I'm confused on when you work in the fused blade combos? The dual blade stuff just lights up what you should do next, which seems easy enough, despite the text being mega confusing, and the light-up swords being even more confusing. When is dreadwinder worth working in? Just ASAP? Should you open with THAT? Or with Dread fangs?
The current tentative opener has us use dread fang into swifskin before we start the dreadwinder combo. Past the opener you can use dreadwinder on cd as long as you don't overcap the timer on your debuff. I showcase the opener in my level 100 guide, the link is timestamped: czcams.com/video/QwbpUlom50M/video.htmlsi=2NvYWrFii-zzZzEO&t=617
wait, so instead of a bloated samurai like action bar the viper's adopting a more Gunbreaker kind of bar, the combo's just evolve as you attack? that's awesome
So basically even though I'm using the right proc, I need to be standing on that stand of the enemy as well? I'm just trying to make sure I understand you right.
So I'm doing all that but sometimes the combo just drops even though I'm doing what it says? Or it doesn't give me the ogcd finisher sometimes. I don't get why.
I was reading the job guide page while waiting on the maintenance to end and was super overwhelmed thinking “oh shit maybe this’ll be too complicated to start the expansion with” …then I unlocked the job and 10 minutes after practicing on a dummy everything just clicked at how simple the job is
@@IlyaDalamiqno youre right the gauge itself tells you nothing. The last Skill of a Combo however ist colour Coded, Green for flank and Red for rear Like you said

Whoever designed this job needs to be FIRED or assigned to GOLD SAUCER content. NEVER...NEVER have I EVER had such an IMPOSSIBLY FRUSTRATING job design before. I've played LITERALLY EVERY JOB and had NO IDEA what all this garbage did or transformed into, where I should start, or what to do next, or what's an ability that needs to be weaved but into what else? Like this is the WORST DESIGNED JOB IN THE GAME BY FAR. The tool tips DO NOT HELP and are filled with USELESS JARGON. I NEVER have played casters before and was able to UNDERSTAND WHAT PICTOMANCER DID AND WHAT SHOULD BE DONE NEXT. Paint motifs before engaging. Use motifs in the opener after buffs are up for heavy hitting moves. use RBG filler to get the CYV powerful moves. Not perfect, but at least I UNDERSTOOD WTF I SHOULD BE DOING. This garbage is so trash.
And before any smart ass says "Just read tool tips" I DID. I READ EVERY ONE OF THEM. Taking monk as an example: You need to use your ball gaining moves to use your ball spending moves. You use Perfect balance to use whatever GCDs you need to use (Spend or gain) to blitz. Make sure buffs are up before burst. Use replies in burst. IT IS THAT EASY. LITERALLY EVERY MELEE IS NOT LIKE THIS TRASH. I can pick up and have, every Melee job. RPR: Use debuff. Use button that gives red resource. Also, while that is happening, use raid buff that gives you a move that gives you one use of your burst combo. Make sure your red resource giving buttons don't overcap. If nothing else can be done, use your 123 until you can spend red or blue resource. Like holy shit.
It sounds like the job just isn't for you, which isn't a bad thing. Personally I find it pretty intuitive and easy. The first quest you get gives a good practical explanation on how it works. I'm still only lv85 on viper so I can't speak for the 90+ rotation but so far it's very straightforward - definitely simpler than other jobs, but that's also another positive in my mind. I hope you manage to get a feel for the job eventually! If not then I hope you enjoy the expansion :)
I had a harder time re-learning monk, tbh. When monk abilities light up, usually you can use whichever one...but for the mantra stuff, it was HELLA confusing, and I enjoy monk (you really have to memorize which one will light up which color so you don't screw up your combo finisher and get the weak one)...but I don't love that they got a complex mudra system. This one really is 'press what lights up, memorize which one is a flank positional, and which one is a rear one' (and hint - the third ability in any combo will be the positional one!). Literally the button you push...then lights up and becomes a new button, which you then push. Or you push it and it lights up the other button next to it, indicating the other button should be pushed. The text on the abilities is hella confusing, but the visuals make it clear what you should do. I'm more confused on when you should be using the dual blade or the fused blade.

Thanks for the help! I was lost reading the tooltips.. and this was much better clearer explanation
Thank you! I can't understand written guides so this is super helpful!
Thanks. No bs quick guide. I was confused and didn't had the patience yet reading all these massive tooltips.
This was super helpful, thanks!
thanks for helping after all these years
Any time ^^
Thank you so much for the help
Thanks, I had gotten it right, but I had missed the gauge highlighting either side according to what's procc'ed.
Thank you!! my only question is, the 2 ogcd's you get that you have to press immediately, does the order of those batter at all?
Yes, because one buffs the other.
If you're not sure about the order, glance at your hotbar and press the one that lights up.
Thank you! Now I can actually try viper xD

Yup, Pictomancer is also build sort of like that.
So basically even though I'm using the right proc, I need to be standing on that stand of the enemy as well? I'm just trying to make sure I understand you right.
The final hit in your basic combo is indeed a positional.
The same goes for your second and third hit of your Dreadwinder combo.
So I'm doing all that but sometimes the combo just drops even though I'm doing what it says? Or it doesn't give me the ogcd finisher sometimes. I don't get why.
Are you perhaps fighting a mob above your level?
Because if your attack misses then you drop combo or don't get certain actions to happen.
@@IlyaDalamiq Oh okay thank you. I think I was practicing against a lvl 90 dummy at 80 lol.
Then it would make a lot of sense that things weren't working XD

In terms of the gauge is the blue glow a flank and red glow a rear positional?
As far as i can tell the red glow means you're in your second step of the combo and the blue glow means you're in your third step.
@@IlyaDalamiq Just confirmed it: Blue determines Flank, Red determines Rear. Makes it so much easier now
Hmmm, curious.
I get the red glow only on the second combo which has no positional requirement and blue on the last, regardless of back/flank.

It's overall design plus starting at lvl 80 certainly was a bold choice which made this class way more confusing when it has to be.
