Great review! Just ordered mine covered in Snakeskin. Just wanted to point out an inaccuracy in describing its features. It doesn’t have an internal speaker load. When using the XLR to run direct it actually bypasses the power section and used IR’s and doesn’t utilize a load.

Can you come out of the head via the XLR output into a power amp? If so, two questions: 1) The manual says the master must be turned off if not connected to a speaker cab via speaker cab outputs. Does taking the master out affect the tone of the individual channels? 2) Must one use an IR if coming out via XLR into power amp? (My questions are based on the assumption that a 20 watt amp might not be able to hang with a hard rock or metal drummer). Thanks!

Hi my friend. I didn’t try through a power amp but did a little testing of going direct without a cab ir. There is a bypass for the cab IR so you can just direct out the sounds without cab IRs. I turned up the master knob and it didn’t really change the sound so your getting the clean front end of the amp even with the master turned down. Though I will say this little beast can move some air for 20 watts. I was impressed with how loud it actually gets but I could see with the right drummer needing to juice it a little more ;)

One other suggestion I’d make is if you are going to do that make sure to tape down that master knob so it doesn’t actually get knocked around on stage and hurt your amp or the sound guy come along and try to turn up your amp not thinking ;)

Unrelated to the Soldano, but what is that flat - front amp head just behind you?

When switching to the IR is the sound we are hearing coming from studio monitors?

Hi my friend. That IR sound is direct into the interface and then a direct feed from the interface to my camera so no mics or anything. Just straight into the camera.
