indeed. it's not quite the same way he loses to shredder, where they both have the same exact skill set, but shredder did a few more years of training, but it is totally what an out-of-practice ninja will do against a street fighter on home turf, will do to a man he's several weight classes above. Bane is just that bit bigger, with longer reach, and a harder punch. But, then again, i'd have liked to see this Bane try to fight someone who's 6'7 and close to 300lbs - those categories are in fighting sports for a reason.

What a scene. All that training, all the gadgets, strength that is still incredible -- and Bane just walks through it while casually explaining why he's winning. Best part is, it's not a bunch of bull whipped up by bad writers. It's well written and everything he says makes sense. No one is the best forever. You punch hard, somewhere there's a guy who punches harder. You know the dark, somewhere there's a guy who knows it better. Bane is that guy, simple as that.

The best line in this whole scene for me is: ''Theatricality and deception. Powerful agents to the uninitiated. But we are initiated. Aren't we Bruce?''
That's when Batman realizes that everything he learned, everything he uses, everything he knows and does will not work on Bane. You can see this realization and you can see he is afraid after that. He then tries to use his greatest asset. Dark. And that's when Bane breaks him before actually breaking his back by taking that away from him too. He now knows that for this guy he needs something else, something more. One of the greatest scenes in Batman history. Not just movies, but overall.

I agree with the principle, but thats not what happened to Wayne. Unlike most comic heroes, Bruce is human. He is highly trained and skilled, but by this point, his health had deteriorated. His body had taken years of punishment to the point where he had no cartilage in his knees, his joints were shot, he was older, slower, etc. Bane meanwhile was in his prime, twice the size, etc. Thats part of what made this Batman so compelling. He was human, vulnerable, and able to be defeated.

I agree, not to take anything away from Tom Hardy he is a brilliant actor and worked his ass off to put on some serious muscle for this role. I wish they would have use some one with a larger built for the scene that were close ups of Tom. Overall Hardy's bane was great. A true alpha. He mixed the intelligence with that confident/cocky walk beautifully.

+DrScaphandre But even in the comic, Bane only used venom in one story arc. Even then he stopped taking venom all together, and went toe to toe against Batman without venom. In the movie, he did have chemical enhancements. His mask had anesthetic which made him resistant to pain. That's why Batman's hits had little to no effect on him.

If your a Batman fan especially with these trilogy of movies.. this is emotionally devastating to watch our hero get destroyed like this. Bane was like letting Batman throw his best barely defending himself. Scarecrow and the Joker were not physical threats to Batman but Bane just like hurt our feelings beating Batman so bad. Sorry, but none of Christopher Nolan's Batman films can claim to have great fight scenes. In fact, Nolan's Batman films can actually claim to have some of the worst and most uninteresting fight choreography in film history. The Keysi Fighting Method, which Nolan and his team used for the fight scenes, looks like some of the crudest, sloppiest stances and techniques ever seen. The Batman of the comics fights with speed, agility, elegance, and precision, not like some street thug. Batman of the comics fights like Lyoto Machida, but Nolan's Batman is more like Tito Ortiz.

Well it's probably very difficult to move in that Batsuit so they had to improvise with a more rudimentary fighting method. You can do alot when you're wearing regular clothes but not nearly as precise of movement in a "batsuit costume"

  • @afs3476

The best thing about this scene is how much we can actually relate to it, as much as willing and determined Batman wants to take out Bane he just can’t, through every struggle he still tries to get up and even uses many accessories to get an advantage but he just can’t , his sheer will keeps him going but it’s just not enough ,bane even acknowledges this by saying his “fighting like a younger man”. Sometimes we’re put in situation where as much as we want to succeed we’re gonna fail and it’s devastating.

That's what Batman is. He's a ninja (kind of) and the best martial artist in the DCU. That's one of the things Nolan fucked up with when making Batman for this trilogy. The fighting and the fact that he rarely displays his genius level intellect and depends on Lucius Fox way too much.

ApocalyptikKat There are all different versions of Bats, he originally was not a ninja remember. I think his fighting skills here are appropriate. It amazes me how garbage the Marvel films are yet no one is truly critical of them....anything DC does then everyone becomes and ultra-critic....ugh Also Batman needs help, I find it refreshing and more realistic that he needs help to fight crime.
I love it all, I love in the 89 movie when he is blocking all of those swipes by the guy with the swords and I love this version and this fight with Bane. Not everything has to repeat in the same way, in the comics Batman was not a ninja even in his TV life the serials and the 66 show he was not a ninja just a skilled brawler.
