And the case I got has now almost doubled in price but for just over £20 it's still a amazing price for the case to mount the tablet I've added a link to what looks to be the same as mine please check it will fit your tablet and don't just click buy.

I was about to spend £1500 on a chart plotter before lockdown. I'm so glad I didn't. We have Navionics on our 2 mobiles and son's tablet. It's absolutely brilliant. If you're teccy enough you can cast to a laptop and have it on a really big screen. Plus, we all effectively get to use our own chart plotter simultaneously while at sea. Strangely, the paper charts, compass etc also became far more interesting to my son when he could relate them to his 10" tablet screen!

Great for Poole Harbour. Also have navionics on my phone as backup. My tablet is removable as I use it in my Freelander 2 with Maps Me installed (free) much better satnav than my car and bigger screen.

For iPads, you need to get the one that is labeled as Wifi + Cellular. That is the one with gps in it. Has nothing to do with new or old iPad as even the iPad 1 could do gps if you got the cellular version (called wifi + 3g back then). I used my iPad for navigation and it works great with no add-on gps dongle.

The people at Samsung have no idea about tablets that have the GPS enabled feature to run navionics. My research suggests that the sumsung Tab A model SM-T290 might work or the Dragon Touch K 10" tablet but I can't confirm this with any technical support. Dragon Touch Max 10 - did not work for me! First off - "THANK YOU" to Beach and Boat Fishing for making this video. I hadn't realized this was even an option. I'm working on the device now to enable this on my boat as it will be so much better than navigating from my expensive Garmin unit with 5" screen or from my iphone. Now regarding the Dragon Touch Max 10. I bought a Dragon Touch Max 10 from amazon about 3 weeks ago to do this solution as all my research said it would work for this and reviews said they could do remote navigation using the device. However, I was not able to get it to work remotely without wifi connected at all. It works fine and screen was great with navionics when I had wifi signal. As soon as I turned wifi signal off or was out of wifi signal range, the tablet where we were on the navionics maps. NO matter what we tried, we could not get navionics to work without wifi on the Dragon Touch Max 10. I contacted Dragon and they said that device is an assisted GPS model only and must have Wifi signal in order for the GPS to work. Since I liked the tablet, I then bought an external GPS with hope I could use the Dragon and connect via bluetooth to the Garmin external GPS so I could work around the GPS. The Dragon Touch would not maintain a bluetooth connection to the external GPS antenna so that solution would also not work. Based on this, I returned the Dragon Touch Max 10 as it's advertizing regarding it's GPS capabilities is misleading but I will likely get another tablet like the samsung suggested since we know it works. Good luck with the solution. Having a 10" map is so helpful especially on a budget cost.

@@thesaltyboat9422 Yeah I did, and the internet lied to me. I told the guy in the store that I needed to double-check, cos he couldn't confirm it. Well I looked online and found 2 sites saying yes it had GPS. No, no it doesn't. You need to rip off the cellophane and read the maker's own manual for the specs, because even the Samsung box mentioned nothing about a GPS sensor. My point is you really need to double or triple check, and don't trust websites showing specs. They're not official and make crap up, plus some models do have GPS on the top-end version but the WiFi or smaller memory models don't. Don't presume a major brand name like Samsung and being brand new means it has a real GPS sensor. Most just use cell tower triangulation, with no actual GPS, which will NOT work at sea.
