Background Song: The Six Realms - I Think I Can Help You
i wont lie, the moment luke shouted back at the deer horse god, i bawled. i thought that the god acknowledged his emotional pain and deemed him special, but it was just trying to pick easy prey to further dominate into submission. the fact that he overcame his guilt and self-loathing to survive and run away from that deer horse thingy, im so happy for him.
Well said it's a real heart felt story and well acted and protrayed. Pne of my favorites including one of my top 5 favorite creature designs of all time. Everyone should watch this gem.
I think everyone knows that, in a robbery, nothing is more precious than your life. Luke did nothing wrong, Robert should have let that ring go...
Material possessions are replaceable, your life is not
Yeah, all he could have done is gotten himself killed too.
Even so, does not take away from the survivors guilt he would have felt.
ABSOLUTELY, and ANYONE saying any different hasn't ever been in an actual fight, but think they'd win. It's delusional.
Without the machete? Fight. Fight. Fight.
But you're not going to win against a machete.
Instructors were teaching us that same thing in the army, about survival if the enemy catches you. One should use mirror psychology, not to be cocky or to play hero, if you are in a position where it is likely to be killed if you act like a macho manly man, well, it is smart not to do that, to be grey, but to think in which way to satisfy those who may ask info but how to evade giving them what they want... That is the whole art, films, where brave men do extraordinary feats, are just that, films. Always try to survive, all the rest is secondary, with the exception of the closest family. That is why real professionals in very dangerous jobs are usually single.
I do wonder if they would have let him life if he had given them his ring or if they would have shot him anyway
This movie did a lot of things really well. The best monster type movies either build up a big reveal of the creature or never do at all. The Ritual has a reveal that rivals even Alien and The Babadook. Loved the jokes you sprinkled into this one by the way!
Thanks a ton Lucas! This was a truly exceptional monster movie that was executed masterfully in my opinion! And I’m glad you liked my jokes! Lol
Yeah it was cool. But I wouldn't compare it to Alien or Babadook. The elements of horror and story telling were very different.
100% agree
I made the mistake of watching this alone. Just me & my cat during a heavy nighttime rain storm. It was scary, and then we started watching the movie.
The story left me wanting more. And, I was afraid that I would watch that, too. The cinematography, script, story, & actors were all great, imho.
My scare score is a solid 99/100. It's a really good scary movie.
It’s such a great movie! Such a creepy atmosphere and I absolutely love the lore!
@@HorrorMine I totally agree. The lore is fascinating. 🖤
8:40 him saying "ah fuck" and breathing heavily was priceless you know he knows they're fucked :'D
Yessss
FYI, you either fight, become paralyzed or run. It's a instinct that is very hard to overcome.
I think the paralyzed part is your instincts wanting to both fight and run. Not being able to decide on one
@@Graycata could be. Interesting point of view.
I feel like all the pressure is being placed on Luke when really there were wine bottles all over the place and Robert could have just grabbed one as well to beat the robbers. I feel like people tend to forget that there is more than just fight or flight and that is freeze.
2 robbers both armed with a metal pipe and A GUN and you expect me to run out with a bottle of vodka?
With the distance between them, dude coulda easily been shot while trying to hit.
Everyone has a plan about how they'd help their best buds out or whatever, until a gun is against their head, or a pipe has been lodged into a skull, etc. There's no easy way to know how your going to react in a life or death situation. It's not Luke's fault that there were robbers at a liquor store, and that in the end they decided to assault and murder someone. I'm not going to blame my friend who wants to stay up late and drink a bit more for the actions of criminals in a presumably safe area.
Although Luke was a coward, I don’t think it was his fault because it was the robber’s gun that killed his friend. Realistically though, if Luke tried to be a hero in this situation, he might have been killed too. I can’t blame him for being frozen with fear, not everybody’s born brave.
I think he also feels guilty because it was his idea to go into the store.
I don't remember a gun.
@@picturesonly22that’s because it was a lead pipe not a gun
This is one of my favorite horror movies as well and I one hundred percent agree that the sound design is out of this world. I would LOVE if you covered A Dark Song or Hard Candy. A Dark Song tied with the Ritual for me and came out around the some time, also not talked about enough
Started with “The Wailing” movie recap but ended up binging all videos of HORROR MINE! I really love this Scare Score Series and the way you explain these movies 🍿 ✨ Keep going, keep up your work since I’ve set up the notification bell for the upcoming videos hehe🔔
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it 😀
Luke did nothing wrong. That was very unfortunate but most likely if Luke interfered they would be memorializing 2 friends instead of 1. And Dom really doesn't seem like the type that would've helped either.
Indeed, with the robbers being armed and out numbering them. And Dom proves just how hypocritical of him several times later in the movie. He just wants to take he anger out on someone and chooses the one that the rest of the group will let happen to.
Thank you. I was wondering if it was just me. I mean I love my friends and family but if I had the opportunity to hide and they didn’t. I’m sorry. Vice versa if I’m the one to get held up I’m not looking to my loved one to save me. I want them to stay hidden.
@@tufftrev22 exactly and not escilate the situation and look to the friend. Rob died because he refused to give up his ring most likely.
True, nothing cowardly about what he did. Much like that adage about the small difference between bravery and stupidity, much rarer that people compare cowardice and logic. If Luke's friends cared for him, they'd try to empathize with how he must feel. Friends they are not.
If I remember correctly it was also Luke that insisted to get liquor and Robert kinda accompanied him to the liquor store, so that was also part of the blame.
it wasn't his fault. The robbers had weapons and Robert thought that his ring had more value then his life which he ends up paying for. I am sure his wife would be happy that even if he died, at least he didn't give them the ring /s
it is his fault. if they had not went into the liquor store for more liquor his bff wood have not been killed
Thing with this film is, most of the elements are familiar and found in other films (The Blair Witch Project, various 'Cabin in the woods' type films and The Wicker Man spring to mind), and yet somehow it's so well crafted, well scripted, and character driven, that this doesn't matter. They are smart to save the full monster reveal for the last few minutes. These reveals are always a slight anti-climax and tension-killer, even when the design is imaginative.
I have a request if you haven't done so already - THE BORDERLANDS - (I think it's known as Final Prayer in the US release). Another underappreciated British Gem. Would love your thoughts on that.
Love this movie, pretty funny when you said “said no horror movie ever” haha
Thank you I appreciate it! I worked hard on that line delivery so I’m glad you liked it 😂 and to this day I have not seen it where an entire group makes it out alive from a detour into the woods!
@@HorrorMine why should they? Whenever you go into the woods with a group of people there is ALWAYS someone just following the real outdoorsey people ha
Having grownup in Northern Ontario , the decision to cut across that kind of topography cross country and that dense of woods gave me extra stress. Hikes as a kid and reaching impassable ridges, dense woods, bogs. Murphy's law and weather gets bad can easily die. .......build Dom an A frame from edge of forest and drag his *ss around the trail the longway 🤓
Love this movie. By far, the best movie recap channel I’ve come across.
Wow thank you! It means a lot to hear you say that.
Yeah, even if Luke had done something, he probably would have been shot. Maybe his friends are telling him something... While he was a coward and could have done just a bit more, everyone is so hard on him for basically doing what human nature dictates us to do in a shocking, uncontrollable outcome. If Luke had been a hero, he would have been shot and the situation reversed, or both were dead, and then where are you? They are mourning two friends. And obviously in a horror movie, we the audience know the "correct" answer, but when it comes down to it, can you say for certain you can stop a robber with a weapon on the spot? Luke did what most people would do and while it's the "wrong" thing, it's very relatable for what most people would do!
Hi Vic, thanks for the awesome breakdown and scare score. I watched this by myself, in the dark, and by the time your score was on 15%, I was up at about 60%! This film is really scary. What an amazing monster / goddess thingo! Also, I agree Luke was a bit of a coward by not intervening at the store, but in life-threatening situations, your brain initially forces you into a fight/flight/freeze response that stops you thinking rationally for 10-15 seconds. His response was understandable. Also, it’s kind of ironic that Rob (who died in the store) came up with the crappy idea of a Swedish hike which ended up getting nearly everyone else killed by the end 😒
Binging this channel! For those of you who haven't watched this movie its a must! (Even if you see the recap) I feel like I've seen so many movies/read alot of books so can kinda guess the progression of were the writer will go with the plot. However this one threw me off, scared the crap out of me and set the bar. One of my favs too! I was literally talking to my best friend about it a couple days ago. Phil worshipping the statue upstairs was one of the scariest scenes! Anyways currently in Alaska and I couldn't wait to see a real moose because it reminded me of the Jotunn.
P.s: shout out to Darren Ewing🤣
Thanks for watching! I totally agree with you this is one amazing horror film!
Love the vid, “when you said: she can really made this video instead of me” got me laughing
I appreciate that man! LOL she pretty much spilled the beans on everything
I absolutely love this move. I have been enjoying a lot of your videos. Thank you for putting them out for all us💜
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you’re enjoying the content :)
Please watch the Filipino movie Banal! It's a lot like this movie but involves teenagers. I think it's one of the decent horror movies from the Philippines. You should also see Seklusyon (lit. Seclusion) and Kuwaresma (The Entity).
I feel like (at least IMO) that the Loki creature is one of the top5 best creature designs in ALL of cinema histroy. The Xenomorph is clearly #1 but this creature is well designed and represented. The lore is dope and it all comes together. I really liked this movie I bought it on DVD (years ago it was NOT on blu ray, I haven't checked lately). One of my favorites. One of the best creature designs IMO!
when confronted by someone with a weapon, especially in a robbery - just comply. your life is worth more than whatever theyre going to take. if Luke had jumped in, then the rest of the group may be mourning the deaths of 2 friends instead of 1.
Incredible flick and book.
Good movie it actually surprised me!
Check out the movie " the wailing"
I absolutely loved The Wailing and I will be making a video on it very soon! Thanks for recommending!
Bruh, Loki has a snake, a wolf, and an 8 legged horse. It wasn't that confusing
This channel’s is so good!
Thank you so much!
In my top 4 of monster horror film. Maybe 1 or 2,I literally fell in love with Motor. I was stunned by the little history we get
the runes on the tree in the beginning stand for birth land/ancestral property and edurance, survival/trouble, and perseverance (the bottom two look flipped but they look closest to Nied and the top looks like Othala) its a small little thing that just serves as an extra warning
Man this channel is such a hidden gem.
Really, Luke did nothing wrong.
I agree. The best horror movie I have ever seen. That beast was amazing. I loved it.
Great Channel! My only suggestion is to turn the volume up on the actual scenes from the films. Otherwise a huge thumbs up!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! I will definitely do that
The monster resemble that of a monster from the Witcher 3 that also have genjutsu like ability. Should've called geralt as their tour guide
His death wasn't his fault ..it was the robbers and the victims fault for not giving him his ring ...
I love how enthusiastic your intro is. It’s so cute! 😄
Haha thanks a lot! Although I’ve received a lot of criticism for that in my earlier videos so I’ve toned it down by a lot 😬
@@HorrorMine oh boo! I think it’s fun, I would be excited to talk about spooky stories too. The narration is what makes your channel work
Absolutely love your content, your channel will truly take off soon. Amazing quality sir, will be spreading the word!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
@@HorrorMine of course sir! Happy 30k!!
@@Abyssiondubs Thank you!
After watching a whole bunch of stories about the missing 411 that killed me going camping in a forest ever again!
The robbers switch there attention to roooobert lmaooo
I love this movie so much
I don't think it's fair to blame Luke for his friend's death. The robbers are the ones that's responsible.
Im glad people enjoy it and I think it was shot beautifully but it really was not that scary to me.
Lord Vold.... LoL Nice movie!!!
This movie was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Those tree stumps don't look carved, they look like someone was trying to make something well-known in the Nordic countries and Russia, such stumps, if one makes such cuts on them can serve as an excellent way of making a campfire. I bet there are videos where that technique is explained. Then again, the filmmakers might have seen how that is done and thought it can be a nice addition to the plethora of creepy stuff in that wood.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 much love
Great vid
Holy shit you used to be so goofy lmao
Thank you!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching
This movie was scary a little funny and felt real as heck
I can never spot the damn thing Moder in every tree scene
What's up with Sweden lol
Haha I don't know but it's very beautiful and I hope I can visit their one day!
It's not us mate. Every horror movie about Sweden is made by dudes who barely can point at it on a map lol.
@@remruna3538 It's somewhere in Europe right? :pppp

Modor is not necessarily female, though to you, she can be.
Loki, go and stand in the corner🤦🏾♀
👍👍👍👍
I fundamentally disagree with the premise that Luke did the wrong thing. Its highly debatable what the best course of action should have been in that situation, maybe Robert should have just given them the ring instead of provoking the person with a knife in hand.
I am not one to use this term often but the idea that it is perfectly obvious that Luke ought to have intervened there may just be a symptom of toxic masculinity. Worst case scenario he would have gotten both of them killed, I doubt they had good chances given that they were unarmed and the robbers had weapons.
It bothers me how judgmental you are (and really the movie itself). Another thing to note is that it is extremely difficult to act rationally in a situation like this. If you havent experienced something like this I wouldnt be too quick to judge people who have. Your mind completely freezes and you cant think straight at all, his intuition to hide was perfectly reasonable.
excusing being a coward in such an elaborate way, haha
15:55 the description of religion… listen 15:55
damn
All powerful god. Gives flawed eternal life, Bad LSD trips and blends well in forests. Main weakness....missiles, grenades, rocket-launchers and just about any explosives or ballistic deliveries from any modern weapon. Possibly also tall, concrete walls and K-pop. I'd rather fight this thing than go up against a Tank....so I guess, we are the gods now.
Yeah is somebody that conceal carries, the dude hiding what is smart, the other dude decided to gamble with his life and he lost! I remember watching this thinking to myself WOW Really, what a fuскing idiot! That moment when he was looking at the other guy hiding was probably the moment he realised he made a big mistake!
Like I said I carry, but in America I would hesitate to save somebody because you'll be sued almost immediately!
Dude that's the whole movie!! Folks you do not need to see the movie anymore you just saw it!
i hate that u need to sacrifice/hurt more people in order 2 move on.
😲!!! Scooby🫢
I know it's a ficitonal movie, I know you got to give the film makers some creative license but damn it.... there's so much wrong with this supposed cult it drove me nuts. Jotun is not A god, it's the name of a race of frost gigants. Loke is not their father but he is a jotun. Jotuns were not spirits of the forest or guardians, they could not grant eternal life or any of the sort, they were just a people of gigants. We do have forrest guardians too, called rå but they are not, once again in the position to grant anyone eternal life. They do kill men and people they don't like however.... Moder as this beast is called translates directly to Mother which made me cringe even more since the closes thing to a mother figure in asgardian lore would be Freja, the deity of women, childbirth and life. As for the runes.... thos are actual runes but the way they are scribbled around the place makes no sence to me, the form no sentences and magical runes is usually either combined as one as kastrunor or singles. I think I even saw a couple turn on their sides. The one of the woman is the equvilant of O but also means property so that part do make sense.... As I said, I get that it's a movie and not a documentry but as a swede who loves norse mythology and do read runes..... there's so much they could have done to make it believable. I don't buy that this supposed diehard "viking"ish cult would make so many errors. At the very least they would now JOtun isn't a god, if you want a deranged god go with Loke. HE is jotun and a god and batshit crazy.
Fair enough, but it may not be literally a creature of mythology as wrote , but within the fiction of the film a creature , and it's captives are projecting myths upon it, carving runes inaccurately ect sort of like a cargo cult. ..... The existence of the creature within the film doesn't mean entire Norse pantheon exists or other monsters or magic. ...... For example a Bigfoot movie may regard fictional creature as a giant hominoid with what seems like supernatural powers. Indigenous characters would talk of Sasquatch, Wendigo. That doesn't mean within the film context giant raven tricksters exist. As a work of mythology apparently the film is lacking , but I considered it as just creature feature teasing at some links to mythology.
Y'all act like those robbers had guns they had a freaking metal rod. sorry but two dudes against two dudes and a metal rod isn't a death sentence. So yeah it's a total bitch move to try and help your friend. Especially after he got hit once Luke could have jumped out and said he called the police and scared them away or something.
Ugly movie if from Netflix.
Luke did NOTHING wrong, the robbers were armed. This isn't anime Luke would just have been killed.
