So glad I never bought an RV as I was thinking of doing. I realize not all are bad, but I've decided to spend my senior years participating in activities, rather than traveling. It costs less to find great activites, has less headaches and easier to control. Plus, there are more health benefits if you choose active things to do. I have Liz to thank for this.

Sorry to hear that. It's mostly the ones made in the past four years that are bad. Not a good time to buy new, but trailers and fifth wheels built in 2018 and before tend to be well-built. The motorhome sweet spot is 2002 to 2008. Before you buy, join the Facebook group of the model to get the scoop from owners. And always get an inspection. Another advantage of buying used is the seller has typically gotten the kinks out. Thanks for watching. For more about what to buy used see my recent video: czcams.com/video/JSo5n2B62MA/video.html

Gentool - Yep, same here! I have too many other hobbies that compete for my time, so RVing with it's risks and hassles aren't worth it. Even if you find a reliable camper or RV. Cleaning and storing are a hassle. With the advent of Ebikes, it's so much better and in many cases...cheaper, to just rent a hotel room and ebike either inside the national parks for the day with a backpack. In some cases the hotels are close enough to ebike to the park itself.

Liz actually has scared some of these manufacturers to the point that they have offered her sponsorships to take down some of her videos. The RV industry is not as big as the auto industry and is very much affected by CZcams and these companies like Alliance know it, and have benefited financially from it. I think Alliance needs to do the same thing and make their own frames. Lippert is a garbage company and they own too much of the RV market. People are complaining about Grand Design frames failing but they are actually Lippert frames on Grand Design RVs. Nobody cares! If Alliance or Grand Design buy the frame and put their name on it, then it's not a Lippert frame anymore, it's a Grand Design or Alliance frame. They can pass the buck all they want but if an RV says Alliance on it, then every component is their responsibility. That's why they need to cut out Lippert and make their own frames.

RV'ing lessons learned over many years convinced me that we will NEVER sell our base-home to become full-time RV'ers. And this video emphasizes one big reason: if your rig ends up in the shop for an extended period of time, you become "homeless" and will be hemorrhaging dollar bills for who knows how long. And when it happens 'cuz you put out a lot of money for what turns out to be an attractive but cheap-quality RV, it's a real slap in the face. I'll say it again = Why doesn't the NHTSA or other government agency straighten out the scuzzy players in the RV construction industry?

For sure the biggest issue with these very large RVs is the inadequate frame design, horrible quality control and low quality materials used, but it also needs to be pointed out that 35+ foot long, light weight boxes bouncing down the highway at 60mph is a recipe for disaster. That there are two or three 10,000lb axles underneath really means nothing when only 4-5 feet in the center of a 35+ foot box that is directly supported by those axles. Frame flex is a given on this kind of a design, at these lengths. With frame flex, the "box" will certainly, eventually start to come apart. The only real solution is to settle for a more reasonably sized RV. Having a large house on wheels is not practical from an engineering standpoint.

I saw something in a video on how Lippert build these frames. Lippert does NOT make the beams they only weld them together. My concern is how they use the beams. If I want a 5' 2 x 4, I take one that is longer than that and cut it to 5'. Lippert is taking the beams they receive and welding them into 1 continuous beam. They then cut whatever length they need. so one trailer may have a solid 30' beam and the next could have a weld in the middle. I don't care how good the weld is, it's not as strong as a solid beam

Funny how other brands of RVs have better quality frames without the issues!
Even if the RV company asks for a particular type of construction, does not mean the likes of Lippert should accept it as good ,and their expertise would surely give them the clout to advice that the design is weak ?
Imagine if all the heavy transportation trailers towed behind trucks had the same issues, imagine 60,000 80,000 or 100,000 lbs traveling down the road and the trailer carrying that load starts to crack, twist and part detach!

Great work, Liz!!! Thanks for all that you do! Being that there's so much RV junk out there, have you considered doing a separate channel for each brand of RV? For instance "Liz - Forest River", "Liz - Grand Design", etc. That way a prospective buyer could watch the Liz channel for the brand they're interested in to see what they're in for. I bet that'd get the MFGs attention in a hurry and maybe make them behave better. I would have loved to see something like that before I bought my new Forest River rolling crap pile. Just a thought and keep up the great work!

I may be wrong...but the frame specs are set (by the company name on the unit) and not the frame fabricator. So the frame fabricators are just following specs set out by the engineers from the (unit company name).

    • @Tatiacha
      @Tatiacha Před 2 měsíci +2

yeah that is the question though is Lippert welding correctly are they using good quality steel, and so forth. They may look like they meet the engineering specs but if even 1 in 20 has severe welding flaws then we could have the issue we have. Now if that is the case and I was a manufacturer I would hire people who inspect each frame when it is brought to the floor checking every weld before they do anything with it and if the welds look crappy send it back to Lippert and refuse to build on it. So it may be under engineering for weight considerations, crappy work at Lippert or both.

This seems to be all too common, were the RV manufacturer (Alliance) points to a component supplier (Lippert) and vice versa.
And the buyer is stuck in the middle, out their time and expenses.
One of the more reputable Class B manufacturers loves to tout their 5 year warranty. But it covers practically nothing, because they always fall back on the separate warranties from individual components (typically one year or less).

If it is Lippert, and these RV manufacturers want to regain our trust they need to file a collective lawsuit against Lippert and put their feet to the fire.

@@OmahaWayne those kinds of lawsuits happen in the background all the time while business goes on as usual. That being said there are other manufactures that make their own frames, they are already doing the engineering if they cared about the survival of their business why would they not start to head in that direction instead of allowing Lippert to destroy their business with shoddy work. If you are getting substandard parts from a supplier you either find a new supplier, make the part yourself, or do something to get that supplier to up their standards and quality control.

    Hi Liz,
Alliance is actually a great company. The dealership I work for picked up the brand because of the way they took care of a trailer that we received as a trade-in. It was well out of warranty and we reached out to them only for guidance in repairing the slide issue we were having prior to reselling it. Those guys were awesome. They said we are going to come pick it up and repair it free of charge. And they did. It so impressed our companies owners that we picked up the brand. As you know no RV is perfect but it's how you respond to a problem that defines you. And they have definitely been there for us and our customers so far. I love their products for their innovative ideas and outside the box thinking. Kind of reminds me of that beautiful Alfa See Ya you're rocking! Alfa Leisure was way ahead of its time. When I first started working in the RV industry at PPL Motorhomes over 20 years ago it was a beautiful Alfa See Ya Gold that became my first RV love! Love your work!

Will they build you a new trailer on a different frame other than Lippert? We RVed for 10 years in two RV’s, a KZ and Jayco. Fortunately there were no major problems and the minor ones they immediately took care of under warranty. A VERY THOROUGH pre delivery inspection is a must. We spent three hours inspecting everything (including testing every outlet). We told the dealer the day before picking we would be testing and running every system and inspecting in, under and on top of the trailer. I think that was motivation for them to make sure there wouldn’t be any obvious issues we would find. Of course identifying an issue with the frame is difficult to do. I’m not sure how you can protect yourself in that situation. Some things you just have to trust that the manufacturer did it right.

I saw a video of a couple looking for an RV that I thought was pretty interesting and worth sharing the details with you folks.
What they did might not be for everyone but for anyone looking to save a buck, perhaps it's worth checking into it for yourself.
I've seen a lot of advice about if you buy an RV, by one built before the pandemic because quality and craftsmanship went out of the window for some reason.
Many say it is best to buy a used RV, one where someone else has already worked out all of the kinks.
Both make good sense but there is another alternative.
The video of the couple buying the RV was interesting because they chose a place that rents RVs and then eventually sells them after a time when they get in new inventory.
The RVs they sell are all originally built from the factory to be rentals.
They don't have carpet, instead they have marine grade flooring for easier cleaning.
The steps leading into the camper aren't the cheap fold up metal kind that get damaged on the curb by someone not used to driving an RV.
They are built into the cabin like it would be on a school bus.
All of the textiles on the cushions were waterproof.
All of the appliances were a higher quality than an average RV because the rental lot didn't want to have to mess with fixing those things constantly.
Whenever they sell one of those rentals, they remove all of the gaudy graphics and repaint the entire RV in a crisp clean white.
I must say, it was beautiful.
From what I could see everything inside and outside looked as if it were brand new.
All of they're RVs get regularly scheduled check ups and servicing.
The one they were looking at didn't even have high milage.
If I remember correctly to buy that same RV new, WITHOUT all of the extra additions that come with it for being a rental would be well above $100,000 but because it was used and a rental they were only asking less than half of that.
I'm sure that video is still on CZcams somewhere if you look for it.
Personally if you can find a place like that, I can't think of a better way to go.
If I had not seen that video I would have given up my dream a long time ago about owning an RV and seeing the country, based on all of the negative things I've seen in so many RV videos.
That one video gives me hope.

Too many issues, and a lot more to look after n maintain, and if u 'opps' took the wrong road, no nibble turns there! Fifth wheel, you're going to semi gas stations...not the convenient little gas stations, cause u wont get out lol; finding a nights stay, well pull over anywhere in truck camper, in fact you could even park on a residential street for the night n get away with it, but not with a fifth wheel! And camping at any rv park, you fit anywhere...but not the fifth wheel. And with a 5er or a TT, now you got trailer wheels and more leaf springs to look after too. And faster to wash a truck camper, need a couple more hours with a 5er! Need to get groceries, no problem any grocery store parking lot, not with a 5er, you're looking for big empty non-landscaped type parking lots 🙄. I can go on, but thinking of a 5er or TT again, i'm pooped lol. 🍻

So they bought in February 2023 equals over a year. Also, were they saying ALL those solar panels were put on by the Factory OR The dealer. Also towing that with a single rear wheel SRW pickup. Hmmmm. Now add how many batteries, how many panels, plus TWO Motorcyles, and two electric bikes, and one of their other videos shows both a washer and a dryer in the back of the Valor. Plus full time with two people. Is it me, or does something with this story seem off a little bit, like Weight, and with all that weight, and an SRW truck, this seems to be an outlier to me. And of course Alliance will take care of them, they rock. But this does not add up? HERE IS THE MISSING PIECE. Every RV Maker needs to disclose how much weight can go where. Front Storage, Basement, Garage, each slide, etc... I highly doubt this was all on Alliance in this particular case. Go watch their leaving Quartzsite video, and see what is in their back. RV Broke is their channel name. Gold Wing alone is over 900 lbs, plus their other Honda. What % of the total weight was in the back. Hmmmmm... Makes one think.

Go DRV FUllHouse, it has 3 stack frames and in between are American cheese. This rv is the way to go when hauling anything heavy in the garage. Aliance now then Brisket might follow suit. I'll take DRV FullHouse as a fulltimer for six years and counting.

One unit we purchased had passenger car tires on it that was not even rated for the weight of the trailer. one i wound up putting an A C on and then after the new one done the same thing I looked at it and found out that the factory did not cut the duct holes so that the air could flow through. This last one a class A has a new rear end at only 6 thousand miles. craftsmen ship is no where to be found these days. I was a welder-fabricator for years, and i repaired stock trailers and equipment trailers for friends and my self like the guy here i repair most of my own. The rear end Ford took care of it took about a week getting parts. So thanks to ford.

I have the same model from Alliance, and I have had life threatening issues as well! Electrical issues, unknown wiring issues, build quality, pex piping bad installation. I have been trying for over a year to fix these things while struggling to keep up with it myself.
