I recently got back into mountain biking after 20+ years. I've been doing concrete work for 15 years after a 4 yr time in the army. Now I'm a 45 year old pm that sits at a desk all day with high blood pressure. I have a bad lower back and just had a shoulder surgery about a year ago. The past 5 years or so all I did was power lifting (hence the shoulder surgery.) Your tips and views have helped me considerably in the past month or so. I've dropped 10 lbs and my comfort level on the trails is almost where it was way back when. Keep it up brother! Maybe one day I can help you out and find you a good barber 😂

The American diet consists of lots of inflammatory seed oils which is extremely detrimental to our health. Coconut, Olive, and Avocado oils are the only way to go.
5 minute cold showers are extremely helpful also.
Thank you for the great quality videos Mr. Davidson!

Avocado yes, coconut is the only plant derived food that contains saturated fat, you don't need those hollow calories, eat something with vitamins and minerals instead.

I eat whatever I want, and however much I like to, I am almost 40 and has been keeping my body fat around 13% for years. Beside mountain biking, cooking is also my passion, being so picky on the types and amount of food is not the kind of life I want. So my solution is 1: 40 hours fast ever week, 2: no or less carbs on non-training day, 3: ride climbing trails or pump tracks for 2 hours per week. 4 cold shower every morning. 5 build some muscle to keep the metabolism, and when you do crash, it's also a padding. 6 plus the regular downhill riding we do anyways. I think if you do all those, gaining fat is actually super hard, sometime I have to purposely eat more and less healthy just to gain some weight because my body weight drops too quickly. I am 6 feet and try to keep my weight round 75kg, but once a while it drops near 70kg.

How many grams of protein do you eat? Carbs and protein are the secret to muscle gain
      Plus vitamins and minerals

    • @karlxu782
      @karlxu782 Před 15 dny

@@mountainbikeacademy I don’t count the gram, I only make sure I eat enough. The minimum amount of protein is 2 scoops of protein powder(one in the morning, one after biking or weightlifting) +steak/chicken/fish/egg in every meal. My point is we don’t have to be too picky on food, intermittent fasting+cold shower+mtb is enough to keep our body lean. if we do feel gaining fat, just ride a bit more to compensate.

Don't use olive oil for cooking, when you heat it carcinogenic compounds are created.
Olive oil is for dressing salads etc.
Use avocado oil for cooking. It has the highest smoke point of all edible oils and is omega 3.
The body can make omega 6 and omega 9 from omega 3 but not the other way around.
The standard western diet is overloaded with omega 6 and not enough omega 3.
But in all truth the total dietary fat you need in a day is contained in a couple of walnut halves, also omega 3.
In the end oils and fats are just hollow calories beyond the RDA of omega 3.
You would be looking after your health better by eating those calories contained in nutritionally packed foods.
Foods that contain vitamins and minerals.
Foods such as fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

If you eat mustard with your broccoli it exponentially increases the uptake of sulforaphane.
"Phytochemicals like sulforaphane are antioxidants that cancel out free radicals. Free radical are tiny particles that weaken and damage healthy cells. They form in your body because of pollution, UV rays, food additives and preservatives, and even through natural processes like digestion. It reduces inflammation."

I don’t fry chicken in olive oil I just cook eggs and stuff in it. Not be try hot. Smoke point of unrefined, high quality EVOO is around 325. My pan is probably 200-250 max. But you are correct. Avocado way better for high temp.

Good question and it’s way too big of a topic to cover in a reply here but I’ll share the basics
      - I don’t eat right before a ride.
      - I like to eat lots of carbs the night before a ride
      - hydration is more important than food
      - every hour or 2 I like to snack on gu packs or honey stingers.
All day bike park- kinda eat like a normal human just maybe not a ton of protein and fats.

How do you feel about intermittent fasting?

    • @mountainbikeacademy
      @mountainbikeacademy  Před 16 dny +1

      You mean skipping breakfast? ;)
I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. It's probably a tertiary action behind eating good food and sleeping well.
In my experience, I perform deep work (focused, uninterrupted mental flow, creativity) when I'm empty of food or close to it until about 10AM or 1-2 PM. I can hang on a 45-60 minute HIIT workout if I've skipped breakfast.
Mentally it super helps to not have food in the belly.
But if I'm pushing hard all day in the yard (3 acres, kinda a mini-farm without the animals) or riding all day, I will bonk ultra hard without food.
I also have a friend who is 6'3", 250 SOLID muscle, eats one meal a day only, ever. Works fine for him. Not really for me.
I thinik the big thing is people get so hung up on keto this, intermittent fasting that, then they're pounding a 6 pack of beer on the side lol. You just have to find what works for you and talk with a doctor/nutritionist.
I've also heard getting testing to see what your metabolic profile is can be helpful, I haven't really needed it since discovering my mom's olive oils 10 years ago haha.

@@mountainbikeacademy Yes, skipping breakfast. I would normally have dinner around 6pm and then not eat until 10am. So from 10am to 6pm would be my window for eating which is usually the same thing everyday. Things like chicken breast, eggs, spinach leaves, macadamia nuts, blueberries. All these things throughout my eating window just repeated throughout. Dinner is usually whatever my wife makes.
