There 's a few hidden features that I never knew about but found while I was making this video. Watch the video to find out more.
Do give the video a thumbs up if you found it useful. I'll try to answer any questions you ask in the comments section.

UPDATE : JULY 2024.
I'd been using the Navionics Boating App on my old iPad mini however recent updates to the Navionics Boating App mean features like relief shading no longer work on iPads with older that IOS 13 installed. IOS 12 was the latest my old iPad could run. I'm now running a newer iPad Mini 6th Gen which has IOS 17. Hope this helps to update the video.
perfectly concise. many thanks
No problem, glad you enjoyed watching the video.
Great video, I'm a yachtie but all still relevant.
Thanks. If you plan a route or set a waypoint Navionics gives a course to steer and draws a line on the chart to the next way point. As you tack you'll be able to see how far off course you go. The track log should zig zag across the course to steer. I'm a dinghy sailor too.
Thanks for going through this - a great help - cheers Chris
Thanks, I’m glad it was helpful. Stay safe out on the water wherever you are. Phil
very nice presentation
Thanks a lot. Hope the content was help, stay safe out on the water.
No stone left unturned! As a long term user of Navionics as a shore angler, I have learned a lot from your incredibly thorough break down of the app! Many thanks Phil!
You're most welcome, it's an app I wouldn't be without. I understand some of the more expensive chart plotters also use Navionics software. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for all your guidance and the informative video.
Happy to help, thanks for taking time to comment. Phil.
Absolutely fantastic, Very helpful. Thank you very much.
Glad you found it helpful. I’ve a video out later today showing me navigating to a mark out on the water.
Excellent and informative video! Well done and thank you so much
Thanks very much I'm glad you found it helpful. Enjoy your boating. Phil.
Thanks for this. I've been using it for a while , and found a few great new things I can use. Thanks for a great effort.
Hi, no problem, glad you've managed to get some tips from the guide. I like the Navionics app, it works just fine for me.
Thanks for that mate.
This will be a very a useful video once I get out on the water.
Thanks for taking the time to break it down into laymens terms 👍
Top man 🤝
No problem, plenty of time before the weather gets appropriate for the SIB to be creating a few 'marks' and 'tracks' for future use. Take care on the water. Phil.
Easily the most informative video on this subject been thru loads now know what I’m doing thanks
Thank you very much. That's nice to hear it's helped. Let me know if you have questions and I'll try my best to help.
very informative and plesent chap.. I learned so much .. thumbs up!!!
Thank you very much, I'm pleased to have helped. Enjoy using Navionics, stay safe. Phil
Fantastic explanation Phil of navionics 👍also a great app for finding new marks from the shore for sea fishing and freshwater👌
Thanks Douglas, I found a few things that will help whilst trolling for the Ferox if we do that again this year. Phil.
Excellent video - thanks.
Glad you liked it! No problem 👍
Very good video. One further function i found handy was that using the Tide feature where you can drag side to side through the times, that actually changes the depths on the chart itself. I often have to cross drying areas to get into creeks etc. This feature allows you to see the actual depths as the tide changes. Very handy not to have to calculate that in your head.
Thanks for the comments. I agree, that's a great feature of Navionics. I've been busy using it again on my latest adventure 'Fishing Falmouth 2024'. Great App and really helps for boating.
Quality production and presentation .. well done
Thank you very much, I hope you found it useful. Stay safe out on the water.
Great video I learned a few things there that I never knew where there cheers
Thanks. I didn't mention that you can change the chart and data formats. My head works in metres, litres, knts and nautical miles when I'm on the boat. You can have feet, mph etc. Phil.
Awesome Video Sir, I learned lots of good stuff.
Thank you very much. Good to hear you found the video was helpful.
Hi Ralph from South Wales, good tips, love the videos keep them coming all the best .😁
Hi Ralph, great to have you watching and enjoying the channel, really appreciate your kind comments. Phil.
Thank you very much for a job well done 👍
Glad you found it useful. Was fun making the video and I’m happy to share😎
Nice overview. I didn't realise just how complicated the charts are on Navionics on tablets/phones.
On a dinghy I've been using Savvy Navvy which is much more basic but has some nice features too, especially for smaller boats. This reminds me to probably do a review of that!!!
Hi Dave, I'm not familiar with the Savvy Navvy app. I can recommend Navionics for use on the Lugger. Even if it's on a iPhone in a water proof case the route plotting and course to steer etc would be very helpful in inland water passage planning. Also have a look at the RYA safe trx video I have on the channel. That could be a life saver too. Stay safe on the water. Cheers Phil.
Good job!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful.
Ats a rare setup yiv got Phil 👍 jist e marress o ma plotter, great stuff and very informative video, thanks for posting
Thanks Gordon, good budget set up for a little fishing boat. Handy to be able to create waypoints on my iPhone Navionics app which then sync with the iPad on the boat 👍
@@anotherangleUK Aye its amazing Phil 👍
Very thorough and most informative, Phil. PS tried your Facebook but nothing coming up on the search. 👍
Thanks mate, I don't have Facebook. I do have an email on the channel and an Instagram account. Look forward to hearing from you. Phil.
Totally brilliant shows how s** t I was many thanks
Glad you got something out of the video. I really want to do a similar video for the Garmin Striker 4 fish finders I use on the boat and kayak.
Really informative, need your suggestion sir, I have purchased a navionics mobile subscription for Indian Ocean but I'm not able to use relief shading although relief shading option is available but not getting detail information . No Overlay and relief shading both shows same information no detail features . Plz help me to get the access for relief shading.
Hi, thanks for the comments. The best suggestion I can offer would be to contact Navionics (or other users in your area) and ask if your area has been 'mapped' with the relief shading. I think I read somewhere that this feature may not be available in all locations. Hope this helps and you get it sorted.
@@anotherangleUK Thanks for the reply. 🤝
Great vid - especially for me just getting started ..... and I love your little boat!! what make is it??
Thanks very much. The boat is an Orkney Coastliner 14 foot. Mine is over thirty years old but they are still built new today by Orkney Boats. Great design.
@@anotherangleUK I've had trouble reading the fine print with my youtube menus so I apologies - it was right in your text. I've been using the re;ief shading for several seasons bit have learned aboout its other featires/ Thank you so much for taking the time for creating this video - the people at NAVIONICS owe you a big thank you!! The shading was a great help when I fished out of Brookings, OR where there was a lot of structure - Now I'm going to be fishing out of Westport WA and I see little structure in their local sea bottom until 25 miles West near the canyons. Thank you Thank you!!
Thanks again Don. Just mindful to check any routes that Navionics plots. It's generally very good but occasionally can make a mistake around moorings etc. I find it really good for taking me to a target mark in the middle of nowhere - just goes direct to the mark. Stay safe out on the water and tightlines mate.
Great. But how about the AIS please ???. Regards from Netherlands 🇳🇱.
Hi, for the AIS to work you need a compatible AIS receiver which I don’t have. So it’s not something I can help with unfortunately. Glad you found the video useful.
Ho Phil
What is the name /supplier of the ipad mount? Looks sturdy
Ta
Bob
Hi Bob, thanks for asking the question. It is an iBOLT Tabdock Bizmount AMPs They were about £30 a few years ago. It is sturdy and has stood up to crashing about in the boat. Thanks Phil.
How we can hide the legend from map please?
That’s a good question. I’ll have a look and see what’s possible. Other viewers may have the answer and if so please feel free to add a comment here.
a lot of very good Information there Phil for people that do that, they will find some good spots to fish, well done Thank you,
Thanks, there are so many features on these Apps it has taken a couple of years use to begin to explore everything. It has been good to find a use for the 2011 vintage iPad - hopefully the Navionics team will ensure future updates work with these older devices. Phil.
Absolutely brilliant video definitely one of the best on CZcams went out from Anglesey Saturday just gone 18th may absolutely thick with fog couldn’t see anything and had a problem with my chair plotter which is fixed to the boat if I had known about this sooner, it would’ve been perfect we run a ground twice no damage but quite bad to get back thanks again for brilliant video 👍🏻
Thanks. Take care mate, fortunately you got back safe and without damage to the boat. Fog is very scary stuff when it comes in think n fast. Get Navionics on your phone at the very least as a back up.
