I'm glad that this movie never received any sequels so far, since it's a perfect standalone, but it deserves more love than it gets.
Had it on my list forever with no idea what to expect. Finally gave it a watch and it’s one of my favorite movies I’ve seen in a long time. Very engaging but also super funny
All because for Angry Birds Beating The Nice Guys at the Box Office.
Nah they make sequels to garbage ass movies. A sequel to this is easy
*I agree... AND it's a Shane Black film... he was the golden child in the 80s-90s of action scripts!!!
still wouldn't mind a spin off
I'm assigning 10k sins to Jeremy for not taking off enough sins for this movie. Too many funny lines or situations didn't even get referenced, let alone appreciated.
The most realistic thing about this script is the idea that Amelia is a really brilliant kid whose plans don't work for the fact that she's a kid. She makes great plans based on what a kid would know about the world in the 70s and fail due to what a kid WOULDN'T know in the 70s.
Underrated comment!
Explain
I remember thinking that Gosling was in a comedy and Crow was in a gritty crime film. The tone difference between their scenes was so funny
When people were crapping on Ryan Gosling playing Ken before the Barbie movie came out, my response was always “Have you not seen him in The Nice Guys??!!”.
This was me but with Robert Pattinson, Batman, and The Lighthouse
What about "Crazy Stupid Love" also? I love that movie haha
Pre-Drive Ryab Gosling was the clichéd pretty-boy actor, but since then, he just keeps knocking it out of the park, becoming one of my favourite actors
Angourie Rice really stole the show away from Gosling and Crowe, as the precocious daughter. This was her first major role, and she absolutely pulled it off, with a convincing American accent. She's actually Australian in real life, believe it or not.
Fuck I never knew she was Australian !
What's convincing about her accent? I am an 'American' who has lived in seven different states and 22 cities. Or is it some generic, non 'British', non 'Australian' but easily understandable compromise?
I wouldn't say she stole the show from them, they're both great actors, but her performance here was brilliant
That’s incredible.
Check out These Final Hours a great Australian apocalypse movie.
its bittersweet this movie wont get a sequel; on one hand its better as a standalone film, on another i want a sequel 😭
If everyone who complains about Hollywood "not making original movies" went to see this movie it would have been a box office hit!
One Of the bodypaint Makeup Artists Here:
Fun fact, the house party was shot in Atlanta over almost 3 weeks. It was in the 30s and everyone was freezing.
Another scene:
The mermaids Ryan dives in after were bodypainted at first but the safety divers kept destroying the makeup so Shane killed the Makeup and they just went with tails. Have a funny picture with one of the stunt women over my shoulder getting her tail slid on. :)
That's so neat to hear some behind the scenes facts. Did you get to talk to any of the other main actors?
@trinaq We were all in a stones throw of Ryan and Russell, but no conversations. However, I had to duck into a room to get out of a shot with a few others and Angourie was chilling in there with her guardian at the time. Pleasant chat. She was cool.
Apparently Crowe was the one giving Gosling advice on how to do that scene in the bathroom. Such a good pairing
I remember going into this movie thinking it was going to be not very funny, or good. I couldn't see the two actors playing off each other well.
Boy, was I wrong...I was pleasantly surprised at this movie! It was funny!
Same here.
I too was pleasantly surprised.
I'm a HUGE Shane Black fan (writer/director of this film) and he's good at pairing up mismatched characters... he did Lethal Weapon (Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) the Last Boy Scout (Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Val Kilmer and Robert Downy Jr) with all that being said... never underestimate his castings 😆
@@shanenolan085
That's a very good point.
I never even considered that.
@@shanenolan085
I forgot Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
was Shane Black.
Great movie.
@@shanenolan085
I've never been very keen on Gibson, Wayans or Kilmer
but when paired with their respective partners
they work really well.
I suppose chemistry goes a long way.
This movie is so underrated.
You should have taken a sin off for him covering Misty with his shirt. That's a real gentleman move
Hey... I appreciate your critiques of durability, but as a guy who's weathered A LOT of crazy physical shit (war bullets and explosions, backyard wrestling, competitive fighting, random stupid amateur stunts, major car accidents) with little to no injury to this day at 42 years old, let me tell you... this absurd flesh sack design we ride life in is pretty impressively tough. So here's 400 sins for undermining all the testing I've put it through. And 500 to me for commenting with a paragraph!
Ding!
The Abbott and Costello bit with the corpse down the hill was absolute gold.
This movie is so good. It still blows my mind more people haven't seen it. Wtf was the marketing for this film?
Hey hey hey whoa, don't you dare blame me, Jeremy. I did my part, I saw the movie thrice in theaters, bought the Blu-ray, bought the 4K digital copy, etc. Maybe you didn't do your part, gotdammit
@13:22 You missed a sin. In 1977 the 911 service was not available in most places. Only 36% of the US had it, mostly in the Midwest.
Nicely done. In fact, it wouldn't come to Los Angeles until 7 years after this film is set. We demand a recount!
I know no movie is without sin, but this movie is perfect
My immediate reaction upon seeing this video pop up was "Get the fuck outta here." Haven't started it yet, but I will not accept anything above negative sins.
That's goddamn right!
Very pleased to know Jeremy is a Gosling stan. We should all be Gosling stans.
I absolutely fucking love this movie. This movie is WHY I gave Barbie a chance. Which was hilarious itself, and Gosling makes both better
And actually they found out Jackson knew Amelia because Amelia called Jackson from Dean's place, and then she goes to Sid's. I would have been a good detective, Jeremy not so much lol
This is a solid contender for my favorite movie of all time... I got a tattoo of "you will never be happy" with the "never" smudged away on my hand
6:25 my sentiments EXACTLY when i see the Scream films 😂😂😂😂😂 the killer is always FAST, STRONG, and makes MINIMAL mistakes... THEN when they reveal themselves...they get clumsy and cant do shit 😂😂
The scene where Gosling hides behind a car on a turntable and is rotated back toward his enemy is worth a sin off. Also the scream when Crowe breaks his arm.
i love how in most movies ive seen, there always seems to be some random words splurged along the newspapers in hopes no one will see it 😂CinemaSins is always watching every detail!
If I made a movie I would hide a "Sin this, Jeremy" in the background 😉
These two need to work together again. Both have got comedic timing and chops. The best Crowe has been in years
How could y'all forget bout Gosling's tribute to Abbot n Costello when he rolls downhill next to the dead guy during the party?
Because it was amazing and not a sin?
@@CinemaSinshahaha touche
@@CinemaSins Like the other comment said.. Touché... Fkn luv you guys! Thank you for all the years of entertainment btw
I love that RDJ has the cameo there as Sid Shattock
@@CinemaSins BTW! Sry, random ADD... Why not take a sin off if it was amazing? Lol not tryna bust y'allz bawls
It's not a tattoo, it's pen and gets washed off partially later and says you will be happy.
Full of holes but still a comedy masterpiece, way under-rated.
Ryan Gosling personifies why he is the best comedic working actor today because of a movie like this
He personifies a person..... 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I only watched this a couple months ago when I saw it on Netflix and it made me regret the fact that I hadn't seen it sooner.
So he immediately pointed out the "quick and the dead" reunion but doesn't point out the "l.a. confidential" reunion? If he does let me know
How could you gloss over the neighbor being shot, and nothing further happening with that? One of the best bits in this movie, which is full of em. Very under rated
“The gentlemen” movie next please
"RESPECT THE GOSLING!" 😎
Love this movie. Shayne Black is unmatched as a buddy cop writer. Creates the best chemistry, banter, and dynamics.
We need a third guy/guys movie with Ryan Gosling and then we have the Ryan Gosling Guy trilogy we've always wanted!
I see what you did there!
I want a sequel to this one just to hang out with those guys some more. Loved it!
This movie's extremely ambiguous 1978 sign, that was actually advertising the 1978 Auto Show, strung more people along than the art of ventriloquism and ballet combined.
I've waited so long for this, thank you
Your content vibe is just right, keep it up
I love this movie and deserves a sequel but unfortunately it wasn't received well at the time
The names on the comedy store sign are just easter eggs lol
My day always gets better when you upload. Edit: I never get likes on my comments, thanks guys!
hey, so that switch on both sides of the room, very common at the time, especially in efficiency apartments
I wouldn’t have been mad about getting a 2nd movie
Man this movie is timeless
I don't know if you read your comments or have someone do it lol... When the next fast and furious movie comes out, please do the "10 of these things" but "11, 12, 13 of these things" 😂... Best bit ever!
Thanks for another brilliant video Cinemasins
You are welcome.
The gun/window scene will always kill me. 😂
3:37 Can you believe this woman started her acting career in 1951 and still rocking at the age of 94. One sin off for one of the greatest character actresses, Lois Smith.
I'm glad you folks have finally done this film. It's a great one and a favorite of mine!
I'm crossing my finger Jeremy because I love this movie. It's one of my go-to movies if I get bored and I can't find something good to watch.
2:23 That's a great catch. I never noticed those signatures when I watched this movie.
I use to love this channel but i grew tired of focusing on the negatives of absolutely every movie or show so i just dont watch it nearly as much as i used to
Wow, missing the point by a mile. Complaining about CinemaSins being negative is like complaining about CinemaWins being positive.
Cool.
Please do Richard Scarry's Best Counting Video Ever
Such an excellent movie. One of my favorites.
Been on my list to watch for years.
I finally watched it like two days ago and then this comes out.
Uncanny!😄
Not gonna lie the Nixon joke is a brilliant bit.
@06:24 -Heyy, Billy Strings!!
this movie was gold. i still rewatch it
Everything great about cinemasins
CinemaWins, the best channel.
favourite movie, glad ur finally doing this
This movie is genuinely so hilarious
Cutting in the La La Land footage while they were in the cab, editing done to perfection
saw this in theatre, instant favorite
7:56 Had me saying that for WEEKS 😆 "its not my nose that grows" 😂😂 but they had the long nose so youd KNOW it was Pinocchio
17:55 Keith David 👑
19:34 I love Shane Black, too, tho 😂😂
I think it wouldn't be fishicide but something Latin like pescicide.
9:45 but whose orders WAS he following? HE WAS THE LEADER OF THE ARMY! "he" was the one GIVING the orders.
I fcking LOVE this movie! Shane Black's writing & the platonic chemistry between Gosling and Crowe is golden. I enjoyed Ryan Gosling before this movie. After this, he joined Prince & Idris Alba on my "I'm not gay, but..." list.
Great video, fellas!
Busto: I'm not gay, but I totally fantasize about these 3 dudes '+ it's a list, there'll be more'....
Dude, you're gay. NTTAWWT
I was hoping to get a reference to Aunt Mae from Twister, but I got a That Thing You Do reference instead. Even better.
You didn’t remove a sin for the greatest male scream in cinema since Wilhelm! 1000 sins for your obvious oversight.
I feel like some of these sims, like the bizarre coincidences and Holland being an idiot, are more like actual thematic elements in the film
Sinning cinema sins: it’s not littering apples are biodegradable 🤣
Great chemistry between the leads.
There is also a novelization if anyone is interested.
1:30 That's not a tattoo as you can see the "never" part of it washed off later in the film.
They made a point of showing this.
Dope.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang next
I think you should do one for ‘Unfrosted’ next
Love this movie. So much fun.
Best fun buddy movie in a long time
I love CinemaSins. But I also love "The Nice Guys".
9:45 😂. A line just like that was on Family Guy.
The green guy was on stilts and appears earlier when they're entering the party. I think it's just another character from one of Sid's adult films. The 70s was freaky.
Oh snap, a Sneakers sound bite!?
Just a suggestion for a video at the suggestion for Alvida, like Ronald, let’s be cops as big cop
That was one hell of a movie. Jesus Christ. It's still one of my favorites
This is #2 on my list of movies that should have sequels already, right behind Demolition Man.
This reminds me more than a little bit of the movie, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Would love to see a CinemaSins of that movie!!
It's as if they were written and directed by the same guy.....
@@danjonmills WOW. I feel like an idiot. How did I not know that?!
You should have made this your very last video since nice guys finish last.
SUCH an underappreciated movie!
I watched this movie with my mom, not knowing what it was about. We picked it because it had Gosling and Crowe, and it was FUCKING DELIGHTFUL. The sins are legit, but I appreciate the removals, well deserved!
It's the 70's. Everyone was driving drunk.
For a future American tail 2 video:
1.during the cat attack when Tanya (and her family) are thrown out of her house you can notice that the authors decided to leave her without underwear in the sequel, they openly show that she has nothing under her skirt (2. The same happens in the scene when Tanya falls in the powder puff); 3.when Tanya dances in the bar you can notice that her big muscular body (from the past shots) has turned into a thin female waist (her legs especially became longer), how is it possible?
Still my favorite Gosling film
5:25 after going some searching, this Vality Fair article does not seem to exist
**DING!**
I laughed hard at the bathroom scene, and I’ve seen this movie several times before. That’s how funny it is.
you can clearly tell he's having a hard time sinning this movie because he adores it
How dare you attack the Nice Guys!
