  • Just got a new bow and wanted to take the first few shots with it to see how it feels. This is the first ILF bow that I've bought and I have to say that I love it so far. I do have some new arrows coming that I'm going to make specifically for this bow so I won't be shooting it much until they get here...which should be in the next day or so. On a side note...I also ordered fletching tape for the first time to try it out....Does anyone have experience with it? If so what are your thoughts? I hope everyone stays safe and healthy this year and as always thanks for watching!

Nice bow mate.....it was a toss up between the samick....but I went for the win&win black elk.....I live in kent in the uk......just getting into it after a few years break, used to shoot trad longbow.....but this time decided to get a recurve...and form me back muscles again(55..I'm a bit of a old arse lol)but noticed your arrows seem to be moving a little bit on the plate....I have the same problem....not trying to teach you to suck egg's...and by no means wish to offend you....little tip is to get a cotton bud,cut the ends off and stick it under the plate material just at the side of the arrow with a bit of super glue.....doesn't half make a difference as to stop the arrow from wobbling, happy shooting bud👍🏻

I'm glad I found your channel. It's been fun binge watching your vids. I always steer my new recurve archers (4H and JOAD) to the sage.

Thanks for the kind words. And I agree that the Sage is the perfect beginners bow....very forgiving and comfortable to shoot! I'll always keep it around.

Nice bow! i picked one up a year or so ago myself, but using the long limbs for a 62" AMO. You might find that you need to build your sideplate out a bit more, it is made well past center. I just went with a Beat Weather Rest stick-on. It seems to do pretty good. Recently I purchased the Hoyt Satyori riser, and I'm using my Samick R3 limbs, that is working out fine. Good shooting!

How do you like the discovery compared to your super Kodiak and have you shot a satori or bear takedown

The discovery is an awesome bow! I think it shoots far quicker than the SK but is a little bit more noisy. I'm going to get some 35 pound limbs for the bow...when I bought it I was younger and stronger and was more comfortable shooting the heavier poundages. The Bear take downs that I've shot are the 76er and the minute man...both great bows but the discovery is better in my opinion. I have never shot the Hoyt or any of the high end Bear takedowns.

@@Retired_Rambler thank you for your honesty and candor I really think I would be completely happy with discovery but Hoyt is American made and I’m a union pipewelder but if I spend 8or 900 on satori I might as well spend a thousand and get the bear but the Ilf intrigues me for the switch out as I age nd I am not sure I want to bang around in woods with an awesome bear scratching it up and what not

What kind of side plate are you using and is it the right thickness?

    • @Retired_Rambler

That's just an old piece of thick leather that I glued on there and it was fine as far as thickness. It's one of my better shooting recurves now.

I thought about getting one of the Hoyt's....just a little pricey for me. And you are certainly a much stronger man than me....50 pounds is about all i want to handle with recurves! I pull 70 with the compound but of course you only hold a fraction of that at full draw....I couldn't accurately do 65 pounds with a recurve....good for you!
