Noon time fire siren in Hawleyville

- We are still in Hawleyville, where we get a pleasant surprise in the form of the noon fire siren above the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Department. I wasn't aware of the time, so I missed a portion of the first wind-up of the siren. The siren is a Federal Signal sth10. In the background, you can hear the turbocharged 645 of Housatonic Railroad GP35 3604 as it revs up while drilling the lumber yard. This video is dedicated to airraidsiren. Enjoy the sounds of the siren and the sounds of the engine. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on January 18th, 2012.

I grew up in a small volunteer fire department. Out siren went down about 5years ago and the town has not allocated funds to fix it. This video brought a tear to my eye and the biggest smile on my face because I don’t get to hear that anymore.
Not talking about brigden by chance same thing happend to my small town. My dogs us to howel to the sound why I'm here looking for it lol
Other sirens: Get in your house! Take cover! Your life is in danger!
This siren: It's lunch time! :D
Don't most places just play it once to determine it from an actual problem
I use this video all the time to make my Boxer howl at the siren. Funny as hell.
So do i
I do it to my chuawawa
the only reason why i am here hehe
I do it to my husky
I do it to my German Shepherds. It is funny as hell. I have a baby and a 8 yr old. The baby sounds so funny!
We had a 12:00 siren, just like this one, when I grew up in the early 60's. The siren was quite a ways away, but I always liked it. Mostly because the only time you would hear it was when you were out of school in the summer! Of course, if I lived near that siren, I might have a different opinion. But for me, I just had a "summer time flashback"!
@@charleBerglund At least our brains operate! LOL, take care my friend.
Same memory, same time frame, but in Burien, Washington. As kids, it meant "OH boy, it's lunchtime!!!
I Heard that just now
I am in a fire department and everytime I hear that bru I’m like structure fire
My dog is so confused. lol. she heard this sound and started barkin'
I live outside of a little village in Wisconsin, and I hear this faintly at noon every day
Growing up in Saukville WI the siren would always sound at noon. I think it was common in other towns as well.
This brings back memories of my hometown. Who I hear still sound the siren once a week for a test. There's just nothing like hearing it echo throughout the river valley.
I heard this in the middle of the night, ran to my basement, thought it was a tornado.
Facts
love that sound. miss not hearing it as I don't live in a small town anymore
The town I grew up in had the same siren and did the noon whistle every day.
Jesus...that sent a real chill right down my spine. Holy fuck.
This haunts my dreams and it had scared the fuck outta me as a child. We had a firehouse down the street from us in Olyphant (by the gas station on N. Valley Ave) and everytime it would go off, I would hide under my covers.
I am going to have nightmares now. :(
Trains, sirens, and fire engines
Sounds like quite a catch
I live 6 miles away from my local fire department with the sth10 siren. I would be scared listening to a q siren right after this siren.
I just heard this, but I live out in the country in no town. It was much louder outside and my cats noticed it too.
if you go forward or backwards by 5 seconds, it sounds like you're tuning a guitar
Im there’s a fire station near my house they play this all the time I hear it a few times a month
THAT IS MORE THAN A NOON TIME! SOUNDS LIKE FIRE TO ME!
This FS STH-10 Gives Me Chills
That brings back good memories as a kid growing up in a small town in northern wisconsin. Every day at noon that would go off. We called it the noon whistle.
Woah nice siren
Remember this as a kid in the 70’s
I've spent time in two towns here in Oregon that mark noon with their fire siren. (Well, did. I don't think the sirens exist anymore. Been replaced by e-technology). Both ran the siren for only one cycle for the "noon whistle." It's interesting that this town does multiple cycles, just like for an actual alarm to call out the firefighters.
I remember those days so long ago Sirens blowing at the fire station when there was a fire somewhere
Especially at night, in the summer with the windows open.
Love the video and love the ringtone on your phone lol
i play this all the time, my beagle howls to it.
Federal Signal STH-10A
Every day in our tiny town this siren goes off about 12:02
My dog loves this shit.
I also got an STH10 siren in Clark's Summit off shady lane road in Clark's Summit right near the tracks
Sounds just like my towels sirens for both fires and tornadoes
I use that sound to pretend like I’m a fireman at home
can't wait our siren is fix
How old is this siren? If I take a guess, it’d be 1940s?
This siren scared me as a kid, like a nuclear war was happening
Oh my God I see engine!
I think I just heard the same sound but in Canada 😂 I had no idea what it was 💀
I just heard this about five minutes ago, it was eerie to hear come it from a little less than 5 miles away in the little town north of us. Must of been a fire as there's no breaking news for our area about a bomb or attack.
Noon test....just a tad of sarcasm....as long at there's not a fire at noon....all will be well!!!
This siron is also used in neet exam starting and then I am scared 😂
Interesting to hear that the fire alarm is 3 wails, the same way we have in germany.
They took our little Firehouse out of commission! They built a new one larger and they went to radios instead of the siren. They went to automatic notification on cell phones for storms. But the city took the small firehouse and made it into a made it into Museum and everyday at noon and 10 p.m. the siren sounds just like it did since it was put in 1930s. Noon whistle test and 10 p.m. was curfew 16 and under. If you were out after 10 p.m. you could be cited with a ticket. LOL of course that doesn't happen anymore but the whistle doesn't know
That siren is a Federal Signal STH-10. Easily the best fire siren ever made.
Technically, the 1003 was a CD siren that could double as a fire siren. STH and other single tone sirens, according to some federal law, were general alarm or fire sirens.
No thunderbolts. Just STH-10s and Model 5/7s. @@amberlynn6914
It looks like a Federal Signal model.
Wooooow........
there are different types of sirens. that is the fire department siren. how i know, because there is one in galesburg, il
I have that siren near where I live!
+Sam Roberts Theres one in glace bay my mom says oh its just the fire siren i say MOM THATS THE FKIN AIR RAID SIREN GO GO *runs out of house*
+Roblox news team haha, sounds like my sister
XD
how to use the sirens depending on the nature of the fire
It's late but... You use it in big fires like a nuclear reactor blew or a oil refinery was set on fire. Also forests fires. So anything big
My toddler asks to put this on when is time for him (soldier) to wash his hands before a meal ❤️ thanks
How neat! Thank you for sharing this with me. I always appreciate nice stories like this :)
we have this siren at my station
also in Zagorze Slaskie in Poland they have it
Would have loved to seen the firemen get to the firehouse.
It was the noon test
Sounds really creepy but nothing will stand your hair up like a Kansas tornado siren. My chocolate lab howling at this lol
That siren was originally from Thomaston Fire Dept and was located on the roof of the old (haunted) firehouse on Main Street. When the roof was re-done it was removed. After a short storage time it was sold to Hawleyville to replace their old model 7 siren which was on a pole that was the original "flagpole" on Main Street in the center of Newtown...see what you learned today!!!
I live just beside one of these things and i goes of every saturday at 12:00 and it's fucking loud
O have this in centerville Maryland
How loud was this?
Wow loud
It would be really great if you went to the FarmVille volunteer fire deptment in FarmVille,va to get the siren going off on the roof of the FarmVille ,va police deptment.
STH-10
This is an STH 10 siren
My grandma has one in her town.
Isn't it something like nuclear meltdown reactor siren?
I have this siren where I live to
Your noon siren runs that long?
I hate when this goes off in my town! I live close to one and its so loud!
Jenna Keith kinda the point, i live 2 miles from my hall, with two hills in the way. On a quiet night or morning, i can hear it from my apartment. We also have a firefighter who lives not eighty feet from the siren. Ain't no way in hell she misses a call.
They blow this thing 8 times for every call in my town. Even if it's not even a legitimate fire
lucky. i wish my fire station did that. absolutely love hearing the sth10 at my local fire dept. echoes are so amazing.
Get used to it sensitive
Cover Your Ears Then
The motor looks like it has a bite mark.
Does this fire siren also serve as a tornado siren?? Does it make different sounds for each? If not, how can you tell a fire emergency from a tornado warning?? 🤔
I used to live in a small town with a siren very similar to this one I don't know how true this is but my parents always told me that it would blow at noon to let the farmers out in the field know that it was lunchtime back in the day. It might have been just a convinient time to test it. However, when it blew a longer tone that was supposed to be a tornado warning and it used to blow as a way to page the firefighters when they had a call go out. Most of that is probably old tradition but when I was a kid it would blow for every fire call. I was also taught that the first man to the station would be the one to turn it off and it would blow until he got there. I don't know how true that is but it always facsinated me as a kid
@@samuelbirkett3954 Thanks for the reply, Samuel!! I grew up in a small town in MA, and we had a fire whistle - the Whistle from Hell. God, that thing was terrifying!! Made the bones go cold. It blew at noon, 5pm (end of the work day) and curfew (9pm or 10pm). For "no school" during winter storms it blew twice then twice again. It blew once for ambulance, five times for the volunteer department. And then for fires: three times to signal a fire was in progress, and then it would blow out the box number for the part of town the fire was in; i.e. Box 24 was two blows, pause, then four blows. But here's the killer: our whistle would blow the box number three times rather than just one time like other town whistles! And when it's the Whistle from Hell ... 😦😯😫
It's the rain🌚
That is the all clear air aid siren
Nope its not. Its the noon test.
Noon test duh
Fire in Williams AZ
I have a fire station right in front of my neighborhood and That just went off all the dogs literally just started barking so loud
Where I'm from there's one wail and that's it for noon

STH 10
Isn't this just a straight air raid siren?
Did anyone respond?
Imagine if you heard this in London in 1940
You wouldent
Derek Centrone let me enlighten you on this little thing called world war two
Londoners would hear it, they just wouldn't have the time to react
Yes you would Derek Centrone
Just get the guns out hi dad
@@tonybarde2572 Actually dumbo, you wouldn't. Its the wrong kind of siren.
The otherworld is coming...
It's sounds like a tornado siren
why an attack signal instead of a single blow for a noon test? ... I guess not all can be the same!
You figure after one blow everyone heard it
Hopefully just a test :P
Read the title kid
that siren look like in mlies city
At the beginning he was railfanning ;-;
thats an STH-10
OK that hurts my ears there!
Yes, it is very much intended to grab your attention. The siren is to call volunteer firefighters in case their pager doesn't work or they don't get the text/active 911 alert. According to the description, this sounds like the neighboring town needed support with a fire, so they called the volunteers for mutual aid.
You need to wear hearing protection to prevent damaging ears
S m s a n t
