    @PigeonForgeEminentDomain, please take notice that this video is only 8 days old and already has 41k views. I have always loved Pigeon Forge, but this is tainting your reputation with me and only God knows how many thousands and thousands of individuals not even counting their families and the people they have influence with. You stand to lose a lot more than giving this family the right price for this property. PLEASE show the ones of us watching this that you are the wonderful place we have been led to believe. Thank you.

      Pigeon Forge is such a wealthy town. They could afford to pay a fair market value for that house. Or better yet, bulldoze the campground and let the house stand.

      This county has been poisoned with external state influence as well.. too many dirty Sheriff Deputies. All this county wants is your money and talks about you behind your backs..
      The current Mayors don't want to lose their power, believe nothing can happen to them politically as long as they blackmail or acquire different forms of influence and if anyone of you want to pushback in the right way consider a recall of that elective.
      If you own no business here you have no legs to stand on. If you want to live here you better have a lawyer on retainer that's how bad it's become in Sevier County as of 2024.

      @NadeneBeach, why is there a problem making public the name of one of the owners of the campgrounds ? If it is the mayor, then it should be made public. He made public of his moral obligations to the family concerning their property. It shows where his moral obligation truly is. He holds a position in the town to protect the people and their rights. That is where his moral obligations is.

Yet the attorney general is going along with the squabbling between the two casinos, as if it matters! My husband and I were in Gatlinburg last week and we drove over to Pigeon Forge a couple times for dinner. I've always been struck and saddened by Pigeon Forge's suburban sprawl and at the number of abandoned buildings when there are always so many new buildings being erected. We live in the suburbs of Nashville so suburban sprawl, massive tourism and decay are nothing new to our eyes but the Pigeon Forge strip really is an eyesore, in my opinion. It's like the mountains' version of Panama City Beach. Just one attraction/restaurant/store after another, with tons of congestion and one big eyesore that detracts from beauty of beach and ocean. Same for Pigeon Forge, you can't appreciate the surrounding scenery when you're there. As someone who resides in TN and therefore does not pay state taxes I feel guilty when I b!tch about the tourists in Nashville...and also I complained about them last week....even though my husband and I were technically tourists in that area. It's a total love/hate relationship. I felt the same when I lived in St Petersburg, FL. Riding around the Smoky Mountains National Park last week my mind became focused on all of the families and communities that once lived in that area and had their homes and livelihoods taken by the government. Same for the TN Valley Authority and all of the areas that were flooded to create lakes a few generations back. My heart is very heavy for you and I pray this situation turns for your favor somehow.

Disgusting, I live in Pa but we go to Pigeon Forge a lot to vacation but I think I need to reconsider this because that's not how you treat people. If they really want that road to go where your house is then they need to value it correctly and pay you or put the road where it makes sense, through the campground. When it comes to small town politics, like this, so many things have to be considered. The contractor doing the assessing , the contractor that's doing the road, everyone that's in on the plan, are usually part of a good old boys club, where it's "you scratch my back, ill scratch yours. There is more than likely kick backs for the people doing hiring. That's more normal than it's not in small town politics, so once the ball gets rolling, it's pretty hard to stop it

    I really feel what you're going through. My grandparents were threatened with Eminent Domain back in 1965. My ancestors moved to Eastern Kentucky right after Daniel Boone opened up the Cumberland Gap. They received land grants for service in the American Revolutionary war--that's how long this property was in my family's ownership. It was divided over generations between the sons and by the time my grandfather inherited his portion of the land, he received 158 acres along the Big Sandy River in the back hills of Pike County. But someone decided there should be a dam built to control flooding along the river banks. So the Army Corp. of Engineers came in and offered my grandfather a fraction of what the property was worth, being it had a large waterfront edge. My grandfather asked for time to call his grown children and seen their advice, and they countered with, "If you don't accept this offer right now and move within 30 days, we will invoke Eminent Domain and you won't see a penny. We will condemn your property and you'll get nothing for it." So my grandfather signed the document, and my grandparents found a tiny cabin on a 2 acre lot--if it was that big, which I doubt. He not only lost his business, he lost all the income from his crops and his barber shop equipment. I was only ten years old, but I was spitting mad! My relatives looked into it, but because they forced him--threatened him--into signing the contract, there was nothing to be done after that. My grandfather's house was a large, two story building that he and his sons built together before the Depression, and it looked just like the house on The Waltons. And what happened to us, happened to one of the Walton Characters--Aunt Martha Corinne Walton. I've actually shown the actors pictures of my grandparents' home, and they were amazed at how similar the two houses were. The area where my grandparents lived was a productive coal mining area and many of the mine executives rented rooms at my grandparents' house and Mamaw cooked delicious meals for them. This was not a wooden shack--it was the best home in the area. Then they decided not to build the dam, and sold it to a frozen vegetable company to grow greens. I saw it with my own eyes. So said.

    All property in TN is considered eminent domain eligible. The TN government can take a property as long as three things are in play. 1. The property acquired must be taken for a “public use;” 2. The state must pay “just compensation” in exchange for the property; 3. No person must be deprived of his/her property without due process of law. Now in this case you stated that the property was zoned as commercial. That should have been your first red flag. A commercially zoned property with a house on it seems like the prior owner new the road was going in and they rezoned the property and then found out that the location of the road was going to be moved and sold the property before the official word. I purchased a house here in NC about 7 years ago. When I was looking I found a very nice house in a gated community that surrounded a large lake and had a amazing golf course on it. The price was great and I started to think something was up. After a little research I found that the spillway on the lake was in need of repair and that no one wanted to repair it and there was a possibility that the lake would have to be drained in order to avoid a down river flood if the spillway failed. I passed on the property and a year later they had to drain the lake. This resulted in the house around the lake loosing 50 to 60 percent of their value. So $800,000 lake front properties were now worth $300,000 to $400,000. A lot of people decided to abandon these house and have them foreclosed on rather than pay a $800,000 mortgage on a $400,000 on swamp land now. The point is, do your research before buying.

    So many families here in Sevierville who were born and raised here who have had the same experience with their only home being sold or auctioned off to overnight rentals or for some type of expansion for tourism . These are homes and/or land that have been passed down through generations. It is nearly impossible to find a decent monthly rental to live in and grow our families while preparing to buy a home is a major issue at this time. What’s really hard is just praying for a home somewhat close to where we work here and school as well. It’s almost to the point that all of the locals who were living and working in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have had to relocate to surrounding counties and commute to work daily. It’s really sad. For ex this year because of someone who bought a lot and turned it into a car coral mistakenly thinking everyone would just stop doing what we have always been allowed to do and buying, selling and trading cars on the strip to instead pay him extremely high fees to do so out of his lot , now those in his pocket have passed an ordinance making it illegal to sell, buy or trade anywhere but his lot! I hope you get the justice you deserve against these crooks but sadly unless you take it outside PF those now in power there will likely make certain they get what they want no matter who they commit injustice against They have ruined PF .We refuse to go spend thousands in the town this Rod Run and many who have been going for decades will not be there either because of dirty politics and money grab by a few

    I would find out if the prior owners of the property knew that the house was going to be taken by eminent domain. Perhaps they had the inside scoop from the planning commission, and if they did, and that was not disclosed at the time of the sale, then you are entitled to compensation. Also, perhaps the mayor knew the prior owners of that property because he lives right above it, and he told you that he felt terrible watching you renovate the property. He may have warned them to sell that property before they lost it to eminent domain. It’s worth investigating the relationship between the mayor and the prior owner. Trust me when I tell you, the planning of that road has been in the works for a long time, and the mayor knows exactly when the project was going to start, and where.

As far as I’m concerned 90% of all city council’s are dirty especially in small towns because no one really shows up for the meeting and when something pops up the the residents don’t approve of it’s already to late because it has been approved by the board! My city council hates me and they have the cops Watching me. My little town had the same thing happen involving a camp ground and it really pissed me off that they threw alittle over a million bucks at this place and the city has a covered bridge and it’s 1 of 9 left standing on the state of Ga. Beside that bridge is the foundation of a grist mill. What idiot builds a Campground when you have history that needs preserved like that??? What really got the board unglued is when I found a track of land across the street from me that the city owns and the appraisal wasn’t even in the ballpark of what it was worth! Not only that the track next door to it was less than one acre than the city’s but the appraisal difference was $900K less for that track! It blew their mind when ask about the bogus appraisal, not only that I got in contact with the owner of that property and informed him about the goings on with the corrupt city council. As someone who owns property in rural Kentucky and Ohio we wish places like pigeon forge didn’t exist at all. We wish all these people from out of state buying up property to rent it out to other out of state people would just go somewhere else, buy your property in Florida, Virginia Beach , the Carolina’s. Leave Kentucky, Tennessee and southern Ohio alone

    • @Aprilmomof2

      I'm having a hard time feeling bad for her. She is in Ohio. She bought up affordable housing that LOCALS need in PF. They use it for S-T-R profit. Now, possible small-town corruption has declared imminent domain over the property (that they don't live in). Personally, I think both parties are wrong in different ways. Also, a little hypocrisy showing. I mean, the reason for the growth is because of people like her. Native Tennesseans are getting priced out. Native Georgians are getting priced out. Native Hawaiians are getting priced out. Same in AL, FL, etc etc etc. My small town has become a tourist town. They are trying to price us out. Know what's happening? Businesses close because they don't have workers. Why? Because they can't afford to live close by anymore. They can't afford to commute either. So they leave. Then, rent for the small businesses keeps climbing because everyone is running on GREED these days. Karma.

    Hate to see this , we got relocated from eminent domain in Gallatin , TN.
    However , you’re lucky you found out in a year.
    Try 15 years !!!
    We bought our house in 1995. In 1999 they announced the road project. We had plans to move in 2000. It took years before they began meetings and we were stuck in that house until 2014.
    Then took almost a year to get us bought out. We didn’t get to move until January 2015.

    • @skipjenn
      @skipjenn Před 4 měsíci +3

      The negotiations are ran by companies hired by the state or city so obviously they don’t have your best interest in mind.
      In our case , we had gotten word that it was going to be a few years. So we added on - turned a 3 bedroom into a 5 bedroom home , not that big but worked great for what we thought would be a few years.
      Years dragged on and on until almost 2012 when the state of TN finally got the project going , so nearly 12-13 years of waiting and attending meetings.

    • @skipjenn
      @skipjenn Před 4 měsíci +2

      The negotiations weren’t anything more than a “ take it or leave it “ with an attitude.
      The most comparable house they could find was a 3 bedroom with a finish room in the basement. Their appraiser deemed our house to only be 4 bedrooms and not 5.
      Luckily , home values had gone up considerably since 1999 and 2002 when we added on. So we did make out pretty good and got extra for moving expenses.
      It took the state 2 more years to begin , so around 2017 maybe , then a few years of construction for a 1 mile connector. It finally opened a few years ago.

    • @skipjenn
      @skipjenn Před 4 měsíci +3

      Keep up the fight !
      Super disappointed to hear they dropped the ball so badly.
      And obviously they are protecting the campground since local leaders are part owners.

    • @skipjenn
      @skipjenn Před 4 měsíci +3

      Lastly
      Did you have to get permits and inspections ? There might be some issues there as well being that inspectors allowed you to do work.

    • @skipjenn
      @skipjenn Před 4 měsíci +2

      If you did get permits - you could try to do a FOIA request for any paperwork and Emails pertaining to your property. Might get lucky and find some internal emails that showed they knew about the road.

This doesn't seem to matter to these godless men . They want more taxes to pay family who happen to work for the townships involved. They also would want our land for themselves. Don't be surprised that some will be financially ruined just to see creepo mayor or his / her family buy up what's left

    This is so very sad. Unfortunately the world we live in centers around money more than doing the right thing. You have laid it out. The people with the most money win 99% of the time because they pad the pockets of the decision makers. You’re the little people and they don’t care.
