This is actually so unique, I've never seen an icey snow base tutioral like this, I was a bit lost when aggrellan bad earth was brought in but I get it now!
It’s quite common for icy bases using citadel paints. Quite a few tutorials from other creators use the two and paint over them for an icy feel
Honestly was talking about this with some friends to do for my Space Wolves and then you post this guide. Honestly couldn't have timed it better
Love Adam's voice, it's actually pretty calming! And great effect on the base mate.
i've been doing a lot of snow textures for my guard unit [from a snow death world] and this is perfect
Awesome, my Ultramarines are already based to look like they are fighting on a concrete area that’s been covered in snow (I was inspired by the Iron Wastes region from the Warhammer grand narrative last year and based my entire army so it looked like the Iron Wastes) so adding a few bases like this will help make some models stand out even more.
That is super awesome, I would love ti see more tutorials like this.
Really useful tutorial. Can definitely see some places this will work with models.
Love this! I would love more videos for bases. 👏🏾👏🏾🤩
This chap has a very pleasant voice. Good base tutorial!
General Adam! You are a bold one.
Nice! Thank you very much for the guide! 😃
Great tutorial but very expensive to implement if you have to buy all the colors first.
especially the technique of color for snow...
Take commercially available baking soda, a little water and wood glue. Mix to a nice consistency. a touch of blue, really just a touch, and as soon as it is nice and grainy, spread it on the base.
After drying it gets a great structure. If you add a thin layer of white snow over the layer, the blue shimmers through subtly.
and that with a maximum investment of 4-5 euros. and you get a huge pot of snow out of a baking soda 😉
This is a great video! Thanks for info!
this would have been perfect for my Space Wolves, maybe for the next line of miniatures for the Space Wolves
Hey Warhammer,
Two Questions:
1. Do you need to apply Frostheart to the Aggrellan Badlands Texture Paint or can we just shade it with Pylar Glacier like the Aggrellan Earth? I like the look of the Pylar Glacier more.
2. Do you need to use both Texture Paints or just one to make the bases vary within your army?
Cheers and have a great day!
This actually blew my mind a little! Absolutely amazing results with such an original approach. Very, very cool! Great job Adam and team!
This is perfect for my Space Wolves base.
that will be great for coming Dawi army in old world ! ;]
I really appreciate your tutoral videos of late.
Great video, thanks!
Really cool ❄
Genius! Thanks!
Is this a coincidence since I’ve been looking for icy basing guides for my Field Ordnance Batteries?
*Quietly disengages spy servitor*
Great tutorial!
Excellent tutorial. Quick question should I do this base first and then just glue the miniature on top or should I leave cutouts for the miniatures’ feet?
Frost heart is also great for plasma glow.
If you ever discontinue Valhallan blizzard we'll be having words!
Don't even joke about that.
Fantastic id love to see it with some Blood for the Blood god splattered over it that would be perfect for Khorne Berzerkers!
I like this base a lot! Nice work. But I have one question: how would you paint rocks on that base? Also blue? 🤔
I was literally heading into my local store today, welp adding these to the list 😂
So, how do you do this with a painted model already on it? Or how do you add a model to that?
Very nice ❤
Can you make some technical paints that give more of a crystal effect? Like actually grows small-medium crystals as it dries or something?
Maybe one day - team is always working on new paint formulations.
Can some one please explain how you attach your model if you pre paint the bases? I'm sick of painting around models to get the base done...
Super Glue, which would be most common, but pinning it through a whole in the base would also be an option.
I tend to just glue the model to the base and then prime the miniature and in any color you want the miniature to be and then paint around the feet.
I dont like the floaty look it gets when the models is sticked last to a done base.
I always wonder if the mini will adhere to the base with the texturing or paint being present. I always decorate the base after the model is on the base. It’s a bit cumbersome but it works.
if the base has properly cured it can hold fine, also depends on the weight/size of the model itself. Larger stuff I tend to pin down through the base just to make sure.
I'm thinking of doing this but with purple to get a mystic base
Do we need to do anything special to seal/varnish the valhallan blizzard once the base is done? I worry about it flaking off.
Just from personal experience on my space wolves bases and terrain, I don't seal the valhallan blizzard and I've not had any issues with it flaking off :) I do try to avoid touching it where possible though just to make sure it doesn't
super usefull thanks
perfect for the sons of russ!
This looks absolutely fantastic. I’ll be using this for my World Eaters I think!
Wow I forgot you could paint over different texture paints to change it further!
What is the best way to secure the model to the base after I have done this?
Funny how they never get to that part.
Second comment…this is really nice. I’d love to see it with a couple patches of tall, brown prairie grass. 🤔
Valhallan Blizzard tends to yellow in contact with contrast paints :/
Hello James Workshop. Please teach me how to paint Bullgryns for my 2000pt Bullgryn army, approx. 57 models of Astra Militarum Bullgryns (its viable I swear)
that is a sick army. There's not a dedicated video for them yet, but you could easily adapt these Cadian visa for the big lads: czcams.com/video/7OTCVghoU44/video.html
My version: white scar spray, pylar glacier, then 2 thick coat of ardcoat and top it off with vahalan blizzard.
cool
Why’d you guys do this AFTER I already made my space wolves 😢
Pylar glacier finally getting some use
Shame, it tastes too good
does this mean valhallan ice warriors 😂
no
Very nice but far too many steps for painting an entire army
Day 3 of asking for Fire Lords painting tutorial..
