Those are handy tricks. I do lots of measuring tricks as well. I tend to measure after to keep in practice, but nothing works better than setting the pieces together. It just makes good sense. Not to mention ,when I'm making something for myself I may use leftover uneven material but shhhh we wont talk about that lol.

Thanks for posting this method, I used to work for a cabinet company who did everything the same except they didn't dado anything and cut the back front and bottom all from the same ripped piece of 5/8ths melamine and brad nailed it all together... It's the cheapest way considering time and having less materials to stock in the shop and in most situations it holds up because the undermount slides hold the drawer bottom so the sides are just there to keep the stuff in the drawer and not structural. If I'm doing something fancy I do it totally like you but if I'm going cheap and fast I use their variation.

i got used slides for free (sikai brand), and i cannot figure out how to separate them for installation!
when i pull the drawers out, the notch in the back just comes right out.
what can i do to fix this?
I want to add, I have to back pinholes in the right spot. I am using drawers that I also got for free, and they were originally used with the slides.
They did not really slide well to begin with, and I wanted to use this for a different project anyway.
I built my own bed with a 25 inch clearance underneath last year....so that I could save space with drawers and pull-out storage underneath.
I ended up putting this shelf sideways, and mounting it on casters. Then, I installed a handle to be able to pull it out easily.
Sideways, rather than upright the spacing was a little bit different. It wasn't off much, I was able to fix that problem.
What I'm stuck on now, is how do I get these *#!@!&!* drawer slides to act right??!!

How do you figure out what under mount length you need for the drawer? Is it the full drawer length or just the inside measurement?
It's the drawer box length not including the drawer front

The only problem measuring like that is that you lose side to side adjustment which is nice to have 👍🏻
On those particular drawer slides, side to side movement is adjustable with the slide itself.
