerland is included!!!
The bagpipes play for Scotland and United Kingdom.
Well said. It's a Castle though, not a fort.
