Are These the Scariest Bridges to Cross in America?

- Torri Forbes suffers from acute gephyrophobia, an intense fear of bridges that causes severe anxiety and even panic attacks. Forbes says a bridge collapsing under her, as happened last week in Pennsylvania, is her worst nightmare. Inside Edition was with Forbes as she crossed the Delaware Memorial Bridge, a dual span suspension bridge that is 2 miles long and 174 feet high, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland, which many think to be one of the scariest bridges in the U.S.
It’s great that she wants to conquer her fears, but it’s probably really not great for other drivers having her have a meltdown behind the wheel. Take small steps. Try with smaller bridges, on times that aren’t so populated, and work your way up. For the safety of everyone.
I hope she doesn't kill someone...

"IM NOT GONNA LOOK." as she's driving and over a bridge....straight up craziness
I think she was referring to either the horison past the road or its arches lol
I think she means the looking below I have this fear also…
It’s not craziness, it’s a phobia. Most people have at least one.
She meant she wasn’t going to look outside her peripheral vision on the road
I understand the anxiety, but it's extremely dangerous for her and for other drivers to do it. People I know with similar fears go a different route. It's a bit of a longer process but ensures the safety of everyone driving.
You can’t always just go a different rout 🥴☠️
Fr tho I feel like if you that afraid dont drive on it
@@batmama739 If the phobia is extreme, you’ll find a way, even if it’s hundreds of miles out of the way.
New York you can actually go through a tunnel in your car
True. Especially if she has a severe panic attack, I've had ones where parts of my body cramp up and go numb usually my hands. Getting that or even having a heart attack at the wheel is very dangerous. I don't think you should fight a phobia like this, this quickly.
Her: “Where can I pull off?”

Who's here after the Baltimore Bridge 😂
My heart goes out to both of these women. I have had a fear of high bridges since I was a child (especially when they're over water). When I became old enough to drive...I would avoid them at all costs even of it meant driving miles and miles out of the way. I applaud them both for facing their fears. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough...even with a police escort.
I couldn’t drive across the Mighty Mac bridge in upper Michigan, but they provided drivers for people like me. It’s the height and the nowhere to escape….you’re trapped, no pull offs.
It’s the same woman on both bridges lol.

Great way to overcome these fears is to look at the history if these bridges. Most of them collapse due to design flaws and poor maintenance.

You're scared of the freeway?
Lmao scared of a free way seriously? Drive the same speed as everyone else and you dont get in an accident its that simple.
@@louskunt9798 😂 omg lmao
@@cantthinkofnameyeah7249
I don't think you've driven before, because that's not at all what happens on a freeway. You have people that drive faster and slower than everyone else, regardless of what the speed limit says or if they're in a passing lane, and you have large trucks that you need to maintain a good amount of caution with when they slow down or signal to change lanes, because they have blind slots to the sides and behind. You also need to learn how to look in every direction you need to make sure you're able to shift into different lanes without causing an accident. Driving isn't simple and is different for everyone who gets behind the wheel.
Dont feel bad i dont drive on the freeways neither i been driving since i was 18 years old and im 41, people drive crazy on that freeway
I once had a daily commute that included a breathtaking bridge. 😱 Using focal points away from the water and keeping my eyes on the traffic helped tremendously.
I know what it's like to have anxiety while driving. It's not fun, it's scary! It hurt my heart for the one women that was crying while going over the bridge but, I'm glad they both did it and say they did to try and concore their fear of driving over a bridge. It's a mind over matter situation and with anxiety and panic attacks it's fight, flight, or freeze situation. With anxiety use your 6 senses while you drive to try and concore or ease the anxiety that could turn into a panic attack. I have anxiety driving in alot or heavy traffic. 💁♀️💌💯

My mom has this (but not as bad as the woman in this video). I never knew there was a word to describe her fear and hatred of driving across bridges.
I have no problem driving over bridges, but the Chesapeake Bay bridge is literally so scary, you'd have to experience in person
I used to drive across that bridge everyday it sucked when they shut the damn bridge and trucks couldn’t get through
I lost brain cells watching this.
Back in August of 2007, I was going to the movies with my family and we crossed the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis about 10 or so minutes before the bridge collapsed. Still the luckiest day of my life.
The fact that they went to such great lengths to conquer their fears is kudos to them. I mean the fact she had a panic attack and still drove over the bridge shows how brave she is that was probably not the best decision as her having such a severe panic attack could’ve caused an accident, but beside that point she is incredible for making that effort. And I agree that she should not go over that bridge again not because of the danger of it falling but because if she has a really severe panic attack and passes out she can have an accident on the bridge hopefully in the future her anxiety will be managed the point where she can drive over the bridge without having such severe panic attacks
I could relate to this story I had a very similar experience with the Kentucky Louisville bridge I had several meltdowns crossing that one
Me too! It seems so high up.
Yessss! I live in Indiana and have crossed that many times! Always makes me so anxious!
You know what’s even more scary driving through a tunnel. I get nervous even when I’m not the one driving. 😰

I never knew my fear of crossing bridges was a thing, I only think about it when actually driving over but I never really thought why - not so much the fear of the bridge falling but more like the wide open space around me. I don't avoid them though because the brain calms down the more often you face the fear.
Maybe she shouldn’t be driving on bridges. But no, its 2022, lets make her look courageous and strong for having a meltdown like a 6 year old child while in control of a motor vehicle surrounded by other drivers.

Oh yeah that's definitely scary cuz everything collapses down here due to the salt and high humidity.

The fear of driving over bridges wasn’t helped today.
Not even I could cross over that second bridge. That looks so scary
I’ve always found driving over bridges beautiful and peaceful. Never would’ve thought ppl were actually scared of something like tht
Hearing her scream is hilarious!!!
They would into full cardiac arrest if she they had to drive across the Causeway Bridge in Louisiana.
I partially have this fear. Whenever I'm driving somewhere with my dad and we cross over a bridge I have the feeling that it's support will give way and the entire bridge will collapse.
I would like to see them try the lake ponchantrain causeway in New Orleans
My kids have made fun of me for my fear of bridges for years. I’m glad to see I’m not alone and that there’s a name for it. I have it for tunnels too. It’s horrible
Yeah, I don't like tunnels either. There's one that leads to a floating bridge in the Seattle area. I'm glad I don't have to work in that area anymore.
She should be glad she was not on the Interstate 35W in Minnesota in August of 2007. That bridge collapsed over the Mississippi River. 13 people died and 145 were injured. A friend of ours was on her way to cross it, but needed gas and stopped to fill up, saved her life. Sad day!
Meanwhile I am the complete opposite. I love bridges and just seeing the water below me.
I couldn't be next to someone driving like that at cross a bridge I just can't
“Omg it’s huge” lol that’s what she said
Lol 😆
my mom has this phobia, she has panic attacks whenever she goes over long bridges (especially over water). i remember once we were driving to the beach and there was a big bridge and she was just hyperventilating and just “following” this truck in front of her as her safety guide
I used to cross the Chesapeake bay bridge daily for work... sometimes twice back and forth to see friends. It's really not that bad. Only rough when they have two way traffic on the two-lane span... it's like any other road, but in the air and everyone moves fast. My jeep always felt really high compared to the sidewalls. Maybe the only time I wanted a sedan.
I actually totally can sympathize where she's coming from. I used to have the same phobia. When I was a kid I couldn't ride in the bus over the bridge near my house and the school refused to send the bus a different way to avoid the bridge just for me so for years until I got over my fear of bridges my grandparents my neighbors family friends anyone that was available went out of their way to take me to school so I didn't have to go over a bridge. From the looks of this video it looks like she's starting to conquer her fear as well. Once she gets through this and is on the other side she'll probably feel like I did that the whole thing was absolutely just ridiculous.
I don't suffer as much as this lady, but I do have anxiety, my stomach drops and I grip the steering wheel. It doesn't matter if it's over water or an overpass. It is an overwhelming sense of dread.
Me too, I’m also afraid to be stuck in traffic under a bridge and an earthquake happening then the bridge squishes me.
@@u4riahscdude me too!!!!!!
That second bridge had a nice view. I can imagine it during summer time, rolling through there with the windows down feeling the cool breeze from the water come across your face and hair.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is no joke, scary and in horrible shape.
I like how they showcased that panic attacks can be visible, and silent. I have the same phobia, and I'm so proud of the people who have the courage to drive over bridges.
Man, after seeing the first woman cross the Chesapeake Bay bridge like how she did, I wonder how she would take crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel? The CBBT is 17.6 miles long. Could she handle that long of a bridge?
I’m terrified of bridges. I live right down the road from the tallest bridge in Georgia and I absolutely hate going over it. It’s just shy of 500ft but it does have an amazing view of the marshes here.
That deleware bridge is a BEAST especially in a semi when it’s storming and winds blowing crazy at night
I have the same fear not that bad but similar.
Where I completely understand, I don't think she should have a license, her anxiety can cause a serious accident

I’d be willing to bet drunk drivers, distracted drivers (people who love to talk and text while driving) and road ragers still end up killing more people on the road than disabled people do.

Like if I am nervous about making a left hand turn across 4 lanes, I will take a right, then get into the left turn median lane and turn into some random parking lot, and then turn right again. There isn't anything wrong with doing what you gotta do to be a safe driver

Some people just refuse to take such initiatives and allow these phobias to be used as a crutch for the rest of their lives.
