  • The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes features three separate protagonists, all of whom are named and modeled after the archetypal Hyrulian Hero. But they can't ALL be Link... can they?
    In this video, I try to answer the question nobody has asked.

    I like this theory so much because before the Eshop closure, there was screenshots of the game showed the icons of Red and Blue names one the bottom touch screen. There names are:
    Red: Talon
    Blue: Ralph
    I’m honestly not sure if this is a coincidence or intentional because this theory reminded me of those screenshots. Sadly the Eshop closed so we might not be able to see it again :(

      Those were just easter eggs. There has been footage out there of official gameplay where they had other familiar names like Marin or Malon, and even Holly. I think Zelda might've been one of them too. And I pretty sure there were a bunch of others. I think they only had those names as fun references because there were so many of them that were used.

      Honestly, it was insane stumbling upon your video, because I kid you not, I posted on reddit months ago about a headcanon I had about the Blue Triforce Hero being named Ralph because of that specific trailer, and I went with the idea that the TH Ralph might be related to OFA Ralph given both are a generation apart.

      I wish that wasn't a limit, lol
      I tried playing it with a friend but there were only two of us
      I wish it was handled like Four Swords Adventures and you could play with any number between 1 and 4. Any Links missing a player in those games just followed another Link, and you could even pick them up to steal them from another player
      Probably even easier in Tri-Force Heroes since there are no formations. You just have doppels kinda vibing that you can switch to.
      There was no reason to limit it to 1 or 3 players

    I literally cannot emphasize enough how badly i want that "Legend of Hilda" idea to happen. I think it's really dumb of Nintendo to completely ignore the 2D games, despite the fact that they are really good and sell pretty well, and Ravio is my favorite character in the series.
    So Nintendo needs to get on that NOW.

      Yeah, unfortunately, Nintendo has a REALLY bad habit with Zelda of having really great ideas and never revisiting, developing or fleshing them out (Termina, Twilight Realm, Lorule, Holodrum/Labrynna, and various items and races that only show up once).
      Best chance we have is a fangame or romhack.

  • @pinkie723
    @pinkie723 Před 5 měsíci +9

    My head canon for the hair color is that the three Links are required to be linked together by a spell to use the Triforce teleporters, and the spell is what makes their hair different colors, the colors associated with courage, wisdom, and power. This is why all three players share the same hearts, can look at another player's perspectives who's on the other end of the map (tap and hold their icon on the bottom screen), and why all three players need to stand together to teleport to the next area. This may or may not change the color of their clothes too since it does from our perspective as the players, or maybe you're just playing as the other Links when you're not the lobby host. To start a lobby you need to talk to the old man, and after a strange chant your hair turns green while you wait for other heroes to show up and be linked to you through the spell
    This also explains how the doppels work, they're wooden statues made to look like the hero, and by using a different but similar linking spell, one hero's soul can be linked to the doppels, letting him move his soul between them and take turns controlling each one. You can literally *see* Link's soul leave his body and fly towards the doppels when you change characters. This is also why you can't control multiple doppels at once like you can in Four Swords Adventures with the formations in single player, or even like in Four Swords Anniversary Edition where you can have your second Link follow you around. In these games the four Links are just the same Link split apart. His body is duplicated (or even c̴̔͜l̵͈͂o̶̯̾n̵̬̑ë̸̘́d̶͙̐ you could say) and his soul is split into four and can be in four different places at the same time. But Triforce Heroes' Link only has his one intact soul that can only be in one place at once. If he isn't lucky enough to find his long lost t̵͔̂w̶͈͋i̷̟̓ṇ̸͝s to link together with, he just has to link together with the doppels instead and juggle his soul around controlling each one individually

    These are a really interesting set of theories!
    I love when the lesser loved games like Triforce Heroes and the Oracle duology (or basically any of the handheld games) are referenced and included in theories.

    This was an amazing video!
    I’ve thought about this topic a lot and while I think the other Links being from Labryina and Holodrum is more likely, I’d like to propose another idea that I've thought about. The other Links might be from Termina and the World of the Ocean King.
    First, we know from the Fierce Deity Armor that there had to have been some interaction between Hytopia and Termina. Same thing with the Linebeck Uniform and the world of the ocean king.
    Second, this would explain the whole pointed ears thing as both Terminians and Ocean-Kingians have pointed ears.
    And finaly, its worth noting is that each Link is assigned a voice based on different games in the series which kind-of matches up with each dimension, but that's not the strongest evidence.
    LBW Voice- Hyrule
    WW/ST Voice- Ocean King
    Oot/MM Voice- Termina

    • @brosephlacasquevtuber
      @brosephlacasquevtuber  Před 5 měsíci +9

      Well, one thing is Nintendo just really likes cute references without considering their consequences. So I tend to disregard that kind of thing unless there's a really good reason not to. Otherwise BotW and TotK get darn near impossible to make sense of. And TFH is purposefully silly, so I can't lend such things too much credence.
      Also Linbeck has a descendant who lives in New Hyrule, so it doesn't have to be the Ocean King's realm. It could instead be heroes from the Child and Adult timelines. But regardless, I didn't really consider any parallel worlds or parallel timeline stuff because there is no mention of that kind of thing within TFH. Otherwise, this game would be a focal point for "Timeline Convergence" proponents.
      I DO rather like the voice point tho. That's kind of a fun observation.
      But overall, glad you enjoyed!

    My guess is that "straight up required" is the most likely for Oracles to find someone so that the power continues to exist or something like that, with "highly encouraged" being second place in terms of chances, if we go with the interpretation that the oracle's power is a bloodline thing.

    Interesting take on the identities of the two other Links.
    I was surprised to hear that Nintendo thought that the 3 Links that you play as are all Link (in their case all three are the same Link from ALBW). Now the only way that can make sense is if there are multiverse shenanigans occuring, probably have something to do with the Triforce Gate and the Match Master in some way. But when looking closely at how multiplayer stuff works I think this is more likely.
    Players can have other players join their game and players can also join other players’ games. This can be done either through local play, download play, online play with friends, or online play with random players. Players can blacklist other players by the way. For those who own their own copy of TFH they are their own main Green Link, but also have the option to join other players’ games and become either Red or Blue Link in whatever game the players join. It’s not only those two people who can play as Red and Blue Link but literally anyone can be Red and Blue Link, and Green Link on their own terms unless you're playing through download play. Links have their own Hytopia they go to and can visit other Links Hytopia’s, I feel like the only way this makes sense is that there is a multiverse at play where all these Links are experiencing the same adventure at the same time and can crossover into each other's realities, likely because of the Match Master. To note, these different universes all still share the same events that occur on the timeline, I think these individual universes are the player's own universe, the only thing that really changes between universes is how the player plays the games, no branching timelines either. I believe this is who the Red and Blue Links are: Links that come from an infinite amount of other players’ universes (who are also their own Green Link) to help each other out.
    Also I think the 3 Links are becoming doppels when coming together in multiplayer mode. In single player mode you use these puppets called doppels to take control of the Red and Blue Links, and there is a green doppel when taking control of another doppel, in order to enter the Drablands. That could also explain their hair color changes (even their clothes too). If not then at least their souls are bound together (they all share the same health bar like with the doppels) through a similar spell like with Link binding with the doppels.
    I found it odd that the kingdom of Hytopia were insistent on the prophecy of the three TriForce Heroes and their three courageous attributes to save them from the Drablands Witch but only 1 Link shows up and that's enough for them to send him to save the day. As well having doppels on hand for Link to use if he doesn’t bring 2 others with him. The Red and Blue Links don’t even show up at the end of the game celebration. Frankly I find Hytopia to be rather suspicious. For example, in the Japanese website for the game it's said that some of the outfits contain the souls of those skilled in the ability that the costume gives, such as the Spin Attack Attire, the Sword Suit, the Kokiri Clothes, and the Zora Costume. But what about outfits such as Linebeck’s Uniform or the Legendary Dress which is clearly Zelda dress from ALttP and ALBW. Is her soul in that dress? Even weirder is that her snow angel can be seen as a scenic sight in one of the Ice Cavern levels. Very interesting. Anyway those are my thoughts on the matter.

      I think their philosophy is that YOU play as the "real Link" but everyone else is some "other Link". But it says that to everyone so nobody feels left out.
      Also, Hytopia is very much implied to be a physical location on Hyrule's plane of existence given how many sources specifically state that it's "North of Hyrule"

    • @PJCVita92
      @PJCVita92 Před 5 měsíci

      @@brosephlacasquevtuber What would those sources be exactly? I only know that it's related to Hyrule as a neighboring. I haven't actually seen anything stating that it's North. That maybe just Hytopia, but one thing I always thought was likely was that the Drablands were east of Hyrule since there's an active volcano on the opposite side of the map of where Death Mountain usually is. Implying that the Drablands are east and the volcanic region is connected to Death Mountain. This of course would be before the land splits and the Drablands likely became the southern part of East Hyrule in Zelda II. Which makes perfect sense since the location of the Den of Trials (where you fight the Dark/Shadow Links) matches up perfectly with where the Great Palace/Temple is located in the Southern East Hyrule in Zelda II.
      Also, as for Hytopia, I remember seeing someone post a theory about Hytopia being the canon version of Calatia, the kingdom where Zelda I and II Link is from in the old comics. And according the comics, Calatia was west of Hyrule, not North. Maybe Hytopia is only North of the Old Hyrule down south? And assuming it is the canon version of Calatia that would be Northwest. Or maybe Hytopia is was eventually became the North Castle in Zelda II.
      Now that you have me thinking about this stuff, this gives me some interesting ideas of how the events of the TFH era leads into the events of the first two games era.

    • @brosephlacasquevtuber
      @brosephlacasquevtuber  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Well, I know the Zelda Encyclopedia specifically says Hytopia is North of Hyrule. I know people have their issues with that book, but it is the only source of word-of-God statements on this particular game. I thought I had also seen it somewhere on the old website or a developer interview, but I may be mistaken there. Regardless, I am inclined to think Hytopia Castle may just be the North Castle from Zelda 2.
      It also does suggest a connection between the Drablands and Zelda 2's valley of Death, but that's a lot less concrete.

    I find it really cool that you had same sort of impression of where the Drablands especially are located as I did. Also, as for the TriForce Heroes, I do believe that they definitely could be descendants of the characters from not only the Oracle games but also Minish Cap. This also fits perfectly with how the other two Links have voices from other games like OoT/MM and all the other Toon Link games as the Oracle games and Minish Cap all have references and nods to both Hero of Time era and the Hero of Winds era. It would explain how and why Hytopia and the Drablands have knowledge and artifacts related to those seen in places like Termina and the World of the Ocean King.
    Which leads me to my headcanon. Now, I actually believe that TFH is a separate generation of three Links altogether as I don't agree with Zelda Encyclopedia. I'm more of a Hyrule Historia kind of Zelda fanatic where I believe that the Oracle games happen in between ALttP and LA as implied by the linked game ending of the Oracle games. I believe the existence of a third oracle game would've explained the reasons why everything happened as they did in Seasons and Ages. Now back to the TFH era. I personally believe that Green Link is a direct descendant of ALBW Link as he was of ALttP (assuming he made it back to Hyrule after LA). Red Link is hero from Holodrum with a farming/ranch and knighthood hybrid heritage as you speculated. While Blue Link is descended from Ralph.
    As for the TriForce Heroes of old, I believe those might've been ALBW Link's generation of the TriForce Heroes. This would explain the likely actual connection to the two eras and why the merchant mistakes the Links as the ones from a long time as they would be direct descendants of them. Basically making the idea that the Links in TriForce Heroes are the same Link from ALBW more so a theory or a myth/legend. I want to try to at least acknowledge the official canon as it's confirmed somewhat, as I'm not like other people who tend to just completely ignore what is stated and confirmed altogether just to defend their argument.
    Now, more on the Terminian and WotOK connection. I believe that while ALBW was happening, the other two Links of that time were having adventures in Termina (Blue) and WotOK (Red). I have Blue in Termina because of an idea I have revolving around the Fierce Deity specifically, explaining the Fierce Deity outfit. Also, Termina is also home to a character similar to Ralph in Kafei. Red ends up in WotOK for similar reasons as Blue in Termina. Red being a farmboy would be right at home in WotOK due to lots loot to find for back home. After all, a farmer/rancher does make the perfect pirate. And the idea of Red being a thief was already teased in the Four Swords manga. Not to mention that Nintendo's Toon Link games do tend to take a lot of inspiration from One Piece as One Piece takes some inspiration from not only Dragon Quest but also Zelda also. Though, mainly the games that take inspiration from One Piece. However, I also do believe that Combsly is somehow related Linebeck as his name in Japanese is Allback, which is another connection to the WotOK, to explain the Linebeck outfit.
    And finally, to further back this up, in ALBW, the Maimais mention another world (likely Termina), implying that they not only actually from Termina, but Termina is or was in need of a hero at the moment. Which is where Blue Link comes in. Also, Green Link has Majora's Mask in his house, which implies that maybe somehow, Green and the other Two Links already know each other. Perhaps Blue gave Green the Majora's Mask or a replica of the mask as a gift from one of his travels to Termina. There's also a picture of a Korok face (specifically Makar's I think) somewhere. Maybe Red heard stories about the Hero of the Winds and his adventures that he told from folk in the WotOK. The reason we don't see or hear anything of Red or Blue in ALBW at all is because they're both on their own adventures. And afterward, the legend told in TFH takes place. Then generations later is when TFH happens.
    Anyways, sorry for the long comment, I just had a lot to mention and talk about. And I know my theory and headcanon is probably so crazy and far fetched. I normally tend to sometimes avoid posting my ideas online because whenever I do, people always tear them apart. But this is one of those times where I just couldn't help myself. I can not help that I'm fan who really loves the series and happen to have my own ideas to help expand upon the lore of the Zelda series that I love to share. I just really love this series and it's lore so much!

    • @brosephlacasquevtuber
      @brosephlacasquevtuber  Před 5 měsíci

      I think the aLBW hero being part of the first generation of Tri Force Heroes and the TFH game's Link being a later generation is an interesting take. But in that same vein, might it instead be that the aLBW Link is still the TFH Link, and the Link from aLttP/LA/OoA/OoS was part of that first generation of Tri Force Heroes? Perhaps that could even be where he was sailing to/from during Link's Awakening?
      As for the Majora's Mask and Phantom Hourglass references, in a game as silly and costume-focused as this, I'm not inclined to give 2 cute reference costumes added as DLC post-launch too much credence. I don't even consider the reference costumes in BotW/TotK, or that Majora's Mask in Link's (Between Worlds) house all that seriously. The Zelda team really loves their references, and often puts zero thought into their lore implications.
      And for the voices, I just think the devs used the sound files they conveniently already had on hand, so I don't think it's an intentional connection. But then again, developer intention often gets sidelined when theory-crafting, lol.
      And while I forgot that the Maimais were from another world, since it takes place in the game "a Link Between *Worlds* ", wouldn't it be more intuitive to conclude they might come from Lorule? The babies are spread across both Hyrule and Lorule. Plus Mother Maimai even enhances the specific items that Ravio (a Lorulian) sells to you.
      I don't mean this to "tear your theory apart" or anything. But it's also important to have theories questioned and challenged so you can better refine them. Good ol' constructive criticism. Iron sharpens iron and all that. Regardless, there are some interesting ideas here, and I'm very glad you enjoyed my video!

    I like 2D handheld games, I’m even going back and replaying my childhood hood Zelda games, the 2 Oracle games right now.
    Also before I finish the video my theory is that that are from Holodrum (red link, and Labrynna respectively. Since the Link from ALttP canonically visits those lands and becomes famous it makes sense that his name would become popular to name boys hoping the child would grow to be brave like Link, hell there’s even a family that Link interacts with across both games, and depending on what he does their child can grow up to be a knight, being influenced by Link himself.

  • @mirndalink7231
    @mirndalink7231 Před 29 dny

    My headcanon is that Link is Just a common name in hyrule, also the pointy ears and the the haircut are average hylian features and maybe the original Link teached them the spin attack, so the answer is that anyone of them can be Link, this is more fitting with the nintendo's "explanation"

    I wonder if I missed one of those map videos. CZcams doesn't like showing me things, lol
    But anway yeah I just don't really think about the identities of the other two "Links", nor do I put any stock into them also being called Link out-of-game
    Here's what I think. For each individual player, their Link is just Link, since on their game they enter the town as Link and then join the lobby as whatever color. The color of the tunic and hair is just a gameplay thing to tell each player apart.
    Narratively speaking, one of the three is Link, the remaining two just are other wandering heroes with the specified pointed ears and side parted hair (really weird detail, could have just left it at the ears, Nintendo)
    I don't even think them being left handed is important to the narrative either. Just assume they're two other heroic hylians and we can honestly leave it at that.

And for the statue of the triforce heroes who seems to indicate that they were other triforce heroes in the past, I think that this statue was just a prophecy of the triforce heroes from Triforce Heroes.
