Lyrics:
When the sky is falling and you're looking round for somewhere to hide
Did you ever call out to someone
Did you ever call out to me, I've never been gone-
I've been right here by your side
There ain't nothin' but clouds
There ain't nothin' but clouds in your eyes
To the pounding, pounding of our desperate hearts
Nothing could have torn us apart
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all - Hudba
Thanks for checking this video out 💜 The male vocals are by Todd Rundgren - he was busy on tour when we filmed the video, so Hywel Bennett stepped in to mime the male part.
one of the greatest duets of modern times! i thought he just looked unusually proper ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I gotta say, I am a male listening to judas priest and the like, but you have a really expressive strong voice. thank you for your work, I enjoy it.
my favourite record of all time steinman wrote some amazing and great epics but this wow it will never be beaten bonnie i played this every friday and saturday night at a night club in bristol where i was a dj in the eighties i still cant get enough of it
Bonnie: unique and irreplaceable!
The voice...the eyes...all this beauty... It could have been anything you wanted in life.
I’m 50. Bonnie, Thanks for the amazing voice, THE BEST DUETS of all times .....
One of the most unknown and underrated greatest songs ever and will always be one of my favourites and continue to listen to.
Unknown? One of the top 3 of that lady and famous lady she is in her prime.
Over in the UK it didn't even make the top 40 and I as a keen Bonnie Tyler Jim Steinman fan never even knew it existed until I bought Secret Dreams Forbidden Fire album.
It hitting the charts and it being unknown are not the same thing.
@@Dermacrosis I wrote this comment a long time ago. Despite it not getting in the Charts and because the direction music has gone in since 2000, no many in the UK know of the song. I would say that you have to be 'really' interested in your music to just even come across it. Therefore the likelihood of anyone who was born post-1990 who would listen to Bonnie Tyler now must be extremely marginal. However, it's different for those who were born Post-1970. Sadly songs are just 'forgotten about'.
Totally agree!
One of the most under rated song Jim Steinman ever wrote, It was a belter of a power ballad that not enough people heard
The title wasn't THAT captivating😉
One of the grestest female singer of all time
Absolutely agree. She's my second favourite only topped by the American country music legend, Reba McEntire
I will never, never, EVER get tired of this song... Simply wonderful.
Numero 1
For those who love big drama it is...
I listen to it every morning :)
Neither do I
rip jim steinman
If you didn't live in the 80:s, you can't even begin to understand how perfect her hair was. :-)
I didn't but her hair is serious goals!
its her eyes that get me, always have, always will! and shes TWICE my age!
Joe Blow if you didn't live in the 80s I feel sorry for you.
@@scienz ARE YOU BLIND SHE IS GORGEOUS
Joe Blow I love her hair. As a kid of the 80’s my ideal woman still had that hair. 😎
Gosh you’d never ever get sick of her voice, just timeless! And who the hell writes lyrics like this anymore? I miss videos like this too.
You are so right
Phenomenal. Period. I'm obsessed with Jim Steinman's songwriting/compositions anyway, but honestly this is one of his most masterful pieces of art that should have received accolades and awards and been overplayed like Total Eclipse of the Heart! I LOVE THIS SONG.
Nobody makes videos like this anymore. One of the all times best.
My thought exactly..
One of my favorite songs of all time! Love your vocals and Todd's. Greetings from Colombia Bonnie! Jim Steinman left us incredible compositions!
Two powerful voices, united by the most relevant composer of my life.
Your subtle comment made me suspect JS may have passed and so I checked... yes, he did.
@@PianoGesang I just found out yesterday, and I'm still binge-ing.
This shud have been a big hit..
She's one of the greatest singers of all time.
This song should have been a Number 1
will be now meat loaf has recorded it
+brian higgs i donde think so
It was in FRANCE
For me too.

RIP Jim Steinman, a true legend
IMO Jim Steinman is probably the greatest songwriter who ever lived.
Agreed
Easily
Very close to truth
For this kind of stuff nobody even came close
Maybe… “‘There Were Times We Had It All” …? Title Is Not. Attractive… But Great Song…
This song is the story of a relationship, the good times, the bad times, the happy moments, the struggle, the achievements. I discovered this song yesterday, and it made me cry, and rock me to the core; it made me love my wife more, my children, my life, and it made me love your work even more.
God bless you.
Everything about this video is great. The music, the stage setting, the fact that we are desperately trying to understand the lyrics. The 1980s - take me back in a time machine. Please God.
The fact we are trying to understand the lyrics! ,😂😂 So true
agree. the only problem is the shortened edit of the song. i hate the fact that people’s attention span is low, so publishers feel the need to shorten the songs for the wider audience masses into a short ‘single version’ making the song a crippled version of the original masterpiece
Lol @ desperately trying to understand the lyrics. Hey, I guess you gotta go through it. 😂
@@sinajakelic Agreed ;)
This video is like modern opera to me....Powerful and music definitely one of the best from Tyler
Amo essa cantorra
A true masterpiece that still speaks to the heart...
RIP Jim Steinman - you wrote so many wonderful songs
One of the best ballads of all time, Bennett is full of charisma and Bonnie is godlike as ever:)
This is not only a fantastic piece of work, awesome music and lyrics, perfectly sung. This is one of the best duet songs in pop history and a music video like a small movie too. Just amazing!!
32 years later, here I am...a 20 yr old in pure love with Bonnie Tyler and this song (and her hair)
I agree those were days h n year
Now?? I'm 56 was lessoning TO her when I was in my late teens. Catch up there young one. At least you know good music when you hear it
Age means nothing, if you like it listen to it to hell with what others around you think
Wonderful to see 60's actor Hywel Bennet again . Loved him in the family way .
Can’t believe I’d forgotten this awesome track. RIP Jim 😢
One of the few artists that can sing right into your soul. That eye contact. Good lord. She's mesmerizing. And still is. !
Keep coming back here; the best duet ever...
Loved Bonnie since 'Total Eclipse'...
Remember when music had soul?
I sure do. Songs any from the heart with real power and passion. Not to one the record companies pockets
The best duet of all time.
I’m 16 and I just discovered this while playing one of my dad’s old records😊
will love it forever
Your Dad has great taste
I must admit this song still sing to me in some parts. "If your fears could only be forgotten" still hits me.
and "You're the only one who's left who's gonna believe all your lies"
When the sky is falling and you're looking round for somewhere to hide
Did you ever call out to someone, did you ever call out to me
I've never been gone, I've been right here by your side
There ain't nothin' but clouds, there ain't nothin' but clouds in your eyes
Why don't you believe it when you finally found the truth
You've been drinking poison water from the fountain of youth
Why don't you stop tearing up everyone you need the most
You're so busy trying to get even, you never even try to get close
I can't explain it away, it doesn't make any sense
To know what it's like, I guess you gotta go through it
I guess you gotta go through it, I guess you gotta go through it
It doesn't matter, baby
Loving you's a dirty job
But somebody's gotta do it
There were times when we'd never fake it
There were times when we'd always make it
There were times when we'd take it to the limit
And we'd never, never, ever leave each other alone
We were flesh and blood and bone
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
There were times when we took our chances
There were times when we were damn good dancers
There were times when we heard all the answers
In the beating of the drummer and the riches of the rock and the roll
I can see right through your soul
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
If your fears could only be forgotten, we could pull all of the barriers down
Would you follow your dreams' desire
Would you follow your secret dreams and forbidden fire
Let's just peel out of this town
It's been nothing but dreams
It's been nothing but dreams until now
You're never gonna see it
You got your head stuck in the sand
It's the land of the free and easy Street
It's the home of the damned
You're never gonna see it
You better open up your eyes
You're the only one who's left
Who's gonna believe all your lies
I can't explain it away, it doesn't make any sense
To know what it's like, I guess you gotta go through it
I guess you gotta go through it, I guess you gotta go through it
It doesn't matter, baby
Loving you's a dirty job
But somebody's gotta do it
There were times when we fought like tigers
There were times we were damn good liars
There were times we extinguished every fire
That was burning, burning, burning up each other alive
From the heavens on down to the dives
There were times we lost it all
There were times we lost it all
There were times when we fought like tigers
There were times we were damn good liars
There were times when our bodies glistened
There were times that we can't stop missing
There were times that we'd lay in bed and listen to the pounding
Pounding chorus of our desperate hearts
Nothing could have torn us apart
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all (it's a dirty job)
(Loving you, baby, somebody's gotta do it)
I COULD LISTEN TO HER ALL DAY SHE IS BRILLIANT AND SO IS THIS SONG
My husband and I danced to this song almost 37 years ago when we first met 💝 It was exactly 16th March 1986. The day after tomorrow will be his 60th birthday.
Thanks to CZcams we are still able not only to watch and listen to the great talent that is Bonnie Tyler but to enjoy this beautiful woman with such a unique voice. Have been a Bonnie Tyler fan since the 80's and to be a huge fan of her's and be be able just to sit back and watch and listen to her amazing talent is the great thing about CZcams. What a pleasure it is to be able to go back in time and watch and listen to the great singers/performer's from years gone by.
AMEN TO THAT!!
The best of all time😭
Todd did an amazing job on this song and on the entire album, with his unparalleled vocal work. Thanks, Bonnie. Your vocals weren't bad, either. 😉
power of her voice.......10000000000000000000

Queen of Rock
Согласна на все сто!
Great Bonnie i love you.
RIP, Jim Sheridan. You knew how to pen a hit song.
RIP Jim Steinman
took my breath away. Bonnie is Epic!
Such an underrated song.
Sou brasileira e tenho orgulho em fizer que amo a Bonnie!!!! ela é demais canta super bem
I could see a lifetime of tinnitus if you really had the full power of Bonnie Tylers' voice that close to your lug hole. She has one hell of a great voice, got to love her.
I am absolutely blown away by the majesty and beauty of this song! We have all felt the emotions portrayed by this song! Long live Bonnie! A true artist and diva!
A beautiful and emotional voices for a greatest duet ever !!! And thank you lady bonnie for the information about the actor who is miming...he is incredible as well !!!
My wife was just singing this song and reminded me that I used to sing Bonny Tyler's songs to her some twenty years back. I went to CZcams and found it. We absolutely enjoyed it! It never gets old!! Thank you for the music!!!
Jim steinman production probly rip power ballade made to bee a nr 1 it dident but hit the chats
I know it's been a while since anyone commented, but this another time when Bonnie Tyler + Jim Steinman = Incredible, epic music!!
Was there ever a time when that equation *wasn't* true?
How was this not a hit!?!?
Some emotional stuff this!!
I love Bonnie Tyler and this song since the first time I heard it in the 80:s,
Todd Rundgren´s background vocals/arrangement
is pure genius-
Wow, Wow, Wow, Absolutely Awesome............but then Love Bonnie Tyler..
GREAT song! Powerful voices...
Bonnie!!!!❤❤❤👑👑👑Tyler
Jim Steinman is the greatest songwriter ever. Does anybody know of anybody who is even close?
Desmond Child who wrote "If You Were a Woman", Edyth Wayne and Ronald Dunbar who wrote "Band Of Gold" and Child who wrote "Lovers Again" all on the same album.
Then there is John Fogerty who wrote "Have You Ever Seen The Rain", Alan Gruner who wrote "Getting So Excited", Ian Hunter and Eric Bloom who wrote "Going Through The Motions".
There is no one as prolific given how many he wrote songs for but there are many who can come close quality wise.
I agree with Karl Jim gets it purely due to the diversity of artists he has written for either by himself or in collaboration. There can't be many songwriters that have had songs by both Boy George and Meatloaf
Andy Hill.
Amazing duet! Very powerful and great talents the singers especially Bonnie of course.❤
'You're the only one whose left, whose going to believe all your lies" what a line.
Masterpiece Song ..even till now
I love this song
the best song ever.
they dont make music like this anymore...
That's because there is only one Jim Steinman. A closest to Jim is Tobias Sammet with Avantasia.
Listen to Mystery of a Blood Red Rose, it was suppose to be for Meat Loaf.
Sadly, all of today’s music is explicit and sexual. 😒
@@Bigbird108 It's mostly trash these days.
It’s true, and it’s a crying shame.
What amazing song. 🥺🥺💔
it is the end of 2023 and i still love this song, from over 30 years! All recpect to Bonnie Tyler! Thank you for this lovely song!
This has to be one of her most underrated songs. Though "Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fires" was not that well publicised.
You're absolutely right. Marketing was minimal and failed. Real shame, especially having it so easy with the success of Holding out for a Hero. Beauty of an album!
@@MarcByrne Funny thing is nower days it could have been a raging hit. People go on about how great things were back then musically, but forget that the power was with the radio stations and studios and if they decided not to publicise something it failed.
Nowerdays with social media, as much as I dislike that term, iTunes, Google Music, video streaming services etc the fans can get a song, and album, to number one without it even getting near a radio station let alone a record label.
Back then the power lay with the big corporations now it is in our hands where the music we listen to and buy is concerned..
@@Dermacrosis hail Internet 😍
@@lianayo811 Dear god no. The internet is the most toxic environment ever,.
@@Dermacrosis i mean, Because of Internet, many beautiful songs spread known widely.
One of my favourite song in 85....great song from great singer...
Todd's tenor voice goes wonderfully with Tyler's raspy voice. and of course, Hywel Bennet! ❤️❤️❤️
Very nice song, I love Bonnie Tyler songs, great voice for a beautiful singer
I tell you now from the first line I could tell who wrote it 😄🤣. Steinman for heavens sake 🤣. Great songwriter
you have a fantastic voice Bonnie Tyler
One of the best "soft rock" anthems ever!!!
Whoa. Didn't know that was Todd Rundgren singing with Bonnie! Is there anything that man can't do?!
I heard this song about 2-3 times in the 80's and with technology nowdays i can enjoy this song more than a 1000 times.. such a great song. I would pay a fortune to go back in time and live back the 80s and starting with this great great song
May I come with you , please ?
Thank you so much Bonnie for the gift of that song to the world. This helped me to raise up in one of my most difficult times. It is inspiring in good and bad moments, a pleasure to hear your voice with a so nice melody behind.
So Fabulous...¡¡¡
Should have been number 1. Just fantastic.
Emotional. But after 39 years I still get the optimism, spirit ,,.,..w. o ww
One of the best songs ever
She never got enough credit for her music.
Chart topping albums and singles. No credit, really?
such a good song
Brilliant!

One of my FAVORITE songs always!
Love this song and total eclipse of the heart
Great Song
Magnifiquement interprété ! J'adore . Claude

love her voice...music...all this word when people singing like Bonnie...
WHAT A POWER BALLAD!
Thought the "would you follow your secret dreams and forbidden fires, let's just beat (peel?!) out of this town" said "in four minutes flat, let's just beat out of this town"! That's quick lol! Fabulous dramatic poetic lyrics.
No one has mentioned that it's a Todd Rundgren duet, vocally.
However, it isn't Todd singing with her in the video, it's a British Actor who has appeared in many BBC Shows including Eastenders.
@@hanksummers1037 But its Todd voice which is all that matters.
@@hanksummers1037 Interesting. I knew he looked nothing like Todd.
@@hanksummers1037 Yes, Hywel Bennett :-D Didn't do too well with the lip syncing, but the acting was fine :-)
Definitely Todd
1st time I ever heard this song from the very second Bonnie started singing it took hold of me. The narrative in the song is a mantra for life and I get goosebumps EVERY time it reaches its crescendo.
A genuine classic
Bonnie, you are so beautiful and for so many years. I have been listening your song since high school years. Now even my son graduated from high school.
Perfection.
