PS. Why am I here on youtube? Here's my story!
• How I got started danc...
I've just started dance lessons, at the age of 50+, for rehab to a head injury. Between classes, when I inevitably forget some of the moves, I've gone down the rabbit hole of CZcams dance videos, looking for a reminder.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of these videos are made by people who are great dancers, but who don't remember what it was like to NOT know how to dance... their movement and instructions are waaaay beyond the 90% of us who don't know what we're doing.
Your videos contain that wonderful combination of clear explanations, varied repetition, and level-appropriate demonstrated expertise. Thanks very much!
We are so glad we can help people with our dance instruction. We try and target social and newer dancers. I hope your are having fun with dance. You can find plenty more videos on this cannel and west coast swing online. As well as our website www.socialdanceonline.com
I am adding ballroom to my UCWDC and this channel is both a blessing for that as well as getting us through COVID. I've talked to you Brian at a convention and you went out of your way to introduce me to Miss Megan. BTW this is American Smooth Rumba right?
Thank you. The same rumba patterns become different dances with change of styling, speed and music. I learn them all, they are very versatile patterns. .
Great straight forward yet inclusive instruction
Thank you! Hope it is helpful.
Magnificent! It’s wonderful to watch and listen to dance instructors who are dance expects and great communicators as well.

That is the best compliment ever! We love to share our love of dance, it makes us happy to know we can help others love it too!
👏👏👏👍🌹
Good instructions and explanation of the subtleties👍.
Just one small but important detail. It's Rumba, pronounced like Roomba. Not Ruhmbah. Trust me on this. I'm from Habana Cuba, the birthplace of Rumba.
I'm originally from Boston - you're just hearing my accent ;-) -Brian
What kind of shoes do you have Megan? I am looking for comfy shoes. Lots of Ballroom shoes but not comfy. Help
Hey there @pamelacofield2302 (Emily chiming in) I love my Swayd boots. Megan has several pair of those, as well with various heel heights, and I believe some PortDance shoes as well. Both are super comfy, if I say so myself! Hope that helps!! ~Emily
As the leader ho do I communicate wat dance style (fox ,chcga, rumba, waktz etc)I will be doing without verbally communicating where d music rythm is gray/can b danced to variety dance styles. As one wants to a a avoid embarresment. hanks
Well most of the time you would just tell your partner you hear a particular dance and then you would dance that.
When you start the basic step to start the dance the follower would catch on.
What shoes is the lead wearing in this video?

Good video however, even at a beginning level, I would personally like to see some hip movement incorporated into the lesson. An important element of rumba.
We target social dancers, hip movement is not crucial to social dancing. particularly when they are just getting started. Its hard enough just learning the steps. But I love all the fun technique myself.
@SocialDanceOnline
Thank you for the comment and your explanation.
I also target social dancers and have been teaching for 35 years. In my experience, I've found that adding some hip movement, while teaching Rumba, hasn't been difficult for beginners. The same falls true with Cha Cha. In fact, often leaving the hips out, it can easily tend to make beginners Rumba look like Foxtrot.
With my teaching technique, I give my students a lot of credit and encouragement for what I believe are their capabilities. I've found that if I give them many of these elements early, they are able to incorporate them as they learn and develop their dancing.
Anyway, we all have our own methods. Even though they may be different, hopefully, they continue to work for the students.
Hello coolie. Without the hips and "natural" steps, and of course the right music, these patterns become nightclub 2step. With hips and stepping on balls of feet, it becomes rumba, you are absolutely right. A faster Latin music, these patterns become salsa. Dancing is fun!!!
Where can I purchase your videos in CD format

Why can't you do it to music at the end so we as viewers relate to the patterns.
Some of our videos have music some don't. Sorry
