I mentioned in the video that this was a final rehearsal. This is incorrect. This footage is a first time runthrough on a field -- which sort of makes it even more incredible that so much of this is still performed at such a high level.
I’m 2 months late but when you said the double time conducting, but that’s called thumping if I’m not mistaken, but holds the same purpose in the fast tempos

Not to dis on the sports fans, but I've always liked watching marching bands perform way more than watching the game.
No offense taken - most traditional sports desperately need to adopt rules to make proceedings less stale and boring, lol

I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's actually quite a few people in the comments asking for DCI/marching band stuff, especially after I did the Blue Devils video months ago, so maybe this won't be the last time I look at this stuff.
Critical Reactions Awesome! Would love to see more! Personally I recommend metal because that’s what I enjoy, and I bet lots of other metal people enjoy sharing and hearing about metal, but other genres are cool too!
Also at 9:00 the drumline is under the prop playing their own thing that's seperate from the ballad which I really find cool and I love it

As a marching drill and visual designer/instructor, I really appreciate that you acknowledge how these shows are designed in a way so visual feeds from the music and music pushes the visual to create something greater than the sum of the parts. How it all fits together to create excitement, emotion, and reaction from the crowd. :)
Man there are some very amazing shows out there in DCI. Star 93, Phantom 96, SCV 89, Cadets 05 etc. I highly recommend The Cadets 2005 show 'the Zone' if you can find the finals performance

This was definitely cool for a change, even more so since you have experience in that world and could explain what's going on.
Fun fact: SCV, the reigning 4 year in a row holder of the best percussion caption award, don’t teach heights. They more or less teach balance of sound. Some people have heavier hands than others, and that’s something that they take into account. Doesn’t necessarily look the best, but it sounds amazing.

That was a trombone but it didn't have a harmon mute, I think part of it was because of the mic quality and the other part was because it seemed like Skatune (The guy who played the baritone solo in the ballad and the trombone solo) has a pretty noticeable tone and his chops were blown at that point of the performance

Absolutely AMAZING reaction! You should TOTALLY react to Blue Devils 2011,2014 or SCV 2017 :). Crown 2016, and 2019 as well (just to name a few)
That damn ramp scared the hell out of me all season, especially after one of the snares slipped on it during the first show. It wasn't until the last guy made it down -- and it was clear they would not win and do an encore run -- that I finally relaxed about it.

Man you haven't reacted to a drum corp in a while, watch 2013 carolina crown finals.. awesome show. And the only time a corp has received a perfect brass score. 20/20
I'll be getting back to some drum corp in the next couple of months, I just gotta get through my Special Selections list so that I have some slots open to explore some personal selections -- like more drum corps stuff.
You missed that the trumpet soloists at the end were using wah-wah (autocorrect sucks) pedals as they played into the mic and you didn’t recognize Zombee Wolf by Frank Zappa as the penultimate song.
Yeah, tour can be at least 5 hours a day with rehearsal days of 12-14 hours, but the Move-in section is about 2-4 weeks of 12-14 hour days, 7 days a week.

The stage is actually just a bunch of curtains on the sides. And seeing POVs of performers, it’s not incredibly spacious, but it fits all of them in/beside it.
There are also microphones for solos and the percussion rumbling in the ballad, and storage for instruments/guard equipment.
I love all the Thank You Scientist riffs

I missed most of that. Out of habit, as soon as the marching band came on I went to the can, made some nachos and a sandwich, and grabbed a beer. Just kidding! 😉 That was really impressive.

I've added them to a DCI reaction folder. I can't promise I'll do another one of these within any time frame but I do plan on checking more DCI out on the channel eventually.

Tip : instead of having the video in the tiny square.. Rather have the actual video cover the screen and you in the corner...
That's not a bad idea for the next time I check out a DCI performance. My only worry is the video being blocked for visual copyright -- which is what led to me using a small corner video.
