In my opinion firearms do not get outdated, they just change. The 229 is a robust firearm and the 40 s&w is no slouch.

When they offered this with the optic cut I got one. It's so smooth to shoot compared to my 19 or micro 9 pistols. I carry it. It's worth the weight. I also picked up the P220 Legion. It's a hoot.

    Great content!
I own a P229 Legion myself and it's so much fun to shoot. The only drawback for me is that due to my high grip angle i tend to ride the slide lock down in which case the slide does not lock back on the last round.
It annoyed me there for a little while but i managed to reposition my thumb and that seemed to work sometimes but all and all it is a great handgun. Keep up the good work and look forward to more videos.

On a legion? They make the slide release really small to avoid that. I also have a high grip and while I press the slide release on an elite p229/226, I don’t at all on the legion versions. In fact I practically can’t even if I tried.

I have the 226 and the 229. One thing I like about the DA/SA is the hammer. This is a safety feature. I feel like if you drop or jostle a striker fired pistol it is more likely to have a misfire vs a hammer. On the P229 and 226 if the gun is in double action and you push the hammer toward the firing pin with your finger you will notice it has a stop mechanism to protect the firing pin. The first pull is a long pull and takes 11 pounds pressure, so an accidental pull of the trigger takes a lot of effort to misfire vs dropping a striker fired pistol at the wrong angle. The best safety in my armature opinion is a DA/SA with a safety or SAO with a safety. Overall, I think the gun is a great design. I know often times the Glock is the benchmark. The Glock is a good gun. Competition in the market is fierce so most of the guns are good. However, I like the added weight for recoil control especially being a new shooter. I feel the extra weight is good to train with as it helps engage and train the muscle groups need to be a good shooter. Guns like these also retain their value better as metal is a more expensive market than plastic.

Nice review-- much appreciated. I've just recently gotten into the DA/SA world, having purchased both a CZ sp-01 competition (red alum grips) and a p-01 omega/decocker. I absolutely love my CZ's-- even the p-01 with the insane 12-14 DA pull out of the box, given the low bore access and recoil characteristics: so much so, I just sold my sig p365xl. Having said that, I have admired the p229 legion from afar for some time, and it's at the top of my list to own in the not too distant future, precisely b/c I'm looking for a gun out of the box I don't have to modify (unlike my p-01, which I will have to do some work to). Question for you: I have smaller/small-medium sized hands. Can you comment at all on the trigger reach in DA mode? I'm curious how it compares to the p-01. The grips and sights out of the box are great, and while the finishing issues are a disappointment given the price point, if the gun runs flawlessly for years to come, I'll live with that. One other comment: it's a shame they don't offer the p229 legion in .40 cal

Thanks. Yeah I’m more of a decocker guy. I learned that pretty quickly with my CZ p01 omega - love the placement the function of the decocker. On my CZ sp01 competition, I’m not a fan of the safety at all. IMHO, if you go manual safety, then all your guns should be of that platform, or else the muscle memory won’t build.

Hell yea this gun is still relevant! The 229 of any variant is still a wonderful sidearm for iwb or owb. I get the size thing for some folks, I also have a Glock 43, 43x and an LCP Max. They all get carried in rotation for one reason or another. I don't carry my 226 or Beretta 92x, but the compact versions are all still viable. Purchased a new P226 Legion in 9 mm.
Talked to my neighbor, who is a Police Officer a day later......
His department just decommissioned his duty weapon, as they were switching to Glock 17's.
He was allowed to purchase his duty pistol.
He had no use for it, so he sold it to me for the amount he bought it for.
So now I have two, my P226, and the P229 .40 in Nitron
I ordered the .357 Sig barrel, and swapped it.
    What an incredible shooter!
It was used to qualify with 51 rounds every 6 months, so it has around 600 rounds through it.......looks like new.
I swapped out the tired night sights for Trijicon HD sights, and ordered a straight trigger from Armorycraft.
    It is perfect now.
It happens to be an older weapon, as the frame was made in Germany.
They had these in the safe, so my neighbor was the first to take possession, new in box, when he was hired.

Interesting that you bring up the "Legion" marketing. It is a bit cheesy but stop and think about it. What is not cool about it. People who think it's not cool are not allowing themselves to have fun and subconsciously trying to be cool. It's a common problem with people in general these days. The too cool for school attitude. I love the tribute to the army. I think it is super cool and a sign of respect to the greatest military the world has ever seen. The same military that is responsible in many ways for the luxury's we enjoy as Americans. You should take pride in this yourself and the things you do in life and you should take pride in what that symbol represents. Thank you to all the veterans who have served this great country.
