  • I just returned from the Cub's first moto-camping trip, and I'm headed to the motorcycle store to pick up the rack for my Super Cub. Skip to the bottom of the description for clickable time indexes.
    I compare the 2016 Honda PCX150 to the 2019 Honda Super Cub in terms of comfort, acceleration, top speed, and general usability as a commuter machine. The PCX150 wins most of these categories in terms of practicality, so I think the PCX is a better general-purpose commuter.
    However, the Super Cub is not out of the race quite yet. The Cub is a different machine, so you should have different expectations. The Cub is more engaging to ride because of the shifting. The Cub is also returning ~30% better fuel economy at 132.7 mpg average (101.7 mpg average for the PCX). It also wins the cool factor and looks sexier, in my opinion!
    Time indexes:
    0:00 : Riding over to Wild West Motoplex to pick up the rear rack for the Super Cub
    2:20 : Comparing seating and foot position on the PCX vs the Cub
    2:50 : Acceleration comparison to the Super Cub
    4:22 : The PCX has a 2.1 gallon tank vs the Cub's 1.0 gallon
    5:12 : My fuel recording routine again, pics of mileage and receipt to enter into Fuelly.com
    5:51 : The Cub has better factory suspension and ride quality than the PCX... I upgraded the suspension on this PCX to improve it, but the spring rate on the YSS shocks are a little too high for a 170-pound rider
    7:17 : This PCX is mechanically stock, only has the Akrapovič slip-on exhaust, and it gets better economy than my 2015 Honda PCX150 that has a stock exhaust
    8:20 : Getting up on the highway, 63 mph factory speed/rev-limiter
    9:45 : PCX acceleration and merging into traffic... 0-50 mph is very quick
    10:20 : Hard braking from 50-10, PCX doesn't have ABS but the braking performance is very good and the modulation is effortless
    10:38 : Dismounting the PCX and using the side stand... again it's effortless (the Cub needs a side stand)
    11:26 : Overview and walkaround of the PCX150
    12:25 : Another acceleration run up to 60 mph before merging onto the freeway (and I wasn't at wide-open throttle)
    12:57 : Mirror and visibility comparison between PCX and Cub
    14:30 : Scooters are fantastic for running errands... just park them anywhere... quick on, quick off

    When you first introduce me to a Honda Super Cub I was pretty on fire for it. Perfect for running the streets around Houston. But when I think about my 240 lb I think maybe the PCX is better. And they seem to be the same price.🇨🇱

      Yeah, the prices are fairly close between the two. The Cub is more fun to ride, but the PCX certainly has more power and a bit more legroom. 👍 --QM

      Thx for the feedback! I have a few more PCX150 vs Super Cub comparison videos that I want to upload. I think these two bikes are a natural comparison because both of them are in the Honda lineup, they have similar displacement, and they will probably attract the same type of buyer/rider. I have the unique perspective of owning both bikes, so it's easy to ride them back-to-back and make the comparisons. Let me know if you have any specific questions or suggestions, and I will be happy to assist! --QM

    I know I speak for many who've tuned in to this video. Thank you for taking the time and energy to present all this, it's greatly appreciated. I don't own a PCX yet, but it's something I have wanted for many years. I plan to pull the trigger soon though! I am looking at a 2019/2020 when I do. I saw another video where I believe the suspension has been improved (back shocks) with the model year 2019, but don't hold me to that. I know with prior model years the ride/shocks have led to the negative riding experiences, so hopefully, that's been addressed now. I live in Ohio and the roads and area look very similar to where I would be riding, although I won't be going on the highway if I can help it. I will mainly use it to casually cruise around the neighborhoods and back roads. I am in no hurry and this is why I want a scooter. I've owned motorcycles in my life but as I get older, twist-n-go seems to be my interest now. So, until I get my own PCX I ride vicariously through your video. :) Keep them coming! Be safe out there and I made notes of everything in all the replies as it's been valuable information. Stay safe! - Scott

      Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad that this comparison series is useful to people. The Cub and PCX aren't really in the same league because the PCX's motor makes nearly 60% more power. Nevertheless, they are Honda's entry-level bikes so I thought that people might like to see how these bikes are to live with under real-world conditions. The PCX's ride has always been a bit harsh, but the new ADV150 looks really interesting: powersports.honda.com/street/scooter/adv150 . The ADV150 is basically a reskinned PCX with new gauges, plastics, and upgraded suspension that has 5.1" of travel in front and 4.7" in the rear. So, that added suspension travel should really help tame the bumps... it should prove to be a much better commuter bike over rough city streets. I'm considering trading in one of my PCX's on the ADV150 in late June (or whenever it arrives here in the USA). My two "dream" scooters from Honda are the 2019+ Forza 300 and the 2017+ X-ADV 750, but we probably will never see those bikes over on this side of the pond due to historically poor scooter sales in the USA. Cheers, and good luck with your upcoming scooter purchase! 👍 --QM

      If you're in the USA, then check your local CraigsList pages to see if you can snag one for a good price... if you're trying to save money, that is. Occasionally, I'll find the 2015-up PCX150's for sale with a few dings and low mileage for $1500-1800. They are extremely reliable, so even a high-mileage unit (10K miles or more) isn't a problem... they will likely last 40-50K miles with average maintenance. They are usually wrecked or abandoned in someone's garage long before that kind of mileage. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    My dad has a PCX125. Good bikes indeed and more practical for riding on sealed roads.
    I had a worse experience with my YSS suspension update on the Wave. When I moved from their G2 to G4 rear shocks and fork update, they were ridiculously hard.
    I fixed the front by drilling out the ports and use 10w instead of the suggested 20w forkoil.
    The shocks got fixed by a suspension guy who filled them with 3w oil.
    Now they're perfect!

I'm in nyc so it's mostly driving from red light to red light 😆, i save a lot on gas though. I'm getting like close to 90-100mpg and it beats the subway or bus. I think for the city this bike is pretty sweet. In the future for longer trips and highways and stuff I think a bigger scooter would be nice for me, preferably something with some wide tires because of pot holes and stuff.

      Thx for the feedback! The PCX is a great scoot, and they are as reliable as a hammer. I really wish that Honda would bring the new 2018+ Forza 300 to the USA. It's a bit larger, more powerful, and it could replace several of my bikes as a do-it-all commuter. Sadly, I don't think we'll get it here because scooter sales are historically very low in the USA, and Honda still has plenty of the older Forza's (fairly bloated and ugly, IMHO) sitting in warehouses. Thanks for the videos on the PCX150. You helped me decide to get one. Getting a new 2019 model. Funny story though, as I was getting on it to drive off the dealership lot, I noticed that the fuel gauge showed empty. Didn't want to leave without my full tank of gas. Turned out it was full and the gauge wasn't working right. Took them about an hour to find the problem. I didn't quite catch exactly what the problem was, but sounded like they have to order a new fuel pump because that had something to do with the fuel gauge. They gave me the option to go ahead and take it home and wait for the new part to come in but I decided to leave it there until the get it fixed. So as of now, I've only ridden it from one side of the dealership building to the service side. In that short 200 feet or so, it felt nice and quiet. I like quiet. Anyway, That's my experience so far. I was surprised that Honda let that slip through and even the technicians didn't notice the gauge not working. I wonder if this is a common problem on these scooters.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 4 lety +1

      Thx for the feedback! That's a shame about the delivery problem on your new PCX150... it sounds like a faulty fuel sender (pump and level/sender are a one-piece assembly). The dealer definitely should have caught that in the PDI (pre-delivery inspection). Hopefully, that will be a quick repair and you'll be out on the road soon!
      How do you intend to use your new scoot... just around town, commuting, road trips? I'm itching to get out for more moto-camping trips soon. I will probably take one of my PCX150's for a scamping (scooter camping) trip after this virus lockdown relaxes a bit. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Probably won't do any serious trips on it, although I bet it could do it no problem. Rather late comment great little vlog my friend , I’ve owned both .
    Admitted the cub was in the 70s but to all intents it was basically the same bike but obviously only a 50 cc engine.
    It was great ultra reliable and would pull 50mph.
    But for me the Pcx which I currently have ignoring the capacity is a more practical bike , the CVT makes better use of the available power than the Cubs gear box..
    Also comfort and storage even without a top box is really good but with it you can load a pile.
    In fact using a small hard shell back pack( which I intend to replace with small panniers I can take enough gear for a long weekend camp.
    Which I’m actually just about to set off on , 300miles round trip so not too far but somewhat further than many think these small bikes can do.
    I toured the UK on my old C50 and clocked up 3400 miles so the larger engine should be luxury by comparison.
    Either bike maintains Hondas ultra reliability reputation my old C50 had 30000 on the clock when I sold it and was running sweet as a nut .
    These PCX’s I’ve seen with over 40000 trouble free miles on and still going strong.
    I have had large bikes but to be honest as a pensioner I find the small ones suit me better these days.
    Happy riding what ever bike you own guys.

      Thanks for the feedback! Honda's small bikes and scooters are excellent machines... I own several of them. I tend to ride more of the small-bore bikes these days just to relax and enjoy the scenery instead of rushing quickly through it as I would certainly do on a larger/faster machine. I just returned from a 7-day, 2000-mile trip on my Honda Super Cub, so it is certainly capable of taking longer journeys... you just have to plan the route more carefully to stay off of the fast highways. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    The PCX seems to be the most practical for a commute that includes highway 🛣️ miles. My highway stretch is posted 60 mph and often crowded at commute times. When not crowded people are going 65-80 mph. The first five miles of my commute are two lanes regular road. Then 17 miles on the highway and then two miles in downtown Seattle which is usually stop/go. The PCX seems like it would suit me well for commuting, but I love the iconic style of the Super Cub. I lived in Japan for about ten years right after college and Honda Cubs are ubiquitous there. But the Super Cub probably lacks the power I would want on I-90. I’ll probably get a PCX as an alternative to my BMW 750GS.

      Thx for the feedback! The CB500X is a fantastic machine. I have a 2014 CB500X (with the 17" front and rear wheels), and it is my go-to bike for any task, whether it's commuting around town or tackling long highway trips. I've dubbed it my "mile muncher" because it's very comfortable and it gets great gas mileage (65-70 mpg). I was debating between the CB500X and the NC700X, but I finally decided on the 500X because of the larger fuel tank (4.5 gal)... it has a nearly 300-mile range on the highway if you keep the speeds under 70 mph. I would LOVE it if Honda would bring the 2019+ Forza 300 to the USA... it has enough steam to run freeway speeds all day long, and it has more creature comforts than the smaller scoots (e.g. power-adjustable windscreen, ABS, TC, larger wheels, etc). The closest mid-size scooter is the Yamaha X-MAX 300, so that might be my next addition to the stable. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      Thx for the feedback! I am 5'7" (~170 cm) tall with an inseam of ~29" (~73.6 cm) and my weight is about 170 pounds (77 kg) with full riding gear. The PCX150 is a little bit wide at the center where you need to put your feet down, so the "inner leg bow" is slightly longer than the actual seat height of ~30". I can't flat-foot the bike with both feet, but I can comfortably tip-toe both sides at the same time. I can flat-foot one side without any problem and leave the other foot tip-toe, but I usually just put one foot down at stops (usually the left foot as a habit from riding motorcycles... right foot stays on rear brake). My son and I are planning to make a Part #3 of this series in the next week or two. We will be comparing the long-distance ride quality, fuel economy, and general thoughts about the two bikes in a tandem road trip. So, stay tuned for that video!

      @QuasiMotard  Před 5 lety

      Are you are referring to the CRG bar-ends that I installed on the Super Cub? I tried rotating them to sit below the bar, but they were too close to my knees and I tended to hit them when mounting/dismounting the bike. The OEM mirrors mount on the lever bosses, so they can't be relocated without adapter/spacer brackets.
      As for the OEM mirrors on the PCX, they are fantastic... no visibility or position problems with them at all. I do have spacers (wideners) on my 2015 PCX150 (white) that move the mirrors outward about 1.5" to clear the National Cycle windscreen, but those mirrors work just fine without the spacers. I wanted to tell you what I did with the rattling with my top box. I know it is kind of tacky but I put folded blue paper towels just one or two underneath the top box in between the top box and the rack. It quieted the rattle noise right up but not sure if yours is rattling for the same reason mine was. I know just like you I could not stand that noise. By the way I own a 2017 and 2019 PCX and there is no clutch noise with either one at least not yet. I am aware of the clutch noise you are referring to in previous videos because I have experienced it as well.

      That's a good tip. I actually did a similar hack for my SH33 on the 2015 PCX150... I folded up a couple of thin nitrile shop gloves and stuffed them under the plate cover on the mount (the snap-in plate that covers the screws). That works OK, but it still rattles... I think I'll try your suggestion to see if it kills the rattles. Congrats on the dual PCX150's! How do you like the 2019 vs the 2017? Are there any major differences other than the wheels and bodywork? --QM

      QuasiMotard The biggest difference between the 2017 and 2019 is the Digital dash. The 2017 is a dark blue and 19 is some kind of bronze I think but my wife likes the color of the blue better. I am partial towards blue myself. I do like the digital dash better then everything else I have seen. I told my wife yesterday if I had to make a choice between the 2019 PCX in the super cub at this present moment I would keep the super cub but I really do like the PCX. I have noticed that the super cub takes bumps in the road a lot smoother and gracefully compared to the PCX. The only thing I do not like about the super Cubs thus far is no storage at all so I have bought a very large backpack that I really like, is very comfortable.

I remember reading that Honda upgraded the powertrain slightly (friction reduction, but also displacement reduction), and the new PCX has a new twin-spar underbone frame now. I wonder if the new frame design helps with the ride and cornering stability. As for the luggage options on the Cub, stay tuned for a video that I'll post later today or tomorrow about a pannier setup that I'm testing on the Cub. I swallow your reviews with ease. I am a male, 62 years old and 5’5”. Lost my job last month. However, since many young men deliver food for restaurants here in nyc on electric bicycles, it came to my mind doing the same. After careful review of electric bicycles, with their disadvantages in terms of range ( 20 - 30 miles ) and price ( up to $2000 ! ), started thinking of scooters until I found you. One thing about the super cub that I like is tubeless tires not worrying about flat tires. Is the PCX150 tubeless ? Which of these two beautiful scooters you recommend for my future line of work delivering food for restaurants 10 hours a day daily ? Thanks again.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 4 lety

      Yes, the PCX uses tubeless tires, so you can use traditional tire repair tools if/when the inevitable puncture happens. I also use Ride-On Tire Sealant in all of my motorcycle tires to help avoid roadside repairs. The sealant automatically plugs holes and reduces the air loss until you can perform a proper tire repair (or replacement). Both bikes are very economical to operate (e.g. fuel and insurance costs), but I would recommend the PCX as the better delivery vehicle because it has built-in cargo-carrying ability with the under the seat storage. If you add a top case, then you will have ample storage for carrying food and other small deliveries with ease (large pizza boxes might be difficult, though). My son regularly uses the PCX for grocery runs, and it's surprising how much stuff you can carry on that scooter. Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions... I'll be glad to help! • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 2 lety

      Howdy, Jim, and thanks for the feedback on the videos! I replied to your other comment on the same topic, but I'll repeat it here for continuty...
      A properly-sized windscreen will almost always improve efficiency and shouldn't hurt top speeds unless it's over-sized (think barn door). The goal is to divert airflow around the rider's pocket, which will lower the overall drag coefficient. Motorcycles already have the aerodynamics of a brick, so the rider's contribution to that doesn't help the situation.
      The only negative effect that I've noticed with my taller windscreens is that they can add a "sail effect" that causes the bike to bobble a little bit in crosswinds. This NC screen doesn't seem to have a sail effect, but it's not quite perfect in my experience. I plan to add an adjustable deflector (laminar lip) to the top of the windscreen to push just a bit more air over my helmet. The height of this screen puts the turbulent air flow right at the middle of my visor, so that makes a very noisy ride. Adding a 3-4" adjustable deflector shoudl fix the noise issues for my riding height. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Thanks for the feedback! That mount is the RAM X-Grip (www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA)... I have them on most of my bikes and they are very good holders, but they aren't 100% foolproof. I recently lost my phone on the Super Cub when my phone was in the X-Grip (czcams.com/video/EMXxEM6zcfo/video.html , watch toward the end of the video, not sure HOW it could have fallen out). The other model that I have used for many years on motorcycles and bikes is the Rokform case and mounting system (www.rokform.com/). Another similar mounting system is the QuadLock system (www.quadlockcase.com/collections/shop-moto). The drawback to both of those systems is that you need to use their specific case for your phone. I prefer to use the Otterbox cases on my phones, so that's a decision that you need to make (convenience vs impact protection).
      As for the windscreen options for a 2019 PCX150, you should look at the National Cycle Tall Touring windscreen (www.nationalcycle.com/n50005.html). I have that same model on my 2015 PCX150 and it works great! You could opt for the extra-tall screen if you need more coverage (www.nationalcycle.com/n50006.html). To answer your question, it's a rev limiter, not speed limiter. Dr. Pulley Sliders help your top end just a bit (I like 13gram). My 2015 PCX hits the limiter at about 71mph with dr pulley sliders, but the newer PCX's have a slightly lower gearing so you might not get that much top end as the older ones. Also, the 2013's are geared even higher and you'll get as much as 73 before hitting the limiter but acceleration is a bit less and pre-2015, the fuel tanks were only 1.6 gallon.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 5 lety

      Are you running the stock variator in your 2015? I have the 13g DrP sliders in mine, and I can only pull about 67-68 mph before bumping against the rev limiter (sometimes only 65 mph). I'm thinking about installing the NCY Golden Variator Kit in both of my PCX's... supposed to pull ~75 mph easily and have smoother power throughout. I haven't seen any conclusive videos backing up those claims, though.... and thst NCY kit isn't cheap at around $300. --QM

    • @Techridr
      @Techridr Před 5 lety +1

      @@QuasiMotard Yes, OEM variator. I have 2 old Helix's as well, I completely changed the variators in those because OEM was really limited. OEM variators in the PCX are very good. The sliders alone help a lot. the issue with your top speed is likely because Honda (quietly) change the final drive by a tooth to slow down the top end and zip up the take-off. I believe they've done this twice since 2013. My findings so far are that the 2013's have the slowest takeoff, but top speed is about 71 right off the showroom floor. The top on my 2015 was 67. With the sliders, it went up to about 72 or so. Now that my belt is slightly worn, it's now topping out at about 69. A new belt always helps, but never really lasts. Honda also changed the tire size on the newer ones. In either 2017 or 2018. I don't remember. Even though your tires are considered "bigger," They are a bit fatter, but the circumference is actually smaller on the newer tire size, so that could also account for losing about 1 or 2 mph on the top.

      I have two PCX150's (2015 in white, and a 2016 in gray). In the USA, we've had the PCX125 for 2010-2011 and then the PCX150 from 2013-current. They have all been the same physical size with only minor updates to seat height. The latest model for 2019-2020 is still roughly the same and has evolved with styling updates, digital dash, and ABS front brake. Here is a good article reviewing the history of the PCX: www.motorscooterguide.net/Honda/PCX/PCX.html
      The newest edition that will be released next month (June 2020) is the 2021 Honda ADV150 (powersports.honda.com/street/scooter/adv150). This new bike is essentially a re-skinned PCX150 with better suspension and different styling. The engine is almost exactly the same 149cc unit that was borrowed from the PCX150. The ADV150's seat height will certainly be taller because of the new suspension. I am thinking about trading one of my PCX150's for the new ADV150... we'll see! If that happens, I will be sure to post a few videos with walkarounds and a detailed review comparison to the PCX150. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I’m only 5’3 and the seat height was lower on the newer version I’m assuming. My feet touched the ground way more than it did on the other version of the PCX150, maybe because of the year and how high the seat height is. When getting a scooter should you be able to put your entire foot on the ground or about 3 fourth of your foot on the ground? The mounting solution in this video is the RAM X-Grip and two other pieces:
      RAM X-Grip (regular size): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA
      RAM ball mount (M8 size): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005J43I56
      RAM double socket arm (short): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KWPJ04
      You can use a longer double-socket arm, but I definitely recommend the ones with the flat-style thumb screw instead of the round, knurled knob. Those round knobs don't tighten down very well; the flat style gives you more leverage to tighten it to prevent the mount from shifting position.
      Two other great options that I've used extensively are the twist-lock style mounts, like Rokform and QuadLock, but they are usually much more expensive than the RAM solutions. Both of those require you to use that manufacturer's phone-specific case that attaches to their mounting base. They do have adhesive "universal" mounts that you can stick to your own case, but I haven't had good luck with those in the past. Here are the links for those mounting solutions:
      Rokform universal motorcycle mount: www.amazon.com/Rokform-Motorcycle-Machined-Aluminum-Magnetic/dp/B00IAKFSK4
      Rokform phone cases: www.amazon.com/s?k=rokform+phone+case&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
      QuadLock motorcycle mounts & cases: www.quadlockcase.com/collections/shop-moto
      If you want a hybrid of those two solutions, then you can start with the RAM X-Grip and then use the QuadLock RAM ball adapter (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F8H7VZS) to combine them. I prefer this method because the RAM ball and arm allows you to position the phone just about anywhere (including using a longer/shorter arm). Good luck, and happy shopping! 😉👍 --QM

      The battery charge is probably too low to start the motor. Do you have a battery charger or a portable jump box (battery pack)? If so, then you should be able to get the motor started, and it will charge the battery within about 10-15 minutes of running or riding around.
      Of course, don't forget to check the basic things first! Make sure that your side stand isn't down, the start/stop switch is in the "run" position, and try holding both brake levers (not just one). I had a temporary issue with my 2015 PCX where the front brake switch wasn't working, so it wouldn't start until I pulled the rear brake lever. I cleaned the switch contacts and didn't encounter that problem again.

However, the smaller wheels always tend to be harsher over bumps and aren't as sure-footed as 17" wheels on other street bikes. 👍 --QM

    I dont Like a stiff uncomfortable ride, instead of swapping out OEM shocks i would have put in spring spacers, to increase the OEM Spring stiffness, it would have been far cheaper and a better more comfortable outcome. Hopefully you kept the stock shocks.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I always keep the OEM parts so I can revert back to stock, and I can also pass them on to a new owner when I sell the bike. The issue with the OEM shocks on the PCX is that they are under-damped for both compression and rebound (cheap/inexpensive units). The upper shock bolts aren't accessible from outside the bike, so the entire seat and trunk box need to be removed to do anything back there. Modifying the OEM shocks would require disassembly (or some very creative work with a spring compressor), which is very difficult for these stamped/pinned units. Custom tuning of the shocks might mean multiple teardown sessions (of both scoot and shocks) to get it right. I didn't want that hassle, so I skipped the extra tinkering and upgraded them to the YSS units with adjustable spring preload and damping settings. 👍 --QM

    I am thinking about buying the PCX150 and wanted to know how is it for two passengers? combined weight around 300-320lbs?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 4 lety +1

      That's a good question! The PCX works for two passengers, as long as you are small-ish in scale (e.g. under 5'8" tall and not too heavy)... and ideally your pillion should be smaller to fit the limited rear seat area. I recorded a 2-up ride with my daughter on the PCX150 just yesterday... I'll see if I can edit and post that video for you soon.
      The 2015-2016 PCX150's are rated at 354.9 pounds (161 kg) maximum carrying capacity, so your weight target is still within the design specs. However, you will really be taxing the PCX's motor and suspension at that weight, so it will definitely be slower and the rear suspension will likely bottom-out frequently over moderate dips and bumps. I replaced the rear shocks on both of my PCX's to give a bit firmer ride and to prevent the bottoming over Houston's rough streets.
      If you plan to ride 2-up most of the time, I would recommend a scooter in the 200-300cc range. Those scooters will offer a bit more room and certainly more power to handle the added weight of a passenger. Note that I don't recommend any of the Chinese or Italian makes because of the relatively poor service networks, lower build quality/reliability, and near the impossibility of reselling them.
      The Suzuki Burgman 200 is the only name-brand scooter in the market in the 200cc range, and it's a great scoot with very friendly ergonomics. The next step up in size would be the Honda Forza 300 (2014 was the last year), or the Yamaha XMAX 300. Those 300cc scoots are much roomier and much more powerful, so you shouldn't have any problems with comfort or road prowess. Next up the scale would be a Suzuki Burgman 400 or an older Yamaha Majesty 400... those can be found used on Craigslist for very reasonable prices (routinely under $2500).
      Good luck with your research and shopping! Cheers! 👍 --QM

      Actually, the owner's manual on many bikes and all current MSF courses preach otherwise... use the kill switch and then ignition. The side stand interlock is usually on the same circuit as the kill switch. The key-off used to be the standard with older bikes that had standard ignitions (e.g. points and condensers), but modern bikes with CDI and fuel injection don't care which method is used. All of the "off switches" interrupt the spark-enable (and fuel pump, if fuel-injected) so the motor stops running. Of course, if you aren't using the key, then you must remember to kill the ignition and take the key with you (my son forgets sometimes with the scooters). --QM

      Yes, it's the Super Cub C125 that I'm comparing in this video. The C125 has a low-compression, air-cooled motor, so its power output is about 60% lower than the PCX150's high-compression, water-cooled motor.
      The 2015+ PCX150's here in the USA have a different final drive gear ratio than the pre-2015 models, and that ratio reduces the top speed. The rev-limiter sets the speed at around 62-63 MPH, but aftermarket variators or over-sized rear tires can bump the actual speed to 71-76 MPH without too much difficulty. I upgraded the variators in both of my PCX 150's after this video, and the new top speeds are 71-74 MPH on GPS. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @QuasiMotard  Před 4 lety +5

      No, the PCX150's motor has a moderate compression ratio of 10.6:1, so it runs fine on base unleaded (87 octane, actually RON+MON/2 in the USA). I have noticed a very slight difference between running 87 vs 91 octane in my PCX150's... only about 1-2 mpg, which could be attributed to road or riding conditions instead of the fuel rating. The owner's manual calls for 86 octane or higher, so anything higher is just more expensive and potentially less efficient. Keep in mind that higher octane fuel doesn't equate to higher "quality". A higher octane (or R+M/2) number just means that the fuel is more resistant to detonation (experienced as engine knocking or pinging).
      If the engine doesn't have high enough compression to need the higher octane (e.g. above ~11.0:1) or doesn't have forced-induction, then the higher octane fuels are just wasted money, and the higher octane may actually reduce the engine's efficiency (fuel resists ignition and burns cooler). Remember that an internal combustion engines (ICE) is just a heat-driven air pump that burns fuel to extract that heat energy. So, the more efficiently you can use/extract the heat from the fuel, then the more efficient (and powerful) the motor operates. Cheers! 👍 --QM
