Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, taking place in several Wizarding World locations such as Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, and the Scottish Highlands. AppletonOak takes on the role of a student (voiced by Sebastian Croft or Amelia Gething) starting their studies at Hogwarts in the fifth year. The player character possesses the power to control a mysterious ancient magic and holds the key to an "ancient secret" that threatens the stability of the wizarding world.

With the Revelio ping, I don't know if you noticed but it sends out a wave from your location and pings when it hits the closest page. You can tell how far away it is by how long it takes to ping, just like with timing between thunder and lightning to guess how close a storm is to you. Helped me find a few pages in obscure spots by playing "Warmer Colder"!

You weren't doing anything wrong with the Merlin trial oak. When in doubt cast every spell you have. If you can target it, you can hit it with a spell. The mallosweet is only to place in the circle, not to solve the puzzle itself
I love watching these playthroughs but anytime anyone casts only 1 of their spells on something I'm always like Noo Try The Others Too!! lol But seeing Oaks Ah-Ha moment is always worth it in the end.
I came here to say the same thing! When I see there is something I am supposed to interact with and I'm not sure how, I just use every single spell until something happens for me!!

At the end when you were trying to do Professor Hecat's quest, you were actually following the Jackdaw path. The Quest for Hecat is to "dodge an enemy attack 10 times" it wont complete until you get in battle and dodge. Since Hecat's quest isn't a "destination" quest it automatically has you following the Main Story Quest (Jackdaw) path. The main quest (Jackdaw) is locked because you need the spell rewarded from completing Professor Hecat's quest to continue MSQ. When out in the forest use Revelio to locate enemies in the area. Revelio + gold glow = loot, Revelio + blue glow = puzzle, Revelio + red glow = enemy.

Yellow = things you can collect/pick up
Blue = puzzles/things you can interact with (also floo flames)
Red = enemies
and the chime sound, as commented before for hidden guidebook pages :D
- there are other sounds/ audio ques for other secrets hidden around and it can help in settings -> accessibility - to toggle audio ques to visually show as well
You have no idea how much I wait for these episodes to come out!! A few tips - you can use the floo powder anywhere, you don't need to be at a fireplace, just open your map and click on the location you want to go (this can be confusing because in the books/movies you need to be at a fireplace, but you don't in game). Also, if an item or amount of gold shows on the right hand side, this means your character his just picked it up. So when you search a bag or chest it will automatically give it to you (unless you have full inventory). Finally, if you do Revelio and something lights up - if in doubt just try every spell you have at it! Something will probably work, and if not, it might be a later game thing.
To make things easier, open field guide and go to Settings. Then scroll down to Accessibility Options (looks like a stick figure person), then scroll to "Audio Visualizer." Audio Visualizer is turned off by default, but turning it on will give players a visual indicator of whatever direction the ding/chime is coming from with a small bell icon.

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! OAK IS BACK WITH MORE HOGWARTS LEGACY!!!! Y'all are spoiling us this holiday season with reactions and gameplays, and I thank you for it.
according to the books , the elves prepare the food in the kitchens, then they place them in the four big tables in the kitchen that match the four big tables that are in the great hall and then the food gets transported up to the great hall. Fred and George go to the kitchens all the time and the elves are always happy to see students and fill their pockets with treats. Really neat!
Oak just so you know, all of the different houses have a different quest to get the Jackdaw pages. If you had chosen Hufflepuff, you’d be in the only house that gets to visit Azkaban during the game!!!

OMG, the pumpkin part lol ... I've never laugh so much this year as this one !!!! 😂😂 You didn't need to destroy each pumpkin, just the ones that wiggled a little. As you just destroyed them, you haven't got the chance to look at the ones moving 😂 !!! Well, at least that was funny !!! Keep going Oak, we are ejoying the game with you !!! :D

A few tips that haven’t been brought up yet, I believe:
- During fights it always gives you dueling feats objectives on your bottom right, but they are by no means necessary.
- Some enemies are too heavy to be affected by Accio or Levioso (like that big toad in the beginning).
- You don’t have to be near floo flames to travel. Teleport to any unlocked one from the map.
- Make sure to always have a few of those wiggenweld healing potions on you: easiest is to buy it (stop by at the shop in Hogsmeade),or you can brew it yourself in the potions classroom.
And don’t worry about taking your time to figure things out! Some of us, I see, get a bit frustrated, but it’s kinda like rooting for your favorite sports team. You know what you want them to do, but they are just keeping you on edge. And once they finally score a goal - you are more than ecstatic)

Its also worth noting; some spells that may not seem to work at first, may actually work under a different circumstance. Levioso on toads, for example.

I don't know how or why, but watching a grown man going through outfits in a Wizarding World video game has become the highlight of my week! Loving the series DB!
Use a spell of one color to break the shield of the respective color, levioso is a yellow spell, so it breaks yellow shields, accio is a purple spell, so it breaks purple shield, etc... Try to start using combinations of spells, for example: incendio has a short range, always try to use accio and then incendio, it's a great combo to start with. And keep an eye on the cooldown of each spell.
Oak was so busy looking at his potion he didn't see what happened when Weasley's potion went wrong... hopefully Oak will replay the game as a different house and see some of the stuff he has missed the first time through.

You went right up to the Honeydukes door casting revelio and i admit i did say out loud Go Inside!!! 😂😂😂
My OCD would drive me crazy in this game. My head would explode with all the opened tasks on the go.
You can instantly see if new gear you pick up is an upgrade. If it has a green arrow it's an upgrade and equip it, a red arrow means downgrade, and you can sell. Speaking of which, you don't need to go to Hogsmeade to sell your gear or any specific shop, any merchant will buy it, you were at a merchant in that village at the beginning.
Also, be careful about selling gear that is darkened out, it only means you are not high enough level yet, you sold a level 10 piece that as a big upgrade.
And yes, there are a ton of pages to find, when you open your map and move to different region it shows in the corner how many collectibles there are. And the longer it takes to hear the "ding", the farther away it is. They could be behind locked doors, outside, above, below, anywhere. If you get stumped I'd just move on, it'll pop up later.

Just a quick tip for Merlin trials: try all spells you have on them. One by one, usually something works, though around the "world" some might require advanced spells.
i cant wait to see oak's reaction to the special room. Also later on i would like to see Oak make 3 new characters each for a different house so Oak can react to the different common rooms.

Oh wow. I just started the video and hoped he got there sooner. I might need to skip ahead. I love watching him play and discover new stuff, but it's tough watching someone struggle through puzzles when you know the answer.

Once you sell an item, it automatically unlocks the 'look' for it forever.
You can unlock more gear inventory slots by completing Merlin Trials.
Without spoilers, youll want to save every bit of gold you can to unlock important things later in the game. Most times youll find a new piece of gear with higher stats just by exploring.
The chests with the eye on them that jump & can be opened if they cant see you before you approach.
That damn chime drove me insane for most of the game so i turned it off & went by my vibrating controller instead 😅
Can't wait to watch this episode! For selling stuff: your gear slots are limited so make sure to sell everything once in a while and just keep the things you're wearing. This is possible with every vendor in the game so not only in Hogsmede, the icon on the map are the coins. When looking at the wares you can switch to sell (I think with the RB button) and then sell the items. Most of all just enjoy this world! Don't rush the missions but take your time, I'm glad you're liking the game thus far!
Very much so on taking your time and learning as many spells as you can. You’ll learn spells from professors and other characters in the game. Don’t rush to finish the main story, try to finish side quests because some of them teach you spells that are essential to surviving the main quest tasks.
All the frustrations and joy from figuring out something frustrating is exactly what we all go through and is part of the reason why we watch you is because everything you do and go through is so relatable. And yes we do yell at the screen sometimes trying to tell you what to do but honestly we are usually too busy laughing our butts off because we have literally done the same thing and it feels good to not feel alone :)
I can't relate. I read the quest objectives. If I see a torch I immediately think of fire. Even if it doesn't look like a torch to me I would try other spells first. Maybe I'm in the minority there idk. Either way I still enjoy watching him

@@joshuasimber8588- some people aren’t gamers, aside from one type (eg. CoD), so it may take them longer to figure out how things work. There’s also the pressure of trying to play the game, but also being aware that people will be watching it and you don’t want them to lose interest (though most wouldn’t).
Whenever you are frustrated always remember that you are wizard and try to use all your magic skills, it's including inside of Hogwarts as well...Don't worry when you are lost it's fine💕

a few things: 1) you don't need to be at a flue flame to fast travel, just open the map and pick the discovered one you want to travel to, 2) after defeating enemies they usually drop money or potions, so pick them all up, 3) keep buying wiggenweld potions as much as you can until you're able to make it a lot, and 4) once a battle is over you recover health so don't take the wiggenweld outside of battle
Ooh, interesting! I'm playing as a Hufflepuff, and my "Missing Pages" quest was completely different to yours! I had to speak to a portrait instead of Nearly Headless Nick. See, this is why I love this series! Keep going!
Yep, that's one quest that's different for each house, but ends up in the same place. Hufflepuffs go to Azkaban for it, Griffindor's go to Nick's party. I don't remember what Ravenclaws and Slitherins do.
Ravenclaws help out Ollivander about a stolen wand and visit the owlery
Slytherins help out Scrope and go to like a little grotto area.
If you get Legendary clothing items (the background will appear gold), make sure to equip those!

I got myself a copy of Hogwarts Legacy on Christmas Eve cuz of your playthrough - I'm so happy you're making these videos! It's been such a fun game.
Purchased the game myself because of Oak's playthrough. I suspect WB owes quite a few purchases to the big guy!
Doing Merlin Trials open up more gear slots. The more you do them the more gear slots you get so that you don't have to sell or worse, destroy your gear every time you are trapped in a quest you can't leave.
➡️ IMPORTANT; You have to go to your Challenge page and claim your reward by clicking on the reward. Otherwise you won't get it. So it's important. All rewards for completing challenges must be claimed by clicking on them. That includes new gear slots. If the reward is gear outfits, after you claim it then you will find that reward in Appearances in your Gear page. Just hover the cursor over the categories and at the bottom of the pop-up you will see the words "Change Appearance". Click on that and you will see your reward that you already claimed in your challenge page. 👍

1. Every merlin trial is technically different but they all use spells in various ways to complete them. That first one is just to light all the cauldrons with incendio before time runs out. There are SO MANY trials but you need to do them to be able to expand your gear slots. The one thing I struggled with the WHOLE game was my gear slots being full between selling things off. so complete the trials as you see them and for goodness sake buy and grow mallow sweet when you get to that point in the game.
Glad you're enjoying the game dude FYI Xbox should be getting the haunted hogsmeade story Quest on the 1 year anniversary, it had been a PlayStation exclusive since launch I for one have been looking forward to this story quest which is why I haven't fully completed the game by now I wanted to have the complete experience!
You'll soon realize this game is basically just you solving everyone's problems for them and completing tasks they could easily do themselves since they just stand around and wait for you to accomplish them 😂

I swear I go on leave, tell the office staff I'll be on leave, turn on out of office replies saying I'm on leave but I still get not just work sent to me but follow up reminders said work is overdue for completion even though they would get a "Person is on leave" for both the initial email and follow up email.

I love that Oak is still petting all of the potential professor cats. I was petting them all too, sometimes I levitate them just to mix it up now.
I did like the developers response to the cat catapault videos. A joke animation of some cats being programmed to use protego then avada kadavra if you use spells on them.
I would die for this man. Always so wholesome in both movie reactions and now playing through HL!

Helping hand here...
-When you are tracking quests, some quests (like the ones you get from Teachers) don't have a specific PLACE to do them, therefor you can do them WHILE doing other Quests...
-Also, important, use Revelio whenever you are looking around, not simply when looking for Field Guide Pages. ie, When you were looking for the Rotten Beef in the Kitchen, or when you were trying to find the headless chap in the pumpkin Patch.
-Another helpful fact, whenever you see an item that is BLUE (when using Revelio ) it indicates a part of the environment that can be interacted with. And if there is an Item that is highlighted with white might indicate that Magic can be used on it... (this would help in the area around 1:50:00 in your video)
-Also, Keep up to date with your Challenges. Some Challenges when unlocked will help with your character stats (especially the Merlin Trials Challenges)
-Also with the Challenges, they are additive, so the typically the first Tier of challenges will require you to do a certain number of tasks (ie, find 5 field guide pages in Hogsmeade), then the next tier will ask you to find a greater number (ie, 8 MORE field Guide pages),... and this will continue until the last challenge which will require you to find the Remaining field guide pages... OR defeating enemies, or Whatever the challenges are.
51:44 the bell noise when you do revelio means there are chests, Merlin trials, etc. not just field guide pages. When you are walking around and hear the wind chime/bell noise randomly that means there is a field guide and you need to cast revelio. I’ve noticed that you don’t recognize the wind chime when you are walking around and you are missing out on field guide pages!

The Hecat quest description specifically tells you it will not guide you. You're supposed to engage in a fight to accomplish requested feats. Enemies can be found basically anywhere in the open areas (red triangles on the mini map). Also, very general advice but your troubles with quests and mini games that are pretty easy (when you learn a spell you also learn its uses in the game) come from not paying attention to the environment. When you're doing quest listen to NPCs, study the environment, try out the spells you have on highlighted objects (they turn blue when you cast Revelio) and don't quit the game in the middle of a quest. You get confused when reenter the quest after a while because the instructions you were supposed to hear to help you were already given and will not be repeated.

So much fun watching oak really invested in this beautiful game. Thank you for this, really looking foreward on how this adventure is gonna play out!
Couple of pointers that will help:
-During quests when you’re searching for something, you’ll notice a purple circle on your minimap. Whatever you’re looking for will be located within that purple circle
-Use revelio even during quests/mini games to help hint at what you need to do. For example, during the headless hunt if you used revelio, it would have highlighted the pumpkins Jackdaw’s head was hiding in.

The suggestion is too late but for other Gryffindors who have not done the Search for Richard Jackdaw quest yet and who are watching this video;
When it comes to the pumpkin blasting task in order to find Richard Jackdaw is you had to pay attention to the pumpkins themselves. You can tell where the head is by watching which pumpkin is wiggling. When the head is revealed you had to see where the ghosts took the head next. You were just blasting the same exact ones over and over and over again because the pumpkins kept reappearing after you blasted them. LOL! 🎃
You can also just cast Revelio and it’ll show where it is.

Don't feel like you need to rush. It's easy to feel frustrated when you feel like a puzzle may be difficult to figure out but, like someone else mentioned, just chuck every spell at it and if none work maybe you haven't got the one you need yet. One tip I would say, with the cauldrons you did use incendio initially but you were too far away so I think you discounted it for a while. You need to be close to some of them. And another [cheeky] tip for field guide pages: If you find one in an area but can't figure out exactly where it is instead of casting Revelio over and over you can use Lumos (works better at night) which will cause to page to shimmer the same as using Revelio 🤫 😉 With the field guide pages you'll want to do them as you go along, but I wouldn't hyperfocus on them. Merlin trials are more important. As you've most likely noticed field guide pages are basically on or near things like buildings, pictures, random objects etc. And lastly, even though you didn't get what you needed from that fight, practice practice practice. No fight is a bad fight. And you did really well, especially now you're getting Protego & Dodge down. And also remember when you learnt how to be sneaky going into the restricted section with Sebastian, you can definitely get the upper hand with a group of Ashwinders.

You are doing fine play at your own pace. That’s how you figure it out the best. The fighting challenges are totally optional but they do give good XP if u can pull them off. U GOT THIS! Lol. Great vids!
Sell anything with Red stats, keep the stuff with Green. Also every item you acquire creates a visual log of it. So even if you don't wear it for the stats and you sell it, the visual look of it is saved so you can still use that "look" but get better gear/stats. I hope that made sense.
Word to the wise, you should be constantly replacing your clothes/armor as you obtain stronger/cooler options. As you do this, you will also need to constantly sell off ALL unused clothing. Except for that orange dimmed out one (the last you you sold). That one you should have kept. It was stronger than what you had equipped except you needed to wait one level up before it unlocked and lit up for you.
Always stop what I'm doing and watch your Hogwarts Legacy playthroughs whenever I get a notification! Hope you're enjoying the game and can't wait for more!
yay im really enjoying your very modest and humble playthrough lol also love the reactions you give.
if the object is highlighted, make sure you use every spell on them at least twice to make sure it wasn't the right one, some have a range as you found out.
I would also advise to use flooflames more often. Running around in your immediate area for treasure and pages is great but if you're going from region to region like Hogwarts to Hogsmeade - use flooflames.
For gear I never had to buy anything from the shop, just wear whatever comes your way naturally from quests and treasure chests. Money isn't really important overall but you tend to spend it in large chunks at a time at certain points of the game so you want as much of it on hand as possible.
Also, if you want an answer as to how to solve the door puzzles with the animals and numbers I'll post the solution at the bottom of this post.
SPOILER for puzzle solution:
The puzzles involve basic math. The animals each represent a number from 0 - 9. It's really easy to see which animal represents which number since these are always around the door frame itself. And it's always the same animal for the same number no matter which door. You're just trying to equal the center large number of the equation. By each one of these doors, there are panels you can spin on the wall nearby/around the corner, etc. that will display animals. Using the numbers and animals they give you, you can figure out what's supposed to be the animal for the third number/question mark. Hope this helps!
Grew up with Harry Potter and I think my favorite part of playing this game was seeing all the spots and comparing them to scenes in the movie, like the trio running down the steps to Hagrids hut, etc. There are videos/tik toks that people made comparing the scenes to the game. Someone even does them with the books. It is very nostalgic. So many feels. They did amazing with the scenery and graphics. Sometimes I just stand on the hill top and stare at the Castle, it is beautiful scenery.
So excited to see this around Christmas! FYI incase you were wondering about Jackdaw’s pumpkin “strategy,” whatever pumpkin Jackdaw was in ‘wiggled a bit’ so you would have seen one stood out a bit different from the others!
After you kill things - mongrels, eventually trolls/goblins/dugbogs, be sure to collect whatever is left over from them - they have helpful ingredients for potions later!
Also your Q about the pages: when they ask for 1 of 8 or 1 of 15 pages, those just unlock the different tiers of what you can get some completing those. Basically mini goals for yourself! No need to break your neck over it but keep your eyes peeled for the shiny pages on ANY new places you enter or anything cool (paintings, doorways, statues). I noticed you missed just a few while you were talking to nearly headless Nick going to the kitchen
Also, a trusted Revelio shows the pumpkin Jackdaw is currently in).

Tip, always carry around a lot of wigginweld potion. I say carry 20. Learn as many spells as you can before you progress with the main story line. anywhere you can buy things like potions you can also sell gear you don’t really have to go to hogsmead to sell gear. Even if you sell you will still have the clothes available to wear. Change into the highest gear before selling then sell all the rest. You can hide your gear and still have the defense and the offense of what you were wearing.
Yes, I wanted to leave the same advice, Oak! You're definitely going to want to stock up on wiggenweld potions before you get into the next quest! You can buy them a few different places, but the most obvious of J Pippin's in Hogsmeade.
I think it should be said, that there should be no shame in it if you need to use an online guide to solve some of the puzzles. There are going to be a lot of them, and they do keep getting harder. I can admit to using them myself when I have gotten stuck on a few puzzles. It is definitely fun at first to try and figure it out yourself, but it's not that fun any more if you get stuck and frustrated. And having fun is the goal.
For puzzles, such as the one with jackdaw's head, If you had used revelio, it would have illuminated which pumpkin it was in. Revelio is very useful when you're stuck in a puzzle.

I wouldn’t say you shouldn’t but try not to run so much, because you are passing a lot of things you could collect, specially on your way to hogsmead, or in the outside the castle, pretty much everywhere lol, and when you do rebellion, yes the chime tells you there is something, but if you turn around and focus on the environment you will se the silhouette of the page as you walk closer, we are enjoying these videos, don’t feel like you are in a rush, ❤

Hey Oak! Love the playthrough so far. In terms of the field guide pages, if you check your map, each town or area (hogwarts, hogsmeade, etc) will have a count of how many total field guide pages and treasures are in said area. The collection challenges just give you rewards whenever you collect a certain amount. Hope this helps!

The class cut scenes are some of my favorite pieces of this game. I am not a huge combat person but enjoy the fighting in this game.
One thing I've not seen anyone mention is the flags on the pause screen map. When viewing Hogwarts through the pause screen map, some of the flags are colored in black rather than the usual white. This means there is a sidequest in that specific "section" of the castle!
FYI, incendio is like a shotgun: it only works at close range. That’s when a good combo comes in. Try to pair it with accio to bring enemies close before setting them ablaze.

I haven't played the game myself, but from what I can see watching you play, the Field Guide Pages always refer to the object they're next to. So look out for landmarks of sorts, sculptures, impressive furniture, that sort of stuff.

You don’t have to be at a floo powder to fast travel you can fast travel from anywhere to any spot if there is a floo powder spot. Also anything clothing wise (if it’s red it does less help than what you have, if it’s green it’s better) sell any red items and keep whatever has best defense, all clothes you find will remain in the change appearance tab.
You figuring out how to sell your clothing and how to change the appearance was so satisfying. I've been obsessed with getting gear and having my school clothes, then my going out clothes, then my exploring clothes lol

Oak was sorted into Hufflepuff, chose Gryffindor, sometimes makes some "Slytherin" choices, but it's clear he's not a Ravenclaw lol.
The pumpkins wow 😮 😁 I'm a little jate for new episodes but wow, and here we tell you to use revelio all the time but here you are destroying all pumpkins 😂 it was fun so don't worry, but I for sure scream at the screen revelio!!! Haha
The quest of looking underwater for something I suggest you postpone that until you get to a quest where you are able to buy your own room and then you can fly over the water in and get out of the water
One huge tip: the eyeball chests, use the disillusionment spell out of sight from the chest and then sneak up on them and open. This will give you a big surprise reward!

When going in challanges in the menu you forgot to claim prizes because you scroll to fast... take your time by chrcking all the boxes and see if it says claim prize or something like that since I played it in Spanish and its writte in another lenguage..Also you went into shops where you did not look good around and there were more field guides so even if you found one, there could me more than one. Also, there are 55 field pages in hogsmade, when you go in the map, of each sección: hogsmade, hogwarts etc on the top right you see what you can collect and how many ♡

Hi Oak, make sure you loot the monsters and wizards you defeat. They drop loot
For the Dugbog (Giant Toad) you were trying to fight in the water. It's best to get on solid land and fight them. They will come to you during battle. There are challenges for fighting certain enemies. You have to time spells to perform particular attacks to complete an enemy challenge. Different enemies have their own unique ways to defeat them easier.
For example: Time accio or levioso when Dugbogs (Giant Toad) stick their tongue out or pounce at you to flip them on their backs. The spell has to be cast at the right moment. The under bellies are more vulnerable. Attacking them quickly while they are still on their backs increases damage rather than attacking when they are on their feet.

Just wanted to say that there are lots of side quests dotted around. Keep a look out for people with the grey shields above their heads like grace near the lake. They are side quests. There are lots of them, they also show up on the map as grey sheilds also. Great playthrough oak! Really enjoying it 😊
That's it Oak... If you go to a school with that amount of land and you're a teenager/ older pupil (prefect)! There would be night excursions going down on the daily! So going for a lake swim with peers would most definitely be on the agenda! Along with kitchen raids and checking out the other houses common rooms and staff rooms! You just have to be a ninja and try not getting expelled!😆 BTW, when you say "this is starting to piss me off!" cracks me up mate, because it's soooo relatable man! We've all been there in a game and there's nothing else you can do but vent at a monitor! Then you figure it out and you just keep going... but that's gaming man! There's many a conversation been had about that specific task, so welcome to the club mate! Great game play man... and well done for not giving up on the pillar task from the jump!🤙✌🙏
you don't have to find a floo powder to fast travel. all you have to do is open your map and choose the floo powder you want to travel to. the ones that are green are the ones you discovered, the grey ones you need to discover first to use them.

Someone may have told you this already oak but when items or coins appear on the right side of the screen that means they have been already added to your inventory/gear. You also shouldn't worry too much about opening any chests because no one will call you out or double take you doing so! You can just loot away!
