    So if you're trying to maximize for ignition cut sound (braps) on the G42 platform here are my magic numbers:
    1-2 + 20
    2..6 + 25
    7..8 + 35
    To produce the sound reliably you need to be on full throttle at at least 4K rpm regardles of ignition cut settings.
    As an exercise I've spent months and probably 50+ flashes dialing in the torque reduction settings on my '23 G42 with the purpose of maximizing the ignition cut brap sounds. I can tell you +4 is too low if that is your goal. The reason I've had to spend so much time is that getting the sound is quite finnicky. Too little and it sounds closer to what we hear in this video And not to knock Mevans here, but his ignition cut sounds are practically nonexistant compared to what it's capable of. You'll know you've applied too much torque reduction when your turbo sounds like a large deflating balloon (kerplumbpffff) so the solution isn't to just slide everything to the right either (not to mention you'll really feel the lift shift, trust me on this).
    Granted if you're looking for pre-emission update G20 ignition cuts, you won't be able to get that obnoxious without an actual BM3/MHD tune and anyone who knows anything about post '20 BMW tuning is that you have to send your ECU for an all expense vacation to finland. Most of my tuning was done before the new ignition cut control setting, and it seems that torque reduction has the greatest impact on the brap sound. The new setting hasn't really helped that much b/c I think there needs to be a certain amount of boost for the ignition cut to actually produce audible sounds.
    Personally I haven't noticed that many issues with shift smoothness but to be honest I'm usually blasting around town in the manual mode. First gear you can get actual ignition cut sounds with as little as +10 iirc. The rest of the gears it's harder to produce the sound. Also I find the ignition cut sounds are loudest right after the car exits the cold start mode, but the exhaust is warmed up just right. At that sweet spot I can even get single gunshot pops downshifting as early as possible shifting from 4-3,3-2.
    I've been trying to get some footage of my car for bimmerpost, but my phone doesn't really pick up sounds well (more wind sounds than anything). By the way my car is completely stock so far except for an MPE.

      @mevans8646  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Interesting insight. I believe there’s some differences between the F and G chassis though, because I’ve seen lots of people with really high torque reduction numbers trying to get the shift sounds, and it made little to no difference. There’s definitely a lot that goes into it and it’s very finicky. My +4 reduction was simply to tweak the “feel” of the shifts, not necessarily to increase noise. I kept them consistent throughout testing trying to isolate the difference made by the new settings.

    • @BennettRedacted
      @BennettRedacted Před 7 měsíci

      @@mevans8646 Yeah you can't just slide everything to the right to get the sounds. You'll just get that kerpumbfff defalting baloon sound and a ultra lurchy shift. The sounds are a byproduct of the ignition cut and you basically need to guess the numbers. Like your margin of error is like within 3.5 percent. Like for gears 2.. 6 if you go with less than +23 or greater than +27 it can mess with both the consistency and volume of the sounds. First gear is pretty easy to get the sound though. Feel free to give my settings a try and see how it turns out.

      In the clips with the ignition cut, I had MHD brap turned off. I still kinda have one though I think because I’m an M-lite, you can hear the difference in my “before” video at the beginning I note that it had the MHD short brap. With the MHD brap, it definitely interfered with the burbles, but if you turned up the duration (to account for the time it’s brap-ing you should still get some I think.

    • @Y.D.43210
      @Y.D.43210 Před 7 měsíci

      @@mevans8646 Thanks for the quick response. For me the thing is my burbles and gunshots come from MPPSK, I have them all set to off in MHD (which takes over the MPPSK settings). When I had brap on, even when there was no audible brap (e.g. when letting off of the throttle), there were no burbles. Which was annoying so I had to turn brap off.
      Curious what will happen with ignition cut from xHP without changing anything in mhd. I do have that brrrp sound when changing gears now but only in Comfort and higher RPMs (I.e. stick to S). None in Sport or Sport+ due to the faster shifts I guess…

      Yes. You slide the torque reduction slider into the minus scale, start with 5% increments until you are happy with the noise and shift speed. The transmisssion will shift gears faster when you go lower into the torque reduction and your car will accelate faster too since you don't lose momentum between gearshifts.

    • @BennettRedacted
      @BennettRedacted Před 7 měsíci

      So when a car is upshifting there are multiple methods of torque reduction. The three main ways are throttle reduction, retarding timings, and ignition cut. What xHP does is enable the ability for the TCU unit to request a torque reduction to the ECU telling it to cut the ignition of the spark plugs. This usually ends up causing gasoline to combust in the turbo/exhaust which is what causes the sound. Ignition cut sounds (brap) are the byproduct of ignition cut. Does that slightly increase wear on those components, yes. Technically you're saving your clutches in your car however.
      The whole reason ignition cut is prominently employed in DCT systems is that it's my understanding that the clutch plates are meant to snap shut as fast as possible as slippage causes excess wear. Ignition cut is a well established torque reduction method and has been a stock feature of the previous generations of the G42 platform e.g. the G20. If it weren't for the emissions crap we'd probably have the same pops and bangs as the G20 actually.
