    In this video I detail the removal of the fuel tank and impact bar from the 1991 Corvette salvage parts car. I explain how the C4 fuel tank/impact bar is mounted directly to the rear frame rails of the car and show the assembly method of the individual components and how they all come together as a complete assembly.

    What kinda bolts are the 8 on the sub frame to frame?? I can’t find anything

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Před rokem

      They're natural cast 15MM long thread bolts with a shoulder. From the factory they can be seen pretty easily, but sometimes cars that have aftermarket undercoating applied hides the heads of the bolts. Just look for the spot where the aluminum impact bar attaches to the steel frame rails and you'll see the heads of the bolts.

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Před 4 lety

      Glad to hear you enjoyed them, appreciate the feedback.👍 The one quirk with the C4's is that every body panel on the car is bolted to the unibody/chassis structure with the exception of the quarter panels which are still glued to the inner tube like the earlier generations of Corvettes. I will be making a video soon detailing the removal of the quarter panels on the 1992 Corvette convertible project. You can find the playlist here -

    Can the tank be removed without removing the impact bar , or is it easier to do it the way you demonstrated ? Great information by the way .

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Před 3 lety +4

      Yes, you can loosen the six mount bolts that tie the impact bar to the rear frame rails, and it will drop down just enough for you to pull the tank straight out once you remove the tank to impact bar retaining straps. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it👍

  • @MrMetz2112

    Can the fuel-cell be removed without taking the tank and everything out of the car? Can you just pull the fuel-cell out from the top with out taking the tank out of the car?

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Před 3 lety

      If you are referring to the fuel pump/sending unit, yes it can. It is designed to be unbolted and pulled out from the top once the fuel door assembly is removed.
      If you thinking of the inner plastic bladder that is inside the tank you will unfortunately be forced to pull the entire tank assembly out of the car like I showed in the video, although you will be able to leave the rear bumper cover installed during removal.

      @@VetteSource i’m such a newbie when it comes to vette’s. when should i change it? how do i know i need one? i have 97k miles on it. are there ways or mods to keep water from getting in the gas tank?

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Před 3 lety

      Don, no worries, Corvettes are fun to learn about since they are complex enough to make then challenging.
      I wouldn't worry about the EVAP cannister unless you are getting a strong gas fume smell around the back of the car. With 97K miles you should still be OK.
      The best way to keep water out of the fuel tank is to make sure the drain hose located behind the fuel cap is not plugged up. Due to the location of the sending unit/filler neck, the Corvette engineers knew that water would get in there so that's why it has the drain hose. They just did a poor job of telling owners to check it to make sure it wasn't getting clogged up which can lead to water contamination in the fuel and destroy the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Let me know if you need anything else👍
