  • I finally did the timing belt on my friends 2003 Vue, I ran into a few problems with the cheap kit I bought off Amazon for this engine, while the kit worked it was SUPER tight. Took a lot of back and forth to get the cam locks in place. The crank holder hole was also off center, but not super important as it still did the job.
I also ran into an issue where either the person before me put the wrong spacer in the wrong place, or I did. I'm not the most organized, but the kit I used had a new bracket which had a spacer for the top eccentric pulley, so when I replaced the bottom pulley I used the spacer the was already on there. It was wrong. The pulley near the water pump needs the thick spacer. I found this out after I smoked half a belt, and rubbed the print off the new replacement. Rotate your engine by hand and check your pulleys to make sure they roll! Make sure everything is away from the engine, mark your pulleys and start it while watching if you really want to be sure the pulleys move. You shouldn't be able to see the mark while the engine is running. Don't run the engine long, and make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN EVERYTHING IS OUT OF THE WAY OF ALL THE BELTS! NO CAM LOCKS, NO BELT LOCKS, NO WIRE HARNESS, NO FINGERS!
When messing with the pulleys for adjustment after putting the belt on, use binder clips or small spring wood clamps to avoid having the belt move off the cam. The crank should also have something lodged into it (like the old belt, or a belt holder that is included in the OTC kits, or the cheapo kit I bought.)
And although I didn't mention it in the video, removing the crank pulley bolt was not possible for me, I used a 1700 ft/pound 3/4 inch impact gun running at 90 PSI and wasn't moving it. Bump starting to try and remove it also didn't work. Heating it up, oiling it, and mixing and matching all of that didn't work. I left it after all that work, unfortunately. With the GM strike occurring at the time I did the video, I wouldn't have been able to get a replacement if I cut the washer and drilled out the bolt. Also not my car, so I was less cavalier then I'd have been on my own vehicle. Good luck! Get stuff fixed!
amzn.to/33XprYU is the cheapo camset I used, it works but is a tight fit!
amzn.to/33YMDWD is the ACDelco kit I used. You don't want to go cheap here, OEM, ACDelco or Gates.

Not a problem, it's easy to make a mistake. Hopefully they help, uh.. not doing that.

Rock auto is your best bet, or any local auto parts store.

I know the CKS is near the oil filter on our 03 L300 V6, and the ECT sensor is near the battery upper driver side. Might you know what this sensor is in my video? Under and rear of the water pump on passenger side leaking coolant.

@@JnJShiffler I want to say that's the oil pressure sender unit, as it is right above your oil pan. You sure it isn't leaking oil? Or you have a coolant leak higher? And when OPSUs go bad, they can leak out of the back, so that wouldn't be surprising to be where the leak is.
