I'm not a hypocrite of a fake. I proudly I admit I have many Rolex fakes. For $700 on average for high end fake, how can you go wrong. The guy in the video has trouble telling them apart with both there and him looking hard; for less than 3k I own 4-5 awesome watches and no one knows they are fake but me. They tell the time so who cares. If one gets stolen, broken, who cares? While you laugh at me, I laugh harder at owner of real Rolex. For every fake I bought, I put $9,300 in the bank and I am NOT afraid to wear mine every day!

Its about supporting craftsmen who are great at what they do and want to do the best they can do to make something that represents them. Having a crafted work, whether its a watch or something else, is a reminder of someone elses passion in life, not just their day job to put food on the table.
Further then, why care about what you look like? You sound like you buy a Rolex to get prestige, but why do you bother to care about what other people think? Maybe youre a businessman and those fake Rolexs allow you to make a better impression for a cheaper price? I don't know.
And if all youre after is "they tell the time so who cares" then why buy a fake rolex for hundreds at all? You can go get a $5 plastic watch from Walmart. It tells the time so who cares? After owning a GMT and OP for almost 10 years I wanted to get myself a Hulk for my 60th birthday, about 2 weeks later I came across a page about high end clones and decided to give it a try. Once came I compared it to my original GMT (in terms of quality, feeling of the steel etc), I understood one thing, China can't be beaten. There is no chance ANYONE will be able to spot it as a fake, Even the inside movement is identical. The build quality and finish put a lot of legitimate Swiss brands to shame.

You can tell this comment is fake not only because of the stock photo profile picture but because it includes a brand name for fake watches. Something you can easily Google. A call to action for potential fake watch customers. That and if you look at this guy's comment history you can see it's full of copypasted scam posts like this one.
I work on devices and part of my job is to determine if the parts being repaired have been previously tampered with or are third party parts all together. I was able to tell which Rolex one was the fake in most side by side comparisons due to the craftsmanship, but wow, this would be hard to determine if you ONLY had the fake. Awesome video!

Iphone X I think the issue is not the quality of the fake, but making sure you are getting a genuine Rolex when you're paying for a genuine Rolex. What if someone sold you a fake Rolex for the price of the genuine.

Iphone X knowing if something is fake benefits the buyer, because he won't get bamboozled. Selling a fake for the price of an original is entirely different, and it's obviously not a cool thing to do. Unfortunately there are many shady folks in the world, which is exactly why buyers need to be careful and be able to spot fakes as best they can.
A real Rolex should come with an authentic fake one so you can feel relaxed wearing it while keeping the real one locked up in a safe. Everyone wins this way

My cousin purchased a genuine Rolex Daytona years back as well as a replica and he keeps the real one in a safe deposit box and wears the fake one. Hard to tell the difference.

Not really. There are other things that he didn't hit on too. Such as the date window or cyclops as its properly called is 2.5x mag on a genuine rolex. Forever and always.
On fakes they certainly CAN be, but often they will be 1.5x or simply half again as large.
Even some of the really good fakes have this flaw and it's a dead giveaway when you look to see how small the date indicator actually is by looking at a angle under the cyclops. Its pretty small.
The laser etching as he mentioned is actually a much more pronounced and noticable flaw, and can really be detected without a loupe, if you ever happen to have seen the genuine article, there's no way to miss it. If you haven't actually just gone and looked at real watchesto see what they look like and are buying at street level or private sale, then you arent really trying to buy a watch you are trying to buy the prideful feeling or having bought something way below its market value. You dont care about the watch itself so much as you do about being able to say, yeah I got this at like 10% of the cost. And or just the feeling of having gotten over on someone either by their ignorance or desperation.
So if that's how you are buying you deserve what you get. It's totally cool to buy preowned, though it's not really how I would do it except in cases where it can literally not happen any other way, but if you dont care enough to actually be able to tell, you shouldn't really be that upset when it turns outit's fake, because, of course it's fake, rolexes ain't cheap. I mean really why would someone with 3 rolexes that they can literally pawn for 8 to 1500 each if they are the most entry level model and kinda dinged up be selling them on the corner of main and 5th for 300 each? Makes no sense. They can easily go to a shop and make 6 to 10x or more?
900 vs 4500? Even if they were selling them for 1/5 the cost of a 5k watch they could easily make 1.5 more selling at a shop. You have a pristine 5k watch you can flip that on predatory terms at a shop for 1.5. because someone will absolutely drunk buy a 5k watch for 3k and the shop makes double their money back. It's real simple economics. People who tell stories of selling a 7k watch for 500 to a shop are either lying because it didn't happen or they sold a 50 dollar fake to a chump for 10x the cost. Or they had a 7k watch that their dad bought in the army 50 or so years ago for 1k because that what it cost then, and he wore the heck out of it. Replaced the band, face and crystal, which usually destroys the resale especially for people who want collectible watches, then, then passed it down and the guy selling the watch also worked the heck out of if and hasn't kept it serviced and the cyclops is all dinged up now and the shop keeper is looking at a watch of a model that today new sells for 7k, but this one with no box or papers or anything, while actually genuine, due to its year and differences in production today vs original, at best in optimal circumstances sells for about 4k. And this will never be optimal because it's not and likely CANNOT be made original because the original parts are lost or discarded. As it sits before he can even sell it at his standard, he has to order a crystal, a new bracelet or band, the have someone refurb and clean then service the movement and probably put a new crown on. So after spending 500 on it, hes gonna be real lucky to get it set right for less than 500 more. And his max blue sky hope for resale is gonna be 2k. So yeah go look at a few real watches and see what they look like. Put on a nice pair of shoes that look like you shined them and wear a suit and go to a zales or Jared or other 'fine jewler' and ask to look at a few nice pieces. Pick them up. Examine the clasp. See how it works. I bet the fakes dont feel as smooth when they operate. Note the finish on the edges of surfaces and corners. Listen to the watch, notice if you can still feel the movement working even if you eyes are closed. This costs nothing but will save you buying a fake. Which will save you if you ever do have to walk into a pawn shop and sell something so you can make rent. There's probably few feelings worse than being desperate enough to sell something like that and then being told by someone who knows that it isnt real and that not only is it not worth much but that they cant even legally sell it so they obviously cant buy it.

While I do agree with you, It is much easier to sell a watch with the Rolex brand name on it, rather than a Chinese company you most likely never heard of. It's also easier to fetch a higher price for the watch (or scam someone out of a few thousand dollars who believes the fake is a genuine one). All about money. The irony is, these fakes are better watches and keep better time than some lower end brands on the market (casio, some citizens, etc...)

Which tells you how much profit that Rolex is making per watch. However, Rolex spends a phenomenal amount of money on marketing and advertising, as well as sponsoring concerts, sporting events, etc. The fake watch makers ride on the back of all that marketing expense.

He really didn't do his usual good job of demonstrating the advantages of the real so it made the fake look much better than it really is. Plus he played a little loose with how close the fake is to the real. This was geared more toward the novice who might be tempted to buy a 'good deal' because he thinks hes getting over on someone or is getting something really nice.
They ARE very close IF you dont look close, or dont know enough about the real ones to be able to tell the real thing.
For instance for a long time the secret service never studied fake money for their training. They did do it to forensically determine how something was made or if it was similar to other examples and might help determine who made it or if two examples were made by the same person. But for training in identifying fake money, they only studied REAL money.
And they studied it. They made copious notes about every little feature.
Weight, average dimensions, texture, little tiny details that are hard to notice and therefore hard to duplicate or easy to omit, the smell even of real money and its durability. They know what the margins of error in the production of money is. So its variance in any one particular feature.
In this way, they don't have to ever worry about confusing the properties of fake and real money. They only know what real money is like. If an example is RIGHT, it's wrong by default. For instance if the ink easily smears, it's wrong. Because real money doesnt do at. It DOES smear when rubbed, but only when vigorously so, if it smears easy, it's fake. Smearing correctly doesnt meanit's real, because it can be duplicated, but failing the test makes it fake. And they use multi factor authentication for this not just two or three. Thet dont use the detector pens at all other than to write cute little notes to each other. The pens work off a reagent that reacts with starch that's in paper. Money is made of cotton and other fibers. It contains the starch but not in a reactive form. Both are cellulose, but differently processed. But you can get paper treated to where the starch content is so low as to not turn the reagent. And you can apply starch to real money to get a false positive. It useless.
But now like here, they do have to study in training some of the more high quality fake money because it's so good and so close that if you give it a even multi factor authentication it will pass. The test has to be very high resolution. Some of the stuff that comes out of China is actually higher quality money than the real thing. Imagine declaring something counterfeit because it's better than the original! This is also one of the reasons we only have a 100$ bill and nothing higher commonly produced after a certain year. It's too much money in one note if it were to be mass produced as a fake.
The rolexes arent quite to this point yet though, you can do certain thing for the most part worn just your natural 5 senses to avoid being taken I and so far for the majority of casesremove removing the back will tell the real story

It is because these Swiss watches like Rolex are so overpriced in relation to their actual manufacturing costs, that replicas abound. If the actual cost of making a Rolex were commensurate with its price, then fakes would be drastically reduced...or even disappear. I have not heard of masses of fake Seikos, Squales, etc.

D. W. watches are cheaply made pieces, considering they are housing a cheap quartz movement. You are basically paying for the branding there. I found they are priced to high for what they are offering, which at the same time makes it profitable to produce fake ones. So actually it is the same story as with the rolex watches.
I think this only affect rolex. If you look at jlc, iwc for example. Its harder to copy because of their much complex casing design. And in most case you can see their internal component from the back. Rolex submariner or explore are too plain.
Haha nope, JLC and IWC in particular have numerous new 1:1 clones on the market recently, they look 99% identical and are anywhere between 250-350 usd a piece. Don't even get me started on Panerai, there are fakes that look 99.9% the real thing and even has clone movements with the same decorations.

"Faking the machinery to make the watches" - a _hell_ of a lot of "swiss" watches are actually imported chinese blanks which are finished in switzerland (or in other words the machinery is often the same)
Now you can get the SH3835 movement which replicates the Rolex movement, and is compatible with genuine parts! People usually stick with the A2824 movement in the fake as they are more reliable and cheaper to service.

Kinda of topic here, but this really goes to show the amount of time and effort, the attention to detail and probably the passion that the Swiss put in their watch-making. Even under a microscope, their level of attention to detail, doesn't fall of. This is something that a person will never do, unless he is checking for fakes but even under that it still manages to be immaculate.
To the people who are asking what's the point of buying a real one - you buy an expensive watch for yourself, not for others to admire. Sure, you can fool everyone with a fake Rolex, but you can't fool yourself. I guess some people are able to live with that though. I most certainly can't. Work hard, save up, buy the real deal and be reminded of how hard you worked to get it. That's the whole point.
You buy things because they're expensive? Nonsense. You buy an expensive watch for the expensive movement inside and the all-round craftsmanship. If they were actually identical then of course you would buy the cheaper one. FYI I'm not saying one way or the other, I've got nothing against replica watches.

Buying a Patek, VC, Rolex, Omega or even an Oris is so much more than just buying it for the status. There's also the history, the tradition, the cultural influences, the craftsmanship of the brand that you would not get from a fake/replica.

I notice that these types of videos focus mostly on differences in form, and ignore function. I would love to see a video comparing accuracy, power reserve, water proofing, resilience and the like - rather than just superficial differences.
Most of the fakes work like shit. Heard of some fake manufacturers being really lucrative though where they spend literally thousands faking each one. Cant imagine ones like that working much worse than the real deal
@@Dylski. I know that they are typically off ~20s a day compared to a tenth of that for the real deal in serviced condition. This is true for even the legit homage watches that cost >$1000. Also since servicing one would be dicey ,to put it lightly, I'd imagine they are not made to last more than 5 - 10 years.

The biggest gripe I have with this video is that the fake and the genuine are never consistently on one side or the other.

And while showing off is some people’s motives, many are watch enthusiasts that truly appreciate the art that is watch making, and the craftsmanship behind one.
An authentic watch is usually a milestone achievement in the life of a working man. It means something to him more than what others might think. If you're buying things to impress people, it just shows you are as fake as the watch is. If you want to "impress" people with a fake, there are other watches out there like replica APs that get the point across in a bigger way.
To those who saved up and rewarded themselves, cheers. To those wearing the replicas, fake it till you make it.

It doesn’t matter if you can spot a fake Rolex, people will make their own assumptions based on how you look, how your dressed etc...
And if you know them, based on how much money you earn/have. A rich guy with the fake watch will be believed, whereas a poor one with the real thing will be called out for wearing a fake. That is why I would buy a replica if I was rich- you don't have to baby it and if you break it/get mugged you can just buy another one without really losing anything.

You do know that Replica watch community is a pretty big hobby among real collectors too right? Just have a look at RWI webpage. Users there have many genuine rolexes but also replicas.
Great presentation, as a Jeweler I’ve gone by many fakes in my time and feel bad for them and their money lost. And I do admit they are getting better! I had one in my shop for a week and it kept better time than a real one.

Rolex changes the dial spacing/kerning all the time. It's not a very good way to determine authenticity. My 114060 (no date) has spacing as seen on the original in this video. A friend of mine has an 116610 (date) that has the spacing as well, but his Father's 116610 has no spacing - both bought at the same AD. Font type and 'boldness' also changes quite regularly. They're all over the place, so take that into consideration if you're buying second-hand.

What is badly done in this video is that they usually have the fake one on the left in this type of comparison, but when they start showing the details which are telling several of the examples that show where the fake fall short are actually on the right side, and also they don't indicate which is which.

I hate to say this but at $400 it does rather show up how crazy Rolex pricing has become!
Of course I would never condone a fake and don't see the point, much rather have a watch from a proper brand as I know the fake is a fake and it would feel weird wearing it but truthfully this video to me shows up more how crazy Swiss luxury pricing has become for what you get than how good fakes have become.
I have a Sea-Gull with one of those automatic movements ( probably the same movement the faker has purchased from Sea-Gull) the ruddy thing runs at chronometer time and is very very reliable.
