  • An in-depth review of all the maintenance, upgrades, and modifications performed during my 27-month ownership period of a base 2009 Porsche Cayman.
Powered by a 2.9-liter, port-injected flat-6 engine mated to a 6-speed manual, the 987.2 Cayman is highly regarded as reliable and well-balanced with classic styling that still turns heads. A true canyon carver thanks to mid-engine handling and hydraulic steering.

Very nice walk around and talk through historically. Love the car. Feel like I know it after reading all the threads and viewing the videos.

Wish I knew you were going to sell. 🙂

Well I'm currently selling my XJR (another video on my channel). Experts say a supercharged V8 is the best feeder engine to a NA flat 6. 😂

Just bought an 09 cayman base with 95K for 21 grand, has yours been reliable? I know you said its mechanically perfect, anything you think i should look out for?

Congrats, that's a pretty good price! The 9A1 engines in the 987.2 are very reliable, but still need to be maintained. Do you have any service records? If not, recommend you address the water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, and plugs (hopefully they've been replaced at least once by now).
Like me, you may have to replace the air-oil separator if you start seeing blue smoke on startups, but in general there's no major part that's known to go bad (e.g. IMS bearing).
At that mileage, your suspension could use a refresh but that's not so much a reliability concern, just age doing its thing.
