  • I thought I had to change the thermostat on my PC, because it didn't seem to heat up. I thought it was stuck open. Turns out it was just cold and this is how it's supposed to function. Anyway; I now have a spare used thermostat and a video to help you figure things out.

The secrets of the ghost on video : The bike is wonderful, but you need I very big dosis of patience, delicacy, and perseverence to do the maintenance on this two-wheeled-beauty. If you pass the plastics exam, you are already a hero.

Glad to see the procedure to uncover the cooling system. Hot pan of water with a thermometer is only way to tell if a thermostat is working correctly or not.

Great video Tim! I am going to change my thermostat on my PC in the near future and it sure helps to see someone else do it first. Yeah man, in cool weather the temp gauge never gets very high but that changes as the seasons get warmer.

Too bad you went to so much trouble & discover the thermostat was fine. But you did a great video on how to remove the plastics, which is quite helpful. So, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm looking forward to seeing more PC800 videos from you on other projects.
I need to pull the forks on my 89' to replace a leaky seal. Maybe I'll get motivated to do it over the Winter.

Terrific vid! Thanks. I'm experiencing that same "needle stays low in (even) cool weather" on my '95 PC. Only gets to middle in stop and go. Trouble is on my '94 PC the thermostat worked perfectly, and in any weather, the needle came up to proper operating temperature! Go figure. Think I'll replace it anyway. I ordered the part after all! Hah!

Great video Tim. I have a 1998 PC800 and I noticed on the cool days the thermostat just barely moved to the warm part of the gauge. PC800 runs a little ruff at that temperature, but the gauge stays right there even after riding for a while. I was thinking that maybe my thermostat was stuck open also, but looking at your video and other comments I think is probably working as designed. Guess the radiator is pretty efficient. Your PC looks great, cool little faring on the back, nice replacement seat covers.
