In my experience, not wearing my durag to sleep only one night was a big set back. Not so much for hair growth, but it caused my braids to get really frizzy from tossing and turning throughout the night.
bro all you have to do was slightly dampen your hair the next morning throw the durag on. let hair marinate for 10 min and remove the rag.....back to looking fresh

Don't say that playa. You sound like one of those young cats, on the news, holding his woman hostage, because she want out the relationship..lol. Real talk, he doesn't have to change his ways, true. However, she doesn't have to get used to it. Who we date, reflects us. Some sistahs aren't seeing themselves, dating a cat with dreads, or twist or locks or whatever they call them. Just like, many guys will stop dating a chic, if she shaved her head to a boyish haircut. She may no longer, be a reflection, of what he desires and that's his right..

It's a game changer.
I am a white mother of a biracial son. He has been growing his hair for years. It’s really long and he loves to wear it in an Afro style. So he stopped wearing his sleep cap and wanted a bonnet so his hair didn’t get “flat”. I recently posted a picture of him and I with our matching bonnets. I was told I was setting him up for failure in the black community. Dragged in the comments. I don’t know why your video popped up in my feed. But I am glad that it did. Thanks for sharing this information. I will look into getting him a silk pillow case as well. ❤

Because it’s a bonnet meant to be worn in the house to protect your hair while you sleep, not a whole outside-of-the-house fashion accessory. What is it with so many of us not making that distinction? This stuff started in the 80s with people wearing shower caps all day on Jheri curls. Now, bonnets everywhere. Represent yourself better and leave the bonnet in the house. Wear a hat if you’re having a bad hair day.

The Satin/silk pillowcase is also good for the skin on your face. After using moisturizer, cotton will suck all of that out. You have to get rid of your cotton pillowcase.

It is NOT ok to raw dog your pillow! not even for a quick nap
For ppl with longer hair, a braid bonnet is also a good thing to have. It will protect your hair without bending/crushing it below the nape.
I like the bottom of my braids to get that aged look though. I hate when I get fresh braids and the bottom is straight and not curled up

I have an Afro (I pick it out), and I don’t use a bonnet because my hair is so long and my bonnet is so small that it compacts my hair so much that it makes it harder to pick out in the morning. When my hair is shorter tho it does help out a lot but even then, I just sleep with a satin sheets including my pillow case. I still wake up with a flat Afro 😂 but I believe the satin sheets have helped out with less hair breakage (and I been takin care of my hair a lot more too).
Bonnet gang. Recently got silk pillowcases to.
If you're the type of person that will wake up without your bonnet, scarf, or durag on top of your head I recommend getting silk pillowcases. It might not save your hairstyle but it will at least stop breakage.
Edit: It looks like you already spoke on it. 👌🏽
Still good advice 👍🏾 my wife got me one for Christmas but I haven’t used it yet

What do you think of the Grace Eleyae slap cap bonnets? Seem like women love them but it look like a big ol' wave cap. I wonder if it's good at protecting fros without compressing it and if it fit a masculine look?
I’m a woman and I see nothing wrong with a dude wearing protection for his hair. 🤷🏽♀️ if you with a black girl she should understand…. (If you date other races then just have a sit down about our hair 👍🏽)I mean we gotta protect ours so why wouldn’t a black man with hair need one. I have two boys and they have long hair, I do their twist and twist outs and I need all my hard work protected 😁
I am a white girl and I know nothing about black hair care and idk how yt brought me here so I will put in my 2 cents. I wouldn't give to flips if the man I was dating wore a bonnet or w.e. to sleep. Just like u said, all somebody who isn't black would need would be their parter to explain to them what it was for. If the girl has a problem with it then she obviously isn't for u. 99.9% of other race females wouldn't care. Most likely she would just be curious as to the purpose. So ya, just be open and explain what it is for and I can guarantee there would be things that would be diff to w.e. race she is and she would need to explain to the man also. Hope this made sence, I am really stoned right now so sry if this came out odd. 😀
Bro I’ve never seen waves as clean as these 4:05 , that sht was like seeing a double rainbow or smth.
Ngl, I do sleep with a bonnet just for those reasons that you listed which my mom got me on game lol
Keep an extra one in ya go bag too or ya whip fellas. I had to raw dog the pillow at this jawn crib and it was terrible. I left so early the next morning lol.
So to confirm, (sorry I’m very undeducated😅) for curls the satin or silk pillow case is best? I’m drawing a comic and the main character is black (I am not ;P) and I want to make sure I can draw her taking care of her hair properly! She usually leaves her hair down in natural curls vs braids or other styles. So yeah any hair care advice would be very much appreciated! :)

I have two simple braids usually. I wear a durag day and night. At night I will tie my durag like usual except I will thread the tail under my braids and over my ear, then tie in the back under the flap. Then wear a bonnet over it all
Bonnet over durags. I always have an issue with durags coming off at night, and having a line frome the tie on the back of the neck or forehead isn't really for me. I found that using a bonnet for starter locs kept everything in place and breathable, and didn't slip off.

I would say you wrong about compressing curls. Honestly sometimes I prefer it over a bonnet. A durag keeps the definition more intact vs a bonnet where you would keep more volume, you just need to stretch the curls out in the morning
Not for me bro. I have type 3 curls and they lose their definition and there is no way to get them back to how they were looking last night

Levitate 😆
Quick question, anyone knows if you can do 2 strand twists with conditioner as moisturizer, so basically go in the shower, shampoo then take my conditioner in the hair and start twisting?
For curly compression in my opinion is No because your hair is supposed to have volume and With the durag your hair will stay Flat so the curls wont pop put.
I rock the bonnet & durag some times I’ll rather that bonnet slip off and my durag still be on or loose when I wake up 🤷🏽♂️
