Beyond cool. I've never seen anyone take accurate modeling at this scale seriously, so it is AMAZING to see such a fantastic engine of this size! Must be a blast to be part of the crew!
@user-xd1gt9if2v 1970? No, since the beginning of steam! Prototypes for new steam loco designs were often built in miniature first. Enthusiasts have been building smaller versions of steam loco's since adequate engineering equipment became available to ordinary people.
Way to go guys. Alex looks like he is right at home in the cab. Darrell looks like he is using his ears and eyes searching for any corrections to be made while moving on the test track.
That's fascinating, at this point, this is a real working locomotive in every sense, it can pull passenger cars and do real work, and with that wheel arrangement it probably has a LOT of torque!
Brilliant! On my railfan trip (from UK) to California in 2008 I saw the full-size 4-12-2 at Pomona. And Big Boy 4014 was in the same yard! One of the great days. Many thanks.
As you know, 4014 has since been moved, rebuilt and is now who knows where. It's running around loose. That machine is a monster, I played around it for years at Pomona, every time the fair was on.
@@oldfarthacks I remember as a kid they let me climb in through the stoker's hatch and stand inside the firebox on the grates in there. It was incredibly cool.
I watched Big Boy steam through my town and thought it was so cool I went down to union station in kc to catch its arrival. The sound of its whistle in that concrete area as it rolled in was epic! I'm sure there are videos of it on here. 2019 Kansas city. Unforgettable.
This is insane! The amount of time, money, work, skill, knowledge, and teamwork to create such a delicate, yet strong and heavy model is certainly an accomplishment to be proud of! Im very intrigued and have many questions to say the least.
Bloody MASSIVE! Is this the fabled 15" gauge I've only heard in myths and legends? This behemoth certainly lives up to them, that's for sure! I can never look at 7.5" gauge stuff without thinking it's tiny anymore, great work!
im about 5'2 (yes im a grown ass man), bet i could stand up comfortable in that thing with a normal footplate its HUGE congratz on all the hard work paying off your machine is gorgeous
Just found this channel and am now a happy subscriber. This really is just a gorgeous locomotive and her whistle sings like a church choir. What track gauge is it running on?
At first I thought this was a machine that someone could straddle with their legs and ride like a much smaller engine... But when it got closer to the camera and saw a man in the cab I just dropped my jaw and said "F*ck that's bigger than I thought."
There was a man named "Val Brag" just West of Toledo Ohio, that built one thirty years ago, a 4-6-4 if recall. That wouldn't run on coal. He was determined to make it run that way but passed away before that happened. I think it's in a museum somewhere. The club he founded was "The Ohio Live Steamers". It had a lot of track and a lot of members.
I’ve just forwarded this incredible find to my lifelong railroad enthusiast friend. He has 20K in O scale & a basement that needs to be built to accommodate it. I’ve told him to stop fooling around with his bits & pieces, dump all of it & watch this video. I told him it’s time to get serious about model railroading. lol Incredible effort show here.
That's so cool like a 1/2 scale... would be perfect for a rail system on a property of 15 acres or more... they really should have a company to mass produce these (with a steam option)
Beyond cool. I've never seen anyone take accurate modeling at this scale seriously, so it is AMAZING to see such a fantastic engine of this size! Must be a blast to be part of the crew!
Every thing works on it works like the real thing
You should see the engines/locomotives on the Romney hythe and Dymchurch railway. Those fine machines are amazing, travelling many miles a day.
It's not modeling... it's engineering
If your going to go to this length you might as be the real thing. Theyve had small steam trains like this since 1970 in europe

This is awesome! The level of skill and dedication to make something like this is commendable.

There's a CZcams video showing it in Wyoming, being taken out of mothballs from California. Keywords "Big Boy" "Wyoming" oughta find it.@@oldfarthacks
Talk about the WOW Factor. What an amazing project! The workmanship is just beautiful.

That's whistle is gonna sound great outside with some echo effect! Great Job!
Echo effect? What is this a video game?!

Work of art guys, well done ❤
these guys must have a HUGE friggin christmas tree to run this under!
what a work of art, nice job.
DAMN!! Love that whistle on it, VERY nice 🙂🙂
At first i thought it was small due to the angle of the camera but i am ever more impressed by the scale of this thing!
Holy shit that Whistle is perfect got goosebumps!
Absolutely beautiful piece of machinery👍
This lets you see how smooth these engines really are. Thank you.
Absolutely stunning. Good job guys!
Unbelievable, stunning work!

What beautiful whistle sound. Awesome loc too.
As a pipefitter who used to rebuild steam-reducing stations and other components, I always used air to test the performance.
Gentlemen absolutely incredible! What a masterpiece!
WOW! THAT'S INCREDIBLE! Was that engine doing some test runs? That locomotive looks so amazing.
Just found this channel and am now a happy subscriber. This really is just a gorgeous locomotive and her whistle sings like a church choir. What track gauge is it running on?
Thank you and the locomotive is 15inch guage
That is massive amount of work. Fantastic.
Not to be confused with the union pacific 4-12-2 9000
The difference in mechanical design is that it's a two cylinder not a three cylinder.
Absolutely too cool, thank you.
This is one of the coolest things that I’ve seen in my entire life!
Seriously! Love it, good work you guys
Mind Blowing detail. Much respect to the design and build team.
This speaks to my steam train obsessed inner child! What a frikken work of art.
Just a wicked looking piece of kit.
You can’t beat good ol’ machining, nice job y’all! She’s a beauty!
Amazing. That's a big locomotive.
What an incredible thing of beauty.
Looks 1/6 scale. Beautiful locomotive.
15 in gauge is slightly over 1/4 scale.
Absolutely fascinating! Small but still quite powerful!
Those are some big ass trains!!
Such a beautiful engine!
If only I had the money, space, and time to build a small work/tourism line with this scale
Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
That looks amazing.
this things a god damned monster of an engine
Wow, this is next level!
Life doesn't get much better than that!
Phenomenal work!
That is some serious cool guys.
Beautiful.
Wow, very impressive. Nice work.
Looks like you could haul revenue freight with that baby! Absolutely gorgeous!
That has to be the most beautiful horn I’ve ever heard in my life.
Whistle
absolutely beautiful
OMG it’s gorgeous!!
Now that's super craftsmanship, wow.
this loco is amazing.
This things ready to do some real work
Beautifully musical whistle
Very nice, awesome job
I can only imagine the man hours and amount of casting , machining, fabrication of metal to create such a beauty !
If i remember correctly it took around 5 years to make all the parts and put it together
At first I thought this was a machine that someone could straddle with their legs and ride like a much smaller engine... But when it got closer to the camera and saw a man in the cab I just dropped my jaw and said "F*ck that's bigger than I thought."
Honestly thats exactly what I was saying!
Yeah you never think about how far trains stretch over the rails until you see things like this.
The seats are quite comfortable to
WOW !...THAT is a clean machine.

THAT IS SO SWEET❤BEAUTIFUL MACHINE 😮
Awesome Stuff Guys!
Gawd. What an accomplishment!
That is fricking amazing
Holy cow… that is a BIG little train.
I was lucky enough to ride in the cab it was amazing
Wow, fantastic.
That's an awesome mini max loco!
Woah! now THIS is dedication! I don't even know what to say.. thank you CZcams algorithm for showing me this :)
That's amazing, you need more track
These people have skills
That's incredible! You know it's a big model when it has real rod clank!😅
It’s not really a model though
I was gonna say I want to hear that whistle🤣
There’s more smoke coming from the drivers mouth that the loco!! 😂 Nice work
There’s no fire in her
Superbe, magnifique, splendide !!! Quelle chance les mecs
Very cool !! 😎👍
Stunning! What’s the back story with this beauty?

My jaw doesn't hit the floor very often but it just did.
That is E. P. I. C. Never saw any kind of model on THIS scale, and it looks super realistic! I wish i could see it in real life 😢
It’s no model it’s live steam
@@MLIW265-FANlive steam are still models
Will there be an update someday om the 4-12-2? It has been almost two years cince this video.
What an amazing project!
holy mother of marry that is absolutly amazing
This thing is insane! I love it! You guys have way too much talent. Nicely done guys! When will she be ready for the rails?
Ok just Wow! Is this considered 1/2 scale? I mean seriously this is gorgeous! How did you get the drive wheels cast?
At 15 inch gauge it is close 1:4 scale.
Very cool!
Holy fuck dude this is awesome
That's so cool like a 1/2 scale... would be perfect for a rail system on a property of 15 acres or more... they really should have a company to mass produce these (with a steam option)
It is live steam and it was 1.2 million to build
14"-16" gauge is 1/4 scale
Gorgeous. Give the man a .... it's OK, he has one.
WOW BEAUTIFUL
Thats too awesome
A true "Zero Emission Locomotive" - running on air. Only smoke is from the cigar of the engineer...
I clicked this link and had a very brief, immediate, and yet potent existential realization that I'm an engineer and that there is no cure :(
That sound decoder must be huge 😂
Rumor has it there is a 36" speaker in the smoke box!
Keep-Alive and DCC must use 2 car batteries probably for dead spots on the track. 🤣🤣
👏👏👏👏 Espetacular ! Trabalho lindo . 👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
