Well time to find out in one of the last 100% HOI4 Achievements episodes as Tommy is approaching having all achievements in Hearts of Iron 4!
After so many HOI4 challenges and achievements, it's time to do this one.
How do you get a max level general in HOI4!?
More importantly how do you get the By Merit Alone achievement in the newest HOI4 DLC, By Blood Alone?
The goal here is to promote a general from a unit commander, as a no one and have him become the greatest general in history.
This will be done with the country that has the easiest time grinding battles in HOI4, you already know who it is.

Watching Tommy learn how broken the garrison orders are was funny
you would immagine that someone who considers himself to be a knowledgable Hoi4 player, knows that Garrison works in 'interesting' ways for idk how long now.

@@roijoleil268 for china you always just use a fallback line over the ports and you hold around 10-15 divisions near the coast to crush and landings. That’s how I’ve always done it

I actually never used it, so idk in what and how many ways its bad.
Even befor i heard people say how bad it is i prefered fall back lines as you could divide your units to some be on th fallback line while others have a frontline order.
The way around the garrison being silly is to mark the oceans beside the harbords as "do not enter" or whatever the button is called. Then neither ships, convoys, or troops will enter
Might as well just set as a fall back line and assign there
He didnt do that? My first order of business, when fighting the japanese or brittish is to make certain sea zones off-limits.

I did this achievement in my Papal States/Regnum Romanum world conquest.
It's really tedious and takes forever. I finally got it in 1950...

Wanna know something. How I got this achievement was.... stupid.
I played Germany and for the first 3-4 years I did not do a single political focus. Instead, I assigned the Field Commander Heinz Graf into General (with Panzer Leader trait) and sent him on any civil war or conflict that was going on. Before I knew it, he was to Lvl 5. Then with a built-up army, I did Oppose Hitler and get the Civil War. Graf was responsible for all the Tank divisions as they mowed down the Nazi scum by themselves. By then, he became Lvl 7 (so you know he had no Field Marshal). Then I did a Soviet Then Japanese War as a Democratic Germany. Graf made it to Lvl 9 to get the achievement when nearing Tokyo and after soloing Soviet-Japanese Forces in the millions. Then I spent 1100 PP on the Panzer Corps with medals because I can. Heniz Graf, what a Chad. 10 Attack, 7 Defense, 11 Planning, 8 Logistics.

Cool trick with China, keep your garrison forces on ports putting them up in pairs and set fallback lines on your ports. The rest of your garrison forces can be set to garrison the ports and coastline. This way, you ALWAYS have two divisions guarding each port and garrison forces move to reinforce defending forces or attack enemy divisions when they land.

I have played literally 2 games as China and thats all it took me to realize to use fallback lines on the ports.

The way to use garrison order is to deactivate all the different things they should defend then put the province they defend on butan or another country that you know is going to be neutral so that you can manually put the divisions where you want without them constantly moving but still having the 72 div limit.
Tommy doesn't seem to understand the purpose of Garrison orders. They leave cities because they are out of org and retreat, and don't move back because they aren't garrisons.
You'd think after like 4000 hours TK would know this...

Can you get this achievement faster if you just set the general on garrison order and then individually micro the 72 units? So that the general gets more exp due to the fact he has more divisions in combat.

pretty much anything is possible, there's fallout mods, hell there's a MLP mod that kinda blows your mind with how much work got put into turning a saturday morning cartoon into a wargame.
