My eldery disabled dad will secretly put this on and scream, "I WILL SURVIVE! SING IT, GLORIA!" And then dance his heart out. He absolutely loves this song! Lol!
Ahh that makes my heart sing
I love that! Amazing.
That is sooo sweet!!!
❤️
Thats the best thing I ever heard 😂
For every woman who had a man leave them, this is THE song!
Or gay men
Or men in general. To me this isn’t just about break up, but betrayal or harm by other human.
@@m82s01l Isn't it about domestic violence? It was a b-side which blows my mind.
Oh yes, I was 16 yrs old with a baby, and her dad cheated on me, I was so naive. ❤️
When my daughter experienced her 1st heartbreak I intro'd this song to her.
This came out when I had left my abuser for the last time. Domestic violence wasn’t even a term yet. It helped me a lot.
I am so glad you are survivor and got out. Nobody should have to go through something as horrible as abuse at the hands of another person.
You’re so right and thank you for your comment. Back then there were no domestic violence shelters, no support. The only places available were Christian shelters where you were required to listen to proselytizing rhetoric. Being Jewish, that was extremely difficult.
Good for you! I did too! This song makes me emotional
God Bless you mama!
Glad you were able to get out. ❤
When Gloria released this...many women celebrated their first "I've been dumped" anthem 😆
It is also an anthem for gay men...
Especially if that man later called drunk in the middle of the night saying he wanted her back.
@@adamwarlock1 True that 😉
@@prd1073 You bet! I would sing
this loud and proud with my gay
"brothas" 🥰
You should hear Gladys Knight sing a slow version of it.
About 11 years ago, I had to do 5 months in an Arizona prison for ladies (I hadn't broken any of God's rules) .... One afternoon, in the shower I heard the most precious voice I had ever heard, a sister inmate, was singing this song, all the verses. She was inside another curtain, showering. She had a beautiful voice, strong and pitch perfect. At that moment, I came to love this song.
men don't get curtains, but the inmates are huge on female empowerment anthems
One of the great girl power anthems of the 70s. And all us young girls loved it!!❤️
Kathy Nicholson for anyone who has been betrayed or hurt... for me this isn’t really specific to women. I’ve always found strength in the song as a man
We still love it
Check out “Enough is Enough” ...
Every girl of the 70's sang this one loud and proud, LOL.
LGBTQ anthem also......
"Go on now go. Walk out the door. Just turn around now, cause you're not welcome any more." Tell it, Gloria. Girl power!
Please give a first listen to Tina Turner - "What's Love Got to do With it" and "Proud Mary" and don't miss Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools", and "I Never Loved a Man". Powerhouse Queens! You won't be disappointed.
Absolutely!!
The breakup anthem for all us, we’d actually have parts of this on our outward message on the answering machine; yep, that old 😂
YESYESYES!
I'm the Patreon supporter who suggested this; once again you guys are awesome for listening! You said you wanted to hear more female artists and this is one of the best right here. You watched Karen Carpenter, now Gloria Gaynor... you guys ROCK because you listen to and appreciate ALL kinds of music!
slashdisco And they were honest too when they said they’d heard the song before 😊
Thank you for this!
You're the real mvp
This is how you know how these young fellas are genuine----Tim says, "I know this song!" right away.
I was 20 years old when this came out. Taught disco and loved every moment of my life at that time. Danced until dawn lol
Beautiful Black woman singing a kick ass song! yeah!
I would like to see some Joan Baez, I remember now since I see your name. "I asked my love to take a walk, take a walk, just a little walk, down by the bank of the Ohio." What a beautiful song. Feel it in the air tonight and this, both murder songs.
This song defined the late 70s and a whole generation of young girls - I for one!
1970’s Women’s liberation anthem!
Since we're in a disco groove, you should totally check out Donna Summer! Hot Stuff or I Feel Love are good starting points, and I Feel Love basically paved the way for early techno music!
Hot Stuff is so good! Please add this one to your list!!
...or even better “Bad Girls”
Speaking of early techno, do "No UFOs" by Model 500
No more tears Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand
Or that early Prince video where he looks like Diana Ross.
czcams.com/video/Rp8WL621uGM/video.html
I was ten years old when this song was first released. Where has all that time gone? When did I ever get this old?
What about those of us who DANCED to it in the discos? LOL!!
Ronald Elkins I recall my dad having 60 minutes on as a kid and Andy Rooney doing his ending piece saying, life is like a roll of toilet paper....the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. I was probably in middle school, so I really didn’t appreciate it, but it obviously made an impression. Now that I’m older....it’s so true.
she actually done this video in a back brace as she had injured her back thats why she is not moving around in the video
was that injury from the roller blading
I’m almost 60, this song played at my school dances in 1978. Love this song!!
You guys are amazing. You are giving yourselves the best education in music history. I love your openness. You put a smile on my face every time I watch you. Great job. Keep doing what you’re doing. Peace ✌🏻
I saw her live in Memphis 1978. She opened for the Village People.
Makes sense lol
This was one of the biggest hits of the disco era - the movie, Saturday night Fever, with Travolta and the songs of the BeeGees ushered in the era. Everyone wanted to learn the disco dances and the clubs had the dance floors that lit up from underneath. It was a fun and exciting time.
This song is every woman's song at one time or another. Sometimes it is a man, sometimes it is a job, friendship, whatever! It comes to our heads like a Bible Scripture! haha
And gay’s
Nothing better than an up-tempo song about heartbreak.
One of my favorite songs of all time. This is how Disco is done right.
I owned 8 records of "I will survive" because I kept wearing the grooves down as a pre-teen. It's the disco anthem! Amazing voice and Amazing stage presence.
This song never ever gets old..💝
Gloria Gaynor - takes me back to Rene's Bar in Tampa - where she performed live. I was there every weekend in the 70s.
Had this album and I listened to it constantly. Women everywhere celebrated this anthem. Check out the entire album you won’t be disappointed.
YES, Check it, let me first say that this song was about an abused woman who survived and thrived. Back in 78'. Disco was HUGE. The movie Saturday Night Fever was the movie to go see and everyone wanted to live that. Some of the major Clubs in New York City were Studio 54 and in Brooklyn 2001 Odyssey. I was too young to go to them so I used to go to teen discos when I was 13. The hustle was the dance that everyone used to know and this song made you want to get up on that floor and dance. If you were not at the clubs, roller rinks were the big place to hang out at. There were a few female black artists during this time that recorded really great songs like this. I will add a couple to my Ricardos Recommendations List.
This song was also in the movie "The Replacements ". Fun watching the football players dance to it 🤣
Yesss Keanu singing this 💖💖
Jenni W. I watch that movie just to see them dance..
Orlando Jones speak/singing it....a favorite scene in that movie.
This one REALLY takes me back. This one and I Don't Need Another Hero, always take me back.
Need to check out some KC and the Sunshine Band....
laura kali Definitely! You guys would like them I bet.👍🏻
Boogie Shoes!
I love your reactions. Keep them coming.
One of the ALL TIME GREATEST BREAKUP SONGS that ever existed!
Makes me feel like roller skating! Unfortunately, I'm to old. I'd seriously hurt myself.
This Channel simply makes me happy!
Thank you for the love you all give out!
The world needs to laugh as we change the world one BANGER at a time!
For Womens Wednesday: Imelda May, specifically Inside Out.
Back in the 80s rollerskating was the THING! Everyone could skate like that. Great breakup song!
Not quite everyone, lol. But I tried!
This song still holds up. I was 13 when I first heard it, and it's helped me through the years with all my heartbreaks. ♥️💗♥️
So self-affirming. Love it.
I love seeing young people discovering the music of my youth! We may be old geezers, but we had the best music ever! LOL
This song helped me through many a breakup!
Song of survival! Classic 70's disco song!💗
"I am Woman" Helen Reddy is my favorite woman power song, but this is way up there.
Damn, I remember roller disco. Never did it, but I remember it lol
I was 6 when this song came out. YOU GOT TO LOVE THIS SONG!
You guys are the best! This is the best female empowerment song! Thank you and God bless 🙏🏻
Soundtrack to my mum and Dad’s divorce 1979 mum played it endlessly, I love this song but had to avoid it for a long time 😂
Gloria has an amazing voice!
Goodness this was all over the radio in the late 70's.
Rose Royce "Wishing On A Star"
"Love Don't Live Here Anymore"
Oh man, such nostalgia. I, too, have roller skated many MANY times to this song.
I love the roller disco! We skated to this song many times
Uplifting and empowering. Such a great voice.
She was bad ass!!! One of the best!! Love her. ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
Love watching young people enjoying great songs from the past.
Great song, that has been all around the world and back. I have good versions in Arabic (from Egypt and Lebanon) in Spanish and too many top versions in English to count The song has survived. Thanks for playing it.
There are songs that you cant hide from theyre everywhere this is one of them its in so so so many movies and tv shows
I remember dancing to this song when I was in high school.
Tim always gets into it, he feeling it.😘
Tim is just adorable😊
It was disco darlings! You had to be there! Thanks for being so appreciative,
I rollerskated the hell out of this song
One of many songs considered the gay anthem and sung by a true gay diva! Love that you guys don’t shy from any music types.
Just FYI there are those of us who never knew it was a gay anthem (not sure why it would be? Seriously doesn't it apply to every breakup anywhere?) or that she's a gay diva. I guess you have to be in that world to know that. I've only heard that for Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Judy Garland.
There was no Implication. But thanks for clarifying that up.
omg she aint gay
@@thebarkaysfan1100 no one said she was gay. She is one of the gay divas, like Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland.
She’s an open minded chick..
OMG. This was a huge hit. We used to disco pary at the roller skating rink. This was an anthem. roller skating was huge and an out crop of disco
One of my favorite songs ever!
Go Gloria Gayner, girl power!!! Thanks Tim and Fred. I will survive Out! Joan and Keith Bates
All of us girls sang this song as loud as we could. You guys are the best. I am old enough to be your Grandma and your grandmothers must be so proud of you. Your are just the best!
Used to dance to Gloria’s songs at the disco / nightclubs of the 80’s, great dance music back then ... can see you guys had a hard time getting through if ... the skater video was painful too 🥴
Gloria Gaynor made a comeback with "I Am What I Am.". This is a fantastic song...an anthem to celebrate diversity! In these trying times, it may be worth a listen/reaction.
I love this song. Such a nice breakup song. I love her spite!
Such a Queen ❤
I remember hearing this when it first came out! Loved it then... Love it still!!!
I was 9 years old when this song came out 😁 I Love it ❣❣
THE Anthem!!! Long Live The Gloria!!!
This makes me so Happy!!!!!!!!
From back in my teenage days! Great song.
This song and her performance spurred many women to feel empowered a whole generation. Fabulous!
Best brake up song in music history!!! I was only a year old when this bad ass song came out!!!!
I loved this song & I brought it to the dance floor. Still listening to it in 2020! 💃👗👡😁
Every woman can feel this one!!
Go on and go, you're not welcome anymore! Choooowwww
Donna Summer is the Disco Queen of all time. Listen to her “I feel Love” What vocal range. She was also a wonderful painter.
Disco Rollerskating was a thing back then! It really was! ❤️
I remember I went to King Yum restaurant on their Karaoke night Friday Night with my two Gen X friends James and Tara and there were a group of college girls that were from St, Johns University that sang I will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.
The Queen of disco❣️
Awesome woman’s anthem....we will survive..awesome song....kd lang boys...song crying
The football movie, “The Replacements” has this song as a dance. Really funny.
Keanu Reeves😍
Some of those guys had to really be talked into doing that scene. But I get why they chose that song - it’s the last thing you’d expect football players to be dancing to.
The most classic song of them all♥️
aye bro u should listen to hotel california one of the goat songs from the 80s i think
'76
That came out in the 70s. 76 to be precise

@@eleven-hopper And it was by The Eagles.
You did it! :-)
Thank you for this song in your channel!
love her disco roller skating
1978 when this song came out. I was 12 years old, too young for a boyfriend. However, my older sister and most of her friends got dumped or broke up with their boyfriends, and my oldest sister ran out and brought this album every day her friends came over for months. Listening to this, but I love this song😂
I love this song. Gloria Gaynor recently did a video with this song to show the importance of washing your hands during COVID 19.
I love this song!
Great song and sooooo true !!! Can't believe you all had never heard of it!!!!
Go Gloria!!! Yes!!!
Classic disco music. Gloria Gaynor had a wonderful voice. You could do I Never Can Say Goodbye from her.
She was a true Disco Diva
God damn... She is such a beautiful powerful woman! Mi reina! Ma reine!
Great song. Love watching.
Another disco queen to react to would be Donna Summer - "Last Dance"! Yes!
