- Bun cha, a must eat when in hanoi. This place has been around for 40 years. Initially starting in a market and being take away only. Now they have grown and moved into a permanent location. Obvious why this place is so popular. Flavorful cha, grilled meat with fat and charr, and just a great environment.
Now for the next place, I wont say much. I just think I need to go back and try a different dish. If you feel like it is something you would like, maybe try it, but for me, it just didn’t work.
Finally, I went to this lady so much. We got to know each other really well and I must say she has almost perfect fried corn, fried sweet potato, and fried banana. Now having served for over 40 years, her following is amazing as locals flock to her to grab multiple fried goodies.

I think it's ok to be honest about things you don't like. I guess food bloggers like you are afraid they may affect the businesses they review. But since you pointed out how popular it is with locals, it's all good. It's just a personal preference.

I dont think there are too many bad places where he is at, it supposed to be a real foodie town/country.
@@JJ-ym8bu and he is surely quite open minded when it comes to food. I would not try many of the dishes he does. I am not as adventurous in my food choices, especially when it comes to offals and unusual meat cuts.
@@Macoi24 to be honest, even before you eat it, I thought the beef soup does not looked appetizing to me. It looks like they added too much cornstarch to thicken up the stew.

Max, you are getting better and better buddy!! The immersive filming, the storytelling, the rhythm, the silences, congrats from a 20 years pro film editor....no fuzz, no buzz, no glam, just real emotions, basic but yet respectful chatting with the cooks.....almost smelling and tasting every bite!!!

I think for the beef stew, you probably anticipated more Vietnamese flavors (like a bo kho) and when it tasted just like something you can have in the US, you were disappointed? The bun cha looks amazing and OMG, I'd be at that fried place all day every day! Her fried goods looks superb! The women of Hanoi are very beautiful as has been mentioned by others in the past.

I love your honesty and the fact that you didn’t like the stew too much was because it didn’t have the Vietnamese flavour and was too western tasting. Your taste buds have become vietnamese all the way lol. And of course I’m always impressed with how much chilli you can eat. That bun cha Hanoi looked so good! 🤤

Wine has been Vietnamised as Vang (French influenced) Sot Vang means beef marinated with Wine Sauce. The Hanoian usually marinate beef with red wine before braising.

Talking about something you don't want to eat ....life in North America is so busy, my mom cooked 2-3 times a week, and those food stayed in the fridge for rotation, you see them again and again and again for that week, sometimes for 2 weeks if they're overcooked. I love the randomness you see on the streets of Vietnam, you craved something but by the time you hit the street you eat something else.

my favorite Buncha and Banh Chuoi spot in Hanoi! I have been living just in a corner of Hang Than str. so I did Bun cha during lunch and Banh Khoai after school :D, almost everday. Beautiful people who just love the work they are doing

That Tram bread shop, I'm a local and it's not good to eat, many people see it crowded, they just come in to eat, but it's not necessarily so delicious. Your taste is perfect, Max
don’t feel bad about experiencing food that you don’t like and express about it lol. Tbh, the places that I went to by followig the recomendation on the internet like “lots of celebreties ate here” are mostly crappy lol.

It’s ok not to like something Max. I know exactly how wine sauce tasted from just looking at it. The only thing you have eaten that I actually know the taste. Now the last spot looked looked like the bomb damn it I’m jealous in a good way of course.

Max, you have a vietnamese palate. Hot, spicy, salty, sweet. Nothing wrong with a beef stew, but there are so much more in vietnam.
I went to the same bun cha place when I was in Hanoi ! We sat in the same seat too! Lol
Bun cha Hanoi is the crack that runs thru my veins that I can never get enough of, fresh aromatic and addicting. I agree with you that's not one of my favorite meal too, my wife makes it and so does my MIL.

Ah tiện là e nói thật đồ ăn Hà Nội càng ngày càng công nghiệp, họ chú trọng tới số lượng chứ k phải chất lượng. Do người dân các nơi đổ về nữa, họ cũng rất dễ dãi với ẩm thực Hà Nội. Kiểu như khách chiều quán quá quán hư. Không như ở miền Trung và miền Nam, rất đậm vị và rất ngon. E ở HN 20 năm rồi mới vào SG đc 1 năm và e mê món ăn trong này cực kỳ vì ngon heeee
