When Dortmund won the UCL in 1997 they were against a stacked Juventus with the likes of Deschamps, Del Piero, and Zidane. The odds were against them way more than right now against PSG.
It‘s right Juve were heavy favourites and arguably the best/most consistent team in the 90s.
But don‘t forget Dortmund were very strong in the 90s too. Won the league back-to-back in 94/95 and 95/96, had a very strong core: Ballon d‘Or winner Sammer and the likes of Möller, Reuter, Kohler, Riedle, World Cup and Euros winners of 90‘ and 96‘ with Germany.

If anyone told you at the start of the season that Borussia Dortmund would be in a position where they’re 90 minutes away from reaching the Champions League final, anyone would laugh at you. This is a team who don’t have any significant superstars especially after losing their 2 best players (Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham) in a span of 12 months, this is also a team that had one of the biggest choke jobs I’ve ever seen with the way in which they bottled the title. They should’ve won the Bundesliga last season, but on the last game they choked and let the title slip out of their grasp. In the champions league nobody has been taking them seriously as people see them as the same team that bottled the title and they were seen as underdogs and have been written off, yet against the odds, they might actually get to the champions league final. They’ve done all of this while being in 5th place in the Bundesliga and as I’ve said before the champions league and league football are 2 different things and league form doesn’t correlate directly to European football and it tells you unpredictable football is that they went from choking the Bundesliga title to potential champions league finalists.
They topped the group of death a group that they were expected to finish bottom of, knocked Atletico Madrid out of the champions league even though people didn’t give them much of a chance and everyone believed that PSG would destroy them in the first leg, they came out on top beating them by a goal and while they should’ve scored even more goals, if they get a 1-1 draw or a 1-0 win tomorrow that’s gonna be enough for them. PSG will approach the game on the front foot create chances utilize the wings Enrique has to get his tactics right and they’ll see if it’s enough to come out on top. In front of their home fans, PSG know the importance of winning the game and starting off well and Dortmund have to have the energy and belief that they can come out on top because they thrive as underdogs and they’ve proven you wrong every time you’ve counted them out. In the champions league, due to the knockout format of this competition, its not just about how much talent you have on paper because if it is then PSG would’ve won the champions league by now with Messi Mbappe and Neymar on the same team and also Manchester City would be winning the champions league every year then since on paper they have the best team in the world. Borussia Dortmund aren’t as strong as Real Madrid Manchester City or even Bayern Munich, yet they’re a game away from a Champions League final. Yes, PSG should be able to go through tomorrow, but Borussia Dortmund need to be taken seriously since they are leading on aggregate.

You know Fabian Ruiz missed two easy headed goals and Dembele missed a crazy chance from the 6, the one where Hakimi cut it back to him. Psg also had more XG as well btw.
