ABOUT ME: I'm James Dunne, a runner, sports rehabilitation therapist (similar to physical therapist) and coach based in the UK (Norwich and London).
Since 2007 I've been working with athletes focusing specifically on helping distance runners and triathletes overcome injury and improve performance through developing their individual running technique.
Running biomechanics and physical therapy are real passions of mine. I love to help runners run strong and stay injury free.

I watch from Atlanta, GA, USA. I am 69 yrs and have not run for a long time. When I started running in April 2022, I felt calf pain after running just under 2 miles. I searched on CZcams and found you channel. It helped me a lot. I still watch it and right now I can run 14 miles if I want without pain if I want. I usually run 7 miles, 3 times a week. My average speed has gone from 13min/mile to 10 min/ mile. I have not reached 4 hrs and 22 minutes to be qualified for marathon.
    Thanks
    Gemechu

Professor Noakes says at the 26:25 minute mark minute of this video that the muscles prefer to burn fat as fuel. To get the body to burn fat as fuel you need to reduce or stop consuming carbohydrates.

In the following video at the 17:00 minute mark he talks about 6 time Triathlete world champion Mark Allen who after 4 hours of cycling ran a marathon in 2 hours and 40 minutes where his muscle glycogen at the start of the marathon was depleted. So he worked out that he was burning fat at a rate of 1.2 grams per minute to fuel his marathon.

Professor Tim Noakes was the person who literally wrote the book "Lore of Running" advising marathon runners to load up on carbs before a marathon but later recanted this advice and says that he got it completely wrong and he apologized for this bad advice at the 7:30 minute mark of this video.
